  • Session Mania: Content Catalog & Suggest-a-Session

    As ably reported in the Oracle Technology Network blog, the Oracle Develop Conference's content catalog is now public (as are the catalogs for JavaOne and Oracle OpenWorld), meaning you can now explore technical sessions scheduled for the conf to your heart's content."But something's missing", you may tell yourself. "Where is my favorite subject, the one I happen to also be an expert on?" Well, there's good news for you, too: The Suggest-A-Session project has returned. It works thus: Submit a session idea via Oracle Mix and ask your colleagues, Oracle Mix community, friends and anyone else you know to vote for your session. (You must be an Oracle Mix member to vote.) Voting is open through June 20. For the most part, the top voted sessions will be selected for the Oracle Develop Conf (or Oracle OpenWorld) official agenda. See the FAQ for fine print.Apparently some people have already jumped into this loophole, including Oracle ACE Director Marco Gralike, who has "gone video" on us: Why wait? Suggest-a-session!

  • Java Road Trip: Code to Coast (#javaroadtrip)

    Hey, have you heard? The Java Road Trip bus may be stopping at a city near you this summer, starting June 14. And your peeps at Oracle Technology Network have donated some goodies. What is the Java Road Trip? Basically, we have packed a rock-star bus with demos (Java FX, Oracle ADF, Java EE 6, JDK 7, GlassFish, Java ME) and are putting it on the road; it will make 20 stops across the U.S. in the next couple of months (and MAY may make a special appearance at JavaOne, if we can find a big enough parking space). In many cases these stops will coincide with Java or Oracle user group meet-ups and will always involve beer, food, and free stuff. Furthermore, engineers from HQ will be flying out at various times to rendezvous with these meet-ups and answer your questions. Also, because this tour will only reach a relatively small number of people, we're working hard to provide a virtual experience: there will be a blogger/videographer/photog/tweeter on board, reporting on its every move. You'll find all this content at java.com/roadtrip, and you can get real-time updates via @java. And this new update: If you're attending ODTUG Kaleidoscope in Washington, D.C., in late June, you'll get a chance to see the Java Bus in all its glory.     Earlier this week I had the opportunity to chat with Ajay Patel, Oracle's VP leading the Java Evangelist team, about "the state of the union" wrt Oracle and Java. Take a look: And here are some choice quotes, some paraphrased, as helpfully transcribed by Java evangelist Terrence Barr: "One key thing we have learned ... Java is not just a platform, it is also an ecosystem, and you can't have an ecosystem without a community."   • "Not enough memory" error when running Peachtree Accounting 2010 with Logmein

    I setup one of my clients with a Logmein Pro account recently and everything has been running fine so far. Today, however, my client received an error when they were logged into their work computer remotely and tried to run a report from Peachtree Accounting 2010. The error states: "Not enough memory to run" and she can't print the report. I looked online and found another user that had this same problem with Peachtree 2010 when connected via Logmein here. The error doesn't happen if the user runs the report while sitting at her work computer, but it always happens when connected via Logmein. I know most of you will push it off as just a Logmein issue, which I'm sure it is - but I would like any constructive input from anyone else who may have had the same or similar problem.   • TV Playout software for Windows Server without DirectX?

    I am trying to find a TV Playout software (video mixer) for Windows Server 2003/2008 which can stream via rtmp to Justin.tv without the need for DirectX. The reason for this is that the server which would run the TV Playout software is hosted/virtualized via an ESXi server, and does not have DirectX support. Even if there was software that could just stream a playlist of video files to Justin.tv that would be a start. Thanks

  • Load balance incoming traffic

    Dear All Please I have the following scenario. 3 servers voip / mail / terminal one load balancing router 2 internet connections (static ip`s) My concern is to load balance incoming traffic since the outgoing traffic is being taking care by the load balancing router. For instance all offices connect to the mail server via the internet same for voip and terminal services. The mail and voip clients are set up with one of the static ip`s and the router forwards the request to the appropriate server. But obviously like this there is no fail over nor load balancing cause all requests are being directed to one internet connection. Anyone has a suggestion was thing of a dns server, does this make sens ? or maybe a hosted option ? Thanks Justin

    Hey, I'm trying to add a validation rule to multiple textboxes dynamically. Here's the js: //validate form. $("#SubmitForm").validate(); $("input[id*=Hours]").rules("add", { number: true, messages: { number: "Please enter a valid Hours" } }); This applies the rule to the very first textbox on the page with "Hours" in the id but then it doesn't apply it to any of the other ones.     Hey, In MonoRail/Active Record if I want to grab all records that have a certain column equal to null, I can do: public static Category[] AllParentCategories() { return (FindAllByProperty("Parent.Id", null)); } However, what if I want to grab all records where that column doesn't equal null? I can't figure out how to do that using this FindAllByProperty method, is there another method that is more flexible or a way to grab records using a linq-like querying language? Thanks, Justin

  • VWD 2008 Express : where can i set absolute positioning as a default?

    So when I used Visual Web Developer 2005 Express edition, in the ribbon there was a menu option for "Layout", which you could go through and select positioning and set absolute to default. I am using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express now, and I see that you can select format from the menu bar, and set position absolute, for each individual control that you add to the design surface, but is there a place I can just set absolute as the default, like in 2005?
