• Which encoding (code page) is used for file names in ZIP archive under Mac OS x 10.6

  I have a zip library SharpZipLib which intended to work with ZIP archives using C#. It has parameter ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.Zip.ZipConstants.DefaultCodePage which specifies encoding of file names in zip archive. I know that in Windows and in OSX different encodings are used to store file names. 1) Which encodings (code pages) are used in both? 2) How to determine programmatically which encoding is used? When I open in Win7 zip file packed under MacOS X, I see files with bad names (originally - cyrillic) and folder called __MACOSX, so I can say zip was prepared on Mac box. Any other way? What about other UNIX like systems?

  I have a SQL statement in C# (.NET Framework 4 running against SQL Server 2k8) that looks like this: SELECT [Column1] FROM [Table1] WHERE [Column2] = @Column2 The above query works fine with the following ADO.NET code: DbParameter parm = Factory.CreateDbParameter(); parm.Value = "SomeValue"; parm.ParameterName = "@Column2"; //etc... This query returns zero rows, though, if I assign DBNull.Value to the DbParameter's Value member even if there are null values in Column2. If I change the query to accommodate the null test specifically: SELECT [Column1] FROM [Table1] WHERE [Column2] IS @Column2 I get an "Incorrect syntax near '@Column2'" exception at runtime. Is there no way that I can use null or DBNull as a parameter in the WHERE clause of a SELECT statement?

  I want to create a custom jsp tag. I want this tag to take a jsp file as a parameter, and in this jsp I want to write the whole logic of the tag. Let's say I want to pass a collection to a tag and then I would write code in jsp to iterate the collection and display it in . Why I want to do it - I really hate having out.print() in my code. Is something like this feasible? I remember doing something similar a while ago, I just forgot the details and my search doesn't seem to find relevant info - a link to a good implementation of the would be nice.

• Error using MVCContrib TestHelper

  While trying to implement the second answer to a previous question, I am receiving an error. I have implemented the methods just as the post shows, and the first three work properly. The fourth one (HomeController_Delete_Action_Handler_Should_Redirect_If_Model_Successfully_Delete) gives this error: Could not find a parameter named 'controller' in the result's Values collection. If I change the code to: actual .AssertActionRedirect() .ToAction("Index"); it works properly, but I don't like the "magic string" in there and prefer to use the lambda method that the other poster used. My controller method looks like this: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Delete(State model) { try { if( model == null ) { return View( model ); } _stateService.Delete( model ); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } catch { return View( model ); } } What am I doing wrong?

  Hello! I have a localized application, and I am wondering if it is possible to have the DisplayName for a certain model property set from a Resource. I'd like to do something like this: public class MyModel { [Required] [DisplayName(Resources.Resources.labelForName)] public string name{ get; set; } } But I can't to it, as the compiler says: "An attribute argument must be a constant expression, typeof expression or array creation expression of an attribute parameter type" :( Are there any workarounds? I am outputting labels manually, but I need these for the validator output!

• unsetting application role in classic ASP

  Hi, I'm trying to unset an application role but have been failing miserably. I was able to get the cookie value after setting (sp_setapprole) the application role. But I haven't been able to use that cookie (type varbinary / byte array) in my query to unset using sp_unsetapprole. If it was any other stored procedure it wouldn't have been a problem. I was able to use Command object and create a parameter which takes data type input of adVarBinary (204) and execute the command line.. but to the Server the query goes as below. exec sp_executesql N'sp_unsetapprole @P1 ',N'@P1 varbinary(36)',0x01000000CD11697F8F0ED3627BC1DAD25FB9CEB3A2EC5B289C658235E510CD9F29230000 Since sp_setapprole and sp_unsetapprole have to be run ad hoc, the sql server is failing to run this line. And I'm finding it hard to append varbinary cookie value to a simple query such as 'sp_unsetapprole ' & varKookie so it runs "directly" on to the server. Any kind of suggestions are welcome. • dragging components in flex

  so I am trying to drag around some images in a canvas. I am adding eventlisteners to the components and calling startDrag() and stopDrag() to pick them up and stuff: component.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, component.startDrag) The problem is that it is selecting the image at its (0,0) location and not where I initially click on it. So there's a sudden "jump" when I click on the image. It is not smooth. I noticed that startDrag() has two default parameters, one of them is lockCenter and it is default to false. Maybe do I set it equal to true somehow? (I don't know how to pass arguments to my second parameter in addeventlistener) Another question: if I want to add more conditions to it, like make a new function that uses component.startDrag(), how do I pass the component to this function while adding event listener to it at the same time? for example: I want to do: component.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, some_other_function); where some_other_function uses component.startDrag(); Thanks!

  A very standard example of the problem that I am facing is that of a custom content say blog type. Now there is a view namely "My Blog Posts". In that view i take the argument as User:uid. Now, for the link part i simply write the code below: global $user; and send $user-uid as the argument to User:Uid. This give me link for "My Blog Posts" or the blog posts of the logged-in user What I want is a view like "His Blog Posts". So, if i visit the profile of some other user. There should be a tab in his profile "Blog Posts by Me". So for that i need to have the UID of the user whose profile I am visiting. So, how can I get this parameter from URL of his profile or somevhere else.

• Passing a formula field value into a Crystal Reports command

  Hello eveybody! I have a report, in which I calculate starting date via Formula Fields. Then I need to pass calculated value into a subreport, where I can use it as one of the parameters for the stored procedure in my database. The problem is that for some reason value of the corresponding parameter when the database is queried is empty (or null, I am not sure exactly). What can be wrong in my report template? The formula I use is: ToText( ShiftDateTime ({@StartDate}, {?TimeZone}, "UTC,0")) Name of this formula field is StartDate I pass it into subreport as a Pm-?@StartDateUTC (also tried Pm-@StartDateUTC). I am sure, that @StartDate has correct value (tested in preview with this field in report), also Pm-?@StartDateUTC does has a value, but when CR is accessing DB - the result is empty field value...

• Using "CASE" in Where clause to choose various column harm the performance

  I have query which needs to be dynamic on some of the columns, meaning I get a parameter and according its value I decide which column to fetch in my Where clause. I've implemented this request using "CASE" expression: (CASE @isArrivalTime WHEN 1 THEN ArrivalTime ELSE PickedupTime END) >= DATEADD(mi, -@TZOffsetInMins, @sTime) AND (CASE @isArrivalTime WHEN 1 THEN ArrivalTime ELSE PickedupTime END) < DATEADD(mi, -@TZOffsetInMins, @fTime) If @isArrivalTime = 1 then chose ArrivalTime column else chose PickedupTime column. I have a clustered index on ArrivalTime and nonclustered index on PickedupTime. I've noticed that when I'm using this query (with @isArrivalTime = 1), my performance is a lot worse comparing to only using ArrivalTime. Maybe the query optimizer can't use\choose the index properly in this way? I compared the execution plans an noticed that when I'm using the CASE 32% of the time is being wasted on the index scan, but when I didn't use the CASE(just usedArrivalTime`) only 3% were wasted on this index scan. Anyone know the reason for this?

  It has been suggest to me that the use of IF statements in t-SQL batches is detrimental to performance. I'm trying to find some confirmation of this assertion. I'm using SQL Server 2005 and 2008. The assertion is that with the following batch:- IF @parameter = 0 BEGIN SELECT ... something END ELSE BEGIN SELECT ... something else END SQL Server cannot re-use the execution plan generated because the next execution may need a different branch. This implies that SQL Server will eliminate one branch entirely from execution plan on the basis that for the current execution it can already determine which branch is needed. Is this really true? In addition what happens in this case:- IF EXISTS (SELECT ....) BEGIN SELECT ... something END ELSE BEGIN SELECT ... something else END where it's not possible to determine in advance which branch will be executed?

  I have a class constructor that expects a reference to another class object to be passed in as an argument. I understand that references are preferable to pointers when no pointer arithmetic will be performed or when a null value will not exist. • Any way to access the type of a Scala Option declaration at runtime using reflection?

  So, I have a Scala class that looks like this: class TestClass { var value: Option[Int] = None } and I'm tackling a problem where I have a String value and I want to coerce it into that Option[Int] at runtime using reflection. To do so, I need to know that the field is an Option and that the type parameter of the Option is Int. What are my options for figuring out that the type of 'value' is Option[Int] at runtime (i.e. using reflection)? I have seen similar problems solved by annotating the field, e.g. @OptionType(Int.class). I'd prefer a solution that didn't require annotations on the reflection target if possible.

• How to model dependency injection in UML ?

  I have a Contract class. The contract is valid 1 Jan 2010 - 31 Dec 2010. It can be in state Active or Passive, depending on which date I ask the instance for it's state. ex. if I ask 4 July 2010, it's in state Active, but if I ask 1 Jan 2011, it's in state Passive. Instances are created using constructor dependency injection, i.e. they are either Active or Passive already when created, null is not allowed as a parameter for the internal state member. One initial/created vertex is drawn in UML. I have two arrows, leading out from the initial vertex, one leading to state Active and the other to state Passive. Is this a correct representation of dependency injection in UML ? This is related to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2779922/how-model-statemachine-when-state-is-dependent-on-a-function which initiated the question on how to model DI in general, in UML.

  I'm changing our webservices to an async model. And for that I have to change over a hundred methods. Doing it manually is one (unappealing) option. Is there no way to programmatically parse & change multiple functions/code files? Example: [Webmethod] public void MyWebservice (string parameter1, string parameter2, string parameter3) { //Logic here } And change this to: public void InternalMyWebservice (string parameter1, string parameter2, string parameter3, AsyncCallback callback) { //Logic here } [Webmethod] public void BeginMyWebservice (string parameter1, string parameter2, string parameter3, AsyncCallback callback, object asyncState) { //Queue InternalMyWebservice in a threadpool } public void EndMyWebservice(IAsyncResult asyncResult) { //Set return values } It's basically the same thing I have to do for each webservice. Change the name to "InternalX", add a parameter and create the begin & end method.

• Pass errors in Django using HttpResponseRedirect

  I know that HttpResponseRedirect only takes one parameter, a URL. But there are cases when I want to redirect with an error message to display. I was reading this post: How to pass information using an http redirect (in Django) and there were a lot of good suggestions. I don't really want to use a library that I don't know how works. I don't want to rely on messages which, according to the Django docs, is going to be removed. I thought about using sessions. I also like the idea of passing it in a URL, something like: return HttpResponseRedirect('/someurl/?error=1') and then having some map from error code to message. Is it good practice to have a global map-like structure which hard codes in these error messages or is there a better way? Or should I just use a session EDIT: I got it working using a session. Is that a good practice to put things like this in the session?

  I cannot figure out how to get rid of errors that basically should not be halting my compile in VS 2010 and should not be show stoppers, or at least I will fix them later but I don't want the compile to just error and halt on these kinds of problems. • CInternetSession::OpenURL exception if headers are defined. Works fine if not. Why?

  Trying to log the application version details in our weblogs using the headers: Should be a one liner..but for some reason whenever I specify anything but NULL for the headers it causes an exception (InternetOpenUrl() call returns NULL) - anyone able to explain why?   Is it possible to configure Hibernate reverse engineering and code generation tool in such a way that one-to-many relation between tables is mapped to entities inheritance instead of enrites relation? I have Person table and Employee table, which are related with the foreign key (Person contains basic information, Employee the rest). In my Java code I would like this relation mapped to inheritance Employee extends Person. This can be done by hand, but maybe I missed some custom configuration parameter that I can use. I couldn't find any official documentation - docs link on RedHat Hibernate page (http://www.hibernate.org/5.html#A10) is broken...

  I have a class in C# with a template and static method similar to class BClass<T> { public static BClass<T> Create() { return new BClass<T>(); } } From this I derive a class and specify a template parameter to the base class class DClass : BClass<int> { } A problem occurs when I try to use the static method to create an instance of D class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { DClass d = DClass.Create(); } } Gives a compiler error "Cannot implicitly convert type 'Test.BClass<int ' to 'Test.DClass'." Adding the below cast leads to a runtime casting exception. DClass d = (DClass)DClass.Create(); Is there any succint way to allow the static method to create instances of the derived class?   I'm implementing a multi-tenant ASP.NET MVC application and using StructureMap for DI where my repositories depend on an ITenantContext interface, which depends on RouteData (or a base controller property). How do I tell StructureMap to construct TenantContext(tenantID); where tenantID is derived from my RouteData or some base controller property? Given the following route: {tenant}/{controller}/{action} My base controller retrieves and stores the correct Tenant based on the {tenant} URL parameter. Using Tenant, a repository with an ITenantContext can be constructed to retrieve only data that is relevant to that tenant. Based on the other DI questions, AbstractFactory could be a solution?solution?

• Month to Date in SQL Server 2008

  Hopefully this will be an easy one to answer. I am working on a table that requires MTD data. One of our SQL guys told me to use MONTH (@monthtodate)= 11 Where @monthtodate is set to GetDate() in the parameter list in SQL Server Management Studio. So in "theory", he says, it should select the month (11) and then get today and return all the requested data in between those two dates. But I'm thinking this isn't correct. In looking at my data I'm starting to think that It's just returning data for the whole month of November instead of just MTD. I guess, technically, anything that has 0 won't be calculated. However that just means it's poorly written code correct? In your opinions, would this be the better way to return MTD data: production_date <= @today and Production_Date >= DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(mm, 0, @today), 0) Thanks in advance everyone!
