• Using ROWLOCK in an INSERT statement (MS SQL)

  Would it be wise to use ROWLOCK on an insert statement that is copying large amounts of data and inserting it into the same table? Ex) INSERT INTO TABLE with (rowlock) (id, name) select newid, name) from TABLE with (nolock) where id = 1 Does anybody have recommendations on how to improve this statement, as I see when MS SQL gets busy it will end in Timeout Query returned for MS SQL.

  Environment: JBoss 5.1.0, JBoss Seam 2.2.0 While trying to get my application running in a clustered environment after login I am getting the following exception.   Hi. I’m working on DARPA 1998 intrusion detection dataset. When I run snort on this dataset (outside.tcpdump file), snort don’t generate complete list of alerts. It means snort start from last few hours of tcpdump file and generate alerts about this section of file and all of packets in first hours are ignored. Another problem in generatin alert is in time stamp of generated alerts. This means when I run snort on a specific day of dataset, snort insert incorrect time stamp for that alert. I know I can do this to blank it: <forms xmu:key="loginUrl" loginUrl="/redirecttosignin.aspx" name="" /> But, I literally want to get the name attribute out, and leave the other attributes in tact. Couldn't find any examples of that. Thanks!

  The documentation around this topic is poor. I use WCF services with NetTcpBinding hosted in Windows service. The problem is that a session is dropped when it is inactive for some time. What I need is the session which is always alive. Is WCF reliable session something that can help? Or I can just play with timeout settings?

• ERROR_SEM_TIMEOUT when using WinUSB WritePipe

  I often get ERROR_SEM_TIMEOUT errors using the WinUSB WritePipe function. This would seem to indicate that there is a timeout, but if I wait a period of time and try again I'm never able to write. I'm writing in 64 byte chucks to the USB device and often don't have problems. Once I start getting the error, I may have to unplug the usb and and close my app before trying again. Has anybody experienced this problem?

• CherryPy sessions for same domain, different port

  Consider the script below. It will launch two subprocesses, each one a CherryPy app (hit Ctrl+C or whatever the KeyboardInterrupt combo is on your system to end them both). If you run it with CP 3.0 (taking care to change the 3.0/3.1 specific lines in "StartServer"), then visit: http://localhost:15002/ ...you see an empty dict. Then visit: http://localhost:15002/set?val=10 http://localhost:15002/ ...and you see the newly populated dict. Then visit: http://localhost:15012/ ...and go back to http://localhost:15002/ ...and nothing has changed. If you try the same thing with CP 3.1 (remember the lines in "StartServer"!), when you get to the last step, the dict is now empty. This happens in Windows and Debian, Python 2.5 and 2.6. You can try all sorts of things: changing to file storage, separating the storage paths... the only difference it makes is that the sessions might get merged instead of erased. I've read another post about this as well, and there's a suggestion there to put the session tools config keys in the app config rather than the global config, but I don't think that's relevant to this usage where the apps run independently. What do I do to get independent CherryPy applications to NOT interfere with each other? Note: I originally asked this on the CherryPy mailing list but haven't had a response yet so I'm trying here. • CCNet web dashboard not showing anything when MSBuild fails

  I have a simple project in ccnet using svn & msbuild only. There is a 30 second trigger for svn and the msbuild file compiles a web application then copies it to a numbered build folder. When an error occurs in the msbuild task I get a failed build. When I view a failed build in the web dashboard I can see the 'Modifications since last build' section in the dashboard, but nothing else. I have to click on the build log and read through all of the xml in the error log to see what the error was. Why won't the dashboard show the errors from the build log? I haven't changed anything in the dashboard.config since installing ccnet. Currently my workflow is to start a Firefox instance with the specified URL and take a screenshot using PrintWindow in the Win32 API When I run this application in IISExpress it works fine but when I run the same application in IIS on a windows VPS it is not working (screenshot is blank). I don't know what I'm doing wrong? • Why am I losing sessions when running in StateServer mode?

  I have checked the servers (Win Server 2003) application event logs for the following problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308097 which doesn't show up. It just appears that sessions drop randomly for random users It's a single server setup, no web farms and no load balancing Even though the issue I point to above doesn't occur in the logs, is it worth increasing the stateNetworkTimeout attribute anyway? The configuration at the moment is simply <sessionState mode="StateServer" cookieless="false" stateConnectionString="tcpip=localhost:42424" timeout="60"/>

It worked perfectly fine on the test machine up until the last round of changes that I made. I changed these instances to directly call the connection string from App.config without using GetConnectionString. However, when I went back to using the conString variable on each form, I had no issues. What I don't understand is why all three methods work fine on my development machine, while using the App.config directly or via the static string I created throw exceptions.

• SSL site in IIS7 doesn't load (times out)... everything seems correct (ports open, cert installed)

  I have a site in IIS where I have SSL set up. The certificate is installed correctly. It is listening on port 443, the port is open. Doing openssl s_client -connect host:port Get's a timeout... This is really driving me crazy as I have no idea what is wrong. The server is on EC2, if that makes a difference. Anyone know what could possibly be wrong?
