  • Custom string class (C++)

    - by Sanctus2099
Hey guys. I'm trying to write my own C++ String class for educational and need purposes. The first thing is that I don't know that much about operators and that's why I want to learn them. I started writing my class but when I run it it blocks the program but does not do any crash. Take a look at the following code please before reading further: class CString { private: char* cstr; public: CString(); CString(char* str); CString(CString& str); ~CString(); operator char*(); operator const char*(); CString operator+(const CString& q)const; CString operator=(const CString& q); }; First of all I'm not so sure I declared everything right. I tried googleing about it but all the tutorials about overloading explain the basic ideea which is very simple but lack to explain how and when each thing is called. For instance in my = operator the program calls CString(CString& str); but I have no ideea why. I have also attached the cpp file below: CString::CString() { cstr=0; } CString::CString(char *str) { cstr=new char[strlen(str)]; strcpy(cstr, str); } CString::CString(CString& q) { if(this==&q) return; cstr = new char[strlen(q.cstr)+1]; strcpy(cstr,q.cstr); } CString::~CString() { if(cstr) delete[] cstr; } CString::operator char*() { return cstr; } CString::operator const char* () { return cstr; } CString CString::operator +(const CString &q) const { CString s; s.cstr = new char[strlen(cstr)+strlen(q.cstr)+1]; strcpy(s.cstr, cstr); strcat(s.cstr,q.cstr); return s; } CString CString::operator =(const CString &q) { if(this!=&q) { if(cstr) delete[] cstr; cstr = new char[strlen(q.cstr)+1]; strcpy(cstr,q.cstr); } return *this; } For testing I used a code just as simple as this CString a = CString("Hello") + CString(" World"); printf(a); I tried debugging it but at a point I get lost. First it calls the constructor 2 times for "hello" and for " world". Then it get's in the + operator which is fine. Then it calls the constructor for the empty string. After that it get's into "CString(CString& str)" and now I'm lost. Why is this happening? After this I noticed my string containing "Hello World" is in the destructor (a few times in a row). Again I'm very puzzeled. After converting again from char* to Cstring and back and forth it stops. It never get's into the = operator but neither does it go further. printf(a) is never reached. I use VisualStudio 2010 for this but it's basically just standard c++ code and thus I don't think it should make that much of a difference

  • LINQ2SQL and MS SQL 2000

    - by artvolk
Good day! I have used LINQ2SQL with MS SQL 2005, but now I need to use it with MS SQL 2000. I have found only article on MSDN that tells about Skip() and Take() oddities on MS SQL 2000 (that's because it lacks ROW_NUMBER(), I suppose) and nothing more. Anyway, does anybody have expirience with LINQ2SQL and MS SQL 2000 combination. P.S. Just wondering: is it possible to model LINQ2SQL class on view, not a real table?

  • SQLCMD Restore works in Management Studio but not from DOS prompt

    - by Gautam
Any idea why my Restore command works fine when run in Management Studio 2008 but not when run from the dos prompt? Shown below is the error when running from the dos prompt. C:\>SQLCMD -s local\SQL2008 -d master -Q "RESTORE DATABASE [Sample.Db] FROM DISK = N'C:\Sample.Db.bak' WITH FILE = 1, MOVE N'Sample.Db' TO N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQL2008\MSSQL\DATA\Sample.Db.mdf', MOVE N'Sample.Db_log' TO N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQL2008\MSSQL\DATA\Sample.Db_log.ldf', NOUNLOAD, REPLACE, STATS = 10" Msg 3634, Level 16, State 1, Server GAUTAM, Line 1 The operating system returned the error '32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)' while attempting 'RestoreContainer::ValidateTargetForCreation' on 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQL2008\MSSQL\DATA\Sample.Db.mdf'. Msg 3156, Level 16, State 8, Server GAUTAM, Line 1 File 'Sample.Db' cannot be restored to 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQL2008\MSSQL\DATA\Sample.Db.mdf'. Use WITH MOVE to identify a valid location for the file. Msg 3634, Level 16, State 1, Server GAUTAM, Line 1 The operating system returned the error '32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)' while attempting 'RestoreContainer::ValidateTargetForCreation' on 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQL2008\MSSQL\DATA\Sample.Db_log.ldf'. Msg 3156, Level 16, State 8, Server GAUTAM, Line 1 File 'Sample.Db_log' cannot be restored to 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQL2008\MSSQL\DATA\Sample.Db_log.ldf'. Use WITH MOVE to identify a valid location for the file. Msg 3119, Level 16, State 1, Server GAUTAM, Line 1 Problems were identified while planning for the RESTORE statement. Previous messages provide details. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Server GAUTAM, Line 1 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. However if I execute this directly in Management Studio 2008, it works fine: RESTORE DATABASE [Sample.Db] FROM DISK = N'C:\Sample.Db.bak' WITH FILE = 1, MOVE N'Sample.Db' TO N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQL2008\MSSQL\DATA\Sample.Db.mdf', MOVE N'Sample.Db_log' TO N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQL2008\MSSQL\DATA\Sample.Db_log.ldf', NOUNLOAD, REPLACE, STATS = 10 There is no lock or security issues, the data base doesn't exist on the server. I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

  • How to convert String to Java.sql.date and Java.sql.time

    - by Mr Morgan
Hello If I have a method like this: public static String convertDateTimeToString(DateTime dt) { return dt.getDate() + " " + dt.getTime(); } Which takes a Datetime object of my own which contains a Java.sql.date and a Java.sql.time, what is the best way of reversing the process so that I can substring a Java.sql.date and a Java.sql.time from a string? Or if DateTime dt is a JodaTime DateTime object? If this can be done without reference to Java.util.date. Thanks Mr Morgan.

  • Including SQL Server Express with Application

    - by Echilon
I'm bundling an application for distribution and SQL Server is a prequisite so we're including SQL Server Express. What's the easiest way to include SQL server in a point and click installer? In the past I've used NSIS, but it was always flaky when installing the .NET Framework, so .NET, SQL Server and our app seems like an impossible task. It needs to be free, which probably cuts back my options a tad. Any suggestions or recommendations?

  • SQL Comparison Tools

Which SQL comparison tool would you recommend for SQL server database comparisons. I've been looking at SQL Compare and SQL Delta. I'd like the ability to compare and sync database schema and data.

  • SQL Server 2008 and .Net 4.0?

    - by JMarsch
Does anyone konw whether I can load .net 4.0 assemblies from SQL Server 2008? In particular, we are looking at SQL Reporting, with Custom Data Extensions. I have noticed that hte SQL Server 2008 Business Intelligence Studio does not seem to support VS2010 at the moment. If I release my CDE's as .net 4.0 assemblies, will I even be able to load them from within the SQL Server Reporting Server?

  • Send shrink Command to Microsoft SQL Database file via Ado.net connection

    - by user287107
How is it possible to execute a direct SQL command to an ADO.NET connected database? I want to send a DBCC SHRINKDATABASE to the SQL server, to compress the current datafile after a big deletion process. The function ObjectContext::CreateQuery returns a parser error after the DBCC command. Is there any other way to shrink the database file, or another way to send the SQL command directly to the SQL Server?

  • sql CE 3.5 pros and cons

    - by Buzz
Hi, Currently we are using xml files as local data store for our disconnected application, there is proposal to move to SQL CE database. Can some one with experience of SQL CE provide some pros and cons of using sql compact, for example data type support etc. As Central DB server we are using SQL Server2005. One of the requirement is to merge local store with central DB, and we don't want any data loss. Thanks

  • if string is alphabetically greater than other string in objective

    - by Jonathan
I'm trying to use an if statement to work out which of 2 strings comes first alphabetically. Like with numbers and greater and less than: if (1 < 2) { just with strings: if(@"ahello" < @"bhello") { Or would I have to have a string containing all the letters and then check the index of the first char in each string and see which index is greater, and the index that is less than the other comes first in the alphabet and then if they are equal move on to the next char and repeat?

  • Find out how much storage a row is taking up in the database

    - by Vaccano
Is there a way to find out how much space (on disk) a row in my database takes up? I would love to see it for SQL Server CE, but failing that SQL Server 2008 works (I am storing about the same data in both). The reason I ask is that I have a Image column in my SQL Server CE db (it is a varbinary[max] in the SQL 2008 db) and I need to know now many rows I can store before I max out the memory on my device.

  • SQL Server stored procedure in multi threaded environments

    - by Shamika
Hi, I need to execute some Sql server stored procs in a thread safe manner. At the moment I'm using software locks (C# locks) to achieve this but wonder what kind of features provided by the Sql server itself to achieve thread safety. It seems to be there are some table and row locking features built in to Sql server. Also from a performance perspective what is best approach? Software locks? Or Sql Server built in locks? Thanks, Shamika

    - by ripper234
I know mysql, and I'd like to learn sqlserver. I'm currently stuck on the basics of basics: How to install and configure sql server How to connect to it I installed Sql Server through Web Platform Installer, and have Visual Studio 2008 installed. Where do I begin?

Is the first one a string literal that doesnt get autoreleased or is it just in memory for it's current scope and I dont have to worry about it?
