  At random times, twice in the past two weeks, the we application will start to error and not work until I recycle the app pool in IIS. • Troubleshooting FORM POST problems

  I'm using the following code to submit to a WCF service. I keep getting an error that the key is invalid. I have a webpage on the same server that I submit the same data (but different key) using a FORM POST. It works fine that way. I put the URL below all in a URL (including valid key from server webpage) and get the key is invalid error. I'm thinking the data I'm submitting through the iPhone isn't really going across as a FORM POST but rather as a URL. Is there anything I may be doing wrong in the following code or any other suggestions? • jQuery date picker not persistant after AJAX

  So I'm using the jQuery date picker, and it works well. I am using AJAX to go and get some content, obviously when this new content is applied the bind is lost, I learnt about this last week and discovered about the .live() method. But how do I apply that to my date picker? Because this isn't an event therefore .live() won't be able to help... right? This is the code I'm using to bind the date picker to my input: $(".datefield").datepicker({showAnim:'fadeIn',dateFormat:'dd/mm/yy',changeMonth:true,changeYear:true}); I do not want to call this metho everytime my AJAX fires, as I want to keep that as generic as possible. • Calling ASP.NET Web API using JQuery ajax - cross site scripting issue

  I have a Web API which I am calling using the JQuery ajax function. When I test the service directly (using the Chrome RESTEasy extension) it works fine, however when I call it using the JQuery ajax function I get an error. I'm calling it on port 81: $.ajax({ url: "http://127.0.0.1:81/api/people", data: JSON.stringify(personToCreate), type: "POST", contentType: "application/json;charset=utf-8", statusCode: { 201: function (newPerson) { callback(newPerson); } }, success: function (newPerson) { alert("New person created with an Id of " + newPerson.Id); }, error: function (jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert('Error. '+errorThrown); } }); ...but when I trace it using FireBug Lite the response comes from port 82: {"Message":"No HTTP resource was found that matches the request URI 'http://127.0.0.1:82/api/people'.","MessageDetail":"No action was found on the controller 'People' that matches the request."} I think the error is, effectively, due to cross-site scripting being blocked, but I'm not actually cross-site scripting, if you see what I mean. Has anyone else come across this and been able to fix it? The only difference seemes to be that wen called through RESTEasy it is (correctly) using http://127.0.0.1:81 but for some reason when called via JQuery/ajax it seems to be using http://127.0.0.1:82.

• jsTree: How to create a new ID for the new added node?

  Hi, I can normally get the ID of the default tree nodes but my problem is onCreate then jsTree will add a new node but it doesn't have an ID. My question is how can I add an ID to the newly created tree node? What I'm thinking to do is adding the ID HTML attribute to the newly created tree node but how? I need to get the ID of all of the nodes because it will serve as a reference for the node's respective div storage. • Assigning Javascript click callbacks to Flash elements?

  Bear in mind I'm a web developer but not a Flash developer and know little about Flash. I work with people who are the opposite and know very little about web development. Maybe someone who is good with both can answer this question? I work for an Advertisement software company and we are having fits with our Ad click-throughs opening tabs vs popups in different browsers. Tabs are preferred becaus pop-ups are subject to blockers. I read that tabs will always be opened if it is a callback triggered by a user click. This is fine with me. Problem is the Flash developers, using their external interface, are trying to open the new window when the Flash ad gets clicked themselves. So even though it's user initiated Flash behooves upon itself to open the website. I think this may be why they end up being popups instead of new tabs. Is there a way external to Flash using Javascript to assign the click events to Flash elements so that only new tabs will ever be opened by clicking the Flash element? Or a way through Flash can assign Javascript callbacks to its elements? Thanks!

  Hello everyone, The company I work for has all of its legacy ("legacy" being used rather liberally in this context) code in VB.NET. They have about 6000+ lines of VB.NET code, so all of the developers are comfortable with it. We have started to develop a new product, and are finding that some modules are easier to complete in C# than in VB.NET, such as Interprocess Communication via WCF. The things our product will eventually need to do are as follows: Communicate via IPC between Windows Services, Silverlight, and WinForms Handle parallization, and all the complexity that comes along with it Windows Service and WinForms development ASP.NET, AJAX, and Silverlight development Database (SQL) access Lots of event handling (Sync and Async events) My question is: Given the type of work we will be doing to complete our product, are there features of one language that will make life easier that the other does not have? And if so, it is worth asking the developers to switch to a language they are less comfortable with? I was hoping to keep this as objective as possible, by listing exactly what type of work we will be doing with the product. Please don't turn this into a VB/C# holy war. Thanks, Onion-Knight

  Probably just a gross oversight of some sort, but I'm not receiving any WM_SIZE messages in the message loop. However, I do receive them in the WndProc. I thought the windows loop gave messages out to WndProc? • What's the compelling reason to upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 from VS2008?

  Are there new features in Visual Studio 2010 that are must-haves? If so, which ones? For me, the big draws for VS2008 as compared to VS2005 were LINQ, .NET Framework multitargeting, WCF (REST + Syndication), and general devenv.exe reliability. Granted, some of these features are framework things, and not tool things. For the purposes of this discussion, I'm willing to combine them into one bucket. What is the list of must-have features for VS2010 versus VS2008? Are there any? I am particularly interested in C#. Update: I know how to google, so I can get the official list from Microsoft. I guess what I really wanted was, the assessment from people using it, as to which things are really notable. Microsoft went on for 3 pages about 2008/3.5 features, and many people sort of boiled it down to LINQ, and a few other things. What is that short list for VS2010? Summary so far, what people think is cool or compelling: Visual Studio engine multi-monitor support new extensibility model based on WPF, prettier and more usable new TFS stuff, incl automated test tools parallel debugging .NET Framework parallel extensions for .NET C# 4.0 generic variance optional and named params easier interop with non-managed environments, like COM or Javascript VB 10.0 collection and array literals / initializers automatic properties anonymous methods / statement lambdas I read up on these at Zander's blog. He described these and other features. • Window message procedures in Linux vs Windows

  In Windows when you create a window, you must define a (c++) LRESULT CALLBACK message_proc(HWND Handle, UINT Message, WPARAM WParam, LPARAM LParam); to handle all the messages sent from the OS to the window, like keypresses and such. Im looking to do some reading on how the same system works in Linux. Maybe it is because I fall a bit short on the terminology but I fail to find anything on this through google (although Im sure there must be plenty!). Is it still just one single C function that handles all the communication? Does the function definition differ on different WMs (Gnome, KDE) or is it handled on a lower level in the OS? Edit: Ive looked into tools like QT and WxWidgets, but those frameworks seems to be geared more towards developing GUI extensive applications. Im rather looking for a way to create a basic window (restrict resize, borders/decorations) for my OGL graphics and retrieve input on more than one platform. And according to my initial research, this kind of function is the only way to retrieve that input. What would be the best route? Reading up, learning and then use QT or WxWidgets? Or learning how the systems work and implement those few basic features I want myself?

The receiving side however doesn't get the client-event. I was expecting my breakpoint in the callback to trigger... but it doesn't. I'm not even sure if a GtkWindow can receive a client-event... from past experience on X11 I thought it was pretty much the same as any other GtkWidget in that respect. Maybe on the win32 platform it's kinda different. But still I'd like to be able to get this working.

• VEMap and a GeoRSS feed(hosted separately)

  The scenario is as follows: A WCF web service exists that outputs a valid GeoRSS feed. This lives in its own domain as a number of different applications have access to it. A web page(on a different site) has been created with an instance of a VEMap(Bing/Virtual Earth map object). Now, VEMap can accept an input feed in this format via the following: var layer = new VEShapeLayer(); var veLayerSpec = new VEShapeSourceSpecification(VEDataType.GeoRSS, "someurl", layer); map.ImportShapeLayerData(veLayerSpec, onComplete, true); onComplete is a callback function I'm using to replace the default pin graphic with something custom. The question is in regards to "someurl", which is a path to a local xml file containing the geographic information(georss simple format). I've realized this feed and the map must be hosted in the same domain, so I've created a generic handler that reads the remote feed and returns it in the same format. var veLayerSpec = new VEShapeSourceSpecification(VEDataType.GeoRSS, "/somelocalhandler.ashx", layer); When I do this, I get the VEMap error("z is null"). This is the same error one would receive when trying to access a remote feed. When I copy the feed into a local xml file(ie, "feed.xml") there is no error. The order of operations is currently: remote feed - local handler - VEMap import If I'm over complicating this procedure, let me know! I'm a bit new to the Bing Maps API and might have missed something. Any assistance is appreciated.

• Change select's class based on selected option's class

  I have a page that contains numerous <select> elements. What I'm trying to achieve is to ensure that if a <select>'s selected <option> has a class called italic, then the <select> then has the italic class added (i.e. jQuery.addClass('italic')). If it doesn't, then the italic class is removed from the <select> to ensure other <option> elements are displayed correctly (i.e. jQuery.removeClass('italic')). What I'm noticing with most of my attempts is that either all the <select> have the italic class or that the italic class isn't being removed accordingly. Since I'm unsure my choice in selectors and callback logic are particularly sound or good practice in this instance (as I've been frustratingly trying to make it work) I've decided not to include the code I used in previous attempts. Instead, refer to this small HTML & CSS example: .italic { font-style: italic; } <select id="foo" name="foo" size="1" <option value="NA" selected="selected" - Select - </option <option value="1"Bar</option <option value="2"Fu</option <option value="3"Baz</option </select Also, I am aware that not all browsers support CSS styling of <select> and <option>.   I realise there are a couple of examples such as Maoki's Add Your Own Custom Map and Mike Williams' [link text][Google Maps API Tutorial] however I have looked at these and still end up with a Grey box. The API will not call my "getTileUrl" callback function. • NHibernate Session DI from StructureMap in components

  I know this is somewhat of a dead horse, but I'm not finding a satisfactory answer. First let me say, I am NOT dealing with a web app, otherwise managing NH Session is quite simple. I have a bunch of enterprise components. Those components have their own service layer that will act on multiple repositories. For example: Claim Component Claim Processing Service Claim Repository Billing Component Billing Service Billing REpository Policy Component PolicyLockService Policy Repository Now I may have a console, or windows application that needs to coordinate an operation that involves each of the services. I want to write the services to be injected with (DI) their required repositories. The Repositories should have an ISession, or similar, injected into them so that I can have this operation performed under one ISession/ITransaction. I'm aware of the Unit Of Work pattern and the many samples out there, but none of them showed DI. I'm also leery of [ThreadStatic] because this stuff can also be used from WCF and I have found enough posts describing how to do that. I've read about Business Conversations, but need something simple that each windows/console app can easily bootstrap since we have alot of these apps and some pretty inexperienced developers. So how can I configure StructureMap to inject the same ISession into each of the dependent repositories from an application? I decided to write the backend of the site using Python and mod_python on Apache. To authenticate the users, I thought I could use python_pam to query the PAM service. Looking at the query using Profiler, I do not see my addition to the insert command. Questions: 1) Why is my addition to the insert command not making its way to the sql being executed on the database? 2) Is there a simpler way to have my DataSet refreshed with the identity values of the inserted rows? 3) Should I use the OnRowUpdated callback to add my child records? • comparing strings from two different sources in javascript

  This is a bit of a specific request unfortunately. I have a CMS that allows a user to input text into a tinymce editor for various posts they have made. The editor is loaded via ajax to allow multiple posts to be edited from one page. I want to be able to check if there were edits made to the main text if cancel is clicked. Currently I get the value of the text from the database during the ajax call, json_encode it, then store it in a javascript variable during the callback, to be checked against later. When cancel is clicked the current value of the hidden textarea (used by tinymce to store the data for submission) is grabbed using jquery.val() and checked against the stored value from the previous ajax call like this: if(stored_value!=textarea.val()) { return true } It currently always returns true, even if no changes have been made. The issue seems to be that the textarea.val() uses html entities, whereas the ajax jsoned version doesn't. the response from ajax in firebug looks like this: <p>some text<\/p>\r\n<p>some more text<\/p> the textarea source code looks like this: &lt;p&gt;some text&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;some more text&lt;/p&gt; these are obviously different, but how can I get them to be treated as the same when evaluated? Is there a function that compares the final output of a string or a way to convert one string to the other using javascript? I tried using html entities in the ajax page, but this returned the string with html entities intact when alerted, I assume because json_encoding it turned them into characters. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Best strategy for moving data between physical tiers in ASP.net

  Building a new ASP.net application, and planning to separate DB, 'service' tier and Web/UI tier into separate physical layers. What is the best/easiest strategy to move serialized objects between the service tier and the UI tier? I was considering serializing POCOs into JSON using simple ASP.net pages to serve the middle tier. Meaning that the UI/Web tier will request data from a (hidden to the outside user) web server that will return a JSON string. This kind of JSON 'emitter' seems easily testable. It also seems easily compressible for efficiently moving data over the WAN between tiers. I know that some folks use .asmx webservices for this kind of task, but this seems like there is excess overhead with SOAP, and the package is not as human readable (testable) as POCOs serialized as JSON. Others are using more complex technology like WCF which we have never used. Does anyone have advice for choosing a method for moving data/objects between the data (db) tier and the web (UI) tier over the WAN using .net technologies? Thanks!!!
