- by Yucel
Umbraco CMS stripping ALT tags from images when content saved Umbraco is taking this < img alt="Your Title - for example Mr., Mrs., Ms." src="../media/21283/q16x16.gif" width="16" height="15" /> and turning it into this. If I alter the alt tag after this processing then the alt tag is saved.

• Remove Desktop entry from alt tab list

- by MichaelM
Hi I would like to know whether it is possible to remove the entry for desktop from Windows 7's alt-tab list? So far I have found a post telling me to add an entry to the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/AltTabSettings However, this reverts the alt-tab menu back to the Windows XP style, where you don't get window previews. All I really want is for the desktop entry to be gone. Cheers.

• WPF Focus In Tab Control Content When New Tab is Created

- by Phil Sandler
I've done a lot of searching on SO and google around this problem, but can't seem to find anything else to try. I have a MainView (window) that contains a tab control. The tab control binds to an ObservableCollection of ChildViews (user controls). The MainView's ViewModel has a method that allows adding to the collection of ChildViews, which then creates a new tab. When a new tab is created, it becomes the active tab, and this works fine. This method on the MainView is called from another ViewModel (OtherViewModel). What I am trying to do is set the keyboard focus to the first control on the tab (an AutoCompleteBox from WPFToolkit*) when a new tab is created. I also need to set the focus the same way, but WITHOUT creating a new tab (so set the focus on the currently active tab). (*Note that there seem to be some focus problems with the AutoCompleteBox--even if it does have focus you need to send a MoveNext() to it to get the cursor in its window. I have worked around this already). So here's the problem. The focusing works when I don't create a new tab, but it doesn't work when I do create a new tab. Both functions use the same method to set focus, but the create logic first calls the method that creates a new tab and sets it to active. Code that sets the focus (in the ChildView's Codebehind): IInputElement element1 = Keyboard.Focus(autoCompleteBox); //plus code to deal with AutoCompleteBox as noted. In either case, the Keyboard.FocusedElement starts out as the MainView. After a create, calling Keyboard.Focus seems to do nothing (focused element is still the MainView). Calling this without creating a tab correctly sets the keyboard focus to autoCompleteBox. Any ideas? Update: Bender's suggestion half-worked. So now in both cases, the focused element is correctly the AutoCompleteBox. What I then do is MoveNext(), which sets the focus to a TextBox. I have been assuming that this Textbox is internal to the AutoCompleteBox, as the focus was correctly set on screen when this happened. Now I'm not so sure. This is still the behavior I see when this code gets hit when NOT doing a create. After a create, MoveNext() sets the focus to an element back in my MainView. The problem must still be along the lines of Bender's answer, where the state of the controls is not the same depending on whether a new tab was created or not. Any other thoughts?

• Alt Tab with xdotool and xkeybind

- by Gary
I'm trying to map alt tab behavior to a mouse button using xdotool in my .xbindkeysrc. What I want to do is map something like "xdotools keydown alt key Tab" release b:7 but by doing this the alt key gets stuck, and it prevents my other mappings from working until I press the alt key on the keyboard. Is there a way to do this without having to press the alt key to get things unstuck? Without keydown it just switches back and forth between two windows, with keydown it behaves like I want (displaying the alt-tab switcher) but the alt key is stuck. Is there a way to unstick the key after using the alt tab switcher using xdotools?

• Alt-tab icon list in Gnome and metacity?

- by Vinh Nguyen
Can anyone provide a reference or explain how the icons to the alt-tab list is populated? I would like to specify some icons for some programs that do not have icons, e.g. xterm. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 with Gnome 2 (Ubuntu Classic) and metacity as the window manager. I did see this thread that mentions /usr/share/pixmap/, but if I use cp gnome-terminal.xpm xterm.xpm the icon was not populated in the alt-tab icon list (even after a logout/login). I do see that the icon is populated when I added the xterm command to the Program Menu.

• 12.04 - Disable the HUD trigger key [ALT] in Emacs & Terminal

- by EoghanM
An answer on How to disable HUD in Unity 2D? points to https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/947613 where the ALT key will be made reconfigurable. Apart from emacs usage, I'm reasonably happy with using the ALT key to bring up the HUD. While using emacs though, the ALT key is tapped frequently to invoke commands. Should emacs be special cased with respect to the ALT key? I'm wondering what the situation is with games; surely lots of games repurpose the ALT key for their own use, e.g. to fire a weapon? If so, could the same be applied to Emacs, i.e. prevent the ALT key in emacs from triggering the HUD. Edit: just realized how extensively I use the ALT key in the terminal: a quick tap of ALT+B to move back a word loses focus of the terminal and brings up the HUD. Aghch

• Ext JS Tab Panel - Dynamic Tabs - Tab Exists Not Working

- by Joey Ezekiel
Hi Would appreciate if somebody could help me on this. I have a Tree Panel whose nodes when clicked load a tab into a tab panel. The tabs are loading alright, but my problem is duplication. I need to check if a tab exists before adding it to the tab panel. I cant seem to have this resolved and it is eating my brains. This is pretty simple and I have checked stackoverflow and the EXT JS Forums for solutions but they dont seem to work for me or I'm being blind. This is my code for the tree: var opstree = new Ext.tree.TreePanel({ renderTo: 'opstree', border:false, width: 250, height: 'auto', useArrows: false, animate: true, autoScroll: true, dataUrl: 'libs/tree-data.json', root: { nodeType: 'async', text: 'Tool Actions' }, listeners: { render: function() { this.getRootNode().expand(); } } }) opstree.on('click', function(n){ var sn = this.selModel.selNode || {}; // selNode is null on initial selection renderPage(n.id); }); function renderPage(tabId) { var TabPanel = Ext.getCmp('content-tab-panel'); var tab = TabPanel.getItem(tabId); //Ext.MessageBox.alert('TabGet',tab); if(tab){ TabPanel.setActiveTab(tabId); } else{ TabPanel.add({ title: tabId, html: 'Tab Body ' + (tabId) + '', closable:true }).show(); TabPanel.doLayout(); } } }); and this is the code for the Tab Panel new Ext.TabPanel({ id:'content-tab-panel', region: 'center', deferredRender: false, enableTabScroll:true, activeTab: 0, items: [{ contentEl: 'about', title: 'About the Billing Ops Application', closable: true, autoScroll: true, margins: '0 0 0 0' },{ contentEl: 'welcomescreen', title: 'PBRT Application Home', closable: false, autoScroll: true, margins: '0 0 0 0' }] }) Can somebody please help?

• Is there any program or way to make Mac OS X's ?-tab behave like Windows' alt-tab?

- by J. Pablo Fernández
Is there any program or way to make Mac OS X's ?(command)-tab behave like Windows' alt-tab? That is, instead of switching between applications, to switch between windows of all applications. I do know there's a way to switch between windows of the same application, but that's not what I want either. I'm not just trying to make Mac OS X behave like my recent former OS, I've been a Mac user for over two years and before that Ubuntu. After using Expose and ?-tab I think Windows' or Ubuntu's alt-tab is better.

• Applications randomly alt-tab? (especially full screen games)

- by Henry Scotts
I'm not sure when this began, how it happens, or why it happens, but it is quite bothersome and apparently random. Just randomly throughout the day my computer will just go to the desktop. I could be in a full screen game and it will just immediately alt tab and present the desktop. Or I could be watching a movie and this happens. Sometimes it happens once every three hours and other times (just today actually) it did it twice in the span of 30 seconds. I am positive I am not pressing a hotkey because I launched a game, sat idle, and noticed it alt tab while cleaning up around my room after about 20 minutes. Sometimes it goes days without this happening. Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, 10 gigs of RAM, GeForce GTX 260, Intel Xeon CPU. I also have basically nothing running when it happens other than the game and FireFox. My FireFox add-ons: Adblock Plus, Download Statusbar, Firebug, FirePHP, lazarus form recovery, tree-style-tabs, yslow. I doubt FireFox is causing the issue but I figured I'd include it anyway because it is the only application I have running when it happens. As for user processes I have running: VCDDaemon (context menu for virtual clone drive), razerhid (mouse), OSD, taskhost, dmw (desktop window manager), anyfullscreengame, audiorepeater, netsession_win, explorer, razerofa, tsvncache, firefox, plugin-container, and EKIJ5000MUI (printer). Whew. Okay. That was a lot of information. If someone could diagnose this I would be most grateful for this has been around with me for years.. Thanks for reading! PS: I doubt it's a virus because I never download illegal software and pretty much only browse Reddit and Stackexchange and play games. If it was a virus it would be a pretty lame one.. Hah..

• Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesn't unlock PC when VMPlayer is on

- by NealWalters
My desktop XP OS gets locked after I leave for x minutes. I have VMPlayer occupying full screen mode. I think the keyboard is redirected to VMWare. I press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and outer-machine XP is not unlocking. I think maybe keyboard is going to VMWare, because this seems to only happen when I have VMWare running. How do I unlock XP? Is there some magic key sequence?

• controlling how UltraVNC handles ALT+TAB

- by Michael
Most of the time it ignores it and I am able to switch away from UltraVNC to another application. I like this behavior. However, occasionally it gets into a mode where - for no discernable reason - it passes the Alt+Tab to the remote host which is incredibly annoying as I am used to the other behavior and suddenly I have no keyboard shortcut to switch to a different local windows. Since it appears to exhibit both behaviors, I assume there is some way to control which behavior is in use, but I haven't been able to find it

• Access a view inside a tab navigator when a tab is clicked

- by magnus.lassi
Hi, I I have a view in Flex 3 where I use a tab navigator and a number of views inside the tab navigator. I need to be know which view was clicked because of it's one specific view then I need to take action, i.e. if view with id "secondTab" is clicked then do something. I have set it up to be notified, my problem is that I need to be able to know what view it is. Calling tab.GetChildByName or a similar method seems to only get me back a TabSkin object.  <mx:VBox xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" width="100%" height="100%" xmlns:local="*" creationComplete="onCreationComplete(event)"> <mx:Script>  import mx.events.FlexEvent; import mx.controls.Button; protected function onCreationComplete(event:Event):void { for(var i:int = 0; i < myTN.getChildren().length; i++) { var tab:Button = myTN.getTabAt(i); tab.addEventListener(FlexEvent.BUTTON_DOWN, tabClickHandler); } } private function tabClickHandler(event:FlexEvent):void { var tab:Button; if(event.currentTarget is Button) { tab = event.currentTarget as Button; // how do I access the actual view hosted in a tab that was clicked? } }  </mx:Script> <mx:TabNavigator id="myTN"> <local:ProductListView id="firstTab" label="First Tab" width="100%" height="100%" /> <local:ProductListView id="secondTab" label="Second Tab" width="100%" height="100%" /> </mx:TabNavigator> </mx:VBox>

• Suppress task switch keys (winkey, alt-tab, alt-esc, ctrl-esc) using low-level keyboard hook

- by matt
I'm trying to suppress task switch keys (such as winkey, alt-tab, alt-esc, ctrl-esc, etc.) by using a low-level keyboard hook. I'm using the following LowLevelKeyboardProc callback: IntPtr HookCallback(int nCode, IntPtr wParam, ref KBDLLHOOKSTRUCT lParam) { if (nCode >= 0) { bool suppress = false; // Suppress left and right windows keys. if (lParam.Key == VK_LWIN || lParam.Key == VK_RWIN) suppress = true; // Suppress alt-tab. if (lParam.Key == VK_TAB && HasAltModifier(lParam.Flags)) suppress = true; // Suppress alt-escape. if (lParam.Key == VK_ESCAPE && HasAltModifier(lParam.Flags)) suppress = true; // Suppress ctrl-escape. /* How do I hook CTRL-ESCAPE ? */ // Suppress keys by returning 1. if (suppress) return new IntPtr(1); } return CallNextHookEx(HookID, nCode, wParam, ref lParam); } bool HasAltModifier(int flags) { return (flags & 0x20) == 0x20; } However, I'm at a loss as to how to suppress the CTRL-ESC combination. Any suggestions? Thanks.

• Android - Switching Activities with a Tab Layout

- by Bill Osuch
This post is based on the Tab Layout tutorial on the Android developers site, with some modifications. I wanted to get rid of the icons (they take up too much screen real estate), and modify the fonts on the tabs. First, create a new Android project, with an Activity called TabWidget. Then, create two additional Activities called TabOne and TabTwo. Throw a simple TextView on each one with a message identifying the tab, like this: public class TabTwo extends Activity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); TextView tv = new TextView(this); tv.setText("This is tab 2"); setContentView(tv); } } And don't forget to add them to your AndroidManifest.xml file: <activity android:name=".TabOne"></activity> <activity android:name=".TabTwo"></activity> Now we'll create the tab layout - open the res/layout/main.xml file and insert the following: <TabHost xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@android:id/tabhost" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TabWidget android:id="@android:id/tabs" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> <FrameLayout android:id="@android:id/tabcontent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> </LinearLayout> </TabHost> Finally, we'll create the code needed to populate the TabHost. Make sure your TabWidget class extends TabActivity rather than Activity, and add code to grab the TabHost and create an Intent to launch a new Activity: TabHost tabHost = getTabHost(); // The activity TabHost TabHost.TabSpec spec; // Reusable TabSpec for each tab Intent intent; // Reusable Intent for each tab // Create an Intent to launch an Activity for the tab (to be reused) intent = new Intent().setClass(this, TabOne.class); Add the first tab to the layout: // Initialize a TabSpec for each tab and add it to the TabHost spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("tabOne"); spec.setContent(intent); spec.setIndicator("Tab One"); tabHost.addTab(spec); It's pretty tall as-is, so we'll shorten it: // Squish the tab a little bit horizontally tabHost.getTabWidget().getChildAt(0).getLayoutParams().height = 40; But the text is a little small, so let's increase the font size: // Bump the text size up LinearLayout ll = (LinearLayout) tabHost.getChildAt(0); android.widget.TabWidget tw = (android.widget.TabWidget) ll.getChildAt(0); RelativeLayout rllf = (RelativeLayout) tw.getChildAt(0); TextView lf = (TextView) rllf.getChildAt(1); lf.setTextSize(20); Do the same for the second tab, and you wind up with this: @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); TabHost tabHost = getTabHost(); // The activity TabHost TabHost.TabSpec spec; // Reusable TabSpec for each tab Intent intent; // Reusable Intent for each tab // Create an Intent to launch an Activity for the tab (to be reused) intent = new Intent().setClass(this, TabOne.class); // Initialize a TabSpec for each tab and add it to the TabHost spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("tabOne"); spec.setContent(intent); spec.setIndicator("Tab One"); tabHost.addTab(spec); // Squish the tab a little bit horizontally tabHost.getTabWidget().getChildAt(0).getLayoutParams().height = 40; // Bump the text size up LinearLayout ll = (LinearLayout) tabHost.getChildAt(0); android.widget.TabWidget tw = (android.widget.TabWidget) ll.getChildAt(0); RelativeLayout rllf = (RelativeLayout) tw.getChildAt(0); TextView lf = (TextView) rllf.getChildAt(1); lf.setTextSize(20); // Do the same for the other tabs intent = new Intent().setClass(this, TabTwo.class); spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("tabTwo"); spec.setContent(intent); spec.setIndicator("Tab Two"); tabHost.addTab(spec); tabHost.getTabWidget().getChildAt(1).getLayoutParams().height = 40; RelativeLayout rlrf = (RelativeLayout) tw.getChildAt(1); TextView rf = (TextView) rlrf.getChildAt(1); rf.setTextSize(20); tabHost.setCurrentTab(0); } Save and fire up the emulator, and you should be able to switch back and forth between your tabs!

• Getting back the old alt-tab windows switching behavior in Windows 7?

- by Carlos A. Ibarra
When you run more than 6 applications on Windows 7 and you press alt-TAB, icons representing the first 6 applications and the desktop appear on the first row of the grid and you can cycle with alt-TAB-TAB... through the 6 most recently used windows the usual way, but the 7th and other less recently used windows don't follow the same rules. Instead they get grouped together according to their application but disregarding whether they were recently used or not. This new behavior is mentioned here. I am very used to the old way of cycling and the new system is driving me crazy. I tend to have 20 or so windows open at one time and I frequently need to alt-tab to the 7th or 8th window on the stack but it doesn't work the same anymore. Does anyone know how to put back the old behavior, so that alt-tab-tab-tab... goes through the whole list in most-recent to least-recent order?

• Updating FGLRX driver fails & deactivates FGLRX driver

• Could multiple uses of the same keywords in image alt attributes hurt SEO?

- by saratogahiker
Let's say on an e-commerce site that sells unique pens, on a particular pen's product page, the image of the pen has an alt attribute value of "unique red-striped pen"... and another product has "unique blue-spotted pen", etc... The keywords across all products being "unique" and "pen", which would also be helpful when it comes to SEO. However, if the person just goes to the general "unique pens" category page and sees a list of thumbnail images, each with the words "unique" and "pen" in the alt attribute, would that potentially have a negative impact with regards to SEO by having the same keywords too many times?

Is there any event with tab control that we can use to identify dirty data on the previous tab that i may have visited. I mean can i prevent user from navigating to some other tab before saving the changes on current tab.

• why is the alt attribute not always properly displayed

- by Piero
So I have this php script that output an html table with data about some files (like filename, filesize, etc...) I have this javascript function that displays the picture when you hover a tag belonging to the class "preview". For example, if a filename is: somePic.jpg, when you hover somePic.jpg in the table, the picture will appear next to your mouse. Now not all these files are pictures, some are .mp3, so of course when you hover them, the javascript cannot display the picture. To deal with this case, I added in the tag (generated by the javascript function), an alt attribute: alt='Preview not available for this type of content.' And here is my problem, sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn't! Sometimes you start hovering .mp3 links, and the alt attribute is displayed, then you hover a picture, the picture is displayed, then you hover an .mp3 again, and the alt isn't displayed anymore, but the "broken image" image (the little red cross) is displayed instead... Sure I could parse the filenames and detect when it's an mp3 and then deal with the case, but I thought the alt attribute was suppose to achieve this... but it's buggy... Any idea? Does anyone already faced this problem?

• Safari doesn't display 'alt' text on Images?

- by Nimbuz
Safari doesn't seem to show 'alt' text in case the image is not loaded. I'm not sure about other browsers, but Firefox does show the alternate text. Its so important to display alt text in email templates where the images would be blocked by the client most likely, atleast until the user accepts to "display images from this user/site". Any workaround for this? Thanks
