  • Deleted windows partition, now I can't get into Ubuntu

    Back story: I installed ubuntu with wubi. I had windows on one NTFS partition, then I made a new NTFS partition in which I put wubi in and where My ubuntu OS was born. Eventually I moved /home into another partition and made a swap partition, but I digress. I deleted My original NTFS partition where windows is not thinking it would not matter but now I can't get into ubuntu. And the weird thing is that when I boot my computer I still see the option to boot into both windows and ubuntu. When I try to boot into windows, It tries to fix stuff and never succeds. When I try to boot into ubuntu, it shows me "cannot find GRLDR in all devices. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart". so, what do you guys think? I just want ubuntu running again, with all my stuff in /home there and all my system preferences how I like them.

  • cPAddons version conflict with Wordpress

    I have multiple users on my CentOS 5.7 server with WHM/cPanel, who have installed WordPress 3.2.1, and eventually did a manual update to 3.3.1, from Wordpress itself. Now the version of WP for those users doesn't match th one detected by cPanel, and of course, "Upgrade" doesn't work because the directory can't be cleaned (WP is already working there). I've looked on the .cpaddons folder of each user account, and there's a YAML file there, but I'm not sure how can I touch that file for solving this issue. Is there any way to tell cPanel that those WP installations are in fact, 3.3.1?

  • Sharing information between nodes in Beowulf Cluster

    I am setting up a beowulf cluster and I've been reading that it might be necessary to make the home directory of the cluster users shared between them (assuming this users are local to each machine). The other case is leave each user with its own home and the communication is up to the master node. Another idea that came up was to use an LDAP unique user logged on each machine in the cluster, that keeps the idea of the shared home between nodes (but is only one home of one user). Which approach is better for this kind of cluster? Edit: The cluster is running openmpi and it will support cuda and opencl

  • WPF DataGrid and Avalon TimePicker binding problem

    I'm using a the WPF DataGrid from the wpf toolkit and a TimePicker from AvalonControlsLibrary to insert a collection of TimeSpans. My problem is that bindings are not working inside the DataGrid, and I have no clue of why this isn't working.   • Equivalent of Bloch's Effective Java for C#

    I've jumped into the C# bandwagon and was wondering if there's an equivalent of Joshua Bloch's Effective Java for the C# world. I've already being able to apply some Java knowledge to C# given their similarity but I'm interested in knowledge to make the most effective use of C# specific features. For example, Generics are not implemented equally in Java and C#, so it's not clear to me if the Java Generic "techniques" will work in C# as well. I'm mostly interested in C# 3.0. That is (of course) unless you guys think I would benefit for looking into versions 1 and 2 features.

  • Which implementation of OrderedDict should be used in python2.6?

    As some of you may know in python2.7/3.2 we'll get OrderedDict with PEP372 however one of the reason the PEP existed was because everyone did their own implementation and they were all sightly incompatible. So which one of the 8 current implementations link text is backwards compatible with the 2.7 odict from python 2.7 in a way we can start using that now and depend on 2.7 in a couple of months?

    From PDB (Pdb) help l l(ist) [first [,last]] List source code for the current file. Without arguments, list 11 lines around the current line or continue the previous listing. With one argument, list 11 lines starting at that line. With two arguments, list the given range; if the second argument is less than the first, it is a count. The "continue the previous listing" feature is really nice, but how do you turn it off?

  • Getting past dates in HP-UX with ksh

    Ok, so I need to translate a script from a nice linux & bash configuration to ksh in hp-ux. Each and every command expects a different syntax and i want to kill myself. But let's skip the rant. This is part of my script anterior=`date +"%Y%0m" -d '1 month ago'` I basically need to get a past date in format 201002. Never mind the thing that, in the new environment, %0m means "no zeroes", while actually in the other one it means "yes, please put that zero on my string". It doesn't even accept the "1 month ago". I've read the man date for HP-UX and it seems you just can't do date arithmetic with it. I've been looking around for a while but all i find are lengthy solutions. I can't quite understand that such a typical administrative task like adding dates needs so much fuss. Isn't there a way to convert my one-liner to, well, i don't know, another one? Come on, i've seen proposed solutions that used bc, had thirty plus lines and magic number all over the script. The simplest solutions seem to use perl... but i don't know how to modify them, as they're quite arcane. Thanks!

  • Mathematica ListcontourPlot3D

    I have data in the form { {x,y,z,f}...} I am using ListContourPlot3D but all I get is an empty box with dimensions -1,1 in each direction. Here is my code: ListContourPlot3D[data5, PlotRange - All, AxesLabel - {"[Beta]", "[Omega]", "Vo"}, Contours - {1500}]. These are the first 5 points of my data:( the whole set has 55 points) {{200, 20000 10^(1/3), 2000, 1226}, {200, 20000 10^(1/3), 2600, 1422}, {200, 20000 10^(1/3), 3200, 1581}, {200, 20000 10^(1/3), 3800, 1761}, {200, 20000 10^(1/3), 4400, 1872}} Dimensions[data5] returns {55,4} If I do IntegerPart[data5] it does it correctly so it must recognize the numbers in my data.   • AS3: Array of objects parsed from XML remains with zero length

    I'm trying to parse an XML file and create an object array from its data. The data is converted to MediaAlbum classes (class of my own). The XML is parsed correctly and the object is loaded, but when I instantiate it, the Albums array is of zero length, even when the data is loaded correctly.     Hi. I'm building a location aware mobile application which uses GPS, but i'd like to be able to add cell location too. The best thing I have found so far is to use Google Gears, which has a location API available, but my application is not web based. Are there any good public cell id databases that can be accessed from any kind of application? I have found a few interesting projects out there like OpenCellID, but the database is very poor right now.

  • NSMutableDictionary with UIButton* as keys - iPhone development

    Hi, I'm new to iPhone development and I have a question that may have a very simple answer. I am trying to add buttons to a view and these buttons are associated with a custom class that I defined. When I add the buttons to the view, I would like to know what class these buttons correspond to. This is because when I press the button, I need to get some information about the class, but the receiver of the message is another class. I couldn't find information about an error that I'm getting on the web. The problem I have is that I'm trying to create an NSMutableDictionary where the keys are of type UIButton* and the values are of my custom type: // create button for unit UIButton* unitButton = [[UIButton alloc] init]; [sourceButtonMap setObject:composite forKey:unitButton]; Of course, the sourceButtonMap is defined in the class and initialized in the init function as sourceButtonMap = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; The error I get when I try to add the key-value pair is: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UIButton copyWithZone:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3931e90' Is this happening because I can't store UIButton* as keys?   • Flash Player scripting + IE8

    I've developed a small control bar for a Flash viewer generated by a third-party software. It has a First, Prev, Next & Last button, and a Zoom command. While Zoom works fine in all browsers, the navigation buttons seem to fail at Internet Explorer 8. I use at least two functions.   • How to manipulate *huge* amounts of data

    Hi there! I'm having the following problem. I need to store huge amounts of information (~32 GB) and be able to manipulate it as fast as possible. I'm wondering what's the best way to do it (combinations of programming language + OS + whatever you think its important). The structure of the information I'm using is a 4D array (NxNxNxN) of double-precission floats (8 bytes). Right now my solution is to slice the 4D array into 2D arrays and store them in separate files in the HDD of my computer. This is really slow and the manipulation of the data is unbearable, so this is no solution at all! I'm thinking on moving into a Supercomputing facility in my country and store all the information in the RAM, but I'm not sure how to implement an application to take advantage of it (I'm not a professional programmer, so any book/reference will help me a lot). An alternative solution I'm thinking on is to buy a dedicated server with lots of RAM, but I don't know for sure if that will solve the problem. So right now my ignorance doesn't let me choose the best way to proceed. What would you do if you were in this situation? I'm open to any idea. Thanks in advance!

  • Placement of a call to the parent method

    I have a class that has a method. That class has a child class that overrides that method. The child's method has to call the parent's method. In all OO that I've seen or written calls to the parent's version of the same method were on the first line of the method. On a project that I am working on circumstances call for placing that method call at the end of a method. Should I be worried? Is that a code smell?   • How do I identify an ASP.NET MVC website?

    I am trying to determine whether a company has websites built with ASP.NET MVC in their portfolio. Is there a reliable way of determining that without asking them assuming that I can visit the website in question in my browser? This might seem simple, but I wasn't able to find this information online. I would think that the lack of viewstate related stuff in the HTML source and the noun-verb URL structure would be good indicators. Are there any other indicators?
