    I am very new to Ubuntu, struggling to find the proper command to install Zend Server on my Ubuntu 9.10 Server. After downloading the ZF Server and extracting it, I try to run this command: install_zs.sh 5.3 This is the ls of the extracted ZF archive: install_zs.sh README upgrade_zs_php.sh zend.deb.repo zend.rpm.repo But it says command not found. Any idea?

  • How can I use '{}' to redirect the output of a command run through find's -exec option?

    I am trying to automate an svnadmin dump command for a backup script, and I want to do something like this: find /var/svn/* \( ! -name dir -prune \) -type d -exec svnadmin dump {} > {}.svn \; This seems to work, in that it looks through each svn repository in /var/svn, and runs svnadmin dump on it. However, the second {} in the exec command doesn't get substituted for the name of the directory being processed. It basically just results a single file named {}.svn. I suspect that this is because the shell interprets > to end the find command, and it tries redirecting stdout from that command to the file named {}.svn. Any ideas?

  • Started an application through SSH, command line now gone, what happens next?

    Context: This is a very basic question Using Putty and SSH for the first time to do some serious server setup and run into the situation where I have started a process that I do not want to stop. The process is the gunicorn WSGI HTTP Server (running on Centos 6.3). The command I used to start the process is (as per their Quick Start): gunicorn -w 4 myapp:app At this point in the work session, I have lost the command prompt. This must be such a non-issue that it doesn't even enter into an experienced user's consciousness. But unfortunately at my level of experience, I am left with several fundamental questions: Does the fact that I have lost the command prompt mean that the process is still running? How do I get back to the command prompt without killing the process? How do I come back and monitor the process later? How do I eventually kill the process? Any help is appreciated, thanks so much!

  • What is the cause of a vertical white line on an LCD monitor?

    This just happened yesterday when I was browsing the internet. My AOC N941Sw monitor is suddenly showing a thin horizontal white line near the center of the screen. The white line distorts the images. I tried checking the cables for loose connection and dust particles but the white line is still here. There are times the entire image below the horizontal white line flickers and move up and down. When this happens, I just turn off the monitor then the flicker goes away but the white horizontal line is still there. After a few minutes, the same thing happen all over again. Is there a way to fix this?

  • How would I batch rename a lot of files using command-line?

    I have a problem which I am unable to solve: I need to rename a great dump of files using patterns. I tried using this, but I always get an error. I have a folder, inside with a lot of files. Running ls -1 | wc -l, it returns that I have like 160000 files inside. The problem is, that I wish to move these files to a Windows system, but most of them have characters like : and ? in them, which makes the file unaccessible on said Windows-based systems. (As a "do not solve but deal with" method, I tried booting up a LiveCD on the Windows system and moving the files using the live OS. Under that Ubuntu, the files were readable and writable on the mounted NTFS partition, but when I booted back on Windows, it showed that the file is there but Windows was unable to access it in any fashion: rename, delete or open.) I tried running rename 's/\:/_' * inside the folder, but I got Argument list too long error. Some search revealed that it happens because I have so many files, and then I arrived here. The problem is that I don't know how to alter the command to suit my needs, as I always end up having various errors like Trying find -name '*:*' | xargs rename : _, it gives xargs: unmatched single quote; by default quotes are special to xargs unless you use the -0 option [\n] syntax error at (eval 1) line 1, near ":" [\n] xargs: rename: exited with status 255; aborting Adding the -0 after xargs turns the error message to xargs: argument line too long These files are archive files generated by various PHP scripts. The best solution would be having a chance to rename them before they are moved to Windows, but if there is no way to do it, we might have a way to rename the files while they are moved to Windows. I use samba and proftpd to move the files. Unfortunately, graphical software are out of the question as the server containing the files is what it is, a server, with only command-line interface.

    I'd like to have a macro in Visual Studio 2005 that calls a DOS command and redirects the output (stdout and stderr) to a file. Just calling the command and "" redirecting it will not capture stderr, so there are two parts to this: calling a DOS command capturing both stderr and stdout to a file during that call I'd then like to open this file in Visual Studio after the command completes. I'm new to Visual Studio 2005 macro writing, and VB/VBA, so that's the kind of help that I'm looking for. Thanks, Mark

    I think my HDD is fried... Could someone confirm or help me restore it? I was using Hardware RAID 1 Configuration [2 x 160GB SATA HDD] on a CentOS 4 Installation. All of a sudden I started seeing bad sectors on the second HDD which stopped being mirrored.     I have a problem getting Mercurial to recognise my editor. I have a file, c:\windows\notepad.exe and typing "notepad" at the command prompt works. I can commit by using the "-m" argument to supply the commit title. But a simple "hg commit" brings up the error. Which I enjoy, since I like the idea of going into a day knowing that I am  going to learn something new. The issue that I am currently working on centers around relay commands. I have a pretty good handle on Relay Commands and how we use them within our applications. <Button Command="{Binding ButtonCommand}" CommandParameter="NewRecruit" Content="New Recruit" /> Here in our xaml we have a button. The button has a Command and a CommandParameter. The command binds to the ButtonCommand that we have in our ViewModel RelayCommand _buttonCommand;         /// <summary>         /// Gets the button command.         /// </summary>         /// <value>The button command.</value>         public RelayCommand ButtonCommand         {             get             {                 if (_buttonCommand == null)                 {                     _buttonCommand = new RelayCommand(                         x => x != null && x.ToString().Length > 0 && CheckCommandAvailable(x.ToString()),                         x => ExecuteCommand(x.ToString()));                 }                 return _buttonCommand;             }         }   In our relay command we then do some checks with a lambda expression. We check if the command  parameter is null, is the length greater than 0 and we have a CheckCommandAvailable method that will tell  us if the button is even enabled. After we check on these three items we then pass the command parameter to an action method. This is all pretty straight forward, the issue that we solved a few days ago centered around having a control that needed to use a Relay Command and this control was a nested control and was using a different DataContext. The example below illustrates how we handled this scenario. We set the name of this control to “StatusView”. In our button control we set our command parameters and commands different than the example above. <HyperlinkButton Content="{Binding BigBoardButtonText, Mode=TwoWay}" CommandParameter="{Binding 'Position.PositionName'}" Command="{Binding ElementName=StatusView, Path=DataContext.BigBoardCommand, Mode=TwoWay}" /> This hyperlink button lives in a ListBox control and this listbox has an ItemSource of PositionSelectors. The Command Parameter is binding to the Position.Position property of that PositionSelectors object. This again is pretty straight forward again. What gets a bit tricky is the Command property in the hyperlink. It is binding to the element name we created in the user control (StatusView) Because this hyperlink is in a listbox and is in the item template it doesn’t have a direct handle on the DataContext that the RadTileViewItem has so we have to make sure it does. We do that by binding to the element name of status view then set the path to DataContext.BigBoardCommand. What we are working on now is a bit trickier than this second example. In the above example we are only creating this TileViewItem with this name “StatusView” once. In another part of our application we are generating multiple TileViewItems, so we cannot set the name in the control as we cant have multiple controls with the same name. When we run the application we get an error that reads that the value is out of expected range. My searching has led me to think we cannot have multiple controls with the same name. This is today’s problem and Ill post the solution to this once it is found.

    I've seen this sort of pattern in code before: //pseudo C# code var exInfo = null; //Line A try { var p = SomeProperty; //Line B exInfo = new ExceptionMessage("The property was " + p); //Line C } catch(Exception ex) { exInfo.SomeOtherProperty = SomeOtherValue; //Line D } Usually the code is structured in this fashion because exInfo has to be visible outside of the try clause. The problem is that if an exception occurs on Line B, then exInfo will be null at Line D. The issue arises when something happens on Line B that must occur before exInfo is constructed. But if I set exInfo to a new Object at line A then memory may get leaked at Line C (due to "new"-ing the object there). Is there a better pattern for handling this sort of code? Is there a name for this sort of initialization pattern? By the way I know I could check for exInfo == null before line D but that seems a bit clumsy and I'm looking for a better approach.

  • How to move a line of sprites in a sine wave?

    So, I'm spawning a horizontal line of enemies that I would like to have move in a nice wave. Currently I tried: Enemy.position.X += Enemy.velocity.X; Enemy.position.Y += -(float)Math.Cos(Enemy.position.X / 200) * 5; This...kind of works. But the wave is not a true wave. The top and bottom of one pass are not the same (e.g. 5 for the top, and -5 for the bottom (I don't mean literal points, I just meant that it's not symmetrical)). Is there a better way to do this? I would like the whole line to move in a wave, so it looks fluid. By that, I mean that it should look like each enemy is "following" the one in front of it. The code I posted does have this fluidity to it, but like I said, it's not a perfect wave. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • Parallelize incremental processing in Tabular #ssas #tabular

    I recently came in a problem trying to improve the parallelism of Tabular processing. As you know, multiple tables can be processed in parallel, whereas the processing of several partitions within the same table cannot be parallelized. When you perform an incremental update by adding only new rows to existing table, what you really do is adding rows to a partition, so adding rows to many tables means adding rows to several partitions. The particular condition you have in this case is that every partition in which you add rows belongs to a different table. Adding rows implies using the ProcessAdd command; its QueryBinding parameter specifies a SQL syntax to read new rows, otherwise the original query specified for the partition will be used, and it could generate duplicated data if you don’t have a dynamic behavior on the SQL side. If you create the required XMLA code manually, you will find that the QueryBinding node that should be part of the ProcessAdd command has to be moved out from ProcessAdd in case you are using a Batch command with more than one Process command (which is the reason why you want to use a single batch: run multiple process operations in parallel!). If you use AMO (Analysis Management Objects) you will find that this combination is not supported, even if you don’t have a syntax error compiling the code, but you might obtain this error at execution time: The syntax for the 'Process' command is incorrect. The 'Bindings' keyword cannot appear under a 'Process' command if the 'Process' command is a part of a 'Batch' command and there are more than one 'Process' commands in the 'Batch' or the 'Batch' command contains any out of line related information. In this case, the 'Bindings' keyword should be a part of the 'Batch' command only. If this is happening to you, the best solution I’ve found is manipulating the XMLA code generated by AMO moving the Binding nodes in the right place. A more detailed description of the issue and the code required to send a correct XMLA batch to Analysis Services is available in my article Parallelize ProcessAdd with AMO. By the way, the same technique (and code) can be used also if you have the same problem in a Multidimensional model.

Angry Birds employs the notion that a previous shot is shown with a dotted line "arch" showing the player where that last shot went. I think recording that data is simple enough once a shot is fired, but in my game, I want to show it preemptively, ie: before the shot. How would I go about calculating this dotted line? The other caveat is I have wind in my game. How can you determine a projectile preemptively when wind will affect it too? This seems like a pretty tough problem. My wind right now just applies a constant force every step of animation in the direction of the wind flow. I'm using Box2D and AndEngine if it matters.
