• Hard disk permission after bootcamp ??

  Hi all, I have a question concerning hard disk permission after Using boot camp, i have a macbook pro 17 i7, 500gb, yesterday i installed window 7 ultimate in 80 gb (bootcamp) ntfs offcourse. I was testing my HD permission since i found that the start up is slow in mac side. I found there's alot of changes in permissions is that normal or i should to repair all this permission problems, need to mention that from Windows side i can see my mac drive which i don't want... • Reset network (airport) connections from the command line

  I have this MacBook Pro that has intermittent problems connecting to my Wifi network. Sometimes it helps to disable/re-enable airport and sometimes I have to restart the computer to get my network running again. Has anyone experienced this? And is there a command I can run that would do the same as I do when I restart the computer (short of actually restarting it, obviously) or at least a command that restarts the airport service?   I just bought a TDK HC-R90 Recordable blank CD that's supposedly 800 MB, but when I put it in my Macbook, Finder says there's only 100 MB available. WTF? I'm trying to burn the 575.8 MB Anonym.OS live cd (.iso), I dunno if that makes a difference.

• Monitors go to sleep and come back blue

  Recently, my displays have been turning blue when they wake up from sleep. This has hapeened on my Macbook and on my 2nd monitor on my PC (which I use for VM and remote desktop). It's possible that part of it might be my eyes, but seeing the blue monitor next to my other monitor on my PC has convinced me that something is probably out of place. What might that be?

• Snow Leopard 10.6.3 Freezes Frequently

  Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my Macbook Pro freezes quite frequently now. It freezes for few seconds and then works fine. During that time trackpad does not work and keyboard works partially (missing keystrokes while I type). Initially it was once or twice in a day but now it has become quite frequent. • Cannot install boot camp 3.1 drivers on windows 7

  Hi all, I have a 64 bit windows 7 install (thru bootcamp) on my 17" macbook pro, with the bootcamp 3.0 drivers. Whenever i run the apple software update to install the 3.1 drivers, it downloads and installs them, then reboots, and when i've rebooted, it's still stuck on version 3.0 according to 'about boot camp' on the system tray icon. I've tried installing several times, it keeps happening. Any ideas? Thanks

• Gray Progress Bar in Macbook Boot caused by Partition Fault

  Here's my problem: When I try to load my macbook it shows the gray progress bar. It takes a while to fill the whole progress and after it macbook just shuts down. I tried to boot from recovery partition and run Disk Utility to repair it. Disk Utility showed my "Macintosh HD" in a gray color and failed to repair it. I thought all my data was lost, but then I tried the following: So I booted into ubunto from live usb and it successfully mounted my macintosh hd hfs+ partition. Parted shows me the following partitions on my disk: Disk /dev/sda: 500GB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: gpt Number Start End Size File system Name Flags 1 20.5kB 210MB 210MB fat32 EFI System Partition boot 2 210MB 499GB 499GB hfs+ Macintosh HD 3 499GB 500GB 650MB hfs+ Recovery HD Seems legit except for FAT32 for EFI System Partition. Since all my data is okay and backed up what should I do to recover the system. I don't really want to reinstall all the system though I believe there's a command to make it allright in linux.   I have a Macbook pro Quad core (2.2/8gb ram/750gb hdd). I have went through tons of forums on the Internet, but none of them seemed to be updated for the current Backtrack 5R1, or the question of getting it to correctly work on the MBP. Can anyone help? I don’t have a USB Dongle, and I want to be able to use the internal airport extreme wireless of the MBP to use BT 5R1. I have downloaded Backtrack 5R1 onto VMWare Fusion, and got it up and running, but to no avail. It keeps recognizing my card as a Ethernet connection. Kismac wont recognize the card either. So what I am asking for is this: The proper “download method.” for Backtrack 5R1 to my MacBook Pro. (YES I AM WILLING TO RE-DOWNLOAD BT 5R1). The Complete process from start to finish, UP TO DATE, from someone who has done this using an MBP Running Lion OSX. The proper tweaks, settings, or commands to get my airport extreme wireless card to work (it is BROADCOM 4331 I think). The wireless connection I need to use the tools on both Backtrack 5R1 and Kismac. I mainly need to test WEP cracking on my network for security. The difference between running BT 5R1 on VMWARE Fusion and running from downloading it directly to the MBP, if there is, How to download it directly to the MBP?

• MacBook Air Keeps dropping Wi-Fi

  So my MacBook Air keeps dropping Wi-Fi for some reason. It happens ONLY on my home network, and ONLY to my computer. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router. I'm the only Mac on the network. Every other Wi-Fi network is perfectly fine, and every other computer on this network is fine. Many things can happen. It could say it's connected, but not be able to access the internet (whether it tells me that there's no internet access or not). It may just drop Wi-Fi altogether, and refuse to connect. Generally, if I unplug the router and plug it back in, it's all good. It also works if I restart my computer. This happens multiple times a day. Yesterday I did everything I know to get it to connect (restart router many times, restart my MacBook), and nothing worked. Eventually it just magically worked. How can I stop this from happening? We got a notice from Comcast a while ago saying that a bot called DNS Changer was detected on one or more machines on the network. I'm assuming that this can't be me, right?

• How to install Windows 7 on a MacBook with HDDs and no optical drive, without rEFIt

  I just removed the SuperDrive on my MacBook Pro and replaced it with an SSD. So now my laptop has a SSD, and a HDD, but no optical drive. I have Lion on the SSD and I want to install Windows 7 on the HDD. Unfortunately, Boot Camp only will install Windows off of the Windows DVD. I have made a bootable Windows 7 thumb drive but my MacBook Pro won’t boot off it. So my question is how can I install Windows on the other HDD? I have thought about maybe using Oracle VirtualBox to install it on that hard drive, but I don’t know if that would allow me to boot directly into Windows. I really don't want to go down the whole virtualization route. I know I could just take out the SSD, put back in the optical drive, run the Windows 7 DVD, take the optical drive back out, put the SSD back in. But that sounds like a nightmare. Also, I really don’t want to use things like rEFIt. Any advice?

• How to find Stolen MacBook with iCloud

  My MacBook Air was stolen about 6 weeks ago. Through iCloud and "Find Phone", I have some pictures and a location down to about 2 blocks. The pictures are from the current user taking photos which automatically appear on my local devices. (Yes they probably saw my pictures until I stopped taking them. Yes, they are stupid.) I was thinking about going there and hanging out until I recognized the current users, but it is in a very bad neighborhood and I would be noticed. The police have not done anything. Yes, the MacBook can be locked or a message sent. I am hoping to get it back. Does anyone have ideas on how to track them down? While Find Phone shows their location, it does not report an ip address. Is there a way to get an ip address? Does Facebook face recognition work on strangers? Come on tech geniuses, help me play detective. It does not have Drop Box installed.

  Hi, I want to increase the RAM in my MacBookPro 15", 2.53 GHz, Mid-2009. I currently have 4GB, and I want 6GB (and upgrade to 8GB later - I think this should work with my model: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=573906) Now I see two offers: 1x4GB DDR3 1333 CL9 9-9 (149 EUR) 1x4GB DDR3 1066 CL7 7-7 (192 EUR). Both are from the same brand (Transcend), both are labeled "For MacBook/MacBookPro". Now I have no idea, which of these would work better with the 2GB RAM module from my currently installed memory (Running at 1067 MHz, according to System Profiler - but with what CL setting?) Would the 1333 CL9 RAM be set to CL7 when running at 1066 MHz? Thanks, Chris PS Should I expect problems when I later upgrade to 8GB with a different module (in case the same module won't be produced anymore)?

  I have a Macbook Pro with Windows 7 installed in Boot Camp. I have serious problems with the power management and not sure why. I have the default Balanced power plan selected. Many times when I close the laptop and leave it for more than just a few minutes, when I open it back up, it does not awake immediately. I end up having to press the power button to get it to wake up. Sometimes this causes it to wake up in Windows mode, sometimes it reboots completely, sometimes the battery has been drained and Windows has to restart. Is this a common problem? Can I fix it?

  I'm dual-booting OS X and Ubuntu on a Macbook 4,1. I'm trying to mount my Linux partition in OS X. I installed MacFUSE 2.0.3,2 and fuse-ext2-0.0.7 on Snow Leopard 10.6.5. • Intel Core i7-4960HQ vs. 4850HQ (Haswell) [on hold]

  I'm looking at the new MacBook Pros and trying to decide between the Core i7-4960HQ (2.6 GHz) and i7-4850 (2.3 GHz). I've found some synthetic benchmarks comparing them, but I haven't found a lot of data, so I'd appreciate any pointers to good comparisons for the Haswell family (especially these two processors). My cursory analysis seems to suggest there isn't a huge gain from the extra 300 MHz. I'd like to determine not only whether this is generally true, but also to figure out if the gains that are made in performance come at too high of cost. Is the 2.6 going to be pushing the limits of what can fit in a thin laptop without overheating? I've looked at some of Intel's documentation, but have not been able to determine what the normal and maximum operating temperature differences are for the models. In the past, there have been times that Intel's fastest models in a given range ran especially hot and/or consumed significantly more power compared to slightly slower models. Do those concerns factor into the current generation?

• Windows 7 Natively on Mac OS X Bootcamp, Airport Wifi Unable To Connect....

  Hello! I am using a brand new MacBook Pro. I am running a copy of Windows 7 natively via bootcamp (No use of Virtual Machine Software at all). However the only way I can get Windows to connect to the internet is via ethernet, as opposed to the Macs Airport card picking up the wireless. It just refuses to connect, and gives me a limited access status. Any ideas!? I've run Windows XP natively via bootcamp and I had a few issues with the network constantly dropping out, however I blamed that on the drivers and the general shiteness of XP.... Help greatly appreciated.

• How do you change your Airport or Ethernet MAC address in Mac OS X 10.6?

  I have a MacBook Pro and would like to set a custom MAC address for either my Airport WiFi card, or Ethernet port. In older versions of Mac OS X, you could do it like this: $ sudo ifconfig en0 ether 00:11:22:33:44:55 // Ethernet $ sudo ifconfig en1 lladdr AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF // Airport For it to work on Airport, you'd have to power it on (e.g. $ sudo ifconfig en1 up), ensure it's not connected to any wireless network, and execute the command. I'm aware such a change won't propagate across reboots. Unfortunately, this doesn't work on Mac OS X 10.6.6 anymore. Apple appears to have removed the functionality (the command fails silently). • Where is custom icon information stored in Mac OS X Snow Leopard?

  I have an external Lacie hard drive connected via USB to my Macbook Pro which is running Snow Leopard. I have nothing but music on the external drive with every album sorted in it's own individual folder and have changed all of the individual folder icons to display the album art of the songs from the album inside. I want to reformat my laptop, but I'm afraid if I do that, the album art will disappear if it's stored on a system file within the main hard drive OS. My question is this, is the information which tells the OS to display the album art listed in a hidden system file on the external Lacie drive or my laptop hard drive and if I reformat will I have to reassociate all of the album art to the folders on the external or will it keep it's associations. • Mini DisplayPort -> DVI -> VGA ?

  I have a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter which I use to connect my MacBook to a screen that has DVI input. I also have a screen with VGA only input which I want to be able to use, so instead of buying yet another expensive Apple adapter (the Mini DisplayPort to VGA), I just got a cheap DVI to VGA, so I can do Mini DisplayPort - DVI - VGA. It doesn't seem to work though. The screen just says "no connection". Does anyone know if this is actually supposed to work (and my DVI - VGA is just broken), or is this simply not supported and I need to get the expensive Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA? Thanks!

• One network, two macbooks, one is fast and the other is slow

  I really need help for my friend. I know next to nothing about computers. My roommate and I both have macbook pros from the same year running OS X, are both connecting wirelessly to the same xfinity wifi, and while mine runs perfectly fine, my roommate complains that his works very slowly and times out every few seconds. I can't seem to figure out why this is. He is trying to get me to switch internet providers because he is convinced that it is their problem, but this cannot possibly be the issue since it works great on mine. He has an xbox hooked up to the wifi that he says also works poorly. I really can't see switching providers given that I am experiencing absolutely zero problems. How can I help my friend?

• Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Sound Stopped Working

  I have cancelled cable and want to watch the NCAA tournament games on my TV tonight through my 2011 Macbook Pro where I can stream the game in a browser. I have a cheap Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI converter that I have connected to my TV in the past and had no issues with audio or video, the problem is the audio has stopped working since the last time I used it a few months ago and now just keeps playing through the laptop speakers, but the video works fine. Everything with my setup is the same and when I try to force the audio output to the TV in the Audio system settings, my TV is not listed as an output option at all. I have tried various combinations of power cycling, replugging-in both devices and making sure the TV options are set properly to receive audio through HDMI but no luck. Anyone know what the issue could be?
