    When consulting bash's man page, it read this sentence about bash history: The second and subsequent lines of a multi-line compound command are not tested, and are added to the history regardless of the value of HISTCONTROL. But I have tried this: $ HISTCONTROL=ignorespace $ if [ -f /var/log/messages ] > then > echo "/var/log/message exists." > fi $ history | tail -2 18 HISTCONTROL=ignorespace 19 history | tail -2 Note that the if is leaded by a space. Why the second line of this if compound command still not appear in the history?

  • [MS Access 2003 SQL] Switch is causing #error, why and how can I fix it...

    I have 3 fields in my table: start, end (dates) and length (number, might be blank). My Aim is to calculate an end date using start and length where end doesn't exist... I have: SELECT Switch((g.length<>0) And IsDate(g.end),DateAdd("m",g.length,g.start)) AS field FROM table g If there is no start, end or length, Access displays blank - this is fine. If there is no end, but start and length are ok, the calculated date is shown - again fine. BUT If there is no end, or length, but a start exists, access displays #Error I don't understand why, and can't fix it, please help!

  • What's the difference between starting a process from the dock vs. the command line on OS X

    I'm debugging an issue on OS X that only occurs when the application is started from the dock. It does not happen when the app is started from the command line. What is the difference between the two scenarios? The code I'm working with is a c++ based bundled plug-in being loaded in a third party app. I've attached to the process with GDB in both scenarios and the only difference I can see is that a couple of extra dylibs are loaded in the process when running from the command line and that the base address of my library is slightly different in the two scenarios. I've tried changing my linkage to i-prebind and/or -bind_at_load to no avail.

  • How to give friend access to git repository without giving command line access?

    I have some git repositories running on my server and I would like to give a friend read/write access to one. That's simple: I add him as a user, give him SSH access, and change the permissions to the repository folder. Everything works fine; I'm able to clone the git repository using Xcode and change things (ssh://www.example.com/repo.git). However, I do not want him to have command line access. If I recall correctly, Github does not give command line access to those who SSH in. I'm using Snow Leopard Server. Is this more of a server issue or a git issue? Do you have any idea where to begin? Setting the user's Login Shell to none (as opposed to /bin/bash) cuts off access to everything.

  • How to set a management IP on a Dell powerconnect 5524/5548 switch?

    When you first power on a 5524, connected via the serial console, you are offered a setup wizard where you can enter the management IP/Net/Gateway and enter the admin password. HOWEVER, if you dont do this in 60 seconds, the wizard dissapears, and there seems to be no way to run it again - even if you reboot the box. No commands work in the CLI, it just gives you this prompt: If you type say enable, or login, it gives: >login Unknown parameter May be one from the following list: debug help So no commands seem to work. The CLI reference guide does not seem to have any way to run the wizard, or to set the management port or admin passwords. So by not responding in 60 secons after boot, the unit is bricked. Any ideas?

  • How can I switch an existing set of Subversion repositories to use ActiveDirectory?

    I have a set of private Subversion repositories on a Windows Server 2003 box which developers access via SVNServe over the svn:// protocol. Currently we have been using the authz and passwd files for each repository to control access however with the growing number of repositories and developers I'm considering switching to using their credentials from ActiveDirectory. We run in an all Microsoft shop and use IIS instead of Apache on all of our web servers so I would prefer to continue to use SVNServe if possible. Besides it being possible, I'm also concerned about how to migrate our repositories so that the history for the existing users map to the correct ActiveDirectory accounts. Keep in mind also that I'm not the network administrator and I'm not terrible familiar with ActiveDirectory so I'll probably have to go through some other people to get the changes made in ActiveDirectory if necessary. What are my options? UPDATE 1: It appears from the SVN documentation that by using SASL I should be able to get SVNServe to authenticate using ActiveDirectory. To clarify, the answer that I'm looking for is how to go about configuring SVNServe (if possible) to use ActiveDirectory for authentication and then how to modify an existing repository to remap existing svn users to their ActiveDirectory domain login accounts. UPDATE 2: It appears that the SASL support in SVNServe works off of a plugin model and the documentation only shows as an example. Looking at the Cyrus SASL Library it looks like a number of authentication "mechanisms" are supported but I'm not sure which one is to be used for ActiveDirectory support nor can I find any documentation about such matters. UPDATE 3: Ok, well it looks like in order to communication with ActiveDirectory I'm looking to use saslauthd instead of sasldb for the *auxprop_plugin* property. Unfortunately it appears that according to some posts (possibly outdated and inaccurate) saslauthd does not build on Windows and such endeavors are considered a work in progress. UPDATE 4: The lastest post I've found on this topic makes it sound as though the proper binaries () are available through the MIT Kerberos Library but it sounds like the author of this post on Nabble.com is still having issues getting things working. UPDATE 5: It looks like from the TortoiseSVN discussions and also this post on svn.haxx.se that even if saslgssapi.dll or whatever necessary binaries are available and configured on the Windows server that the clients will also need the same customization in order to work with these repositories. If this is true, we will only be able to get ActiveDirectory support from a windows client only if changes are made in these clients such as TortoiseSVN and CollabNet build of the client binaries to support such authentication schemes. Although thats what these posts suggest, this is contradictory from what I originally assumed from other reading in that being SASL compatible should require no changes on the client but instead only that the server be setup to handle the authentication mechanism. After reading a bit more carefully in the document about Cyrus SASL in Subversion section 5 states "1.5+ clients with Cyrus SASL support will be able to authenticate against 1.5+ servers with SASL enabled, provided at least one of the mechanisms supported by the server is also supported by the client." So clearly GSSAPI support (which I understand is required for Active Directory) must be available within the client and the server. I have to say, I'm learning way too much about the internals of how Subversion handles authentication than I ever wanted to and I juts simply want to get an answer about whether I can have Active Directory authentication support when using SVNServe on a Windows server and accessing this from Windows clients. According to the official documentation it seems that this is possible however you can see that the configuration is not trivial if even possible at all.

I do not have (or want) the X Window System installed. I want to change my console screen resolution (not inside X) to 1024x600.   • Not Able To Connect to Windows Server 2008 R2 using FileZilla Externally

    I configured FTP Service/Role on my Windows Server 2008 R2 machine. I am able to connect from the inside, but not from the outside. On the inside I tested using cmd prompt and IE FTP. On the outside, I am testing with FileZilla and IE FTP. From the outside, IE FTP prompts me to enter my username/pwd, but nothing happens. Page eventually times out and I get "Internet Explorer cannot display page". Using FileZilla, I get the following messages. Note FileZilla resolved domain name and authenticates. I did not configure FTP Wirewall Support on the FTP site. I am not sure if I need to do this. I set up basic authentication, non-ssl, not allowing anonymous. I testing with Windows Firewall Turned off and on (I added windows firewall rule for port 21). On my network firewall (Cisco), I added a rule to forward port 21 traffic to FTP Server.   • What do I need in order to extract and combine text files from multiple ZIP files, via command line?

    I've got an interesting scripting challenge in front of me. I'm fairly certain there's a way to do it, but I feel like I'm probably lacking some particular tools and/or functional knowledge. There's some fifty-plus ZIP files that each contain, among other things, text files that need to be merged with one another. The structure is something like this: C:\Reports\FirstJob-1.zip |-MyName |-FirstJob |-1 |-[Some other folders] |-TXTReports |-English |-[Some other files] |-Report.txt C:\Reports\FirstJob-2.zip |-MyName |-FirstJob |-1 |-[Some other folders] |-TXTReports |-English |-[Some other files] |-Report.txt C:\Reports\SecondJob-1.zip |-MyName |-SecondJob |-1 |-[Some other folders] |-TXTReports |-English |-[Some other files] |-Report.txt If I had all the Report.txt files in one regular folder, and uniquely named, I could probably just write a FOR statement that targets *.txt and runs something like type filename.txt >> Consolidated.txt on each. However, these all have the same file name and are embedded deep within separate ZIP files. The potentially useful tools I currently have at my disposal are Windows XP Professional SP3, PowerShell, and WinZip. I'd rather not download or install anything else, but I do understand that third-party tools (or additional tools from Microsoft or WinZip) may be necessary. Whatever tools I use should run natively in Windows. I really don't want to have to mess with Cygwin or other emulators on this system. At the very least, I need a tool that will allow me to analyze and manipulate ZIP files from the command line. Also, are there any other particular complications to this that I've not yet thought of?

  • How can ICS in Windows 7 be managed via command line, scripts, config files, etc.?

    I've been using ICS successfully for years, but now I'm looking for a way to control it through something else than the GUI in Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections - Connection Properties: I want to do everything that the encircled checkbox does, without touching the GUI. But what does the checkbox do? Microsoft don't provide specific information and the most helpful forum post I've found is from 2003. Assuming that some of the advice is still valid, I've come to the conclusion that ICS is broken down into 6 parts that have to be set up individually: the sharedAccess service interface settings firewall rules a static route dnsproxy autodhcp I've already learned that the service can be started/stopped with the command net start/stop sharedAccess and that netsh is a good tool for changing the interface settings and the firewall rules. But I don't understand how ICS handles routing and DNS. All hosts in my network are configured statically, so I don't care much about autodhcp. Thanks for your help! EDIT: I've spent the whole day scanning through ProcMon and I've seen reads/writes to both the registry and the filesystem and it is difficult to determine what parts of it actually make ICS work. I'm trying to look for an API instead. I'm looking into this right now, but I still want to know more about the inner workings.

  • How do I switch java versions to an earlier version in Fedora 17?

    I just installed Fedora 17. I'm setting up the Android Build Environment and need Java. I downloaded and installed jdk-6u32-linux-amd64.rpm I ran java -version and it spit out the correct version. Well a day or two later i tried my first compile in Fedora 17 and it complained about java and failed. I ran java -version again and low and behold it spits out $ java -version java version "1.7.0_03-icedtea" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (fedora-2.1.fc17.7-x86_64) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 22.0-b10, mixed mode) I'm stumped. I mean, i've run the update/upgrade commands since i installed but i didn't think that updated full version revisions... So, I ran alternatives --config java and that only gave me the java 1.7 version. While digging around more I discovered that the recommended version of Java for the build environment is jdk-6u27-linux-x64-rpm.bin so I downloaded that from here: Oracle Download When I ran: sudo sh jdk-6u27-linux-x64-rpm.bin it returned: Unpacking...     I've got an Nvidia GTX 560ti card which currently I've got my 2 monitors hooked up to using the 2 DVI ports. However its got a mini-HDMI port which I've plugged a HDMI cable in (with mini adapter) and lead it into my TV which is across the room. I'm hoping to be able to toggle between the HDMI output and the DVI outputs, however I'm not sure how I'd go about this, Could somebody please point me in the right direction, I'm not really worried about having all 3 on at the same time so that isn't a problem, but if its possible then I'll do that.

    On my Linux computer, my keyboard switches from English to Serbian when I hold the Caps Lock key. For example, to write c all I have to do is hold Caps Lock, and press the key where c is on the Serbian keyboard (in this case, they key is ; on the English keyboard). When I release Caps Lock, the keyboard "switches back" to English, so that if I press ; I get ; as desired. Super useful. Please note that I know how to change the keyboard layout. I want to use Caps Lock as a modifier key to change the language only while being held down! Is there a way to replicate this behavior on Windows 7 or Windows 8?

    Hi all, I recently discovered the vimsvc/license command in vmware-vim-cmd and was trying to use that to automatically add my license key to a fresh vmware installation. vmware-vim-cmd -H hostip -O portnumber vimsvc/license --source file '/path/to/plaintext-file-that-contains-my-license-key.txt' plaintext-file-that-contains-my-license-key.txt contains my key in XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX format, I've also tried it with an extra carriage return at the end. Adding the key that way doesn't work, however.
