  • implement code folding for a report with jquery

    - by Vignesh
    I'm trying to collapse or expand table rows with + and - sign displayed on the first column, using jquery. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $("tr.header").click(function () { $("tr.child", $(this).parent()).slideToggle("fast"); }); }); I'm trying to use this code. But I want the child of the parent I'm clicking on alone to be toggled. Any ideas on how to do it?

  • Supplying a callback to Jeditable

    - by pjmorse
    Summary: When I try supplying a onsubmit or onreset callback to Jeditable, I get Object [function] has no method 'apply' errors. How I got here: I've been working on a rails plugin to supply Jeditable and jWYSIWYG for in-place WYSIWYG editing. Development is driven by a Rails project I'm working on which asks for specific functions. One of the options I added was the ability to trigger Jeditable's edit mode using a button instead of clicking on the editable text itself, following the pattern suggested in this answer. The next step, though, is to hide the button while in edit mode, and reveal it again when leaving edit mode. The hide is easy enough; I just added a line to the triggering function which sends .toggle() to the button. Reveal is trickier. I figure I need to .toggle() again on submit or cancel, and helpfully, Jeditable offers onsubmit and onreset callbacks. However, when I try using those callbacks, I get this Object [something] has no method 'apply' errors. What I'm trying: Because this is in the context of a Rails helper, the actual mechanics are a little more involved than this, but the upshot is that I'm trying to follow this pattern, handing Jeditable this in the args: "onsubmit":"showTrigger", and then including this script: function showTrigger(settings, original) { $(".edit_trigger[id='element_id']").toggle(); } However, on submitting changes or canceling an edit, I get the error Object showTrigger has no method 'apply' ...as described above. I also tried sending in a function directly as the "onsubmit" argument (i.e. "onsubmit": "function(settings, original){$(\".edit_trigger[id='element_id']\").toggle();}" and then I just get Object function(settings, original){$(\".edit_trigger[id='element_id']\").toggle();} has no method 'apply' instead. There must be something wrong with how I'm handing in this callback. Any ideas? ETA: This answer suggests to me that somehow I'm providing a string to Jeditable when it expects a function instead. However, because I'm working within the context of a Rails helper, I'm not at all sure how to fix that - the "showTrigger" bit is set as a Ruby variable in the helper, and although window.showTrigger() is defined when the window is loaded, I don't know how to designate that function within a Ruby variable such that it will be recognized as a function at page load time.

  • Preventing focus on next form element after showing alert using JQuery

    - by digitalsanctum
    I have some text inputs which I'm validating when a user tabs to the next one. I would like the focus to stay on a problematic input after showing an alert. I can't seem to nail down the correct syntax to have JQuery do this. Instead the following code shows the alert then focuses on the next text input. How can I prevent tabbing to the next element after showing an alert? $('input.IosOverrideTextBox').bind({ blur: function(e) { var val = $(this).val(); if (val.length == 0) return; var pval = parseTicks(val); if (isNaN(pval) || pval == 0.0) { alert("Invalid override: " + val); return false; } }, focus: function() { $(this).select(); } });

  • jQuery val not working properly in Chrome

    - by Mircea
    I have a simple jQuery function: $('#selectable1 span').live('mousedown', function() { var ff = $(this).css("font-family"); $("#family").val(ff); }); When a span element is clicked (mousedown) an input (#family) gets its font family value. It works in FireFox but in Chrome it works only for font families composed from only one word. Georgia will work but Times New Roman will now. You can see the code here: http://jsfiddle.net/aLaGa/ or live at http://www.typefolly.com What is wrong with this? Thanx

  • Jquery, "$.each(", function returns error in IE. 'Length' is null or not an object

    - by Collin Estes
    My code is working fine in FireFox but my users are restricted to IE. I'm getting an error though in IE, related to my JQUERY function. populateTable:function(returnList) { var self = this; var eat = $.evalJSON(returnList.firstChild.textContent) $.each(eat,function() { $("<tr><td>" + this.reportId + "</td><td>" + this.description + "</td><td>" + this.drawingNumber + "<td></tr>").insertAfter(self.tblResults[0].childNodes[1]); }) } IE is erring on the $.each with the message below: 'Length' is null or not an object Any ideas or maybe a workaround for the $.each function? Update: returnList is an XML document object from an Ajax call. I'm trying to retrieve the JSON object string located within the XML tag.

  • jQuery - Trigger click event on links with spacebar?

    - by Herb Caudill
    It looks like in most browsers, an <input type="submit"> treats both [spacebar] and [enter] as a click, but an <a> link only treats [enter] as a click. My app uses a number of links formatted to simulate buttons, so a user that is accustomed to tabbing to a button and pressing [spacebar] will be frustrated. This bit of jQuery solves the problem: $("a.Button").die("keypress").live("keypress", function(e) { if (e.which == 32) { $(this).trigger("click"); e.preventDefault(); } }); My question: Is this a reason not to do this? I'm a little reluctant to override the browser's default behavior on something as basic as this, but since I'm already abusing the link tag to make it look like a button, at least this way I'm not violating the user's expectations any further.

  • Suppressing default anchor behavior in Safari with jQuery

    - by Macy Abbey
    Hello, I am attempting to prevent default anchor behavior in Safari using the jQuery library. Unfortunately, the standard techniques of returning false or using event.preventDefault() do not seem to be working in Safari. Could anyone help me with this issue? The code I'm working with is like this: $('#main .green-tabs a').live("click",function(event){ $('.green-tabs a').removeClass('active'); $(this).addClass('active'); event.preventDefault(); var that = this; return LolPage(event,that);});

  • How to actually use ZeroClipboard in jQuery?

    - by Martti Laine
    Hello I just can't get this thing. How is ZeroClipboard supposed to work? Why does it need to move the flash-element over the copied text? I've read this thing: http://code.google.com/p/zeroclipboard/wiki/Instructions Can someone provide me a short snippet, which makes it possible to copy a text in variable to users clipboard, when user clicks a link. Is this even possible? I don't care, if it doesn't work on all browsers (IE6 for example). I'm using jQuery. Martti Laine

  • Append a string to the end of an element attribute using jQuery

    - by ILMV
    I have an element: <select id="row" /> I want to append a string to the end of the id attribute, like this: <select id="row_1" /> The jQuery I am using to achieve this is (from within an each): $(this).attr('id',$(this).attr('id')+'_'+row_count); This looks ugly as sin, and whilst it works I want to know if there is a simpler solution. In this example, the ID prefix (e.g. row) is never constant, so I can't just do 'row_'+row_count. Cheers!

  • jQuery plugin: Colorpicker

    - by New Developper
    Hey all, I'm using this colorpicker (http://www.eyecon.ro/colorpicker) and am trying to capture the hex value so that I can use it on the server side to store the selected color. If you check out the link provided, I'm using the last option: $('#colorSelector').ColorPicker({ color: '#0000ff', onShow: function (colpkr) { $(colpkr).fadeIn(500); return false; }, onHide: function (colpkr) { $(colpkr).fadeOut(500); return false; }, onChange: function (hsb, hex, rgb) { $('#colorSelector div').css('backgroundColor', '#' + hex); } }); My problem is that I can't seem to get the hex value from it...I've tried simply calling the name of the input to get its value, but it won't work (when you click away to make the colorpicker disappear, the input changes to 'style="display:none;"' so I can't get anything from it. Then, I tried pulling the value using some simple jQuery calls, but got nothing... Please help....

  • Can you restrict entering invalid keystrokes with jquery ui autocomplete combobox

    - by oo
    when using the jquery ui autocomplete combobox, i would thought there would be an option to force only valid key entry based on the list. Is there anyway to not allow invalid keys so you can only enter valid items in the list? also, is there a way to set a default value of the combobox. if my list has (csharp, java, python) i can start typing "abcds . ." and it lets me type it in. I want only valid entries to be allowed.

  • Use jQuery to show a div only when scroll position is between 2 points

    - by Rik
    Hi, I'm trying to work out how to get a div (#tips) to appear when the user scrolls into the 2nd quarter of its containing div's height (#wrap), and then have it disappear when the user scrolls into the last quarter. So it would be like this: 1st quarter - #tips is hidden 2nd quarter - #tips is visible 3rd quarter - #tips is visible 4th quarter - #tips is hidden I'm almost completely new to jQuery but what I've got so far is this: function addKeyboardNavigation(){ // get the height of #wrap var $wrapHeight = $('#wrap').outerHeight() // get 1/4 of wrapHeight var $quarterwrapHeight = ($wrapHeight)/4 // get 3/4 of wrapHeight var $threequarterswrapHeight = 3*($wrapHeight) // check if we're over a quarter down the page if( $(window).scrollTop() > $quarterwrapHeight ){ // if we are show keyboardTips $("#tips").fadeIn("slow"); } } This is where I get confused. How can I check if the scroll position is $quarterwrapHeight but < $threequarterswrapHeight? To make it run I've been using: // Run addKeyboardNavigation on scroll $(window).scroll(function(){ addKeyboardNavigation(); }); Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

  • Global variables in jQuery

    - by Thorpe Obazee
    I have been working on this script: <script type="text/javascript" src="/js/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ compentecy = $('#competency_id'); $('#add_competency').bind('click', function(e){ e.preventDefault(); $.post('/script.php', {competency_id: compentecy.val(), syllabus_id: 2}, function(){ // competency = $('#competency_id'); competency.children('option[value=' + compentecy.val() + ']').remove(); }); }); }); </script> in the $.post callback function, it seems that I can't access global variables. I tried $.competency but it didn't work. I always get a "competency is undefined" error. I had to reinitialize the variable once again inside the callback. Is there a way to NOT reinitialize the variable inside the callback?

  • JQuery iterating through textboxes and changing its color

    - by bill-nielsen
    I'm trying to iterate through all the empty textboxes in a table and change its background colour. I'm using the following JQuery code: $("#btn2").click(function() { var emptyTextBoxes = $('input:text').filter(function() { return this.value == ""; }); emptyTextBoxes.each(function() { this.css('background-color', '#ffff00'); // $('#Col3Txtbx').css('background-color', '#ffff00'); }); }); This does not seem to refer to the textbox which seems strange to me. When I uncomment out the particular textbox, it does reset the background colour. Can someone explain to me what 'This' is referring to?
