    The node-binary binary parser builds its object with the following pattern: exports.parse = function parse (buffer) { var self = {...} self.tap = function (cb) {...}; self.into = function (key, cb) {...}; ... return self; }; How do I inherit my own, enlightened parser from this? Is this pattern designed intentionally to make inheritance awkward? My only successful attempt thus far at inheriting all the methods of binary.parse(<something>) is to use _.extend as: var clever_parser = function(buffer) { if (this instanceof clever_parser) { this.parser = binary.parse(buffer); // I guess this is super.constructor(...) _.extend(this.parser, this); // Really? return this.parser; } else { return new clever_parser(buffer); } } This has failed my smell test, and that of others.     Theres no easy way to say this so ill just say it in the form of a story. Im looking for advice on which loops and where. Here goes: out of 200-odd fields in the database, i need to run the following against each field. extract allowed values using extract function place allowed values into an array loop the array to be inserted into a db table first check records dont already exist. if they dont exist insert into table. ive found myself playing with this for the past two days and getting tangled and tangled in loops. wondering if anybody can guide.

And I know with php we gotta learn so much other things also like javascript ajax xml database jquery + all the cms like joomla, drupal, phpbb etc etc. And in web worls u always had to learn injecting maps, calendars, payment gatewaysetc Do learning other languages have these much dependencies? And if php easy than isn't it good thing to have easy language. I can't imagine to built a website in assembly language(Is it possible?)

    Hi Guys, yesterday I had posted a question: How should I pass a pointer to a function and allocate memory for the passed pointer from inside the called function? From the answers I got, I was able to understand what mistake I was doing. I'm facing a new problem now, can anyone help out with this? I want to dynamically allocate a 2D array, so I'm passing a Pointer-to-Pointer from my main() to another function called alloc_2D_pixels(...), where I use malloc(...) and for(...) loop to allocate memory for the 2D array. Well, after returning from the alloc_2D_pixels(...) function, the pointer-to-pointer still remains NULL, so naturally, when I try accessing or try to free(...) the Pointer-to-Pointer, the program hangs. Can anyone suggest me what mistakes I'm doing here? Help!!!   • Generate non-identity primary key

    My workplace doesn't use identity columns or GUIDs for primary keys. Instead, we retrieve "next IDs" from a table as needed, and increment the value for each insert. Unfortunatly for me, LINQ-TO-SQL appears to be optimized around using identity columns. So I need to query and update the "NextId" table whenever I perform an insert. For simplicity, I do this immediately creating the new object. Since all operations between creation of the data context and the call to SubmitChanges are part of one transaction, do I need to create a separate data context for retrieving next IDs? Each time I need an ID, I need to query and update a table inside a transaction to prevent multiple apps from grabbing the same value. Is a separate data context the only way, or is there something better I could try?

  • How do programming languages bind identifiers to functions

    I'm talking about C and/or C++ here as this are the only languages I know used for interpreters where the following could be a problem: If we have an interpreted language X how can a library written for it add functions to the language which can then be called from within programs written in the language? PHP example: substr( $str, 5, 10 ); How is the function substr added to the "function pool" of PHP so it can be called from within scripts? It is easy for PHP storing all registered function names in an array and searching through it as a function is called in a script. However, as there obviously is no eval in C(++), how can the function then be called? I assume PHP doesn't have 100MB of code like: if( identifier == "substr" ) { return PHP_SUBSTR(...); } else if( ... ) { ... } Ha ha, that would be pretty funny. I hope you have understood my question so far. How do interpreters solve this problem? How can I solve this for my own experimental toy interpreter?

  • paperclip overwrites / resets S3 permissions for non-bucket-owners

    I have opened this as an issue on Github (http://github.com/thoughtbot/paperclip/issues/issue/225) but on the chance that I'm just doing this wrong, I thought I'd also ask about it here. If someone can tell me where I'm going wrong, I can close the issue and save the Paperclip guys some trouble. Issue: When using S3 for storage, and you wish your bucket to allow access to other users to whom you have granted access, Paperclip appears to overwrite the permissions on the bucket, removing access to these users. Process for duplication: Create a bucket in S3 and set up a Rails app with Paperclip to use this bucket for storage Add a user (for example, [email protected], the user for the video encoding service Zencoder) to the bucket, and grant this user List and Read/Write permissions. Upload a file. Refresh the permissions. The user you added will be gone. As well, a user "Everyone" with read permissions will have been added. The end result is that you cannot, so far as I can tell, retain desired permissions on your bucket when using Paperclip and S3. Can anyone help?

    I'm going to use C# to read data from a few webservices. I've done that many times before, but those times I've had direct access to the webservices from my development machine. In this project I've just been sent a .wsdl file, and a couple of .xsd files for the webservice they have in their local intranet. I've seen that I can use "Add Web Reference", and point directly to the .wsdl file, so that a C# class is created. But how can I really test it? I'd like to return some dummy data that I can visualize while I develop. Any tips for this situation?

  • Sphinx non-fulltext, integer only search

    Hello guys, I've got a few tables that literally only hold integers, no "words" and for some reason Sphinx is unable to hold this data in it's library. Just returns "0 bytes" errors for these indexes. Is it possible to do this? If so, how?     I have a small program to do in Java. I have a 2D array filled with 0 and 1, and I must find the largest rhombus (as in square rotated by 90 degrees) and their numbers.   • Aspect-Oriented Programming in OOP world - breaking rules ?

    Hi 2 all! When I worked on asp.net mvc web site project, I investigated different approaches for validation. Some of them were DataAnotation validation and Validation Block. They use attributes for setting up rules for validation. Like this: [Required] public string Name {get;set;} I was confused how this approach combines with SRP (single responsibilty principle) from OOP world. Also I don't like any business logic in business objects, I prefer "poor business objects" model, but when I decorate my business objects with validation attributes for real requirements, they become ugly (Has a lot of attributes / with localization logic and so on). Idea with attributes realy simple, but in my opinion the validation decoration should be separated from object. I'm not sure is the approach to separate validation rules to xml files or to another objects, maybe it is a solution. Another bad side of AOP - problems with unit testin such code. When I decorated some controller actions with custom attributes for example to import/export TempData between actions or initialize some required services I can't to write proper unit test for testing this actions. Do you think that attributes don't break srp or you just disregard this and think that it's simplest , is not worst way ? P.S. I read some likes articles and discussions and I just want to put things in proper order. P.P.S. sorry for my "fluent" english :=)

  • Inserting newlines into a GtkTextView widget (GTK+ programming)

    I've got a button which when clicked copies and appends the text from a GtkEntry widget into a GtkTextView widget. (This code is a modified version of an example found in the "The Text View Widget" chapter of Foundations of GTK+ Development.) I'm looking to insert a newline character before the text which gets copied and appended, such that each line of text will be on its own line in the GtkTextView widget. How would I do this? I'm brand new to GTK+.   • Object Oriented Programming in AS3

    I'm building a game in as3 that has balls moving and bouncing off the walls. When the user clicks an explosion appears and any ball that hits that explosion explodes too. Any ball that then hits that explosion explodes and so on. My question is what would be the best class structure for the balls. I have a level system to control levels and such and I've already come up with working ways to code the balls. Here's what I've done. My first attempt was to create a class for Movement, Bounce, Explosion and finally Orb. These all extended each other in the order I just named them. I got it working but having Bounce extend Movement and Explosion extend Bounce, it just doesn't seem very object oriented because what if I wanted to add a box class that didn't move, but did explode? I would need a separate class for that explosion. My second attempt was to create Movement, Bounce and Explosion without extending anything. Instead I passed in a reference to the Orb class to each. Then the class stores that reference and does what it needs to do based on events that are dispatched by the Orb such as update, which was broadcast from Orb every enter frame. This would drive the movement and bounce and also the explosion when the time came. This attempt worked as well but it just doesn't seem right. I've also thought about using Interfaces but because they are more of an outline for classes, I feel like code reuse goes out the window as each class would need its own code for a specific task even if that task is exactly the same. I feel as if I'm searching for some form of multiple inheritance for classes that as3 does not support. Can someone explain to me a better way of doing what I'm attempting to do? Am I being to "Object Oriented" by having classed for Movement, Bounce, Explosion and Orb? Are Interfaces the way to go? Any feedback is appreciated!

The point is, according to the hierarchy, I also want to query a table.   • php POST and non-english language passes empty

    I'm trying to program a Hebrew site with a search option. I am using php 5 with Apache 2.2, on a Debian 5 (Lenny) with appropriate code pages enabled. I am using _POST to pass arguments to a script. If I pass English word to the script everything works, but when I use Hebrew nothing is passed through the POST function. When I use ECHO to show _POST, the variable is empty. What might be the problem?
