• How to handle duplicate symbol error from 3rd party libraries?

- by brettr
I have two 3rd party libraries that seem to use the same class. That should be fine but I'm getting this type of error when building: ld: duplicate symbol .objc_class_name_CJSONScanner in /Users/myappOne/TapjoyConnect/Frameworks/libTapjoyConnectSimulatorRewardInstall_Ads_Pinch.a(CJSONScanner.o) and /Developer/Projects/BuildOutput/Debug-iphonesimulator/OtherLibrary_d.a(CJSONScanner.o) How can I handle this issue?

• sqlite issue using WHERE statement on a varchar field in Objective-C

- by Geykel
Hi, I have this sql statement SELECT * FROM Language WHERE LanguageCode=? where LanguageCode is a varchar(2). When I use sqlite3-prepare-v2 on that statement I got SQLITE_ERROR but if I use SELECT * FROM Language WHERE LanguageID=? where LanguageID is the primary key numeric identity field the statement compiles just fine. Is there any issue filtering by a varchar field using WHERE statement? Thanks

• UISlider won't display

- by user290295
I have been having a lot of difficulty adding custom track images to a UISlider. Whenever I do this, whether to a nib created UISlider or a hand programmed UISlider the slider refuses to display. Also, I even commented the track image code out below and the UISlider still refuses to display. There are other nib created sliders in the controlView that display and function fine. if (![self loadView:keyboardControlView intoSuperview:controlView withNib:@"KeyboardControl"]) { NSLog(@"Could not load controlView from nib into synthControlView"); } // nibSlider is an outlet to a UISlider in the above loaded nib file CGRect sliderFrame = nibSlider.frame; float sliderMinimum = nibSlider.minimumValue; float sliderMaximum = nibSlider.maximumValue; float sliderValue = nibSlider.value; // remove from superview, implicitly releasing UISlider [nibSlider removeFromSuperview]; // reuse pointer to allocate new UISlider using rect obtained from nib nibSlider = [[UISlider alloc] initWithFrame:sliderFrame]; nibSlider.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; nibSlider.minimumValue = sliderMinimum; nibSlider.maximumValue = sliderMaximum; nibSlider.continuous = YES; nibSlider.value = sliderValue; //[nibSlider setMinimumTrackImage:[[UIImage imageNamed:@"violetslider.png"] //stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:5.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; // //[nibSlider setMaximumTrackImage:[[UIImage imageNamed:@"violetslider.png"] // stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:5.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [nibSlider addTarget:delegate action:@selector(sliderUpdate:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventValueChanged]; [controlView addSubview:nibSlider]; // do not release here as slider will need to remain cached. push onto a release stack. [nibSlider setNeedsDisplay];

• MPMediaPickerController, MPMediaItems, and NSData

- by ckrames1234
I was wondering if Apple allowed you to access the MPMediaItem's raw data as an NSData object. If you can, thats great and I would like to know how. If you cannot, then Apple is way too over-protective, and my app that i started is utterly useless. Also if you cannot, Is there any hacky workarounds? I don't care if Apple doesn't accept my app as it would still be cool if me and my friends all had it. Thanks, Conrad

• Can a variable bu used 2nd time after releasing it?

- by Jakub
Hello, I try to understand the memory management in ObjectiveC and still some things are a misery for me. I've got an instance variable: NSMutableArray *postResultsArray; when a button is clicked in the UI I create new array: self.postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; then I add some objects to the array and when the whole operation is done I would like to release the array: [self.postResultsArray release]; (I assume that all the objects stoed in the array will be released along with the array). The problem appears when I click the button again and in the code I want to create the array again with: self.postResultsArray = [NSMutableArray array]; I get: [CFArray release]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x3d9e390 Can't I initialize the same instance variable for the second time? or maybe I should not release it? and if so, why? Thanks!

• inserting new relationship data in core-data

- by michael
My app will allow users to create a personalised list of events from a large list of events. I have a table view which simply displays these events, tapping on one of them takes the user to the event details view, which has a button "add to my events". In this detailed view I own the original event object, retrieved via an NSFetchedResultsController and passed to the detailed view (via a table cell, the same as the core data recipes sample). I have no trouble retrieving/displaying information from this "event". I am then trying to add it to the list of MyEvents represented by a one to many (inverse) relationship: This code: NSManagedObjectContext *context = [event managedObjectContext]; MyEvents *myEvents = (MyEvents *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"MyEvents" inManagedObjectContext:context]; [myEvents addEventObject:event];//ERROR And this code (suggested below): //would this add to or overwrite the "list" i am attempting to maintain NSManagedObjectContext *context = [event managedObjectContext]; MyEvents *myEvents = (MyEvents *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"MyEvents" inManagedObjectContext:context]; NSMutableSet *myEvent = [myEvents mutableSetValueForKey:@"event"]; [myEvent addObject:event]; //ERROR Bot produce (at the line indicated by //ERROR): *** -[NSComparisonPredicate evaluateWithObject:]: message sent to deallocated instance Seems I may have missed something fundamental. I cant glean any more information through the use of debugging tools, with my knowledge of them. 1) Is this a valid way to compile and store an editable list like this? 2) Is there a better way? 3) What could possibly be the deallocated instance in error? -- I have now modified the Event entity to have a to-many relationship called "myEvents" which referrers to itself. I can add Events to this fine, and logging the object shows the correct memory addresses appearing for the relationship after a [event addMyEventObject:event];. The same failure happens right after this however. I am still at a loss to understand what is going wrong. This is the backtrace #0 0x01f753a7 in ___forwarding___ () #1 0x01f516c2 in __forwarding_prep_0___ () #2 0x01c5aa8f in -[NSFetchedResultsController(PrivateMethods) _preprocessUpdatedObjects:insertsInfo:deletesInfo:updatesInfo:sectionsWithDeletes:newSectionNames:treatAsRefreshes:] () #3 0x01c5d63b in -[NSFetchedResultsController(PrivateMethods) _managedObjectContextDidChange:] () #4 0x0002e63a in _nsnote_callback () #5 0x01f40005 in _CFXNotificationPostNotification () #6 0x0002bef0 in -[NSNotificationCenter postNotificationName:object:userInfo:] () #7 0x01bbe17d in -[NSManagedObjectContext(_NSInternalNotificationHandling) _postObjectsDidChangeNotificationWithUserInfo:] () #8 0x01c1d763 in -[NSManagedObjectContext(_NSInternalChangeProcessing) _createAndPostChangeNotification:withDeletions:withUpdates:withRefreshes:] () #9 0x01ba25ea in -[NSManagedObjectContext(_NSInternalChangeProcessing) _processRecentChanges:] () #10 0x01bdfb3a in -[NSManagedObjectContext processPendingChanges] () #11 0x01bd0957 in _performRunLoopAction () #12 0x01f4d252 in __CFRunLoopDoObservers () #13 0x01f4c65f in CFRunLoopRunSpecific () #14 0x01f4bc48 in CFRunLoopRunInMode () #15 0x0273878d in GSEventRunModal () #16 0x02738852 in GSEventRun () #17 0x002ba003 in UIApplicationMain () solution I managed to get to the bottom of this. I was fetching the event in question using a NSFetchedResultsController with a NSPredicate which I was releasing after I had the results. Retrieving values from the entities returned was no problem, but when I tried to update any of them it gave the error above. It should not have been released. oustanding part of my question What is a good way to create this sub list from a list of existing items in terms of a core data model. I don't believe its any of the ways I tried here. I need to show/edit it in another table view. Perhaps there is a better way than a boolean property on each event entity? The relationship idea above doesn't seem to work here (even though I can now create it). Cheers.

• How can I present a modal view controller after selecting a contact?

In my - (BOOL)peoplePickerNavigationController:(ABPeoplePickerNavigationController *)peoplePicker shouldContinueAfterSelectingPerson:(ABRecordRef)person method, I dismiss peoplePicker, create an instance of my new view controller, then present it with [self.navigationController presentModalViewController:newController animated:YES]; and it doesnt work. However if i PUSH the view controller it works with this code: [self.navigationController pushViewController:newController animated:YES]; How can I accomplish this? Thank you,

• Appending string in NSXMLNode

Hi, When I call the method setStringValue:mCurrentString when is encountered, the child elements which are already attached to element are detached. Can any one suggest why it is happening so. The sample XML file goes like this: <Test xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" Version="1.0"> <Page Id="123-234-345-456-567"> <Word/> <Text Id="234-345-456-567-678" Left="120.789" Top="120.234657" Width="300.2390" Height="50.00">
<FlowDocument FontFamily="Helvetica" FontSize="24" Foreground="#FFFFFF00" TextAlignment="Left" PagePadding="5,0,5,0" AllowDrop="True" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"><Paragraph><Run FontFamily="Helvetica" FontSize="24" Foreground="FF00B38D" xml:lang="en-gb">This is for Testing purpose</Run></Paragraph>
<Stroke Color="#FF00B300" Width="10"/> </Text>
Bear.png
</Page> <Page Id="345-897-123-756-098" Left="100.90" Top="200.098" Width="200.098" Height="50.09">
Flower.png
</Page> </Test> This is the method i am using for an NSXMLElement object: [mCurrentElement setStringValue:mCurrentString];// mCurrentString is the string that obtained through delegate method.

• Advanced Localization with Omission of Arguments in Xcode

- by coneybeare
I have this formatted string that I am having a translator work on. ENGLISH "Check out the %1$@ %2$@ in %3$@: %4$@" = "Check out the %1$@ %2$@ in %3$@: %4$@" GERMAN TRANSLATION "Check out the %1$@ %2$@ in %3$@: %4$@" = "Hör Dir mal %2$@ in %3$@ an: %4$@"; These are passed to a [NSString stringWithFormat:] call: ////////////////////////////////////// // Share Over Twitter NSString *frmt = NSLocalizedString(@"Check out the %1$@ %2$@ in %3$@: %4$@", @"The default tweet for sharing sounds. Use %1$@ for where the sound type (Sound, mix, playlist) will be, %2$@ for where the audio name will be, %3$@ for the app name, and %3$@ for where the sound link will be."); NSString *urlString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"sounds/%@", SoundSoundID(audio)]; NSString *url = ([audio audioType] == UAAudioTypeSound ? UrlFor(urlString) : APP_SHORTLINK); NSString *msg = [NSString stringWithFormat: frmt, [[Audio titleForAudioType:[audio audioType]] lowercaseString], [NSString stringWithFormat:@"\"%@\"", AudioName(audio)], APP_NAME, url]; NSString *applink = [NSString stringWithFormat:@" %@", APP_SHORTLINK]; if (msg.length <= (140 - applink.length)) { msg = [msg stringByAppendingString:applink]; } returnString = msg; With the desired and actual outcome of: ENGLISH desired: "Check out the sound "This Sound Name" in My App Name: link_to_sound link_to_app" actual: "Check out the sound "This Sound Name" in My App Name: link_to_sound link_to_app" GERMAN desired: "Hör Dir mal "This Sound Name" in My App Name an: link_to_sound link_to_app" actual: "Hör Dir mal sound in "This Sound Name" an: My App Name link_to_app" THE PROBLEM The problem is that I was under the assumption that by using numbered variable in the NSLocalizedString, I could do things like this, where the %1$@ variable is completely omitted. If you notice, the German translation of the format string does not use the first argument (%1$@) at all but it ("sound") still appears in the output string. What am I doing wrong?

• Adding back button to navigation bar

- by 4thSpace
I've added a navigation bar to a UIViewController. It is displayed from another UIViewController only. I'd like to have a left side back button that is shaped similar to an arrow, just like the normal navigation bar back button. It seems I can only add a bar button through IB. I'm guessing the back button needs to be added programmatically. Any suggestions on how I should do this?

• Blurred PNGs on UIView, using Interface Builder

- by Christopher Stamper
Hey everyone, I've added some UIImageViews with png images to my view, using interface builder. Initially they are added off-screen. Later, I animate them onto the screen with CoreAnimation, like so: [UIView beginAnimations:@"slide" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.1f]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; image.frame = CGRectMake(81+1, 390, 150, 80); [UIView commitAnimations]; Once they appear onscreen, they look really blurred or fuzzy. I've heard of this happening before. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it?

• Custom Button on top of another custom button?

- by Jim
I'm trying to make two custom buttons in code. One that fills the full screen with a small button on top. The problem I'm having is the larger button is triggered when the smaller button is tapped. I've tried doing exactly the same thing with IB and it works. Is there some sort of trapping/masking method that I need to use with code? I've checked the documentation and not come across anything that would suggest why this is happening. CGRect bFrame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 480); UIButton *cancelButton = [[UIButton alloc] init]; cancelButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; cancelButton.frame = bFrame; [cancelButton setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]]; [cancelButton addTarget:self action:@selector(animate:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; UIButton *priceButton = [[UIButton alloc] init]; priceButton.center = CGPointMake(228, 98); [priceButton addTarget:self action:@selector(callNumber:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [priceButton setTitle:@"BUY" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; //[cancelButton addSubview:priceButton]; [self.view addSubview:cancelButton]; [self.view bringSubviewToFront:priceButton];

• How can I get the main thread to sleep while waiting for a delgate to be called?

- by Erik B
Consider a class with these methods: - (id) initWithFrame: (CGRect) frame { if (!(self = [super init])) return nil; webView = [[UIWebView alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; [webView setDelegate:self]; lock = [[NSConditionLock alloc] initWithCondition:LOCK_WAIT]; return self; } - (void) setHTML: (NSString *) html { [lock lockWhenCondition:LOCK_WAIT]; [webView loadHTMLString:html baseURL:nil]; [lock unlock]; } - (void)webViewDidFinishLoad:(UIWebView *)aWebView { [lock lockWhenCondition:LOCK_WAIT]; // Locking to be able to unlock and change the condition. [lock unlockWithCondition:LOCK_GO]; } - (NSString *) stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString: (NSString *) jsCommand { [lock lockWhenCondition:LOCK_GO]; return [webView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:jsCommand]; [lock unlock]; } Let's call this class SynchronousUIWebView. From the main thread I execute: webView = [[SynchronousUIWebView alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; [webView setHTML:html]; [webView stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString:jsCommand]; The problem seems to be that the delegate is not called until I leave the current call stack, which I don't since I'm waiting for the delegate call to happen, aka deadlock. To me it seems like the delegate call is pushed to a queue that is called when the current call is done. So the question is can I modify this behavior? Note: The reason this is needed is that I can't execute the JavaScript until the HTML has loaded.

• How can I tell when something outside my UITableViewCell has been touched?

- by kk6yb
Similar to this question I have a custom subclass of UITableViewCell that has a UITextField. Its working fine except the keyboard for doesn't go away when the user touches a different table view cell or something outside the table. I'm trying to figure out the best place to find out when something outside the cell is touched, then I could call resignFirstResponder on the text field. If the UITableViewCell could receive touch events for touches outside of its view then it could just resignFirstResponder itself but I don't see any way to get those events in the cell. The solution I'm considering is to add a touchesBegan:withEvent: method to the view controller. There I could send a resignFirstResponder to all tableview cells that are visible except the one that the touch was in (let it get the touch event and handle it itself). Maybe something like this pseudo code: - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { CGPoint touchPoint = // TBD - may need translate to cell's coordinates for (UITableViewCell* aCell in [theTableView visibleCells]) { if (![aCell pointInside:touchPoint withEvent:event]) { [aCell resignFirstResponder]; } } } I'm not sure if this is the best way to go about this. There doesn't seem to be any way for the tableviewcell itself to receive event notifications for events outside its view.

• Customizing UISlider look

- by tcurdt
To customize the visual look of a UISlider you can set the thumb and track images. Part of the track images gets stretched to the appropriate with. From the documentation: A stretchable region sits between two end cap regions. The end caps define the portions of the image that remain as is and are not stretched. The stretchable region is a 1-point wide area between the end caps that can be replicated to make the image appear longer. Now the problem I have is that my stretchable region needs to be more than 1-point wide. (It's a pattern) Unfortunately the 1-point width seems to be hard coded in the SDK. Anyone having an idea how to work around this? Or will I have to write my own slider from scratch for this?

• If array is thread safe, what the issue with this function?

- by Ajay Sharma
I am totally lost with the things that is happening with my code.It make me to think & get clear with Array's thread Safe concept. Is NSMutableArray OR NSMutableDictionary Thread Safe ? While my code is under execution, the values for the MainArray get's changes although, that has been added to Array. Please try to execute this code, onyour system its very much easy.I am not able to get out of this Trap. It is the function where it is returning Array. What I am Looking to do is : -(Array) (Main Array) --(Dictionary) with Key Value (Multiple Dictionary in Main Array) ----- Above dictionary has 9 Arrays in it. This is the structure I am developing for Array. But even before #define TILE_ROWS 3 #define TILE_COLUMNS 3 #define TILE_COUNT (TILE_ROWS * TILE_COLUMNS) -(NSArray *)FillDataInArray:(int)counter { NSMutableArray *temprecord = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for(int i = 0; i <counter;i++) { if([temprecord count]<=TILE_COUNT) { NSMutableDictionary *d1 = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc]init]; [d1 setValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d/2011",i+1] forKey:@"serial_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Friday 13 Sep 12:00 AM" forKey:@"date_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Description Details " forKey:@"details_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Subject Line" forKey:@"subject_data"]; [temprecord addObject:d1]; d1= nil; [d1 release]; if([temprecord count]==TILE_COUNT) { NSMutableDictionary *holderKey = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc]initWithObjectsAndKeys:temprecord,[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",[casesListArray count]+1],nil]; [self.casesListArray addObject:holderKey]; [holderKey release]; holderKey =nil; [temprecord removeAllObjects]; } } else { [temprecord removeAllObjects]; NSMutableDictionary *d1 = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc]init]; [d1 setValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d/2011",i+1] forKey:@"serial_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Friday 13 Sep 12:00 AM" forKey:@"date_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Description Details " forKey:@"details_data"]; [d1 setValue:@"Subject Line" forKey:@"subject_data"]; [temprecord addObject:d1]; d1= nil; [d1 release]; } } return temprecord; [temprecord release]; } What is the problem with this Code ? Every time there are 9 records in Array, it just replaces the whole Array value instead of just for specific key Value.

• performSelector:withObject:afterDelay: not working from scrollViewDidZoom

- by oldbeamer
Hi all, I feel like I should know this but I've been stumped for hours now and I've run out of ideas. The theory is simple, the user manipulates the zoom and positioning in a scrollview using a pinch. If they hold that pinch for a short period of time then the scrollview records the zoom level and content offsets. So I thought I'd start a performSelector:withObject:withDelay on the scrollViewDidZoom delegate method. If it expires then I record the settings. I delete the scheduled call every time scrollViewDidZoom is called and when the pinch gesture finishes. This is what I have: - (void)scrollViewDidZoom:(UIScrollView *)scrollView{ NSLog(@"resetting timer"); [NSObject cancelPreviousPerformRequestsWithTarget:self selector:@selector(positionLock) object:nil]; [self performSelector:@selector(positionLock) withObject:nil afterDelay:0.4]; } -(void)positionLock{ NSLog(@"position locked "); } - (void)scrollViewDidEndZooming:(UIScrollView *)scrollView withView:(UIView *)view atScale:(float)scale{ NSLog(@"deleting timer"); [NSObject cancelPreviousPerformRequestsWithTarget:self selector:@selector(positionLock) object:nil]; } This is the output: 2010-05-19 22:43:01.931 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:01.964 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:02.231 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:02.253 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:02.269 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:02.298 resetting timer 2010-05-19 22:43:05.399 deleting timer As you can see the delay between the last and second last events should have been more than enough for the delayed selector call to execute. If I replace performSelector:withObject:withDelay with plain old performSelector: I get this: 2010-05-19 23:08:30.333 resetting timer 2010-05-19 23:08:30.333 position locked 2010-05-19 23:08:30.366 resetting timer 2010-05-19 23:08:30.367 position locked 2010-05-19 23:08:30.688 deleting timer Which isn't what I want but serves to show that it's only the delay that's causing it to not function, not something to do with the selector not being declared in the header, being misspelt or any other reason. Any ideas as to why it's not working?
