  • Android: Touch seriously slowing my application

    - by Jason Rogers
Hi all, I've been raking my brains on this one for a while. when I'm running my application (opengl game) eveyrthing goes fine but when I touch the screen my application slows down quite seriously (not noticeable on powerful phones like the nexus one, but on the htc magic it gets quite annoying). I did a trace and found out that the touch events seem to be handled in a different thread and even if it doesn't take so much processing time I think androids ability to switch between threads is not so good... What is the best way to handle touch when speed is an issue ? Currently I'm using : in the GLSurfaceView @Override public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) { GameHandler.onTouchEvent(event); return true; } Any ideas are welcome

  • Hidden links are still clickable on the Android browser

    - by David
I've got a contextual menu that appears when a button is clicked. This menu has some links and after some seconds is hidden again. The problem is that after the menu has disappeared the links are still there. They are not shown but are clickable and the green border appears. And after some seconds they disappear. I've tryied many ways of hiding the menu: display: none, visibility: hidden, width: 0, height: 0, jquery hide, jquery fadeout... but none worked. Also hidding the links. Does anyone have a idea about what's happening? With the rest of the browsers it works without problem Thanks

  • Iterating ListView items in Android

    - by pocoa
I want to iterate a list of items into a ListView. This code below is not enough to iterate all the items into the list because of the weird behaviour of getChildCount() function which only returns the visible item count. for (int i = 0; i < list.getChildCount(); i++) { item = (View)list.getChildAt(i); product = (Product)item.getTag(); // make some visual changes if product.id == someProductId } My screen displays 7 results and when there are more than 7 items into the list, it's not possible to access to the 8th item or so.. Only visible items.. Should I use ListIterator instead? Thanks.

  • slow android emulator

    - by Andrie
I have a 2.67GHz Celeron Processor, 1.21GBs of RAM on a x86 Windows XP Pro machine. My understanding is that the emulator should start fairly quickly on such a machine, but for me it does not. I have followed all instructions in setting up the IDE, SDKs, JDKs and such and have had some success in staring the emulator quickly but is very particulary. How can I if possible fix this problem. Even if it starts and loads home screen it is very sluggish. Any help would be appreciated guys thanks. I have tried the Eclipse IDE in Galileos, and Ganymede.

  • Android : Stop image scaling down

    - by John Smith
Hi, I'm trying to draw an image in a view but having problems trying to maintain the scale of the original image. Basically, I have a small view and I would like to show part of the image in the view. The intention then is to perform a translation on the image so that a different part appears in the view. No matter what I try, either the image is down-scaled automatically to fit the view or the whole image is viewable. I've tried playing about with the settings on BitmapDrawable, ImageView and Layout to no avail. Anyone know a good way to achieve this?

  • Android : start intent in setOnClickListener

    - by Derek
I have a button, and this button is going to get the values from EditText, then using this value to start a new Intent protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { textDay = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.textDay); textMonth = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.textMonth); textYear = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.textYear); gen = (Button) findViewById(R.id.getGraph); gen.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { getthisIntent(); } public Intent getthisIntent(Context context) { day = textDay.getText(); month = textMonth.getText(); year = textYear.getText(); date = day + "/" + month + "/" + year; . .// Plot graph using AchartEngine, then return an Intent // . } } }); but i get the error "The method getthisIntent(Context) in the type new View.OnClickListener(){} is not applicable for the arguments ()" Can i get some help? or do i have another alternative solution, when i click the button, then the button pass the values to the new intent, and start it without having a new xxx.java file? Edit This is basically what I am doing now, i need to get the things inserted by user, and plot a graph, the only way i know how to plot graph using AchartEngine is create a new activity with define this public Intent getthisIntent(Context context) To be honest, i dont really know what the hell I am doing, please correct me...

  • Android imageButton reset

    - by Dorin Rusu
I have an app in which I need to use ImageButtons. The app has tabs, and when I click on a tab the ImageButton should be calling setBackgroundResource(), and when I click on another tab the imageButton should call setBackgroundColor() instead. The problem is that once the resource has been set (in my case a shape with round corners, a stroke and a transparent background), any use of setBackgroundColor() will just recolor the shape, and not the whole button. Is there a way to reset/clear the resource of an ImageButton?

  • Android - save/restore state of custom class

    - by user1209216
I have some class for ssh support - it uses jsch internally. I use this class on main activity, this way: public class MainActivity extends Activity { SshSupport ssh = new SshSupport(); ..... @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); //Handle events for ssh ssh.eventHandler = new ISshEvents() { @Override public void SshCommandExecuted(SshCommandsEnum commandType, String result) { } //other overrides here } //Ssh operations on gui item click @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View v, int position, long arg3) { if (ssh.IsConnected() == false) { try { ssh.ConnectAsync(/*parameters*/); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } try { ssh.ExecuteCommandAsync(SshCommandsEnum.values()[position]); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } }); } It works very well. My application connects to ssh, performs all needed operation in background thread and results are reported to gui, via events as shown above. But nothing works after user change device orientation. It's clear for me - activity is re-created and all state is lost. Unfortunately, my SshSupport class object is lost as well. It's pretty easy to store gui state for dynamically changed/added objects (using put/get serializable etc methods). But I have no idea how to prevent my ssh object, ssh connected session being lost. Since my class is not serializable, I can't save it to bundle. Also, even if I make my SshSupport class serializable, jsch objects it uses still are not serializable. So what is the best way to solve this?

  • Android: How to declare global variables?

    - by niko
Hi, I am creating an application which requires login. I created the main and the login activity. In the main activity onCreate method I added the following condition: public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); ... loadSettings(); if(strSessionString == null) { login(); } ... } The onActivityResult method which is executed when the login form terminates looks like this: @Override public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data); switch(requestCode) { case(SHOW_SUBACTICITY_LOGIN): { if(resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) { strSessionString = data.getStringExtra(Login.SESSIONSTRING); connectionAvailable = true; strUsername = data.getStringExtra(Login.USERNAME); } } } The problem is the login form sometimes appears twice (the login() method is called twice) and also when the phone keyboard slides the login form appears again and I guess the problem is the variable strSessionString. Does anyone know how to set the variable global in order to avoid login form appearing after the user already successfully authenticates? Thanks!

  • Write to PDF using PHP from android device

    - by Brent Mitchell
I am trying to write to a pdf file on php server. I have sent variables to the server, create the pdf document, then have my phone download the document to view on device. The variables seem not to write on the php file. I have my code below public void postData() { try { Calculate calc = new Calculate(); HttpClient mClient = new DefaultHttpClient(); StringBuilder sb=new StringBuilder("myurl.com/pdf.php"); HttpPost mpost = new HttpPost(sb.toString()); String value = "1234"; List nameValuepairs = new ArrayList(1); nameValuepairs.add(new BasicNameValuePair("id",value)); mpost.setEntity(new UrlEncodedFormEntity(nameValuepairs)); } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) { Log.w(" error ", e.toString()); } catch (Exception e) { Log.w(" error ", e.toString()); } } And my php code to write the variable "value" onto the pdf document: //code to reverse the string if($_POST[] != null) { $reversed = strrev($_POST["value"]); $this->SetFont('Arial','u',50); $this->Text(52,68,$reversed); } I am just trying to write the variable in a random spot, but the variable the if statement is always null and I do not know why. Thanks. Sorry if it is a little sloppy.
