• Decorator for determining HTTP response from a view

  I want to create a decorator that will allow me to return a raw or "string" representation of a view if a GET parameter "raw" equals "1". The concept works, but I'm stuck on how to pass context to my renderer.   I am working through the Django RSS reader project here. The RSS feed will read something like "OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — James Harden let". The RSS feed's encoding reads encoding="UTF-8" so I believe I am passing utf-8 to markdown in the code snippet below. The em dash is where it chokes. I get the Django error of "'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\u2014' in position 109: ordinal not in range(128)" which is an UnicodeEncodeError. In the variables being passed I see "OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) \u2014 James Harden". The code line that is not working is: content = content.encode(parsed_feed.encoding, "xmlcharrefreplace") I am using markdown 2.0, django 1.1, and python 2.4. What is the magic sequence of encoding and decoding that I need to do to make this work? Thanks.

  I'm using Phusion Passenger with a ruby app and I'd also like to set it up to work with an django appengine app I'm working on. Googling for "passenger_wsgi.py" I was able to get the following very simple non-django app working on passenger: passenger_wsgi.py: def application(environ, start_response): response_headers = [('Content-type','text/plain')] start_response('200 OK', response_headers) return ['Hello World!\n'] However, if I add the line import django.core.handlers.wsgi into the mix, I get 'An error occurred importing your passenger_wsgi.py'. By printing out the sys.path I've discovered that at least part of the reason is because Passenger is using the wrong python installation on my machine. How can I configure Passenger (on apache) to use /opt/local/bin/python2.5 instead of the system default python?

  I have this swf (flash) file that provides the json that needs to be sent to the server. I wrote a very simple jQuery: function submitForm(swf_json) { $('#swfjson').val(swf_json); #swfjson is an input of type hidden $('#titleForm').submit(); } and the swf will call the submitForm above and I receive the request.POST in django as usual. But, django is interpreting the swf_json as a string "Object object" >>>type(request.POST['swfjson']) <type 'unicode'> Of course I can pass the json as a string to the view function. Doesn't seem good to me. Any other way of passing the json object to the django view?

  Hello, I have a problem when upgrading a django and mysql app with south. I've tried to make a sql-based upgrade with the code generated by the django sqlall command and I have a similar problem. • Aptana Studio is opening but not ever closing a python.exe process

  I am developing a small testing website using Django 1.2 in Aptana Studio build 2.0.4.1268158907. I have a Django project that I test by running the command "runserver 8001" on my project. This command runs the project on a small server that comes with Django. However the problem arises that every time I run this command Aptana opens two instances of the process "python.exe". Upon terminating the command only one of these instances is ended. The other process continues to run and use memory. My server is not online, and the process doesn't seem to do anything that I can find. This happens every time i run the runserver command on my project and therefore more and more python.exe instances will open up through my development period. Any help discovering either the purpose of this extra python.exe or a way to prevent it from opening would be much appreciated.

• Python: How to quit CLI when stuck in blocking raw_input?

  I have a GUI program which should also be controllable via CLI (for monitoring). The CLI is implemented in a while loop using raw_input. If I quit the program via a GUI close button, it hangs in raw_input and does not quit until it gets an input. How can I immediately abort raw_input without entering an input? I run it on WinXP but I want it to be platform independent, it should also work within Eclipse since it is a developer tool. Python version is 2.6. I searched stackoverflow for hours and I know there are many answers to that topic, but is there really no platform independent solution to have a non-blocking CLI reader? If not, what would be the best way to overcome this problem? Thanks

This occurs sometimes when I change selections in the filter. It also occurs when the machine has been under heavy load and then will consistently error until SSAS is restarted. • SSRS2008R2 report times out, but the underlying query executes in the Management Studio

  A customer of mine recently moved servers and the new server has SQL2008R2. His old server was SQL2005. The new server has substantially better CPU, RAM, and disk performance than the old, but several reports time out while executing. When I run the underlying query in the SQL Management Studio, the query executes in sub-second time. The exact error message returned via the Report Manager UI is: An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. (rsReportServerDatabaseError) Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. It must be noted that this database is not just analytical; it's also fairly transactional, although the transaction volume is not exceptionally high. What can I do to improve the performance of the SSRS query engine? Are there settings in the data source I can adjust, or in the SSRS config files?

• Mysql Query - That Is Returning Blatanty Incorrect Result

  I am building a VPS node that is running Ubuntu 10.10LTS, Apache2, Mysql 5.1 and php5. I could not log in to my website admin through the browser, even though I am using the correct login details. So I logged in from the command line to check the results. When I run this query I get expected results: mysql> select * from users; +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ | id | username | email | password | +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ | 1 | myUserName | [email protected] | myPassword | +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ And the same goes for this query: mysql> select * from users where id = 1; +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ | id | username | email | password | +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ | 1 | myUserName | [email protected] | myPassword | +----+----------+-----------------------+----------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) But when I run this query I get this 'unexpected response': mysql> select * from users where username = 'myUserName' and password = 'myPassword'; Empty set (0.00 sec) I am not sure why this is happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW.. I will be encrypting the user details but for now I just want to get it set up. Please help, Thanks

• Automating Access 2007 Queries (changing one criteria)

  So, I have 6 queries and I want to run them all once at the end of each month. (I know a bit about SQL but they're simply built using Access's design view). So, in the next few days, perhaps I'll run the 6 queries for May, as May just ended. I only want the data from the month that just ended, so the query has Criteria set as the name of the month (e.g., May). Now, it's not hugely time consuming to change all of these each month, but is there some way to automate this? Currently, they're all set to April and I want to change them all to May when I run them in a few days. And each month, I'd like to type the month (perhaps in a textbox in a form or somewhere else if you know a better way) just once and have it change all 6 queries, without having to manually open all 6, scroll over to the right field and change the Criteria. Note (about VBA): I have used Excel VBA so I know the basics of VBA but I don't really know anything specific to Access (other than seeing code a few times). And, others will use this who do not know anything about Access VBA. So, I think I have found a similar question/answer that could do this in VBA, but I'd rather do it some other way. If the query needs to be slightly redesigned later, probably by someone who doesn't know Access VBA at all, it'd be nice to have a solution not involving VBA if that is even possible.

  I would very much like to install OSQA on my host (provided/owned by my friend), but I can not make heads or tails of how I would go about doing it; a lot of the dependancies and such can't be installed with the current level of access (or most probably just knowledge) that I have. I can provide any further information required, and attempt to contact (friend) to see if he can do any of it for me, but I'm unsure as to how often I will be able to contact him. exec and shell_exec are not disabled on the server. If there are any other alternatives that I could use, please let me know! I tried Qwench but that was pretty buggy. I can usually deal with these kind of things, but this is my first foray into Python stuff!

Basically, I have a POST form that is handled with ajax. When I click "submit" on my form and the ajax request runs, the call returns "POST http://192.168.1.110:8000/api/private/client_basic_info/ 404 (NOT FOUND)" I have the URL configured alright, I think. What exactly haven't I implemented? I am subclassing ModelResource, which should have all the ORM-related functions implemented according to the docs.

  Do any of the popular web frameworks solve this problem well? Here's an example: suppose you're running one of these web frameworks and you want to install a blog plugin. Except instead of a single blog, you need to run two separate instances of the blog plugin, and you want to keep them segregated. Or say you want to install multiple instances of a user authentication plugin, because you want to segregate your administrative users from your customer user accounts. Or say you want to install multiple instances of a wiki plugin for different parts of your site, or multiple instances of a comments plugin, or whatever else. It seems to me that at the basic level, each instance of plugin would need to be able to configured with a different set of database tables, and would need to be 'installed' at a different URL path. My experience is mostly with Django and Symfony, and I haven't seen a clean solution to this problem in either of them. They both tend to assume that each plugin (or app, in Django's case) is only ever going to be installed once. I'm curious if the Rails folks have figured out a clean solution to this problem, or any other framework authors (in any language). And if you were going to design a solution to this problem, what would it look like?

  Has .NET (C#) anything like Django's Signals engine? Our business logic become really complicated over few years of adding new features. I'm going to re-architecture it. Currently all features are very coupled that makes regression errors while changing something one one place - some other place may be broken. I really like Django's apps idea where separate applications introduce new functionality and are absolutely separate. Communication between apps is implemented though signals. I wounder if there is something in .NET that allows to divide project business to many separated "apps" (plug-ins, zones, modules, you name it) and make communication using some kind of "signals". For example we have simple order flow. We can add "coupon app" that if exists in the project adds abilities to use discount coupon. We can add "cross sale" module that if exists adds abilities to offer cross-sale products Email notification module that if exists adds abilities to send order email notifications. But in the same time all this modules are "self-contained" means that communication between them is done using emitting signals (ORDER_PROCCESS_START, ORDER_SUCCESS, etcs) and other modules can subscribe to this signals and process them in required way. This architecture is not related to web, all business logic is processed on the server side like without working with HTTP directly. • How should I configure my Apache Hosts File to serve a different site for localhost than for my domain/publicip?

  I'm trying to test out a LAMP (with PHP5 specifically) setup with Django already serving a website. I want to do the PHP stuff on localhost for now, so that when I do something like this: curl http://localhost/database/script.php?var=1, I get a response from the php server. Right now I'm getting a Django error. I tried something like this in the default file in sites-available: Listen 80 <VirtualHost aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd> ServerName localhost DocumentRoot /home/phpsite </VirtualHost> where aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd is the local ip address, and changing my actual site's settings to specify the public ip, like this: Listen 80 <VirtualHost www.xxx.yyy.zzz> ServerName mysite.com DocumentRoot /srv/www/mysite WSGIScriptAlias / /srv/www/mysite.wsgi </VirtualHost> but then I start getting all kinds of errors when I start apache, such as port ::[80] is already in use or something. I noticed that the hosts file that's located in /etc/apache2/ is apparently pointing everything to mysite.com, including my local ip as well as 127.0.0.1 and 127.0.1.1; Do I need to change the configuration there too?

• Hibernate Query Exception

  I've got a hibernate query I'm trying to get working but keep getting an exception with a not so helpful stack trace.
