Hi folks,
When someone uses the OutputCache directive in an ASP.NET WebForms/MVC application, does it actually do any caching server-side, like using the Cache or does it only setup some properties in the Response object like the Cache-Control property?
Cheers :)
I'm developing a ASP.NET MVC app and I'm wondering which is the best way to handle an expired .NET Forms authentication cookie detected during an ajax call.
Do you think that packing the ajax response into a JsonResult containing info about the cookie validity is the best solution?
I'm using Forms authentication in ASP.NET MVC website and I store user account login name in AuthCookie like this:
FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(account.Login, false);
I want to ask if there is a possibility that user on client side will somehow manage to change his login name in AuthCookie and thus he will be for example impersonated as someone with higher privileges and authorized to do more actions than he is normally supposed to have. Also is it better to save in this cookie user account login name or user account ID number?
When I create a MVC web application in Visual Studio 2010 it offers also to create a testing project using one of framework from the list.
But I have only VS built-in testing framework in it.
Is it possible to add NUnit there?
I found a great control with example here for mvc
It fulfills all my requirement but the problem is that it uses a js tree dll.
Should I go on and used that example in my application?
Do you people refrain from using 3rd party free dll in applications?
How will I tell that it will not expire or not cause problem later on
Forgive me if this is inappropriate question but thx in advance for any appropiate reply on this topic. just trying to get the point of view of you people on this
Just installed the trial version of Visual Studio 2010 RTM.
Now I keep getting :
The name 'NoPanel' does not exist in the current context
Errors (where no panel is just about any control in the .aspx file)
also I got several errors trying to deploy pages and it would not send the .cs file over ...or pdfs in the Content directory (even though I had copy always set)...
This is happening on a pair of mixed ASP.NET MVC and Webforms sites.
In Visual Studio 2010 (RC) there is no longer a "browse with" context menu when right clicking .aspx pages. How can you change the default browser now?
By default it seems to use the operating system default browser, but I would prefer to use IE when debugging ASP.net apps. (I am testing this with ASP.net MVC 2)
Ok, so I was perusing the mono site and noticed there are Novell tools I can purchase for Visual Studio that will let me choose to compile in Mono? My confusion is, if I am using a tool set such as MVC 2 and other Frameworks, and I use those tools to compile to mono, how exactly does that play into things? I mean don't those tool sets need to be recompiled using Mono?
I have a string like this, stored in the database:
< %@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl" %
< %= Html.Encode("< strong hello< /strong ") %

After I have the initial ASP.NET MVC 2 website and the default Membership provider up, how do I start adding features specific to an user? Like, say, we want to let users choose their favorite products and we want to remember these choices somehow or add a favorite color property to an user?
Where should these customizations go and how should they be associated with the out-of-the-box membership system?
Hi,
I've seen various references to a couple of Spring MVC 2.5 example applications, named 'petclinic' and 'jpetstore'.
I can't seem to find where to download these examples. Can anyone can provide a link to download them (ideally also with instructions for setup/deploying)?
Thanks,
Don
I am using xVal in a ASP.NET MVC project. One of the forms has two buttons and i want to disable the client side validation when one of the buttons is clicked. Is there a way to conditionally disable client side validation in xVal?
Hi I'm new to MVC2 or MVC in general. I'm gone do basic app with a backend. Now I been thinking about how I should do with the folders, views, controllers & routes for the AdminFolder. Now I just saw something called Areas. Is that a way to go for me?
I've mapped 'example.com' and 'www.example.com' to the same IP address with my hosting service provider. But because my SSL certificate only works for 'www.example.com', so what I want is when the user visit 'example.com', he will be redirected to 'www.example.com'.
I'm using ASP.Net MVC and IIS 7.
Thanks
Session[Constant] vs Session["String Literal"] Performance
I'm retrieving user-specific data like ViewData["CartItems"] = Session["CartItems"]; with a string literal for keys on every request. Should I be using constants for this?
If yes, how should I go about implementing frequently used string literals and will it significantly affect performance on a high-traffic site?
Related question does not address ASP.NET MVC or Session.
I have an ASP.NET MVC site that uses both Microsoft Ajax [Ajax.BeginForm()] and jQuery to make asynchronous requests. I want to configure both frameworks such that a generic error handler is automatically attached if the developer does not explicitly specify a failure callback.
In jQuery I can accomplish this with either .ajaxSetup() or .ajaxError(). What is the equivalent in the Microsoft Ajax client library? I'm fairly sure it's something in the Sys object but I can't find it...
I am working on asp.net mvc project using views and partial views.
Multiple partial views are being rendered in single view. Now my problem is that when ever i update some values in partial view and render it again through controller it does not show partial view with updated value.... to see updated value i have to refresh the page each time.
Working on a custom model binder in ASP.NET MVC 2. Most of the time I am binding data from typical form or querystring data. There are times that I end up letting the model binder bind part of an object and get the rest out of session at the controller action level. Does it make better sense to bind the entire object from the model binder (e.g. querystring, form, and session)?
I am using EF 3.5 with MVC.
I want to made a search page, has some fields for criteria like date, int etc.
What is the way in linq to entities to filter the result dynamically.
If there are one parameter we can use
.where(a=a.id==1)
but many combination with optional param how can i load results and then pass to model.
I'm curious how this works. In MVC you can call View() and pass a model as a parameter, but RedirectToAction (one of its incarnations at least) takes a 'routeValues' object, which appears to be the closest match.
If your model is passed in this parameter will that model type be available in the subsequent action method? Or are there caveats involved that might prevent accurate translation in some circumstances?
I have some scripts which need to be included only in the release version. Stuff like google analytics, quantserve etc.
The typical way in asp.net mvc world is to wrap a
#if DEBUG
#endif
How do I do it the sparkish way. Like
<script if='x==5' type="text/javascript">
