  • Nvidia driver for Dell xps M1330 in XP

    I need to run xp, and cannot find a driver that works for this laptop in windows xp. I have tried quite a few of them, from my google searches, but none work, they all come up and say no proper driver can be found for your hardware. I have tried to replace the inf files on driver installs but I still get nothing, same error. Any ideas will be appreciated, thank you.

    I have an acer travelmate laptop that i'm trying to create the recovery dvd(s) for. I am stuck at this screen: This machine doesn't have an optical drive. Sure, I could connect an external one - but ideally I want to store these 3 DVDs as ISO files on my network (as not to create clutter) Is there a way of mapping a "virtual" optical drive, to save the written to contents as ISO?

    Hi all, I discovered X11, and I was wondering if it is possible to install it on a dedicated server, and have a "desktop" from the server running on my personnal computer ? Or maybe it is necessary for the server to have a screen ? Or a least kde or gnome ? What I want is a desktop of my server (as if it had a screen), but on my laptop, through internet. I want to be able to launch graphic applications remotely, as if it was a PC.

    I have a pair of Sennheiser 555 semi-professional headphones. These have a 6.3mm jack and a 3.5mm jack adapter. I wish I could buy an USB sound card for my laptop that would have a 6.3mm output not 3.5mm so I could skip this adapter and lose less quality. Any recommendations?

    could anybody suggest a light (small, fast) text editor that can handle columnar view of csv files? save quote character to all fields, even if not 'necessary' OpenOffice Calc is bit big for my old laptop. My favourite Notepad++ cannot do the columnar view. And it seems to me that Sharp Tools Spreadsheet cannot import csv file. GoogleDoc convert some date fields by default which I do not want and it is really not fast and easy way how to edit csv.

    I am tired of watching fsck check my filesystem when my eeepc 901 shuts down abruptly due to a crash. I know that with a journaling filesystem, I won't have to wait for a check. However, I am well aware of the poor I/O performance of the SSD, so I can imagine using a journaling filesystem being even more frustrating, since there will be constant writes to the journal? I will buy a new laptop without such a crummy ssd someday but, is there anything I can do now, on the software side of things?

After the upgrade, if I try to use the Cisco VPN client to connect to a network, I get this message: Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 440: Driver Failure. Prior to the upgrade, I was able to connect with no problems. The version of the client I am using is 5.0.05.0290.

    Intellitype Pro is a nice software that helps me when I'm using my Ms keyboard. When I'm on the road using my laptop's built-in keyboard it interprets some of the keys incorrectly and reacts on them, for instance the Fn + Down Arrow opens Windows Live Messenger (in addition to lowering brightness, which is governed by Dell's driver). I want to stop Intellitype when I'm on the road and reload it when I'm home using the external keyboard. Note: original problem (conflict with itype) posted here.

  • .htaccess working on remote server but does not work on localhost. Getting 404 errors on localhost

    MY PROBLEM: When I visit localhost the site does not work. It shows some text from the site but it seems the server can not locate any other files. Here is a snippet of the errors from firebug: "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - localhost/css/popup.css" "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - localhost/css/style.css" "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - localhost/css/player.css" "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - localhost/css/ui-lightness/jquery-ui-1.8.11.custom.css" "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - localhost/js/jquery.js" It seems my server is looking for the files in the wrong places. For example, localhost/css/popup.css is actually located at localhost/app/webroot/css/popup.css. I have my site setup on a remote server with the same exact configurations and it works perfectly fine. I am just having this issue trying to run the site on my laptop at localhost. I edited my VirtualHosts file DocumentRoot and to /home/user/public_html/site.com/public/app/webroot/ and this reduces some errors but I feel that this is wrong and sort of hacking it since I didn't use these setting on my production server which works. The last note I want to make is that the website uses dynamic URLs. I dont know if that has anything to do with it. For example, on the production server the URLS are: site.com/#hello/12321. HERES WHAT I AM WORKING WITH: I have a LAMP server setup on my laptop which runs on Ubuntu 11.10. I have enabled mod_rewrite: sudo a2enmod rewrite Then I edited my Virtual Hosts file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName localhost DirectoryIndex index.php DocumentRoot /home/user/public_html/site.com/public <Directory /home/user/public_html/site.com/public/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> Then I restarted apache. My website is using cakePHP.   • Cannot make BartPE CD - how restore DriveImageXML image?

    I have a Windows Vista laptop that won't boot at all. On the D: drive I have DriveImage XML images of C: drive, but I don't have a BartPE boot CD and I don't have a Vista install CD. How can I image the C: using the images on D: if I can't make a BartPE CD because I can't boot to Windows? Is there a BartPE (with DriveImage XML plugin) iso I can download from somewhere, or what can I do? Thanks.

  • XP OEM licensing when reinstalling Windows XP

    My wife has managed to buy a Dell laptop she was using at her ex-employer that just went bust. The problem with it is the OS (Windows XP) which takes ages to boot and is generally disproportionally slow to the hardware of the machine. So my aim is to sacrifice a day and reinstall it. The problem I am slightly worried about is the licensing/registration/activation hell. Apart from the sticker (with WinXP license key), the laptop has no other paperwork proving this license is legitimate. I believe this was originally an OEM license. Unfortunately, I don't have the the installation CD. This computer also has MS Office installed (which I would like to retain) but it none of MS Office apps would launch due to some obscure error complaining about lack of free disk space (which computer has plenty of). I have absolutely no clue what kind of license this MS Office was. And because the company has gone into the administration, there is no way of getting this information nor installable media. I believe that by buying the hardware I have also acquired the software which I can use as I see fit. Correct me if I'm wrong. Above said, my question would be: What is the easiest way of reinstalling the XP? By easiest I mean avoiding spending my time to prove Microsoft support I've got the right to use the software (insert your computer says noooo joke here) but still being able to get to fresh virgin activated legal state of the XP. I used to work as a sysadmin many years ago so I am not afraid of any technical difficulties. The same question applies to MS Office. I imagine the process would consist of backing up all the data, pulling some bits from the registry and using that on the fresh install. As for reinstall I'd expect to use some sort of OEM Windows repair CD from Dell, right? Are those freely available? My other box (HP) has such a thing and it can't be used on any other brand. I'm sure somebody had to go through this licensing hell and could share his/her tips. Thanks in advance.

    I converted basic disk to dynamic on my laptop. However, now I cannot install Windows 7 on another partition. I just get message that installing them on dynamic disk is not supported. Is there a way to convert dynamic disk to basic without losing data on already existing partition?
