  • Configure httpd.conf alias/subdirectory point to another server

    Hi, I,m having a web server for testing purposes to host my domain http://www.domain.com which run perfectly. Below is server specs: OS Freebsd 7.2 MySQL 5.1.33 Apache 2.2.11 PHP 5.2.9 I can do alias directory in my httpd.conf so that my domain can have subdirectory hosting in the same server such as httpd://domain.com/subdomain1, httpd://domain.com/subdomain2 and so on. All my subdomain1 and subdomain2 directory folders reside on the same web server but only different location. Below is my example from httpd.conf for the alias subdomain1 block: Alias /subdomain1 "/usr/local/www/subdomain1" <Directory "/usr/local/www/subdomain1"> Options +Indexes AllowOverride None allow from all </Directory> I,m looking a way in order my subdomain1 and subdomain2 directory is read from another server in my LAN but remain hosted as httpd://domain.com/subdomain1.   • Learning Puppet Exercise - Installing httpd package and starting service

    I'm working my way through the Learning Puppet guide on manifests, and I am stuck on the exercise at the bottom of the page which asks you to install the httpd package and start the httpd service. So far my manifest looks like: package { 'httpd': ensure => present, } service { 'httpd': ensure => running, enable => true, } However, upon trying puppet apply on it, I get: From looking at other examples of similar manifests, I cant quite figure out what the issue is - I presume the attempt at installing the package httpd failed? Unfortunately the error message isn't particularly helpful here. Any assistance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. I'm running their VMWare Learning Puppet VM (PE 2.7.0) that was provided for this tutorial.

    I have a Centos Server in 1and1 with Apache, Magento, MagentoBooster and Xcache installed. The server usually (1-8 times per day) prints this error "exit signal Bus error (7)" and sometimes this causes Apache not to respond.   • CentOS 5.8 server, installed Web Server vs yum install httpd

    I would like to know, what is the different between, the build-in CentOS server web server vs I install manual with yum install httpd I am new in CentOS. I just installed my CentOS 5.8 Server with Web Server checked. With some Google Search with LAMP installation, they listed with yum install httpd I had check inside /etc/init.d/ already had httpd I try to run yum install httpd http-devel It shows not yet installed. What will happen if I install yum version? What should I do? What is the best practise? Should I remove the Web Server install by default with CentOS? My goal is install LAMP (PHP v5.2.17).

  • Apache HTTPD - Segmentation fault when loading mod_jk module

    I just set up mod_jk with my Apache httpd 2.0.52 installation, but now when I try to start Apache, it has a segmentation fault. I've checked that I am using the mod_jk compiled for 2.0.x.. built against the same version I have, in fact. I've also verified that the path I'm giving to LoadModule is correct, and the permissions and the ownership of the file are the same as the rest of the modules'. When I remove the "LoadModule" command for mod_jk from my httpd.conf, there is no segmentation fault. Nothing shows in Apache's error logs. I have tried restarting the server with this module using both service httpd restart and httpd.   • Apache HTTPD - Segmentation fault when loading mod_jk module

    I just set up mod_jk with my Apache httpd 2.0.52 installation, but now when I try to start Apache, it has a segmentation fault. I've checked that I am using the mod_jk compiled for 2.0.x.. built against the same version I have, in fact. I've also verified that the path I'm giving to LoadModule is correct, and the permissions and the ownership of the file are the same as the rest of the modules'. When I remove the "LoadModule" command for mod_jk from my httpd.conf, there is no segmentation fault. Nothing shows in Apache's error logs. I have tried restarting the server with this module using both service httpd restart and httpd.     We have a production setup where we have Squid in the front(caching images, js, css, etc) Apache httpd in the middle(prefork + mod_rewrite + mod_jk/AJP + mod_deflate + mod_php(few php pages)) Apache tomcat 5.5 at the end serving all the dynamic stuff. What would be the best way to reduce the overhead of having 3 servers in the request path ? Wondering if replacing httpd with a faster web server like nginx/lighttpd will help. httpd right now does the job of url rewriting(for clean urls) and talking to tomcat(via mod_jk) and compressing output(mod_deflate) and serving some low traffic php pages. What would be ideal replacement for httpd given that we need these features? Is there a way to replace (squid + apache) with a single entity that does caching well (like squid) for static stuff, rewrites url, compresses response and forwards dynamic stuff directly to tomcat ? heard abt varnish cache, wondering if it can help.

  • View httpd/lighttpd modules that are installed on shared hosting

    I don't have access to the httpd.conf file on this shared host, but I wanted to see which modules are enabled/installed. Is there a (easy) way to find out without access to the httpd.conf file? For example, with PHP you can run a file that has phpinfo() in it to get the PHP info. Anything similar? The web server is lighttpd, which I understand is mostly compatible with apache httpd. (And yes, I am going to email the hosting support, but it sure would be nice to know for the future)

    I am working with a solution that requires the usage of mod_proxy_balancer and an application server that both ignores case and mixes different case combinations in URLs found in generated content. The configuration works, however I have now a new requirement that causes problems. I should be able to create a location directive (as per http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/mod/core.html#location ) and have the URL-path interpret in case insensitive mode. This requirement comes from the need to add authentication directives to the location. As you might guess, users (or the application in question) changing one letter to capital circumvents the protection instantly. The httpd runs on Unix platform so every configuration directive is apparently case sensitive by default. Should the regular expressions in the Location directive work in this case? Could someone please show me an example of such configuration that should work? In case a regular expression can not be forced to work case insensitively, what part of httpd's source code should I go around modifying?

    I created a custom log directory with the root account, and chmoded it to 777 teporarily. ls -la /var/mylogs/log/ total 16 drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4096 Jun 24 06:27 . drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Jun 24 06:25 .. When I try to start the service from a user (lets say "myuser", which is in the sudoers files as myuser ALL=(ALL) ALL), it fails because of the permissions : sudo /etc/init.d/httpd start Starting httpd: (13)Permission denied: httpd: could not open error log file /var/mylogs/log/httpd_error.log. Unable to open logs However, the following is successfull : sudo bash /etc/init.d/http start So I guess these two methods are not equivalent, although to me doing sudo was the same than logging into the root account and issuing the commands.     Is there a way to preserve amends we make to first (default) VirtualHost container in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf? We have a custom setup for a site and we want all unmatched hostnames to be caught by that VirtualHost. As per Apache manual all unmatched hosts are processed by first VirtualHost directive, hence we copied DocumentRoot, suPHP user and some other values from out main site's VH. Running /usr/local/cpanel/bin/apache_conf_distiller --update and then /usr/local/cpanel/bin/build_apache_conf reverts our changes.

    I can see that my server load increases to more than 200-300 range. Before 1 week the maximum load was around 20-25. In top and ps -ef i can see a lot of httpd threads and the PPID of most of the httpd request are of the same PID. When i verified this the parent process ID is of root. Please let me know how i can reduce the server load. I have searched a lot for this but not able to find out a proper solution for this. Please let me know.   • Which httpd.conf and php.ini files does plesk use

    If i disable the include_path in /etc/php.ini, i can still see that there is an include path loaded from somewhere. I want to know where this file is. If i use phpinfo(); on my domain i get that there is a include path /usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php, even though in the php.ini i used: ;inlucde_path=".:" In the section for aditional php.ini files this is the list: /etc/php.d/curl.ini, /etc/php.d/dbase.ini, /etc/php.d/dom.ini, /etc/php.d/gd.ini, /etc/php.d/imap.ini, /etc/php.d/json.ini, /etc/php.d/mbstring.ini, /etc/php.d/mysql.ini, /etc/php.d/mysqli.ini, /etc/php.d/pdo.ini, /etc/php.d/pdo_mysql.ini, /etc/php.d/pdo_sqlite.ini, /etc/php.d/wddx.ini, /etc/php.d/xmlreader.ini, /etc/php.d/xmlwriter.ini, /etc/php.d/xsl.ini, /etc/php.d/zip.ini I have checked all these files but i can nowhere find a reference to pear. This said the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file is questioning to me too. If i check this file i can see the following values are defined. DocumentRoot "/var/www/html" <Directory /> Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Options None AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory "/var/www/html"> Options None AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> The strange thing is that i don't even use this directory, so where does plesk get his httpd.conf file from. I want to check if everything is ok, because my vhost.conf is not working. I don't know if i should change these values or not, and where i can find the values plesk uses. i hope someone can help me with this.

  • localhost won't load after adding config data to httpd

    I am not very experienced with configuring httpd, and I am following a tutorial to view my site w/ domain name under localhost. My localhost just blanks out and my apache services won't restart. I checked all of my paths and they are correct. I am editing the w*indows/system32/drivers/etc/host*s file and my apache httpd file.     I am trying to redirect a www.example.com to www.example.org. I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. I have ensured that mod_rewrite is enabled in httpd.conf with: LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so I further verify this by running: httpd -M and getting rewrite_module (shared) included in the results. Later in the same httpd.conf file is the VirtualHost directive where I am trying to perform the rewrite: <VirtualHost *:80> Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.org/$1 [R=301,NC,L] ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot /var/www/html ServerName example.org ServerAlias www.example.org *.example.org <Directory "/var/www/html"> Options Includes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> ErrorLog /var/www/logs/error_log CustomLog /var/www/logs/access_log common </VirtualHost> As we can see, we are following SymLinks in the directory (which I believe is a requirement), AND we allow All Overrides (which meets another requirement).     I have a VPS running apache-php-mysql on centos and a single drupal website installed. The VPS has 256MB of RAM (could be the root cause of all my problems... maybe I just need more). Whenever I try to open my website from multiple browser tabs (about 8... not 800) all at once, apache crashes! I have this on the log: [Wed Oct 24 11:26:31 2012] [error] [client xxx] PHP Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 28049408) (tried to allocate 201335 bytes) in xxx on line 2139, referer: xxx I have read many many posts here, but I think there is something fundamental that I'm missing - If I understand correctly some php script tried to allocate 200K after allocating 28MB, and fails to do so. First question is: should this cause the apache to crash??? Next, I tried to look at 'top' command while I do my little test. Indeed I see 7 httpd processes, each reserving about 30MB - which explains why my RAM runs out. How do I prevent apache from creating new processes until it's out of memory? I tried configuring /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf like this: <IfModule prefork.c> StartServers 1 MinSpareServers 1 MaxSpareServers 1 ServerLimit 1 MaxClients 1 MaxRequestsPerChild 100 </IfModule> But got the same exact result! What am I missing? Thanks a lot!
