• lubuntu issues with desktop directory

  My lubuntu 12.04 is upgraded from the 11.10 version and I'm a Chinese user. What surprises me is that the directory shown on the initial screen is always changing! recently It seems to be mapped with the directory called w in my home directory(~). However when using pcmanfm to open the directory it usually shows odd string as to the name of the folder that cannot be print, which I think may be some Chinese characters.The directory also sometimes fails to appear in the window appeared first when logged in. I know the lxde has no conception of the shown folder and I think the lubuntu team has done some optimization. Can someone tell me what's happening?Thanks in advance.

• What to learn to make a photo gallery site like this? [closed]

  I started a Wordpress site for my blog but now I want to start another domain for sharing my photos. I used to use Flickr but it requires you to sign up for Flickr Pro if you want to upload over a certain amount of photos. Since I don't want to pay for that, I'm looking to create a photo gallery site like this: http://10mmgalore.com/ or http://www.shuttermaki.com/ But how do you go about with that? Would I be able to install Wordpress and find a theme like that? And/Or are there any Wordpress plugins that I can install to make it like look like that? Or do I need different tools and platforms asides from Wordpress? So can someone list the features, tools and information that I need to make a photo gallery site? The main functions that I want for my site is to have a picture in the middle and when the user clicks on the photo, it goes to the next photo; or there are left and right arrows that users can click to the next photo. I just want to create an album website for my 365 days project (a photo a day). It doesn't have to be as fancy as the sites mentioned above. Thank you!

• Use unnamed object to invoke method or not?

  If I have a class with only only public method. When I use this class, is it good to use unnamed object to invoke its method? normal: TaxFileParser tax_parser(tax_file_name); auto content = tax_parser.get_content(); or unnamed object version: auto content = TaxFileParser(tax_file_name).get_content(); Because I've told that we should avoid temporary as possible. If tax_parser object is used only once, can I call it a temporary and try to eliminate it? Any suggestion will be helpful.

  I have many models in my project, and some other classes just need the class declaration and pointer type aliasing. It does not need to know the class definition, so I don't want to include the model header file.   Hi all I'm using JBPM 4.3 and trying hard to find a way to terminate one processInstance. First I simply used something like: executionService.endProcessInstance(processInstanceID, "active"); However I got exception thrown out. "exception while executing command org.jbpm.pvm.internal.cmd.EndProcessInstance java.lang.NullPointerException" Then I googled to find this post http://community.jboss.org/thread/146478, which didn't seem to give a resolution. I tried nevertheless to end all executions of the processInstance by calling ((ExecutionImpl) execution).end(); But the same exception was thrown again when I finally try to call executionService.endProcessInstance(processInstanceID, "active"); Did anyone have the same experience and solution?

The CGI script then runs and compares 1500 to a text file. When it finds 1500 it prints the entire line and displays it on the webpage. I would like some tips and pointers on how to do this please. • random generator to obtain data from array not displaying

  I know theres a better solution using arc4random (it's on my to-try-out-function list), but I wanted to try out using the rand() and stand(time(NULL)) function first. I've created a NSMutableArray and chuck it with 5 data. Testing out how many number it has was fine. • `# probe: true` in /etc/rc.d/init.d/* files on a RedHat system

  Some files (e.g. nfs, nfslock, bind) in my /etc/rc.d/init.d/ directory have in their comment header a line such as: # probe: true I found that those particular scripts has the probe verb i.e.: service nfs probe But this is due to the fact that the mentioned scripts has code that deals with the probe verb. I find no mention of the # probe: true notation in chkconfig man page, nor in any related man pages. Googleing for it also didn't help. Is there a real significance for that line, or is it pure documentation?

• Too much memory consumed during TFS automated build

  We're running TFS 2010 Standard Edition, and we've set up an automated build to run whenever someone checks in code. We run through all of the automated tests (built with MSTest) as part of the build. We've configured the build to run the tests as a 64-bit process, but the QTAgent.exe that runs the tests grows in memory while the tests are running. It is currently reaching 8GB for the ~650 tests we have, and the process has slowed significantly when we went from 450 tests to 650 tests. When we run all of the tests in the local development environment, memory seems to be freed at least with each TestClass and never exceeds a certain level. The process of running all tests has not increased significantly in the local development environment. Is there a way to configure the build service to free up memory with each Test or each TestClass? With the way things are currently running, the build process gets very slow when we start to run out of memory on the machine. Edit: I found the MSTest invocation in the build log and ran it manually and saw the same behavior of runaway memory. I removed the /publish, /publishbuild, /teamproject, /platform, and /flavor parameters from the invocation of MSTest, in case the test runner was holding onto results until the end, but the behavior didn't change. I ran the same command line on a dev box, separate from the build server, and the memory freed up frequently. It seems there must be something wrong/different about the build server that is causing it to behave different, but I'm stumped where to look. I've looked at qtagent.exe.config, mstest.exe.config, versions of both executables. What else might affect this?

  [ This can be considered step 2 of my previous question Is it possible to change GNU screen session name after created? ] Actually, I'd like to write a script that can display current screen session name and change current session name. For example: sren armcross It will change the session name to armcross (ARM gcc cross compiler) and output something like: screen session name changed from '25278.pts-15.linux-ic37' to 'armcross' So, the key question now is how to get current session name. Not only for display the old session name, but according to Is it possible to change GNU screen session name after created? , I have to know it(pass to -d -r) before I can change it to something else. Can we use $STY for current session name? No. $STY will not change after you have changed the session name to a user-defined one. However, for command screen -d -r <oldsessname> -X sessionname armcross should be the user-defined name(if ever defined) instead of $STY, otherwise, screen spouts error "No screen session found." Maybe, there is a verbose way, use screen -list to list all sessions(user-defined name listed), then, match the pid part from $STY against those listed sessions and we will find current session's user-defined name. It should not be so verbose for such a straightforward question. Don't you think so? The -d -D and -r -R options seems to expose too much implementation detail to screen's user. It seems, to rename a session, you have to detach it, then do the rename, then reattach it. Right? My env: opensuse 11.3, GNU screen 4.00.03 (FAU) 23-Oct-06 Thank you.

• Limit vsftp upload to a given set of file-names

  I need to configure an anonymous ftp with upload. Given this requirement I try to lock this server down to the bear minimum. One of the restrictions I wish to impose is to enable the upload of only a given set of file-names. I tried to disallow write permission to the upload folder, and put in it some empty files with write permission: /var/ftp/ [root.root] [drwxr-xr-x] |-- upload/ [root.root] [drwxr-xr-x] | |-- upfile1 [ftp.ftp] [--w-------] | `-- upfile2 [ftp.ftp] [--w-------] `-- download/ [root.root] [drwxr-xr-x] `-- ... But this approach didn't work because when I tried to upload upfile1, it tried to delete and create a new file in its' place, and there is no permissions for that. Is there a way to make this work, or perhaps use a different approach like abusing the deny_file option?

• Any command line tool checking windows domain password?

  Does Windows provide a command line utility that lets me check a domain user's password? It is sufficient that the utility returns success(0) if I provide a matching domain user name and password. Alternatively, is there a simple VB/JS script that can do this? I'm the Intranet admin of my company and have the default password set for corporate staff, so I'd like to quickly scan which users have not changed their default password. Better yet, are there any books or websites which cover such topics so that I can get more information?

  After reading the vague official doc of GNU screen( http://www.gnu.org/software/screen/manual/screen.html ) and asking quite some questions at this site. I still cannot figure out how to accomplish such a task with a shell script. This task costs some words to describe. Assume I'm using PuTTY to telnet into my Linux server. ?STEP 1? Launch 2 telnet connections . From putty window 1 (PTWIN1),telnet into Linux Bash shell, execute screen -RR to launch a screen session, and get session name 21385.pts-4.linux-ic37 . From putty window 2 (PTWIN2), do that same as in PTWIN1, but this time, I get session name 22041.pts-9.linux-ic37 . Now, we have two screen sessions running simultaneously. We can check this: $ screen -ls There are screens on: 22041.pts-9.linux-ic37 (Attached) 21385.pts-4.linux-ic37 (Attached) 2 Sockets in /var/run/uscreens/S-chj2. ?STEP 2? Assume that for some reason, PTWIN1's TCP connection is lost abnormally(but server doesn't know that), and an urgent work is pending on session 21385 and I want to quickly regain control of it. Fortunately, we know the 21385 session is still there, so, I want to have PTWIN2 attach to session 21385. Because I hate to remember the esoteric screen option all the time, so I decide to write a script called sttach. I hope that sttach 21385.pts-4.linux-ic37 can let me attach to session 21385(for PTWIN2). Now, let's say sttach works well and I take control of 21385 on PTWIN2. ?STEP 3? Some minutes later. I want to go back to work on session 22041. Here, please allow me to have PTWIN2 remain associated with session 21385. What I would like to do is to launch another putty window (PTWIN3), telnet into server, and execute sttach 22041.pts-9.linux-ic37 in hope that I can resume session 22041 on PTWIN3 . You can see the benefit of sttach: as long as I know the target session name, I can call it to have my PuTTY window switch to that session, regardless whether the target session is "(Attached)" or "(Detached)", and regardless whether the running context is inside a screen session or not. Now the question: How to write the (Bash) script sttach? I mean, run screen with appropriate options in sttach to accomplish the goal. Waiting for your kind answer. Thank you. • Some Windows AD user property cannot be changed by AD user himself, what controls it?

  I'm curious with a question I find. An Windows Active Directory user can change his own telephone number, street address etc, but can NOT change his own email-address registered on the AD. Using Python+pywin32 I can also verify this behavior. When trying to change own EmailAddress, I got error General access denied error . I'd like to know where in the AD this allow/deny behavior is defined. Thank you.

• ADExplorer, how to search with "distinguishedName contains" condition?

  I'm using ADExplorer 1.42 from Microsoft. I'm not very versed at this program so please kindly help me out with a search-related problem. Right click on a node(e.g., CN=NlscanStaff) and select Search Container... , with default search attributes, I can see all objects inside NlscanStaff listed as result. Note that there is a CN=CHJTEST object listed. Now, my question is, how to search for CHJTEST specifically? I tried search condition: Attribute : distinguishedName Relation : contains Value : CN=CHJTEST Click Add , then Search . But no result. Can someone tell me what's going wrong? Thanks.
