  • Gentoo baselayout-2 problem with module parameters

    I recently switched to baselayout-2 on my Gentoo machine but I have one problem. I autoload a module bttv with paramater: card=77,77 The problem is that at boot the module is loaded without the parameter which makes the video feed useless. I cannot find the cause because the funny thing is that when I put an echo in /etc/init.d/modules to see what is passed to modprobe, this is what I got: szymanowicz ~ # /etc/init.d/modules restart * WARNING: you are stopping a boot service * Caching service dependencies ... [ ok ] * Loading module bttv ... bttv card=77,77 [ ok ] * Autoloaded 1 module(s) It indicates that everything is OK, but dmesg shows that at boot time there are no parameters. bttv0: using: *** UNKNOWN/GENERIC *** [card=0,autodetected] ... bttv1: using: *** UNKNOWN/GENERIC *** [card=0,autodetected] Whereas when I run it manually I get: bttv0: using: GrandTec Multi Capture Card (Bt878) [card=77,insmod option] ... bttv1: using: GrandTec Multi Capture Card (Bt878) [card=77,insmod option] Please help me because reloading the modules every time there is a reboot is very anoying (not many reboots, but I need to remember about the module)

    I have the following 2 links, I'm not great with .htaccess rules yet. Old URL: http://www.mywebsite.org.uk/donate/donate.php?charity_id=885&project_id=18111 New URL: http://new.mywebsite.org.uk/donation/to/885/18111 I want all the traffic coming from the old URL to the new url (including the parameters charity_id & project_id). I'm trying to learn .htaccess rules, but finding the tutorials online to be kinda vague. I'd really like a simple explanation on the .htaccess rules. (Give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime). The correct answer will be the answer with a simple and useful explanation (along with the rules if possible!).

    I am new to MS ADO and trying to understand how to set the size on command parameters as created by the command.CreateParameter (Name, Type, Direction, Size, Value) The documentation says the following: Size Optional. A Long value that specifies the maximum length for the parameter value in characters or bytes. ... If you specify a variable-length data type in the Type argument, you must either pass a Size argument or set the Size property of the Parameter object before appending it to the Parameters collection; otherwise, an error occurs. 1.) What should one pass for fixed-size parameters? Is it a "don't care"? I was a bit confused by the example found here, in which they set size to 3 for an adInteger parameter with Value set to a variant of type VT_I2 pPrmByRoyalty->Type = adInteger; pPrmByRoyalty->Size = 3; pPrmByRoyalty->Direction = adParamInput; pPrmByRoyalty->Value = vtroyal; VT_I2 implies two bytes. A tagVARIANT struct is 16 bytes. How did they land on three? I see that the enum value for adInteger happens to be three, but I suspect that is just a coincidence. So it's a bit confusing what to pass for fixed-size parameters. The team I'm working with has always passed sizeof(int) for adInteger, and it seems to work. Is that correct? Now, for "variable-length" parameters: we are instructed by the documentation to pass "the maximum length .. in characters or bytes". 2.) For adVarChar, is it sufficient to pass the max width as defined in the database? 3.) What about the Wide types (e.g. adVarWChar)? Is it characters or bytes? 4.) How about adVariant, which could contain fixed- or variable-length data? 5.) Do arrays ever come into play here? (we don't pass them as parameters, just curious) Any references or personal insights are welcome.

  • Reporting Services keeps erasing my dataset parameters

    I'm using a web service and every time I change something on the dataset, it erases all my parameters. The weird thing is, I can execute the web service call from the data tab and it prompts for all my parameters, but if I click to edit the data the list is empty or if I try to preview the report it blows up because parameters are missing. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there is a way to prevent this behavior. Here is a copy of the dataset, not that I think it matters. This has to be the most annoying bug (if its a bug) ever. I can't even execute the dataset from the designer without it erasing my parameter list. When you have about 10 parameters and you are making all kinds of changes to a new report, it becomes very tedious to be constantly re-typing the same list over and over.   • avoiding the tedium of optional parameters

    If I have a constructor with say 2 required parameters and 4 optional parameters, how can I avoid writing 16 constructors or even the 10 or so constructors I'd have to write if I used default parameters (which I don't like because it's poor self-documentation)? Are there any idioms or methods using templates I can use to make it less tedious? (And easier to maintain?)

    Hi, I have an URL Structure like this: http://my.domain.com/generated.xml?param1=foo&param2=bar&xsl=path/to/my.xsl The generated XML will be transformed using the given XSL Stylesheet. The two other parameters are integrated too like this: <root> <params> <param name="param1">foo</param> <param name="param2">bar</param> </param> ... </root> Now I want to create with XSLT a link with a new URI that keeps the existing parameters and adds one or multiple new parameters like page=3 or sort=DESC. If the given parameter already exists, it should be replaced. I'm not sure how to do this. How to pass multiple (optional) parameters to a template. How to merge two lists of parameters. Any ideas?     Simple question really for anyone who's been through this: I have a form that I'm placing on a site. This form submits some parameters to a site which then sends some parameters using "GET" to another site, which then opens the third site. Now the first 2 sites pass so quickly that I can not see what parameters were passed using the URL. I can do a manual check using source code but its too long and complex. I just need a simple tool or hint or firefox addon on how to track every single URL (wven if it has a META redirect) so I can read parameters being sent via the form. Thanks

  • Microsoft Reporting: Setting subreport parameters in code

    How can I set a parameter of a sub-report? I have successfully hooked myself up to the SubreportProcessing event, I can find the correct sub-report through e.ReportPath, and I can add datasources through e.DataSources.Add. But I find no way of adding report parameters?? I have found people suggesting to add them to the master report, but I don't really want to do that, since the master report shouldn't have to be connected to the sub-report at all, other than that it is wrapping the sub-report. I am using one report as a master template, printing name of the report, page numbers etc. And the subreport is going to be the report itself. And if I could only find a way to set those report parameters of the sub-report I would be good to go... Clarification: Creating/Defining the parameters is not the problem. The problem is to set their values. I thought the natural thing to do was to do it in the SubreportProcessing event. And the SubreportProcessingEventArgs do in fact have a Parameters property. But it is read only! So how do you use that? How can I set their value?

My site searches in the database and show some information. These two URL display some data: http://mydomain.com/index.aspx?category=business http://mydomain.com/index.aspx?category=graphic&City=Paris In URL parameter section, I can only define parameter category, how Google can detect proper values (business, graphics, real estate...)? Every word is not valid for search. If My page name is default.aspx or anything else, where I should define it? If I use URL rewriting like http://mydomain.com/search/category/business, my settings must change?

To pass the information I have a couple of choices: Pass the information as parameters Set instance variables so that other methods can access them When should I choose one option over the other? It seems that the first option is good as it is very specific about what is being passed. the downside seems to be that a lot of values are being passed around. The second method doesn't require passing all the values around but seems to lead to a lot of magic where methods set instance variables 'somewhere' Should I always be very explicit about gets passed to other methods in the class? Are there exceptions so this?

    I'm trying to call a parameterized stored procedure from SQL Server 2005 in my C# Winforms app. I add the parameters like so (there are 88 of them): cmd.Parameters.Add("@CustomerName", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100).Value = CustomerName.Text; I get the following exception: "System.InvalidCastException: Failed to convert parameter value from a TextBox to a String. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Object must implement IConvertible." The line throwing the error is when I call the query: cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); I also tried using the .ToString() method on the TextBoxes, which seemed pointless anyway, and threw the same error. Am I passing the parameters incorrectly? Thanks for the help.

    BACKGROUND Am writing a WinForm app that uses the SSRS Report Viewer control to render reports in local mode - there is no SSRS server involved at all I can successully create and execute reports in local mode What I want to do is add Parameters to the report THE PROBLEM When the Report Viewer control executes a report in local mode it does not provide any UI that allows the user to enter values for parameters defined in the report This is in contrast to to when the Report Viewer control is running a server report - parameters are shown. MY QUESTION Are there pre-built components or even sample code I can use that would provide a reasonble parameter user experience for this scenario (scenario = SSRS + Report Viewer Control + Local Mode)? Yes, I could write this UI code myself - what I am looking for is existing code to avoid having to implement this UI because I'd rather spend my time making the content of the report work well NOTES Switching to another reporting engine besides SSRS is not an option. Switching to server side reports is not an option.

The information above is absolutely useless unless I can see what the actual parsing problem was. In general, is there a way to set logs in Oracle to show parameters in parameterized query errors?

    With default parameters introduced in C# 4.0 one might be tempted to abandon the old approach of providing method overloads to simulate default parameters. However, you must take in consideration that both techniques are not interchangeable since they show different behaviors in certain scenarios. For me the most relevant difference is that default parameters are a compile time feature while method overloading is a runtime feature. To illustrate these concepts let’s take a look at a complete, although a bit long, example. The use of default parameters is also discouraged by Microsoft in public API’s as stated in (CA1026: Default parameters should not be used) code analysis rule.

    In writing functions my brain always spends a few milliseconds to check which order of parameters would be best for a given function. should I write: public Comment AddComment(long userID, string title, string text) Or probably: public Comment AddComment(string title, string text, long userID) Why not: public Comment AddComment(string title, long userID, string text) Do you follow any rules when ordering the parameters for your functions? Which parameter would you place first and which would follow?

  • Ruby on Rails POST parameters on redirect_to

    I have to make a call to a different url in one of my controllers on my site. The problem is that with all the parameters the other site requires I'm overflowing the url. Is there anyway to call another url from the controller and send all of the parameters using a POST? I'm not expecting a response from the other site. Also, I think there's a way to do this using the Net::HTTP library thought I'm not sure how. Thanks
