• Advice for printing a colored page

  If I need to print a colored document on a black and white printer, then which one of these options do you think is better: desaturating the document first and then sending it to printer giving the print command on the colored document only (trusting the printer for the job) I know most of us use the second option. I want to know if there is any possible advantage of using the first option?

• How can I print from my lion mac mini to my windows XP, with simple file sharing?

  I have quite a complicated setup, perhaps. And a lot of history on this issue, I'm hoping that I don't have to buy a new printer. I've got a HP Wireless USB Print Server, which requires client software, I can't just use it as an IP Printer. The HP software is pretty poor on the mac and is no longer supported and often locks up the printer server and takes some considerable effort to actually print something. Let alone if a windows machine attaches to it first. My printer is an Epson Stylus R285. However, the windows client software is fine and we can print from windows 7 / XP without problem. We have simple file sharing setup as this is the only way I could get windows XP to talk to windows 7. However, I can't seem to get my mac mini to connect as anything other than a guest to my xp machine, to connect to the shared printer. I'm not considering some kind of internet printing as this would seems the simplest solution. But I'm not sure what will work with my setup ?

• print job doesn't go to print queue

  I have two printers hooked up to my intel imac. I am having a printing error. It seems that whenever i try to print (a simple text doc) I am unable to get the print job to go to print queue with one of my printers. I have a HP c7280 and a HP c3100. I am able to get one working properly, but the other doesn't seem to allow it to go to the print queue. I have switched usb cables (with the printer that I know works) and both printers are recognized by the computer in the printer preferences pane. I've tried reseting the printer system in the printer setup utility.. reloaded the drivers from HP.. etc. If anyone has a suggestion or could point me to a little help i'd be VERY grateful Best Regards.. • hp officejet 5510 is only printing blank pages if used with Ubuntu 9.10

  I'm trying to setup a hp officejet 5510 using HPLIP 3.10.2 under Ubuntu 9.10. The installation of the driver according to this guide was no problem but after installing and selecting the printer I was only able to print blank pages. The printer is working well under windows and scanning (its a multi-functional printer) is also possible under Ubuntu. Does anyone know this problem and a possible solution?

  My sister still has Win XP. She tried to print a document on her USB printer and now it's stuck in the printing queue. I tried the following: Restart the computer Restart the printer Delete the entry from the printing queue From the printing queue choose Printer\Cancel All Documents Right click the print job and choose Pause The status of the printing job now reads "Deleting - Paused - Printing". Nothing I do seems to get rid of this stuck printing job. What should I do?

  I am looking to purchase a printer and before anyone votes to close I am not asking for recommendations. Here is my question I would like to have a printer that I can print to directly from my iPhone. When I google "air print" (based off of what the iPhone says) I see HP Wireless Printers. That leads me to the question can I use the iPhone to print on any printer with wireless capabilities or does it have to be one of these HP Printers with "ePrint"?

• Is there a way to share a scanner with an Airport Extreme?

  I've got an Airport Extreme as my home network's router. (Sidebar: I love it.) The printer sharing is pretty phenomenal - I've got my printer hooked up to the base station and all the machines in the house can print to it just fine. However, I have one of those combined scanner/printers, and nothing on the lan seems to be able to see the scanner. Is there a way to get the Airport Extreme / Bonjour to also share the scanner half of the device? For the record, this is an all Windows LAN, so I'm using Bonjour for Windows to get the print sharing to work. Also, I'm hoping to not add a whole stack of extra software to the ecosystem - only one machine in the house needs the scanner, so I can just plug the printer back into that machine and share the printer that way. Still, the Airport and Bonjour seem fancy enough that this seems like it should be doable.

• Dot Matrix printers setup...

  Hello! I am using debian which is similar to ubuntu. They have 7 dot matrix printers some very old like this one http://www.omnidatasys.net/product/desc_printer_ti880.htm which works from 1979 daily and at text is faster than many inkjects. I believe that it has his own language... Sending text to serial port (port server) prints garbage. However i think is prints only capital english up to 95 asccii and greek and the rest up to 127 i think greek capital.(special chip ) Sending english capital letters prints garbage i think but i amnt sure... i will try again... The other printer are ESC/P compatible and i use generic epson driver provided from ghostscript... However i think that sending text via lp -dpr1 filename It prints the text as a grafic...Changing from printer font face(courier,times roman etc) or pitch has no effect... I am wondering if is there any work arround for this? In AIX they claim that lp command printed output as text as it prints and cobol programs send raw text to to lp printers . However in AIX they use some custom filters for the printers and has more options for dot matrix printers.. I would like to know if there is a solution for this.. To avoid graphics mode for text and change font face somehow.. The most Straight-through approach would be to use no driver ,just send ESC/P from cobol but this requires too much work... • Formatting and pretty printing dates with jquery

  I need to display dates in a couple different ways in an app built with jquery. In some situations, I need the typical "yyyy-mm-dd hh:mma" type of formatting, with all of it's different permutations. In other cases, I need to show dates "pretty printed" similar to how StackOverflow does them: 5 seconds ago 12 minutes ago 3 hours ago yesterday 2 days ago My application already uses JQuery UI DatePicker which includes a formatDate() function, but as far as I can tell, there is no way to use it outside of the datepicker. I want to format dates that aren't associated with a datepicker. Is it possible to do this using DatePicker? The DateJS library can parse dates like "12 minutes ago", but as far as I can tell, it cannot take a Date object and format strings like this. It can format the typical "yyyy-mm-dd" types of formats. This library seems pretty heavy as well. John Resig's Pretty Dates looks like it can provide the pretty printing ("2 hours ago"), but it doesn't do the standard formatting. Is there not a single plugin that can do all of this? Is there a way to leverage the DatePicker code so I don't have to load multiple codebases that do the same things?

• Marshal.StringToCoTaskMemAnsi converting non-Latin characters when sending raw data to a printer

  For sending raw data to a thermal DATAMAX printer I'm using RawPrinterHelper class from this Microsoft KB article. When a string sent to printer contains only Latin characters, everything is OK. But non-Latin, in my case Russian characters in a string, are not printed correct. I think the problem is in using Marshal.StringToCoTaskMemAnsi method for converting the string: public static bool SendStringToPrinter(string szPrinterName, string szString) { IntPtr pBytes; Int32 dwCount; // How many characters are in the string? dwCount = szString.Length; // Assume that the printer is expecting ANSI text, and then convert // the string to ANSI text. pBytes = Marshal.StringToCoTaskMemAnsi(szString); // Send the converted ANSI string to the printer. SendBytesToPrinter(szPrinterName, pBytes, dwCount); Marshal.FreeCoTaskMem(pBytes); return true; } Just to note, Russian characters in the string are put in hex format, like "\x83", but nevertheless the method doesn't put this hex value in unmanaged memory as it is, but converts it, I think, according with ANSI code page to a character and then printer can not read it correctly. If I try to compose a file, using Hex editor and put correct hex values in place of non-Latin characters and then send the file to a printer using another method from the same class SendFileToPrinter, everything, including Russian characters is printed correctly. How in this case the problem with sending string, containing non-Latin characters, could be solved?

• HP CM2320 Printer crashes windows 2003 spooler in TS/Citrix

  Hello, I'm having a very annoying issue with an HP printer (CM2320): all of a sudden, any user who has that printer installed locally as default printer would crash any Windows 2003 terminal services or Citrix server (XenApp PS 4.5) as soon as he connect, causing the session to hang and other users to be unable to connect to the server. To restore functionality, an administrator has to connect to the server's console session and acknowledge the error message about spoolsv.exe having crashed with an AV. I tried downloading the latest drivers from HP (an adventure worthy of Lara Croft in itself) and install it on all servers but that didn't seem to have helped the situation: the spooler is still crashing. Anyone has a suggestion about what I could do about this ?

• Printer Properties not sending the correct page size to program

  We have a Zebra 2844 Label Printer with 4"x3" labels in it. When we check the page settings in Windows XP, it is set to the correct size. When we go to print out of any program, it prints 4"x11". I have checked the page settings in one of the programs that we are using and it does show correctly the 4"x3" settings but prints at the incorrect 4"x11". I have followed the steps here Paper size: Printer Properties vs Page Setup and here Is there a way to programatically set the printer properties in windows? but have not been able to glean enough information to figure it out. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it!

• Can't set up printer

  I'm trying to set up an HP OFficejet Pro 8500 A909a on my Windows XP machine over the network. I know the IP address of the printer but it's unclear to me how to set it up based on that. I have no idea how to troubleshoot this problem. I've tried installing the drivers but when I do that it tells me the printer is on a different gateway from my workstation, which is not true. Also, other people in the office are able to connect to this printer just fine, although the driver apparently didn't work for them, either.

• Virtualbox share guest (windows xp) printer to host(linux)

  I have a weird situation. I own a printer that has 0 support in linux, but of course, it works in windows. So I have installed VirtualBox 3.1.2 with guest additions to provide access to my usb devices. I have successfully setup the printer and the guest os can print fine. Now, the question is: Is there any way to make this printer accessible to the host OS? I noticed that the guest OS takes an ip address of 10.0.2.15, but when I try to ping that address from the linux host, it goes nowhere. No response. Has anyone here done this before? can anyone think of a way to do this?

  I connected my printer to the computer and Ubuntu 12.04recognized it and installed it, but when I try to print something, the printer just gives a signal as if the document had already been printed and nothing happens, and at the printing queue the job is still there as "Processing - Not Connected?" or "Stopped". The printer is working fine on Microsoft Windows and I am sure it is connected. In the status field in the printer properties, it says: Processing - /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups failed. I'd like someone to please teach me how to get this printer (and it's scanner) working on Ubuntu.

  I have a Hibernate Entity: @Entity class Foo { //... @Lob public byte[] getBytes() { return bytes; } //.... } My VM is configured with a maximum heap size of 512 MB. When I try to persist an object which has a 75 MB large object, I get an OutOfMemoryError. The names of the methods in the stack trace (StringBuilder, ByteArrayBlobType.toLoggableString, pretty.Printer.toString) suggest that hibernate is trying to write a very large log message that contains my object. Am I correct about why hibernate is using so much memory?   I have a rails application that allows searches using longitude and latitude. I have added a 'pretty' route with: map.connect 'stores/near/:longitude/:latitude', :controller => 'stores', :action => 'index' This works for integer latitude and longitude values (http://localhost:3000/stores/near/-88/49) but fails for decimal values (http://localhost:3000/stores/near/-88.341/49.123) giving: Routing Error No route matches "/stores/near/-88/49.0" with {:method=>:get} Any ideas how to use pretty URLs in rails with decimals?

• Rainmeter customization issues, pretty basic

  I'll admit it; I'm new to using Rainmeter. What I want to do is create two panels (one left, the other on the right) that mirror one another. One side I want to work for the Eastern US while the other for the UK. I want to keep digital clocks, the same style etc., on both sides with their respective time zone. On top of this I want to have weather reports for the whole day (Current weather and temp, morning, afternoon, and night) for each location. However, I have not been able to find any skins which allow this. For whatever reason every time I try to load a skin for a clock I can only load it for one clock of that type and I'm having the same issue with the weather skins. Could anyone please tell me what skins I should look at and how to get a mirrored look?

  I have a Mac connected to two different networks (wireless en1 and ethernet en0 ). The ethernet network is the preferred (System Preferences-Set Service Order). I'd like to be able to print to a printer on the wireless network side, without having to go to System Preferences and make the wireless network come first in the service order. Is there a way to add a route for a specific printer?
