  • Are there any solutions for translating measurement units on Rails?

    - by Leonid Shevtsov
I'd like to implement measurement unit preferences in a Ruby on Rails app. For instance, the user should be able to select between displaying distances in miles or in kilometers. And, obviously, not only displaying, but entering values, too. I suppose all values should be stored in one global measurement system to simplify calculations. Are there any drop-in solutions for this? Or should I maybe write my own?

  • Java JSpinner Prevent Letter Insertion

    - by asmo
A JSpinner is used to store a number in my application (with a SpinnerNumberModel). As expected, the spinner doesn't allow invalid characters (letters, symbols, etc.) to be stored. However, those characters do appear in the spinner component when I type them in. As soon as I switch the focus to another component, they disappear. Is there a way to prevent invalid characters from appearing in the spinner?

  • Image upload storage strategies

    - by MatW
When a user uploads an image to my site, the image goes through this process; user uploads pic store pic metadata in db, giving the image a unique id async image processing (thumbnail creation, cropping, etc) all images are stored in the same uploads folder So far the site is pretty small, and there are only ~200,000 images in the uploads directory. I realise I'm nowhere near the physical limit of files within a directory, but this approach clearly won't scale, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on upload / storage strategies for handling large volumes of image uploads.

  • Fresh install CentOS 6.4 64b with directadmin slowly consumes all memory and crashes

    - by Coen Ponsen
Dear server fault community, This is my first question on server fault, i'm new to server (mis)configuration so please forgive me for asking something stupid :) I'm running Directadmin on a CentOS 6.4 64b with 4GB memory and over 10000Gh virtual machine. I migrated my websites because my former vps couldn't keep up anymore. Only half of the websites from this 1GB machine were migrated jet. So the migration is still in progress and already my server crashes every day. The server performance up until that moment is perfect. The directadmin log files show nothing out of the ordinary. Yesterday only the mysql server crashed but it also crashed the entire machine before. The memory usage in DA seems to be normal: directadmin directadmin (pid 3923 22158 22159 22160 22161 22162 )8.75 MB dovecot dovecot (pid 3851 ) 47.8 MB exim exim (pid 1350 ) 1.29 MB httpd (pid 21525 21528 21529 21530 21531 21532 21546 21571 21742 21743 21744 )490.4 MB mysqld mysqld (pid 1299 ) 287.8 MB named named (pid 3807 ) 16.3 MB proftpd proftpd (pid 1481 ) 1.91 MB sshd sshd (pid 1173 21494 ) 5.16 MB Restarting services immediately frees up memory, but slowly over time the memory usage increases(about 24 hours to crash). The commands: # sync # echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches Will free al memory correct. I could just create a cronjob but it seems the wrong way around to me. I can't seem to pinpoint the cause. Any advices, references or tips are highly appreciated! Greetings, Coen edit: free -m : after drop_caches: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 3830 735 3095 0 0 21 -/+ buffers/cache: 712 3117 Swap: 991 0 991 I'll post another one this evening.

  • Second CPU missing of Dual Core

    - by Zardoz
My Lenovo T61 has a dual core CPU. I just noticed that under Ubuntu 10.10 only one CPU is recognized. I know that once both CPUs worked. Not sure since when the second CPU is missing. • Is web.config more secure than a class?

    - by o-logn
I was reading a tutorial on ASP.NET and third party API's and it mentioned that the API KEY and SECRET KEY should be stored in the web.config file, for security on production servers, instead of in the classes that use them. However, I'm not quite sure what's more secure about a web.config file than a class? I understand the convenience of storing it in a config file, but I don't see the security benefit?

  • compiling a linq to sql query

    - by frenchie
Hi, I have queries that are built like this: public static List<MyObjectModel> GetData (int MyParam) { using (DataModel MyModelDC = new DataModel()) { var MyQuery = from.... select MyObjectModel { ...} } return new List<MyObjectModel> (MyQuery) } } It seems that using compiled linq-to-sql queries are about as fast as stored procedures and so the goal is to convert these queries into compiled queries. What's the syntax for this? Thanks.

  • Reading in gzipped data from S3 in Ruby

    - by Evan Zamir
My company has data messages (json) stored in gzipped files on Amazon S3. I want to use Ruby to iterate through the files and do some analytics. I started to use the 'aws/s3' gem, and get get each file as an object: #<AWS::S3::S3Object:0x4xxx4760 '/my.company.archive/data/msg/20131030093336.json.gz'> But once I have this object, I do not know how to unzip it or even access the data inside of it.

  • How to Enable Full-Text Index on Sql Server 2008 Table

    - by michaeldelorenzo
Not sure what's happening with this, but here's my question. I have a Sql Server 2008 database that I need to be able to do full-text indexing/searching but when I try to setup my indices on the table, I get the following: I've tried running this stored procedure on my database and it's successful: EXEC sp_fulltext_database @action = 'enable' But I still get the above window and my full-text searches don't return any results when they should. What am I missing?

  • Visualization in "VisIt"

    - by Naveen
Hi, Did any one over here work in "VisIt" visualization software? I have a dataset where the x, y, z coordinates are stored in separate bin files, i don't know how to visualize these files in VisIt, which would be the best file format to use. Till now, we were using Advanced Visual System (AVS) .fld files to read the data in AVS, now we have to switch to VisIt, don't know how to do it. Would appreciate if anyone can give some pointers in this direction.

  • Best practice? - Array/Dictionary as a Core Data Entity Attribute

    - by Run Loop
I am new to Core Data. I have noticed that collection types are not available as attribute types and would like to know what the most efficient way is of storing array/dictionary type data as an attribute (e.g. the elements that make up an address like street, city, etc. does not require a separate entity and is more conveniently stored as a dictionary/array than separate attributes/fields). Thank you.

  • Storing and retrieving dynamically created pdf in sql using c#

    - by mwright
I have been playing around with creation of pdf documents for a project that I'm working on. I would like to store the generated pdf document in a SQL database and then later be able to retrieve this pdf as well. What are some suggestions for doing this? Can the document be stored in the database without physically creating the document on the server?
