  • Oracle Linux Delivers Top CPU Benchmark Results on Sun Blades

The highlights: The dual-node Sun Blade X6275 M2 server module, equipped with two Intel Xeon X5670 2.93 GHz processors per node and running the Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5 operating system delivered the best SPECint_rate2006 and SPECfp_rate2006 benchmark results for all systems with Intel Xeon processor 5000 sequence. With a SPECint_rate2006 benchmark result of 679, the Sun Blade X6275 M2 server module, with two compute nodes per blade, delivers maximum performance for space constrained environments.     I need help enabling Intel 845g to run with intel drivers. I'v looked everywhere on the net with no joy.   • Intel graphic chipset and NVIDIA Geforce GTX560

    I have an NVIDIA Geforce GTX560 with two video projectors and I would like to use the onboard Intel Graphic Chipset to plug an additional monitor. I saw the question : How can I use both Intel onboard and Nvidia graphics at the same time? but the answer is so short that I was not convinced. My motherboard (GIGABYTE GA-H61M-D2P-B3 (rev. 1.0)) equipped with Intel H61 Chipset allow shared memory between onboard and PCIe cards. And Windows 7 allow me to use the three outputs thanks to Intel's driver. I'm able to use the onboard graphic card but without graphical interface for now. I think i need intel driver for that. But I would like to know if I can setup my displays in xorg.conf with something like : Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "intel" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device1" Driver "nvidia" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device2" Driver "nvidia" EndSection Does anyone have successfully setup something like that ? Or should I burn my head experimenting it by myself ? Or is there any good reasons to discouraged me to try ? Thanks for your help. Antoine PS : i'm using Ubuntu 10.10 for now, but I could switch to another version. PS2 : i also read this : Use 3 monitors w/built-in intel adapter + two old nvidia PCI cards on 10.10? which doesn't tell me more about the possibilities to use Intel Graphic and Nvidia at the same time EDIT : according to that : Can not get Dual Monitors to work on Different GPUs, I should be able to run two Xserver one on Intel the other on Nvidia.   • How is the Linux repository administrated?

    I am amazed by the Linux project and I would like to learn how they administrate the code, given the huge number of developers. I found the Linux repository on GitHub, but I do not understand how it is administrated. For example the following commit: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/31fd84b95eb211d5db460a1dda85e004800a7b52 Notice the following part: So one authored and Torvalds committed. How is this possible. I thought that it was only possible to have either pull or pushing rights, but here it seems like there is an approval stage. I should mention that the specific problem I am trying to solve is that we use pull requests to our repo. The problem we are facing is that while a pull request is waiting to get merged, it is often broken by a commit. This leads to a seemingly never ending work to adapt the fork in order to make the pull request merge smoothly. Do Linux solve this by giving lots of people pushing rights (at least there are currently just three pull requests but hundreds of commits per day).

  • Linux Mint 14 severe overheating

    I've tried switching to Mint (it was Mint 12) about 6 months ago, but failed to do it due to enormous overheating which made it virtually impossible to run any applications more complex than Gedit. Time had passed, and now I'm back again with Mint 14, but feeling way more determined.   • Serial connection over a single USB cable (Windows to linux, or linux to linux)

    I'm helping out with a project for an embedded device that only has USB and no serial. This device is running Linux. These days, when we need to connect to a serial port on a device we typically use a USB to serial adapter (on something like a phone system or a load balancing device, etc). I would like to know if it is possible to have the host device behave as though it were a serial adapter, thus removing the need for one. Given the nature of USB, is this approach even necessary? To recap, I would like to be able to connect a single A-to-A USB cable from my workstation (be it windows or linux) to this device, for the purpose of administration (especially initial setup), using minicom, putty or hyperterminal.   • Is the Core i5 Processor from Intel like the Celerons of yesteryear?

    The title pretty much says it. I know that the Core i7's are Quad Core and Hyper-threaded (so 4 cores, and 8 logical), and the Core i5's are Quad Core as well but not Hyper-threaded, does this really make a difference? Or are the only people who are going to care are the ones who CPU intensive operations? I'm a developer, so I'm more concerned about hard drive speed most times than CPU speed. Any thoughts?

    I updated from 11.10 to 12.04 using the distribution upgrade, after that I couldn't log into using the Unity 3D desktop after logging in I would either never get unity's launcher or I would get the launcher and once I tried to do anything the windows lost their decoration and nothing would respond. If I use Unity 2D it works fine and in fact I'm using it to type this.   • Trying to make a custom Arch-based Linux distro with larch

    I'm all set up with a spiffy Arch installation in a virtual machine, and now I want to turn it into a live ISO. When I heard about larch, I thought it would be the perfect tool to turn my existing installation into something I could distribute. However, I can't get larch to install properly. I followed the installation instructions on the website, which said to download and run the larch-setup script. When I run it, though, it installs the larch profiles and libraries but doesn't install the executable programs. Here's a screenshot of the errors I get when larch-setup tries to install the executables. I'd greatly appreciate any clues to what is going wrong here, or suggestions for alternative ways to turn my customized Arch installation into an ISO! Thanks!

Even when mysql eats 2 or 3 CPUs at 100% each, the output of cpuinfo is the same. If fact mysql performance for some heavy inserts is poorer than my old E5430 server. Any clues? I contacted the server provider, they tried turning off SpeedStep and still we see the same results. Any insights would be helpful cause I am paying heavily for this box and would love to milk all juice i can.

    I have a bit slow PC here, so I decided to put Ubuntu 11.04 on it. It use to run Windows Vista on a resolution of 1280x1024, so both my hardware and monitor support it. Now I'm on Ubuntu, but can only run 1024x768, and the screen is not that bright. Its like when you don't have the right drivers on a Windows machine. Now i'm new to linux, so I do not know what do do. I have an onboard Intel chipset i965.     I have an Intel motherboard (DH67CL) that uses Intel HD 3000 video. It has two video output ports: HDMI and DVI. Both my monitors are DVI, so I have two cables: a DVI-DVI and an HDMI-DVI. If I plug a monitor into just one of these ports, things work fine. But if I plug monitors into each of the ports, the system startup screens show on both monitors, along with the "Starting Windows..." screen, but as soon as the system boots into Windows, the HDMI-connected monitor goes to sleep. When I use the Intel video control panel, the HDMI-connected monitor is not detected. How do I get a dual-monitor setup to work?

  • How well does Intel 3000 HD work on Ubuntu?

    Right now i have notebook with Nvidia 8400M GS (I know, it's not good card) and it's impossible to work normally when i'll plugin external monitor (1920x1080). Windows 7 can deal with it without problems (1440x900 on notebook + 1920x1080 external). On Ubuntu i have to choose one screen and turn off the second one. Even with only one screen Ubuntu (Unity or even Gnome3) sometimes hangs for a while, I've not found solution for this yet, but nevermind, it's probably because of my card or/and nvidia's drivers. I'm going to buy new PC, but for now only with integrated Intel 3000HD, and my question is: Should i expect similar problems with this card? Here i've found link to Intel's webpage about drivers - "only community develop them", and i'm a bit concerned. I'll use then only one monitor (the bigger one), but how well does those driver work? Are there any performance tests?

  • Ubuntu 12.04 OpenCL with Intel and Radeon?

    I want to setup my Ubuntu 12.04 with OpenCL(Open Computing Language) support for i7 2600k and Radeon HD5870. My Monitor is connected to the integrated Graphics of the i7. Intel OpenCL SDK is installed and working. Iteration of avaliable OpenCL devices shows 2 entries for Intel. As recommended I installed AMD APP SDK 2.6 first and then the fglrx driver. I installed fglrx from Ubuntu repositories. This works fine till here. When I run aticonfig --inital -f and restart the system I get into trouble.
