  Internally we work with metric units and use decimal fractions for sub units, e.g. 1cm or 0.35cm or 23mm) We're building a user oriented design tool for laying out reports and was wondering what the most most common approach taken by UI developers who are still working in Imperial measurements (Inches etc.) when it comes to decimalised fractions. Most of my cultural references point to people using 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 or 1/32 inch when measuring fractions. But when faced with decimal equivalent what do people tend to do? For example do people use 0.5, 0.25, 0.125 etc or do you people roll these up to say 0.5, 03, and 0.1 inch? Sorry for the confusing question.

• Can Django flush its database(s) between every unit test

  Django (1.2 beta) will reset the database(s) between every test that runs, meaning each test runs on an empty DB. However, the database(s) are not flushed. One of the effects of flushing the database is the auto_increment counters are reset. Consider a test which pulls data out of the database by primary key: class ChangeLogTest(django.test.TestCase): def test_one(self): do_something_which_creates_two_log_entries() log = LogEntry.objects.get(id=1) assert_log_entry_correct(log) log = LogEntry.objects.get(id=2) assert_log_entry_correct(log) This will pass because only two log entries were ever created. However, if another test is added to ChangeLogTest and it happens to run before test_one, the primary keys of the log entries are no longer 1 and 2, they might be 2 and 3. Now test_one fails. This is actually a two part question: Is it possible to force ./manage.py test to flush the database between each test case? Since Django doesn't flush the DB between each test by default, maybe there is a good reason. Does anyone know?

• mysterious difference between rake test and ruby

  Here is the mysterious: I have a scope which looks like this (in Image.rb) scope :moderate_all, delegates.where("moderation_flag = #{$moderation_flags[:not_moderated]}") Note that delegates is another scope that I am defining before moderate_all When I leave it like this, I can run my test that checks if an image has been "checked-out" it is not available anymore. I don't put the code of the test, because it does not matter actually. With this code, when I run "rake test" it fails, but if I do "ruby test/unit/image_test.rb" it works! I was thinking I am starting to have a bad day. Then I tried scope :moderate_all, lambda { delegates.where("moderation_flag = #{$moderation_flags[:not_moderated]}") } And "rake test" passes! So my problem is solved, but why?

• Organizing test hierarchy in clojure project

  There are two directories in a clojure project - src/ and test/. There's a file my_methods.clj in the src/calc/ directory which starts with (ns calc.my_methods...). I want to create a test file for it in test directory - test/my_methods-test.clj (ns test.my_methods-test (:require [calc.my_methods]) (:use clojure.test)) In the $CLASSPATH there are both project root directory and src/ directory. But the exception is still "Could not locate calc/my_methods__init.class or calc/my_methods.clj on classpath". What is the problem with requiring it in the test file? echo $CLASSPATH gives this: ~/project:~/project/src

  I have a class ClassToTest which has a dependency on ClassToMock. public class ClassToMock { private static final String MEMBER_1 = FileReader.readMemeber1(); protected void someMethod() { ... } } The unit test case for ClassToTest. public class ClassToTestTest { private ClassToMock _mock; @Before public void setUp() throws Exception { _mock = mock(ClassToMock.class) } } When mock is called in the setUp() method, FileReader.readMemeber1(); is executed. Is there a way to avoid this? I think one way is to initialize the MEMBER_1 inside a method. Any other alternatives? Thanks!

Since tests can usually be run separately. So the result of Create may never be cleaned up by Delete.

• jQuery: Freezing/Disabling all events temporarily?

  I have the following usecase: A div with some buttons When the user clicks on a button, a popup is shown and the background div is faded out to 0.5 opacity The problem is that when the popup comes in, the user is still able to click on the background buttons. At this point, I can remove the entire DIV temporarily but I don't want to do that. Is there anyway I can disable all the previously attached events and then add event handlers ONLY to the current popup? (I mean something like a close button should still work on a popup) Any suggestions?

  I ran testng tests for my test classes, I get the following three types of log output when I run the passing tests. I am using org.testng.AssertJUnit.assertTrue() methods in my tests. [testng] PASSED: testMethod1 on null(test.foo.bar.Class1) [testng] PASSED: testMethod2 on Default test name(test.foo.bar.jar.Class2) [testng] PASSED: testMethod3 Can any one please tell me why for some tests it says "on null" for some it says "on Default test name ...   Basically I have a tear down method that I want to log to the console which test was just run. How would I go about getting that string? I can get the class name, but I want the actual method that was just executed.   Hi, I was wondering if there was anything that provides test data for injecting into Nunit tests? I'm sure I came across something recently that does this but I couldn't find it again. Basically the idea is that I could use selenium and Nunit to create new customers within the system automatically. So I could have selenium type in customer names generated from test generator (the < DataGenerator is just an imaginary class): e.g. dim sFirstName as string = < DataGenerator >.GetRandomFirstName() dim sLastName as string = < DataGenerator >.GetRandomLastName() selenium.type("firstname_field",sFirstName) selenium.type("lastname_field",sLastName ) I've already seen SQLDataGenerator from Redgate which has a cmd line wrapper class, but I was wondering if there was anything else.
