• Web Based School/College ERP

  We are planning to build a Web Based School/College ERP. The main problem we face is Hardware support. Since it is Web Based, it is not possible to implement Biometrics. But most of our clients do ask for Biometrics. I hope we need to use a desktop application to do that. Can you please give some suggestions for this? Another thing is, here we don't have stable internet connection. We frequently face disconnection. This is another problem for Web Based CRM. In HTML5 there is a feature called Offline storage. Is it possible to use this feature for such dynamic ERP? For example, let's say we need to enter marks for the students. Net got disconnected. Is it possible to use HTML5 offline feature to save the marks offline and upload them when we got connection back?

• How to delete all your old website data from the internet?

  I had my website on rohbits.com but for some reasons I had to delete it and recreate it with this URL wwww.rohbits.com/blog. My problem is that the old links are still visible on google search and when people click on those links, they land on a 404 Error page of the hosting company. I want to either delete all the previous data from the search engines or have an 404 Error page of my own so that I can tell my visitors where the actual website is. I have already redirected all the traffic which comes to rohbits.com to www.rohbits.com/blog but when they click on the expired links, they get this error page. One sample expired link is this one: http://rohbits.com/wordpress-tricks.

• Moving from root to www

  I've read tons of questions but I can't find the answer to this seemingly obvious issue. I'm moving my WordPress site from domain.com to www.domain.com so that I can use CloudFlare. I did the change in WP and everything works fine, with domain.com redirecting correctly. Do I need to add the www site in GWT (and remove domain.com) or will it keep tracking the website correctly thanks to the redirections?

I have created sitemap.xml and submitted it to Google using webmaster tool Yahoo/Bing using Bing Webmater Ask.com now since site will get updated every 2-3 times per week i am not sure what should be the best approach. • Subscribe/Publish Model in Web-based Application (c#) - Best Practices for Event Handlers

  I was recently exposed to a desktop application that uses an publish/subscribe model to handle commands, events, etc. I can't seem to find any good examples of using this in a web application, so I wonder if I am off base in trying to use this for web based development (on the server side)? I'm using asp.net c#. My main question in regards to the design is: When using a publish/subscribe model, is it better to have generic commands/events that pass no parameters and then have the subscribers look at static context objects that contain the data relevant to the event? Or is it better to create custom arguments for every event that contain data related to the event? The whole concept of a global container seems so convenient but at the same time seems to break encapsulation. Any thoughts or best practices from anyone who has implemented this type of model in a web based application? Even suggestions on this model out of the scope of my question are appreciated.

Last I knew, Photoshop still has the "web safe" yield icon[1] on it's color picker. Are web safe colors still a concern? Outside of the obvious application (accessibility, legacy software versions, etc.), how much consideration should I give to limiting my color choice for my general audience? [1] Or was it the cube?   Sytmptom:   You have a list or document library page (allitems.aspx) and you are trying to add a Web part.  You get an error message: Unable to add selected Web part(s).  (name of Web part): The file is not checked out.  You must first check out this document before making changes. Publishing features are not turned on and it is not a page that lives in a library accessible by the GUI. Solution:  Open the site in SharePoint Designer and check out the page. Then, check in the page after modifications are done.  It seems like this is just a bug.

• Need an engine for MMO mockup

  What I don't need is an MMORPG engine, at the moment. What I do need is a flexible easy-to-use engine that I can make a mock-up with. I don't need support for more than 10 players in an instance, so any multiplayer platform is probably fine. I need an engine with which I can create the following core features: Waves of simple AI enemies that have specific objectives (move to point A, destroy target, move to point B). The units present can be between 50-200 in number. An over-the-shoulder view and the ability to control a team of 3 (like Mass Effect or the latest Dragon Age) Functioning inventory system Right now, all I can really think of is Unreal or Source. Any other suggestions? Again, this is a proving mock-up, not an actual MMO. I'm not terribly worried about the visual aspects as we just want to test mechanics. Note: Can write some scripts in Python, Ruby, or Lua, if necessary.

• Robust way to keep records of software releases?

  We release a number of small plug-ins that go along with our software. Each plug-in allows our software to talk to a single manufactuer's hardware. I would like to devise a system for keeping track of plug-in releases. Example info that should be stored: Hardware manufacturer name 32-bit? 64-bit? both? What modes of operation does the hardware support? What versions of the manufacturer's driver have been tested with the plugin? Desirable properties of the system: Able to synchronize with version control software Stores data in human-readable text file (also good for differ tool) Free visual, spreadsheet-like editor available Able to do simple analysis like "What is the oldest plug-in?" I've got to imagine that someone else has tackled this problem already. Right now my best guess is XML/JSON with a visual editor, but I have been disappointed in the editors I've tried so far. I'd like to get input from some more experienced developers. Thanks!

• Can too many 301 redirects cause a DNS error?

  For a site http://imageocd.com that I just set up I initially spelled the category "automobiles" as "autimobiles"... I know it's rediculous. I then set up over 10,000 pages behind that category e.g. http://imageocd.com/automobiles/hillman-minx-cabrio-pictures-and-wallpapers. So, I set up over 10,000 301 url redirects to change the spelling on automobiles. I just checked my Google Webmasters report and got an error saying: http://www.imageocd.com/: Googlebot can't access your siteSep 7, 2012 Over the last 24 hours, Googlebot encountered 2 errors while attempting to retrieve DNS information for your site. The overall error rate for DNS queries for your site is 66.7%. Could the overabundance of 301 redirects be causing this? I host 13 sites on this dedicated server and all sites are running fine. I also contacted GoDaddy and they said the server is running fine. Any ideas on what might be going on? Also, I have "canonical" set up for every URL. Could this be part of the error? Thanks.

• Running CLOC (count lines of code) on Windows...or alternative

  I'm trying to use CLOC on Windows (XP) to count lines of code, and I can't get it to work. I downloaded the latest Win installer for CLOC 1.5.6, ran it (which caused a "DOS" window to open, scroll with text rapidly, then close before I could read anything) and then wrote cloc at the cmd prompt...and Windows doesn't recognize it as a command. Or if there is another easy-to-use lines of code counter that one could recommend (that runs on Windows), I'd be happy to try that.

• What are some advantages / disadvantages to working on a remote development machine?

  At home I have a fast rig with my dev environment running in virtual box. that works great, but at work I have a so-so laptop that can barely push visual studio express, outlook, and a dozen chrome windows at the same time. So I can either ask for a dedicated desktop to do development on, or I can ask for a slice on an existing server from IT and remote into it. Setup-wise, the remote option is faster and cheaper. But I don't know its affect on production in the long term. I've done small amounts of work through a remote connection, but never extended development. Do you have experience with this? What are some of the ads/disads to it? Did it make you less productive?

• Is there a tool for detecting sites using the same template?

But I would love to look at other sites which have already implemented a full website using this template. • Is there a better strategy than relying on the compiler to catch errors?

  I've been programming in C and C++ for some time, although I would say I'm far from being an expert. For some time, I've been using various strategies to develop my code such as unit tests, test driven design, code reviews and so on. When I wrote my first programs in BASIC, I typed in long blocks before finding they would not run and they were a nightmare to debug. So I learned to write a small bit and then test it. These days, I often find myself repeatedly writing a small bit of code then using the compiler to find all the mistakes. That's OK if it picks up a typo but when you start adjusting the parameters types etc just to make it compile you can screw up the design. It also seems that the compiler is creeping into the design process when it should only be used for checking syntax. There's a danger here of over reliance on the compiler to make my programs better. Are there better strategies than this? I vaguely remember some time ago an article on a company developing a type of C compiler where an extra header file also specified the prototypes. The idea was that inconsistencies in the API definition would be easier to catch if you had to define it twice in different ways.

  Recently i started to optimize my company's website. With a little help of market samurai. One of the adjustments was a www redirect to the prefered domain. We currently rank on #8 for our desired keyword with the domain without the www. If I add a custom url (our domain with www), we see a difference in stats BLP (backlinks to the page) {it's the website on top} Can anyone tell me how i could merge this so we might even rank better for our keyword? What I did so far: 3 weeks ago set the www.duo.be as prefered domain in GWT and put a 301 redirect in place so the duo.be gets redirected to www.duo.be Both domains are in GWT and both with www.duo.be as preferred domain.   Problem: I'm asked to prepare a document where all our DB tables are listed and I'm supposed to list all Controllers that uses these DB tables for read and another list for Controllers that do write operations. The code is scattered everywhere. There is code in the Controllers, in the models and even in the views. The application uses PROPEL as an ORM. What makes this really difficult is that the Controller may not be directly calling the table, but it may be instantiating a model class that calls that table. Is there an educated way to approach this crazy task? Note: Searching for the table name won't provide a solution because if a model uses that table I wouldn't know which Controller is using that model.

• Change from static HTML file to meta tag for Google Webmaster verification

  I started verifying the server by putting a couple of static HTMLs in place. Then I noticed that Google wants you to keep these files in place. I didn't want to keep the static HTMLs in, so I want to switch to an alternative verification mechanism, and include the meta tags on the home page. Unfortunately, once your site is verified, you never seem to be able to change to an alternative way of verification. I tried removing the HTML pages. No luck whatsoever. Google still considers the site to be 'verified'. Does anybody know how to undo this? All I want to do is switch to the meta tag based method of site ownership verification.

I have done pretty nice SEO of my website , the website is made in php , anyone can submit article and the submitted articles are moderated by the moderators , the site is online from more then a month but still the user count is 10-20 only total impressions are 700 according to webmaster google , how much time does google webmaster takes to refresh the data , cause from 3 -4 days the impressions shown in the dashboard are 700 only , I am posting 2 article each day , please help me , I am very disappointed with all my effort and i really need a good motivation to carry on my work.
