• Eclipse - Force Refresh of IDs

- by Echilon
I'm using eclipse for Android development, and the editor always seems to take a while to actually update and recognize if I change an ID in a layout, then try to use it in a class with R.id.someId. Is there a way to force a refresh?

• Restore previously serialized JFrame-object, how?

- by elementz
Hi all. I have managed to serialize my very basic GUI-object containing a JTextArea and a few buttons to a file 'test.ser'. Now, I would like to completely restore the previously saved state from 'test.ser', but seem to have a misconception of how to properly deserialize an objects state. The class MyFrame creates the JFrame and serializes it. public class MyFrame extends JFrame implements ActionListener { // Fields JTextArea textArea; String title; static MyFrame gui = new MyFrame(); private static final long serialVersionUID = 1125762532137824262L; /** * @param args */ public static void main(String[] args) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub gui.run(); } // parameterless default contructor public MyFrame() { } // constructor with title public MyFrame(String title) { } // creates Frame and its Layout public void run() { JFrame frame = new JFrame(title); JPanel panel_01 = new JPanel(); JPanel panel_02 = new JPanel(); JTextArea textArea = new JTextArea(20, 22); textArea.setLineWrap(true); JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(textArea); scrollPane.setVerticalScrollBarPolicy(ScrollPaneConstants.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED); panel_01.add(scrollPane); // Buttons JButton saveButton = new JButton("Save"); saveButton.addActionListener(this); JButton loadButton = new JButton("Load"); loadButton.addActionListener(this); panel_02.add(loadButton); panel_02.add(saveButton); // Layout frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.getContentPane().add(BorderLayout.CENTER, panel_01); frame.getContentPane().add(BorderLayout.SOUTH, panel_02); frame.setSize(300, 400); frame.setVisible(true); } /* * */ public void serialize() { try { ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(new FileOutputStream("test.ser")); oos.writeObject(gui); oos.close(); } catch (Exception e) { // TODO: handle exception e.printStackTrace(); } } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ev) { System.out.println("Action received!"); gui.serialize(); } } Here I try to do the deserialization: public class Deserialize { static Deserialize ds; static MyFrame frame; public static void main(String[] args) { try { ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(new FileInputStream("test.ser")); frame = (MyFrame) ois.readObject(); ois.close(); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (ClassNotFoundException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } } Maybe somebody could point me into the direction where my misconception is? Thx in advance!

• Proper HTML technique to create an web form out of an image

- by Lars
I plan to create an interactive golf score card for my website (XHTML). (Btw. thats how such a scorecard looks like: ScoreCard). So at the end one should be able to insert a score for each hole in the appropriated input field in the virtual scorecard on the website. For me it is very important that the interactive scorecard really looks the same as the original (paper-) scorecard does and so my first approach was to scan and slice the scorecard image to reach that appearance. Here you can see the way I sliced the image: The idea was to insert HTML text input for each score field ending up with something like this: After I sliced the image I reconstructed it using the HTML . To do that I put the image slices as the cell background.

<td style="background: url("slice1.jpg") width="58px" height="25px"> </inputText>

...
At the first moment this worked fine (as Gimp offers quite a nice feature for this). Then the problem was that I had to create a HTML table to create the exact layout. As you can see the lower part of the layout is split up into 3 columns. The middle column is split up into several (for each hole) rows. So the left and right column have to be spanned over those rows. Ok finally that worked, but it lead to some kind of scaling problem. If I zoom in or out on the table the middle column (and only that one) is not scaled the right way. Iam not able to fix this, and so I start doubting if this is the right technique for html image virtualization. Iam really no specialist in the area of creating websites, so I would really appriciate any help on this. Maybe there is a complete other and better technique to do that, as I think it is a common job in webcreation. I couldnt find any nice examples or tuts on that.

• How to listen for AffectsParentArrange events when you're not the parent

- by Jeff B
There is an attribute "AffectsParentArrange" that implicitly invalidates the parent's layout - but I want to attach an event handler to the "event" triggered by that attribute. When a child property with the attribute changes, the parent's arrangement is invalidated. I have a custom control (which is not the immediate parent) that needs to receive an event. Does anyone know of an event that can be used here? Do I need to provide a custom parent that overrides a method and fires an event?

• Reset View in Visual Studio 2008?

- by Donut
For some reason, the layout and sizes of various panels in my copy of Visual Studio 2008 has gone all wonky -- for example, the Error and Output windows appear in the same tab group as my code, and their position doesn't persist if I attempt to manually move them where I want them to go. Is there some sort of way to reset all panels to their default state?

• How to make html image clickable inside a TextView

- by Gonan
I have the following text in a string in the resources file: <img src="mail_big" /> It shows the image fine (I implemented ImageGetter) but it is not clickable. I have tried adding the Linkify thingy but I don't think it's meant for this case, and so it doesn't work. The setMovementMethod doesn't work either. I have tried different combinations of the above: <img src="mail_big" />hello Here, even the "hello" part is not clickable (neither blue nor underlined). This doesn't even show the image. <a href="mailto:[email protected]"><img src="mail_big" /></a> If I just write the email, without the tag it works perfectly, but I would like to use the image of an envelope that the user can click on. It's not possible to use an imagebutton because this text is in the middle of a string and so I can't split it. Any ideas? Thanks! EDIT: I found a solution or rather found how to do it correctly. All I had to do was adding the setMovementMethod call before the call to setText in the TextView and ALSO, and COMPLETELY NECESSARY, remove the attribute "android:autoLink="all" from the layout. Apparently, parsing mails and urls in a string is mutually exclusive to interpreting the link tags in a string. So one or the other but not both. Finally my layout is just a TextView with nothing special, just width and height. The activity is like this: TextView tv = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.about_text); tv.setMovementMethod(LinkMovementMethod.getInstance()); tv.setText(Html.fromHtml(getString(R.string.about_content), new ImageGetter(), null)); And the string is like this: <string name="about_content"></string>

• Polishing an user interface

- by elec
Looking for examples of some "final touches" to enhance an existing (raw) user interface. I.e nothing related to the core functionalities of the application, but rather examples of all these little details which give an application a "polished" look (new fonts, change in layout, more descriptive labels...others ?) The target platform will be a mobile platform (android/iphone). Note that I'm severly graphically impaired regarding colour and shape combinations, so anything too sophisticated will probably pass me by completely ;)

• how to update an Android ListActivity on changing data of the connected SimpleCursorAdapter

- by 4485670
I have the following code. What I want to achieve is to update the shown list when I click an entry so I can traverse through the list. I found the two uncommented ways to do it here on stackoverflow, but neither works. I also got the advice to create a new ListActivity on the data update, but that sounds like wasting resources? EDIT: I found the solution myself. All you need to do is call "SimpleCursorAdapter.changeCursor(new Cursor);". No notifying, no things in UI-Thread or whatever. import android.app.ListActivity; import android.database.Cursor; import android.os.Bundle; import android.util.Log; import android.view.View; import android.widget.ListView; import android.widget.SimpleCursorAdapter; public class MyActivity extends ListActivity { private DepartmentDbAdapter mDbHelper; private Cursor cursor; private String[] from = new String[] { DepartmentDbAdapter.KEY_NAME }; private int[] to = new int[] { R.id.text1 }; private SimpleCursorAdapter notes; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.departments_list); mDbHelper = new DepartmentDbAdapter(this); mDbHelper.open(); // Get all of the departments from the database and create the item list cursor = mDbHelper.fetchSubItemByParentId(1); this.startManagingCursor(cursor); // Now create an array adapter and set it to display using our row notes = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.department_row, cursor, from, to); this.setListAdapter(notes); } @Override protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) { super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id); // get new data and update the list this.updateData(safeLongToInt(id)); } /** * update data for the list * * @param int departmentId id of the parent department */ private void updateData(int departmentId) { // close the old one, get a new one cursor.close(); cursor = mDbHelper.fetchSubItemByParentId(departmentId); // change the cursor of the adapter to the new one notes.changeCursor(cursor); } /** * safely convert long to in to save memory * * @param long l the long variable * * @return integer */ public static int safeLongToInt(long l) { if (l < Integer.MIN_VALUE || l > Integer.MAX_VALUE) { throw new IllegalArgumentException (l + " cannot be cast to int without changing its value."); } return (int) l; } }

• What tool for printing Invoices and similar documents in Java Swing?

- by Jonas
I'm looking for a good tool for printing Invoices, Receipts and similar documents in Java Swing. I have tried JasperReports but it is pretty hard to get a dynamic layout and it is designing for reports. A requirement that I have is that the document should be sent directly to the printer and must not be saved to a file. So some tools that first creates an Office Document or a PDF document isn't a solution for me. Any recommendations?

• Problem setting row backgrounds in Android Listview

- by zchtodd
I have an application in which I'd like one row at a time to have a certain color. This seems to work about 95% of the time, but sometimes instead of having just one row with this color, it will allow multiple rows to have the color. Specifically, a row is set to have the "special" color when it is tapped. In rare instances, the last row tapped will retain the color despite a call to setBackgroundColor attempting to make it otherwise. private OnItemClickListener mDirectoryListener = new OnItemClickListener(){ public void onItemClick(AdapterView parent, View view, int pos, long id){ if (stdir.getStationCount() == pos) { stdir.moreStations(); return; } if (playingView != null) playingView.setBackgroundColor(Color.DKGRAY); view.setBackgroundColor(Color.MAGENTA); playingView = view; playStation(pos); } }; I have confirmed with print statements that the code setting the row to gray is always called. Can anyone imagine a reason why this code might intermittently fail? If there is a pattern or condition that causes it, I can't tell. I thought it might have something to do with the activity lifecycle setting the "playingView" variable back to null, but I can't reliably reproduce the problem by switching activities or locking the phone. private class DirectoryAdapter extends ArrayAdapter { private ArrayList<Station> items; public DirectoryAdapter(Context c, int resLayoutId, ArrayList<Station> stations){ super(c, resLayoutId, stations); this.items = stations; } public int getCount(){ return items.size() + 1; } public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent){ View v = convertView; LayoutInflater vi = (LayoutInflater)getContext().getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); if (position == this.items.size()) { v = vi.inflate(R.layout.morerow, null); return v; } Station station = this.items.get(position); v = vi.inflate(R.layout.songrow, null); if (station.playing) v.setBackgroundColor(Color.MAGENTA); else if (station.visited) v.setBackgroundColor(Color.DKGRAY); else v.setBackgroundColor(Color.BLACK); TextView title = (TextView)v.findViewById(R.id.title); title.setText(station.name); return v; } };

• jquery fade element does not show elements styled 'visibility: hidden'

- by kalpaitch
I have a bunch of thumbnails which I am loading with a style of visibility: hidden; so that they all maintain their correct layouts. Once the page is fully loaded I have a jquery function that fades them in. This worked when their style was set to display: none; but obviously the layout screwed up then. Any suggestions? Heres the fade line: $('.littleme').fadeIn('slow');

• Default js included in Rails

- by hizki
When creating a new Rails application, it is automatically supplied with several quite large js files. In the application layout, by default, all of them are loaded into the page: <%= javascript_include_tag :defaults %> I was wondering, isn't loading all those javascripts can make the site possibly mush slower? And if so, where can I change the definition of :defaults? Or should I just include the ones I need and remove the code line mentioned above? Thank you

• disable horizontal scrolling by finger swipe

- by codelove
This may just be a mac issue, but I have a page with an element which is twice the size of the page and is moved into view dynamically. in my css I have overflow-x:hidden set so that this element won't create an ugly bottom scollbar, the problem is on my laptop (and probably on ipads and other devices) I can just swipe with two fingers to scroll and view this content. This breaks the whole layout and looks really bad, and I am looking for a way to completely disable this horizontal scrolling action with javascript or css. Thank you

• Adding Items to an Inner (Nested) ListView

- by Corey O.
I have 2 asp:ListView controls, one embedded in the other (OuterListView and InnerListView respectively). I am trying to add an asp:linkbutton in the InnerListView layout that will allow the user to add an item to the InnerListView. Unfortunately, when I handle the OnClick event in the linkbutton control, I can't figure out how to get a handle on the asp:linkbutton's parent ListView from within the codebehind handler. Obviously, there is no global handle since there are multiple inner listviews. I can link code if necessary.

• Android: onListItemClick not getting called in ListActivity

- by user521469
I'm having problems with my first Android app. I have subclassed ListActivity, and I'm having no luck getting the overridden onListItemClick() to respond to click events. I've read focus can be a problem, but changing focus in the XML files does not seem to work. Here's the relevant bits of code. Anyone see what's I've buggered up? public class Notepadv1 extends ListActivity { private int mNoteNumber = 1; private NotesDbAdapter mDbHelper; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.notepad_list); mDbHelper = new NotesDbAdapter(this); mDbHelper.open(); fillData(); } private void fillData() { // Get all of the notes from the database and create the item list Cursor c = mDbHelper.fetchAllNotes(); startManagingCursor(c); String[] from = new String[] { NotesDbAdapter.KEY_TITLE }; int[] to = new int[] { R.id.text1 }; SimpleCursorAdapter notes = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.notes_row, c, from, to); setListAdapter(notes); } @Override public void onListItemClick (ListView l, View v, int position, long id){ super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id); AlertDialog alert = new AlertDialog.Builder(this).create(); String message = "row clicked!"; alert.setMessage(message); alert.show(); } notepad_list.xml <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <ListView android:id="@android:id/list" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:dividerHeight="6dp"/> <TextView android:id="@android:id/empty" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/no_notes" /> </LinearLayout> And notes_row.xml <TextView android:id="@+id/text1" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="60dp" android:focusable="false"/>

• How to use jaxb_commons plugins from maven

- by user243155
I'm trying to use a jaxb plugin to insert a interface into a choice element generating the classes from maven. The problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to do so from maven, the repository isn't clear from the documentation and the only example (bellow) doesn't work, it seems to ignore the plugin (maven reports no error about not finding it) or the plugin doesn't have all the adds-ons currently listed in the project documentation: <plugin> <groupId>org.jvnet.jaxb2.maven2</groupId> <artifactId>maven-jaxb2-plugin</artifactId> <version>0.6.1</version> <executions> <execution> <goals> <goal>generate</goal> </goals> </execution> </executions> <configuration> <generatePackage>br.com.wonder.nfe.xml</generatePackage> <args> <arg>-Xifins</arg> </args> <plugins> <plugin> <groupId>org.jvnet.jaxb2_commons</groupId> <artifactId>basic</artifactId> <version>0.4.1.5</version> </plugin> </plugins> </configuration> </plugin> I have these in the root pom: <pluginRepositories> <pluginRepository>

</pluginRepository> <pluginRepository>

<layout>legacy</layout> </pluginRepository> </pluginRepositories> Running that gives: Error while setting CmdLine options '[-Xifins, -episode, /home/administrador/JavaApp/wnfe3/wnfe-ejb/target/generated-sources/xjc/META-INF/sun-jaxb.episode]'! • Android Google Analytics

- by ibenot
I'm trying to use Google Analytics in my Android application with Google Configuration Add .jar in my project Insert this in AndroidManifest Add this in my java file public class MainActivity extends Activity { GoogleAnalyticsTracker tracker; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); tracker = GoogleAnalyticsTracker.getInstance(); tracker.startNewSession("My-UA–XXXXXXXX", this); setContentView(R.layout.main); Button createEventButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.NewEventButton); createEventButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { tracker.trackEvent( "Clicks", // Category "Button", // Action "clicked", // Label 77); // Value } }); setContentView(R.layout.main); Button createPageButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.NewPageButton); createPageButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { // Add a Custom Variable to this pageview, with name of "Medium" and value "MobileApp" and // scope of session-level. tracker.setCustomVar(1, "Navigation Type", "Button click", 2); // Track a page view. This is probably the best way to track which parts of your application // are being used. // E.g. // tracker.trackPageView("/help"); to track someone looking at the help screen. // tracker.trackPageView("/level2"); to track someone reaching level 2 in a game. // tracker.trackPageView("/uploadScreen"); to track someone using an upload screen. tracker.trackPageView("/testApplicationHomeScreen"); } }); Button quitButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.QuitButton); quitButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { finish(); } }); Button dispatchButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.DispatchButton); dispatchButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { // Manually start a dispatch, not needed if the tracker was started with a dispatch // interval. tracker.dispatch(); } }); } @Override protected void onDestroy() { super.onDestroy(); // Stop the tracker when it is no longer needed. tracker.stopSession(); } } == And it's ok, no error, compiling and executing but i have created my ua account yesterday (more 24h) and i have nothing in my google analytics panel. My Question : is there an error in my code or i want to wait again ? Live trafic works for Android application (like tradicional website) ??? I have no information about Live trafic (when i play my app, i would like to show the number of person using my application) and Saved trafic (with viewed pages, time) Thank you for your replies and excuse my poor english :) bye
