  • Speeding up a search .net 4.0

    - by user231465
    Wondering if I can speed up the search. I need to build a functionality that has to be used by many UI screens The one I have got works but I need to make sure I am implementing a fast algoritim if you like It's like an incremental search. User types a word to search for eg const string searchFor = "Guinea"; const char nextLetter = ' ' It looks in the list and returns 2 records "Guinea and Guinea Bissau " User types a word to search for eg const string searchFor = "Gu"; const char nextLetter = 'i' returns 3 results. This is the function but I would like to speed it up. Is there a pattern for this kind of search? class Program { static void Main() { //Find all countries that begin with string + a possible letter added to it //const string searchFor = "Guinea"; //const char nextLetter = ' '; //returns 2 results const string searchFor = "Gu"; const char nextLetter = 'i'; List<string> result = FindPossibleMatches(searchFor, nextLetter); result.ForEach(x=>Console.WriteLine(x)); //returns 3 results Console.Read(); } /// <summary> /// Find all possible matches /// </summary> /// <param name="searchFor">string to search for</param> /// <param name="nextLetter">pretend user as just typed a letter</param> /// <returns></returns> public static List<string> FindPossibleMatches (string searchFor, char nextLetter) { var hashedCountryList = new HashSet<string>(CountriesList()); var result=new List<string>(); IEnumerable<string> tempCountryList = hashedCountryList.Where(x => x.StartsWith(searchFor)); foreach (string item in tempCountryList) { string tempSearchItem; if (nextLetter == ' ') { tempSearchItem = searchFor; } else { tempSearchItem = searchFor + nextLetter; } if(item.StartsWith(tempSearchItem)) { result.Add(item); } } return result; } /// <summary> /// Returns list of countries. /// </summary> public static string[] CountriesList() { return new[] { "Afghanistan", "Albania", "Algeria", "American Samoa", "Andorra", "Angola", "Anguilla", "Antarctica", "Antigua And Barbuda", "Argentina", "Armenia", "Aruba", "Australia", "Austria", "Azerbaijan", "Bahamas", "Bahrain", "Bangladesh", "Barbados", "Belarus", "Belgium", "Belize", "Benin", "Bermuda", "Bhutan", "Bolivia", "Bosnia Hercegovina", "Botswana", "Bouvet Island", "Brazil", "Brunei Darussalam", "Bulgaria", "Burkina Faso", "Burundi", "Byelorussian SSR", "Cambodia", "Cameroon", "Canada", "Cape Verde", "Cayman Islands", "Central African Republic", "Chad", "Chile", "China", "Christmas Island", "Cocos (Keeling) Islands", "Colombia", "Comoros", "Congo", "Cook Islands", "Costa Rica", "Cote D'Ivoire", "Croatia", "Cuba", "Cyprus", "Czech Republic", "Czechoslovakia", "Denmark", "Djibouti", "Dominica", "Dominican Republic", "East Timor", "Ecuador", "Egypt", "El Salvador", "England", "Equatorial Guinea", "Eritrea", "Estonia", "Ethiopia", "Falkland Islands", "Faroe Islands", "Fiji", "Finland", "France", "Gabon", "Gambia", "Georgia", "Germany", "Ghana", "Gibraltar", "Great Britain", "Greece", "Greenland", "Grenada", "Guadeloupe", "Guam", "Guatemela", "Guernsey", "Guiana", "Guinea", "Guinea Bissau", "Guyana", "Haiti", "Heard Islands", "Honduras", "Hong Kong", "Hungary", "Iceland", "India", "Indonesia", "Iran", "Iraq", "Ireland", "Isle Of Man", "Israel", "Italy", "Jamaica", "Japan", "Jersey", "Jordan", "Kazakhstan", "Kenya", "Kiribati", "Korea, South", "Korea, North", "Kuwait", "Kyrgyzstan", "Lao People's Dem. • Where to specify line height for sIFR

    - by Darren
    I have not had any luck changing the line height for sIFR. I have tried changing the sIFR css and config file as well as my general style sheet. Is there a special trick? GENERAL CSS h1 { font-family: Georgia, Times, serif; font-size: 24px; font-style: normal; line-height: 16px; (has had zero impact, even when I go negative) color: #000000; text-transform: uppercase; margin: 0; padding: 0; outline: none; } CONFIG FILE sIFR.replace(minionpro, { selector: 'h1', wmode: 'transparent', css: '.sIFR-root { color:#000000; text-transform: uppercase; }' });

  • jQuery val not working properly in Chrome

    - by Mircea
    I have a simple jQuery function: $('#selectable1 span').live('mousedown', function() { var ff = $(this).css("font-family"); $("#family").val(ff); }); When a span element is clicked (mousedown) an input (#family) gets its font family value. It works in FireFox but in Chrome it works only for font families composed from only one word. Georgia will work but Times New Roman will now. You can see the code here: http://jsfiddle.net/aLaGa/ or live at http://www.typefolly.com What is wrong with this? Thanx

  • How to occupy all the space in a div when working with min-height header / footer

    - by javacoder
    I believe this is a beginner's CSS question. I am utilizing the method described in http://www.xs4all.nl/~peterned/examples/csslayout1.html to fix a header to the top and a footer to the bottom. What I'd like to achieve now is two columns inside the content div. A left one of 200px and a right one that takes up the rest of the width. Unfortunately, I can't get the left and right divs to display correctly: they just don't grow vertically, and if I make the right div "width: 100%" it positions itself underneath the left one. What is the trick to make the left and right div take up all the space within the content div? The layout1.css is the original one. I just added two entries: #left and #right layout1.css: /** * 100% height layout with header and footer * ---------------------------------------------- * Feel free to copy/use/change/improve */ html,body { margin: 0; padding: 0; height: 100%; /* needed for container min-height */ background: gray; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small; color: #666; } h1 { font: 1.5em georgia, serif; margin: 0.5em 0; } h2 { font: 1.25em georgia, serif; margin: 0 0 0.5em; } h1,h2,a { color: orange; } p { line-height: 1.5; margin: 0 0 1em; } div#container { position: relative; /* needed for footer positioning*/ margin: 0 auto; /* center, not in IE5 */ width: 750px; background: #f0f0f0; height: auto !important; /* real browsers */ height: 100%; /* IE6: treaded as min-height*/ min-height: 100%; /* real browsers */ } div#header { padding: 1em; background: #ddd url("../csslayout.gif") 98% 10px no-repeat; border-bottom: 6px double gray; } div#header p { font-style: italic; font-size: 1.1em; margin: 0; } div#content { padding: 1em 1em 5em; /* bottom padding for footer */ } div#content p { text-align: justify; padding: 0 1em; } div#footer { position: absolute; width: 100%; bottom: 0; /* stick to bottom */ background: #ddd; border-top: 6px double gray; } div#footer p { padding: 1em; margin: 0; } // added the following: div#left { border: 1px solid red; width: 200px; float: left; min-height: 100%; height: 100%; padding-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px; } div#right { border: 1px solid blue; float: left; min-height: 100%; height: 100%; padding-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px; } layout.html: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <title>CSS Layout - 100% height</title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="layout1.css" /> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="header"> <h1>header</h1> </div> <div id="content"> <div id="left"> left column </div> <div id="right"> right column </div> </div> <div id="footer"> <p> footer </p> </div> </div> </body>

  • CSS - how can I handle the size difference between serif and sans-serif fonts?

    - by orbit82
    I'm working on a WordPress that will allow the site administrator to switch between sans-serif and serif fonts. I'm trying to code the stylesheet in such a way that the font sizes are similar whether or not they choose Georgia vs Arial. The problem is that when I have it looking nice with a serif font, it looks WAY too big when in sans-serif. When I then adjust it to look nice in a sans-serif font, it looks WAY too small in serif. Is there an ideal font size and line-height that works well with both serif and sans-serif? Or do I need to make separate stylesheets (a serf version and a sans-serif version)? P.S. I've set a base font size on the body at 12px, and then set the rest of the font sizes as a percentage of the base. Of course, this base font size could be set in ems or in percent, because the percentages will still scale proportionally.

  • Does Java Mac OSX native look and feel respect UIManager font changes?

    - by Erik Lickerman
    I have a java applet and the only look and feel that works properly is the native mac one. I wanted to make the fonts a bit larger and tried using the standard UIManager methods UIManager.put("Label.font", new Font("Georgia", Font.PLAIN, 18)); This produces no change. It does not throw an exception, of course. Does anyone know if the native mac look and feel ignores these? I know there are specific ways to make controls different sizes on mac but these only seem to make them smaller. You cannot make the controls larger than regular.

  • Patching Synaptics Driver In Ubuntu

    - by danben
    I've got an HP Envy with the new Synaptics Clickpad - the device is not supported out of the box by Ubuntu, so I downloaded this patch (https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/67335/), applied it to synaptics.c in the linux kernel source, rebuilt the kernel and booted from it. Nothing changed. I'm new to Linux and don't know much about driver configuration; how can I check that the newly-produced synaptics.o file is actually being used somewhere? Or if it is obvious, what step did I leave out? Separately, I tried following the instructions in this thread: http://georgia.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8989185&postcount=11 There, someone posted the patch along with a Makefile and instructions for installation. When I followed those, my mouse stopped working altogether. Not desirable, but at least I know it had some effect. The Makefile is posted below; I get the gist of what it's doing, but don't have enough knowledge to figure out why it would cause the device to stop responding entirely. obj-m := psmouse.o psmouse-objs := psmouse-base.o synaptics.o psmouse-$(CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_ALPS) += alps.o psmouse-$(CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_ELANTECH) += elantech.o psmouse-$(CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_OLPC) += hgpk.o psmouse-$(CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_LOGIPS2PP) += logips2pp.o psmouse-$(CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_LIFEBOOK) += lifebook.o psmouse-$(CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_TRACKPOINT) += trackpoint.o psmouse-$(CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2_TOUCHKIT) += touchkit_ps2.o KDIR := /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build PWD := $(shell pwd) default: $(MAKE) -C $(KDIR) SUBDIRS=$(PWD) modules install: @cp psmouse.ko /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/kernel/drivers/input/mouse/

  • 100% height with fixed footer and embedded Google Map

    - by Carl
    I have a problem with a layout - it's not online anywhere, just local, but if you copy and paste the code below into an html page and run it locally you will see the same page I do. It's very nearly there. What I'm trying to achieve is a page with no scrollbars using up all available vertical space. Yes, I can set "overflow:hidden" on the container declaration and that helps, but it's not quite right. I want to actually have the google map surrounded with a 1em border. I have this on 3 sides but the 100% height declaration on the content div crashes the bottom border. If you don't realise the implications of a percentage-sized google map div, then the parent HAS to have a height declared for it to work. As the footer is absolute and outside of the flow, there is no "bottom" border to work to and the layout just doesn't work. The content div 100% height basically seems to take its size from the viewport and not the containing div. It's driving me mad... just can't seem to work out how to do this and I'd really appreciate some input. Start here: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head><title>Google map test</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false"></script> <style type="text/css"> html,body { margin:0; padding:0; height:100%; /* needed for container min-height */ background:fff; font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:small; color:#666; } h1 { font:1.5em georgia,serif; margin:0.5em 0; } h2 { font:1.25em georgia,serif; margin:0 0 0.5em; } div#container { position:relative; /* needed for footer positioning*/ margin:0 auto; /* center, not in IE5 */ width:960px; background:#fff; border-left:1px solid #ccc; border-right:1px solid #ccc; /*height:auto !important; real browsers */ height:100%; /* IE6: treaded as min-height*/ min-height:100%; /* real browsers */ } div#header { border-bottom:1px solid #ccc; border-left:1em solid #ccc; height:108px; position:relative; } div#header h1 { position:absolute; bottom: 0; left:0.5em; } div#header2 { border-bottom:1px solid #ccc; border-left:1em solid #999; height: 40px; position: relative; } div#header2 p { position:absolute; bottom: 0; left:0.5em; } div#headerInternal { border-bottom:1px solid #ccc; border-left:1em solid #cc3300; height: 40px; position: relative; } div#headerInternal p { position:absolute; bottom: 0; left:0.5em; } div#headerInternal2 { height: 40px; position: relative; } div#headerInternal2 p { position:absolute; bottom: 0; left:0.5em; } div#rightCol { float:right; width:29%; padding-bottom:5em; /* bottom padding for footer */ } div#content { float:left; width:70%; height:100%; /* fill that hole! */ border-right:1px solid #ccc; } div#content p { } div#footer { position:absolute; clear:both; width:100%; height:40px; bottom:0; /* stick to bottom */ background:#fff; border-top:1px solid #ccc; } div#footer p { padding:1em; margin:0; } .paddedContent { height:100%; margin: 1em; } </style> <script type="text/javascript"> function initialize() { var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(52.397, 1.644); var myOptions = { zoom: 8, center: latlng, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP }; var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions); } </script> </head> <body onload="initialize()"> <div id="container"> <div id="header"> <h1>Title here...</h1> </div> <div id="header2"> <p>Secondary menu...</p> </div> <div id="rightCol"> <div id="headerInternal2"> <p>Right Header</p> </div> <p class="paddedContent">This is the right column</p> </div> <div id="content"> <div id="headerInternal"> <p>Page Context Menu</p> </div> <div class="paddedContent"> <div id="map_canvas" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;"></div> </div> <div id="footer"> <p>This footer is absolutely positioned</p> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html>

    - by user1669878
    I have been going crazy trying to figure out why there is extra padding showing up on my navigation buttons when I rollover them. It's only showing up to the left and right of them though. The focus of my talk was Mobile Technology in Human Resources, and while still a new and developing area, the enormous growth and ubiquitous presence of mobile devices and increasing importance of and demand for constant connectivity in both our personal and professional lives has put planning and developing a mobile HR technology strategy high on many organizations lists of priorities in 2012. Numerous studies have shown that the confluence of ever-rising sales of smartphones and tablets; and the increasing tendency for workers of all kinds to be more mobile and less tied down to traditional, fixed-location workplaces and what now seem like old-fashioned PC-centric and traditional computing environments are driving Human Resources leaders to think about how, where, when, and for whom that the deployment of mobile HR solutions will help them address their business needs, and put information in the hands of those that need it, when they need it, and on their preferred devices. In the session we talked about some of the potential opportunities for mobile HR technologies, from simple workflow-based approval capability, to employee directories and robust employee profiles, to more advanced use cases like internal social networking and location-based mobile recruiting applications. And truly we are just scratching the surface of the potential and the value that all kinds of HR-related mobile technologies will help deliver to enterprises in the coming years. Additionally, it was encouraging to talk with many of the HR leaders in attendance who expressed interest in these kinds of mobile HR technology opportunities, as well as to hear how some of them are already working on developing their own mobile strategies or experimenting with mobile solutions in their workforces. It was a fantastic meeting and I’d like to express my thanks to Kim Bryant, IHRIM Atlanta/SE Board President, the other board members, and also the IHRIM Atlanta Chapter members and attendees at the event. If you are in the Atlanta area and are interested in HR and HR Technology, you can learn more about the programs and services that the Chapter has to offer at their website - http://www.ihrimatlantase.org/. And for people that are interested in what we at Oracle are working on in mobile, you can also sign up to receive the latest updates about the Oracle Fusion Applications tablet solutions, Oracle Fusion Tap, at https://fusiontap.oracle.com/.

  • Can I Specify Strings for MySql Table Values?

    - by afterimagedesign
    I have a MySql table that stores the users state and city from a list of states and cities. I specifically coded each state as their two letter shortened version (like WA for Washington and CA for California) and every city has the two letter abbreviation and the city name formated like this: Boulder Colorado would be CO-boulder and Salt Lake City, Utah would be UT-salt-lake-city as to avoid different states with same city name. The PHP inserts the value (UT-salt-lake-city) under the column City, but when I call the variable through PHP, it displays like this: Your location is: UT-salt-lake-city, Utah. To solve this, I've been making this list of variables if ($city == "AL-auburn") { $city = "Auburn"; } else if ($city == "AL-birmingham") { $city = "Birmingham"; } else if ($city == "GA-columbus") { $city = "Columbus"; $state = "Georgia"; } else if ($city == "AL-dothan") { $city = "Dothan"; } else if ($city == "AL-florence") { $city = "Forence"; } else if ($city == "AL-muscle-shoals") { $city = "Muscle Shoals"; } else if ($city == "AL-gadsden-anniston") { $city = "Gadsden Anniston"; } else if ($city == "AL-huntsville") { $city = "Huntsville"; } else if ($city == "AL-decatur") { $city = "Decatur"; } else if ($city == "AL-mobile") { $city = "Mobile"; } else if ($city == "AL-montgomery") { $city = "Montgomery"; } else if ($city == "AL-tuscaloosa") { $city = "Tuscaloosa"; } Is there a way I can shorten this process or at least call it from a separate file so I don't have to copy/paste every time I want to call the location?

  • GWT UiBinder doesn't load the stylesheet

    - by halish
    I wanted to make a GWT widget using UiBinder. So I made: UserPanel.ui.xml like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <ui:UiBinder xmlns:ui='urn:ui:com.google.gwt.uibinder' xmlns:g='urn:import:com.google.gwt.user.client.ui'> <ui:with field="res" type="com.example.resources.UserPanelResources" /> <g:VerticalPanel styleNames='{res.userpanel.main}'> ...some other widgets go here... </g:VerticalPanel> </ui:UiBinder> UserPanel.css like this: .main { width: 1000px; background-color: #f9f9fa; padding: 15px 10px; font-family: "Georgia"; } and UserPanelResources.java like: public interface UserPanelResources extends ClientBundle { public interface UserPanelCss extends CssResource { String main(); } @Source("css/userpanel.css") UserPanelCss userpanel(); } All the files and packages are in their place, as everything compiles just fine. But when I run the Development Mode, the styles are not applied! I tried many different approaches, but it still doesn't work. What I noticed, is that in the HTML, the VerticalPanel is given the class name obfuscated by GWT, but the CSS is not send to the browser - in fact, the GWT doesn't even ask for it. Am I missing something?

  • How to keep text inside a circle using Cairo?

    - by miguelrios
    I a drawing a graph using Cairo (pycairo specifically) and I need to know how can I draw text inside a circle without overlapping it, by keeping it inside the bounds of the circle. I have this simple code snippet that draws a letter "a" inside the circle: ''' Created on May 8, 2010 @author: mrios ''' import cairo, math WIDTH, HEIGHT = 1000, 1000 #surface = cairo.PDFSurface ("/Users/mrios/Desktop/exampleplaces.pdf", WIDTH, HEIGHT) surface = cairo.ImageSurface (cairo.FORMAT_ARGB32, WIDTH, HEIGHT) ctx = cairo.Context (surface) ctx.scale (WIDTH/1.0, HEIGHT/1.0) # Normalizing the canvas ctx.rectangle(0, 0, 1, 1) # Rectangle(x0, y0, x1, y1) ctx.set_source_rgb(255,255,255) ctx.fill() ctx.arc(0.5, 0.5, .4, 0, 2*math.pi) ctx.set_source_rgb(0,0,0) ctx.set_line_width(0.03) ctx.stroke() ctx.arc(0.5, 0.5, .4, 0, 2*math.pi) ctx.set_source_rgb(0,0,0) ctx.set_line_width(0.01) ctx.set_source_rgb(255,0,255) ctx.fill() ctx.set_source_rgb(0,0,0) ctx.select_font_face("Georgia", cairo.FONT_SLANT_NORMAL, cairo.FONT_WEIGHT_BOLD) ctx.set_font_size(1.0) x_bearing, y_bearing, width, height = ctx.text_extents("a")[:4] print ctx.text_extents("a")[:4] ctx.move_to(0.5 - width / 2 - x_bearing, 0.5 - height / 2 - y_bearing) ctx.show_text("a") surface.write_to_png ("/Users/mrios/Desktop/node.png") # Output to PNG The problem is that my labels have variable amount of characters (with a limit of 20) and I need to set the size of the font dynamically. It must fit inside the circle, no matter the size of the circle nor the size of the label. Also, every label has one line of text, no spaces, no line breaks. Any suggestion?

  • CSS selector involving pseudo class first-child and dropcap

    - by Grnbeagle
    Hi, I need to format HTML similar to below. Basically a quote is optional, and I need to dropcap the first letter of the body paragraph. <article> <p class="quote"> <!-- quote is optional --> Genius begins great works; labor alone finishes them.-- Joseph Joubert </p> <p> <!-- "L" is a dropcap --> Life is like a box of chocolates. </p> <p>...</p> <p>...</p> </article> My CSS looks like this: article > p:first-child:first-letter { float: left; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 360%; line-height: 0.85em; margin-right: 0.05em; } p.quote { font-weight: bold; } It doesn't work currently when the quote is introduced. AFAIK I can't select the article's first child P which is not class "quote." I'll use jQuery if I can't figure this out, but for now I'm looking for a way to do it CSS only. Thanks in advance!
