  • Wink and Grow Rich Online, a SEO Perspective

There are thousands of online businesses making money, and even fewer online businesses creating wealth. The "difference" could be the reason why wealth seems to elude you no matter how hard you are working on making money. The irony is that if you are running after money, you may make some, and lose some. However, if you are focused on creating wealth, you will find that money will find its way to you, and what you build will keep growing in "value" with each passing day.

  • How productive do you think/know you are?

    - by leinad
I'm a good programmer, and I know it. Yet, I often find myself thinking that I actually work very slowly. I worked on a feature from Monday to Wednesday this week. On the way home on Wednesday I was wondering what had taken so long. It seemed like I should have been done in a single day but I wasted three to finish it up. This is not the first time I had this feeling. Do you ever feel this or the opposite?

  • A PASS Summit Blogger No More?

    - by andyleonard
… unless there is a public apology. The day began with disappointment as PASS bloggers were warned to remain silent or “there won’t be a bloggers table next year.” This was in response to last year’s tweets and posts from the bloggers table that PASS and their sponsors found disagreeable. I disagreed with some of the opinions of my fellow bloggers last year and their communication style differs from mine. But I respect their right to express their opinions in their communication style. PASS seems...(read more)

  • Generic Handler vs Direct Reference

    - by JNF
In a project where I'm working on the data access layer I'm trying to make a decision how to send data and objects to the next layer (and programmer). Is it better to tell him to reference my dll, OR should I build a generic handler and let him take the objects from there (i.e. json format) If I understand correctly, In case of 2. he would have to handle the objects on his own, whereas in case 1. he will have the entities I've built. Note: It is very probable that other people would need to take the same data, though, we're not up to that yet. Same question here - should I make it into a webservice, or have them access the handler?

  • Why does GtkCalendar counts months from 0?

    - by int_ua
So I spent several hours in rage, figuring out why isn't my code writing to the /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm correctly. The problem is that it doesn't return anything if the value is wrong. And finally I noticed this small 5 between the year and the day. Why isn't it counting days and years from zero for consistency? For comparison: QCalendarWidget counts month from 1 to 12 (docs) So GtkCalendar... F**k You!

  • Why don't we store the syntax tree instead of the source code?

    - by Calmarius
We have a lot of programming languages. Every language is parsed and syntax checked before translated into code so an abstract syntax tree is built. We have this abstract syntax tree, why don't we store this syntax tree instead of the source code (or next to the source code)? By using an AST instead of the source code. Every programmer in a team can serialize this tree to any language, they want (with the appropriate context free grammar) and parse back to AST when they finished. So this would eliminate the debate about the coding style questions (where to put the { and }, where to put whitespace, indentation, etc.) What are the pros and cons of this approach?
