  • jQuery-ajax call: async property is not working?

    Hi, given to certain circumstances, I'm forced to keep page settings (Javascript-values) in the session and it has to be done right before leaving the page (I can't use cookies, since "pageSettings" can become quite large and localStorage is not an option yet ;) ). So this is how I tried it. However it seems that when I call the page directly again, the call of "http://blabla.com/bla" happens asynchronous, even though the async-attribute is set (I don't receive the settings of the previous call, but of the one before): $jQ(document).ready(function () { $jQ(window).unload(Main.__setSessionValues); }); var Main = { pageSettings: {}, __setSessionValues: function __setSessionValues() { $jQ.ajax({ type: "POST", async: false, url: "http://blabla.com/bla", data: { pageSettings: Object.toJSON(Main.pageSettings) } }); } }; Does anyone know what the problem might be? thanks in advance

  • Create a real time web application using .net framework and azure - very confused

    Let us say I would like a simple (yet complex) web application where there is continuous READING AND WRITING to the sql azure database. Let us say I am tracking a location, and I would like it to be updated very frequently (lets take the worst case: 1 second). From the little knowledge I have, I think that this involves the use of the database to continuously write the location to the database, and continuously read from the database to update another person through a website. Do you please have any suggestion which technologies can I use? Is there a simple way? I heard about node.js, signalR. I have no idea how to use them, if they are really what I need. the last tutorial I checked out simply uses a while(true) loop..but I don't think that that's something good to keep a thread continuously busy... Do I have to create some background task? Do I have to create some web service? This is a school project and I wish not to go for the most difficult option, but if there is some sort of solution, challenge accepted :) Can you please help me? Since I have asked many questions here and yet I have no solution in mind

    Is it possible to use a stored procedure that returns multiple result sets in json format and process them as part of one request using ajax calls in jquery? In other words, I have a stored procedure that returns several result sets that are to be used with a series of select boxes that are all being filtered by the same criteria. If any of the select boxes is chosen that value is then passed to the stored procedure and all the subsequent select box updates reflect only results that match the filtered criteria. I don't want to have to call the same sp multiple times to process the results and was trying not to create multiple queries, so I'm wondering if it's possible to store more than one json result in a single request and then store and process them on the client side.

  • How would you organize this in asp.net mvc?

    I have an asp.net mvc 2.0 application that contains Areas/Modules like calendar, admin, etc... There may be cases where more than one area needs to access the same Repo, so I am not sure where to put the Data Access Layers and Repositories. First Option: Should I create Data Access Layer files (Linq to SQL in my case) with their accompanying Repositories for each area, so each area only contains the Tables, and Repositories needed by those areas. The benefit is that everything needed to run that module is one place, so it is more encapsulated (in my mind anyway). The downside is that I may have duplicate queries, because other modules may use the same query. Second Option Or, would it be better to place the DAL and Repositories outside the Area's and treat them as Global? The advantage is I won't have any duplicate queries, but I may be loading a lot of unnecessary queries and DAL tables up for certain modules. It is also more work to reuse or modify these modules for future projects (though the chance of reusing them is slim to none :)) Which option makes more sense? If someone has a better way I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

    I have a problem with my form when I try to submit with ajax. I am using Malsup Form plugin for Jquery but also using tinyMCE editor. When I submit the form and check the $_POST array, there is no data from the textarea. I have tried to use the triggerSave() function but to no avail.     I am having an util class which is not owned by me. I am calling one of the method of that util class which inturn calls one ajax function. And gives me response back. I need to make a decision depending on the response object. The problem is that response object takes some time to populate(mili seconds). var selector = dojo.byId("SelectorId"); var theChart = new chart( selector, 135, 92, style, frequency, time); if(theChart.data ===null){ console.log("No response"); }else{ Console.log("Use response data"); } and chart( selector, 135, 92, style, frequency, time); is not owned by me. chart() is from util class. above snippet works fine with break point. But when I remove the breakpoint it starts going in "if" block always. Hows can I solve this issue.

    I am using a data grid and has bound a data source with it. I am trying to get the total number of records in the grid in overriden InitializePager method from pagedDataSource DataSourceCount. I thought DataSourceCount returns number of records from SelectCountMethod of ObjectDataSource, but DataSourceCount is giving me the page size and not the total number of records, whereas when I debug and see in SelectCountMethod it is returning correct number of total Records. I am not sure how to get the data from SelectCountMethod in DataGrid.

Basically, the code that I have right now is similar to: http://www.w3schools.com/PHP/php_ajax_database.asp I was wondering how should I modify those codes (both html, javascript and php) to create two drop down lists. The first drop list would be used for choosing the Lastname (eg. Swanson) and the second drop list would be used for choosing the Hometown (eg. Quahog).   • Best .NET Solution for Frequently Changed Database

    I am currently architecting a small CRUD applicaton. Their database is a huge mess and will be changing frequently over the course of the next 6 months to a year. What would you recommend for my data layer: 1) ORM (if so, which one?) 2) Linq2Sql 3) Stored Procedures 4) Parametrized Queries I really need a solution that will be dynamic enough (both fast and easy) where I can replace tables and add/delete columns frequently. Note: I do not have much experience with ORM (only a little SubSonic) and generally tend to use stored procedures so maybe that would be the way to go. I would love to learn Ling2Sql or NHibernate if either would allow for the situation I've described above.
