    Do you know any library in C# that I can use in order to read an existing *.mid file? I want to draw the sound frequency graph for the MIDI file, but I cannot get the inner data. I tried using NAudio and Alvas.Audio, but I wans't able to read a MIDI file. Any suggestions?

  • Step-by-step to run a midi keyboard input device? 12.04

    I have a Korg Nanokey, and I'd like to make it produce sound in ubuntu. I've read that means I should be using Rosegarden, and that Rosegarden uses JACK, but does not install it. (Although checking out Ubuntu Software Center, apparently some components of JACK are installed by default?) I understand there can be a lot of work setting up JACK without it fighting the default sound server. Can someone give me a step-by-step method for what I need to do to plug in my midi machine and hear music when I press keys as simply as possible (without messing up pulseaudio, ie, so I can still access Skype and ordinary desktop stuff)? I'm fine installing JACK, but I'd like to sandbox it a little if it has the chance of messing up regular desktop.   • Actual note duration from MIDI duration

    I'm currently implementing an application to perform some tasks on MIDI files, and my current problem is to output the notes I've read to a LilyPond file. I've merged note_on and note_off events to single notes object with absolute start and absolute duration, but I don't really see how to convert that duration to actual music notation. I've guessed that a duration of 376 is a quarter note in the file I'm reading because I know the song, and obviously 188 is an eighth note, but this certainly does not generalise to all MIDI files. Any ideas?

  • Extracting note onset from Polyphonic MIDI using jMusic API

    Hi May I know whether it's possible to extract note onset and other musical details (e.g. pitch, note duration) form polyphonic MIDI(i.e. either multiples notes played from treble and bass voices, or chords) using the jMusic API? It has a method to extract note onset - but it returns zero each time for a given note. However extracting pitch and duration for monophonic (i.e. single note) MIDI using jMusic is possible. But when there exist chords it only captures a single note of the chord, and note onset returns zero each time. Is there a way I can resolve this? Appreciate any insight asap. Thanks in advance

    Hi I have java application which plays midi messages from sequence. I'm doing this using jfugue library. the problem is when I'm tryingto stop playback with stop button (which call sequencer.stop() and sequencer.close()) the last played note is sound all of rest time, and I can't stop it. So I'm asking about solution about stopping all audio and MIDI too! sound playback from java application. Notice: If you want propose just mute volume, you need to know that I want end-use will be able to press play button again and hear the sound again, so muting volumr will be not a solution, or explain please.   • Audio Midi Setup needs to be quit before able to be opened again in OS X Mountain Lion

    Since Mac OS X Lion (I'm using Mac OS 10.8.2 now) I have the exact same issue with audio midi setup software from Apple. It's not really a not working thing but it still is annoying: Every time I open audio midi setup to change something (e.g. change to my Apple TV for audio playback) and close the window afterwards the application doesn't quit – what would be OK if a click on the Icon (or the starting of the application over Spotlight) would cause the application to open a new window of audio midi setup, but it doesn't. So what I have to do to get the window back is first quitting the application manually and restarting it again. That's quite painful since I sometimes opened the application days ago and forgot that it's still opened... Does anyone have the same issue? Can someone explain this behavior to me? And most important: Does anyone know a workaround?

  • How to get Rosegarden to work with timidity?

    I'm having problems getting Rosegarden to play midi using Timidity on Ubuntu 11.10 amd64. I've tried mapping the MIDI playback device to one of the Timidity port that was automatically created on start up and that failed. I've also tried manually starting timidity using the -iA option, and mapping the Rosegarden's MIDI playback device to one of the new ports, and that still failed. When I close Rosegarden, I can hear one or two notes get played. Would anyone know how I can get Rosegarden to work again. Thanks.

    What, in your opinion, is the best API to utilize in developing an application that handles both realtime MIDI and audio input and output? This would be for an application that is used in the process of making music as opposed to playing audio or MIDI files. I'm aware that this may be a subjective question, but if you know of an API that is dominantly used for these purposes, please share it. I'm agnostic about which language the API is for, and I also don't care about portability. The real concern is for an API that is well documented, well designed (e.g. thought out and intuitive to developers using it), and actively maintained. OS portability would be nice, but it is second to having an API/Language that meets the previous requirements. Please note that the emphasis is not on API's for sound synthesis or for composing music with code. It is intended for the handling of sound file and MIDI data in a real-time context.

    I want to do some funky things with controlling MIDI streams, and I'd like to be able to pipe MIDI input into an application like Ableton or Reason. Presumably this involves some sort of driver level work? Ultimately I'd like to write my application in Python, so if there is some Python-based solution, I'd consider it. I'm perfectly fine with using C/C++, though, so that's not a problem.

  • Alternative Input Device(Midi) doesn't prevent Screen Saver in Winforms application

    I have developed a c# winforms application whereby the user is providing input via a midi connected device. The user will go for long periods without using the keyboard or mouse. When I receive a midi message is there anything I can do to "tell" the system that this counts as user activity (ie key press). I don't want the screen saver or time lockouts to occur, if they are actively using the midi device. I think my request is different than other requests I've seen because they want to disable screen savers for the life of their application whereby I just want midi input I receive to count as user interactivity. Is there something I can call when I receive midi input to signify to the system user activity?

    Leaving Cubase 5 out of the picture, when I use Reason 4.0 to compose something, I need a program running that will monitor the chords I'm pressing WHILE I'm pressing them. See, I'm a new keyboardist, and a thing like this will improve my accuracy by 100%. At one point, I'll stop needing such programs even, but for now, I'd REALLY like to have something of that sort. Free or commercial suggestions.

  • MIDI - Continous control of pitch outside the standard pitch bend range?

    After I send a note on message I can control the pitch of a note within a ±2 semitone range using the pitch bend channel command. How can I continuously update a pitch of a note outside of the normal pitch bend range without retriggering the note (i.e. sending another note on message with the new pitch?) In other words the current note is still sounding after a note on message and its envelope has not reached the end of its release stage. I would like to change the pitch outside the pitch bend range, preferably anywhere within the audible frequency range.
