  • What's the difference between WSGI <app> and <module>?

    - by Leftium
I followed these instructions to serve Python (Web2Py) via uWSGI. However, the web server returned an error: uWSGI Error Python application not found until I modified the config.xml config file from: <uwsgi> <pythonpath>/var/web2py/</pythonpath> <app mountpoint="/"> <script>wsgihandler</script> </app> </uwsgi> to: <uwsgi> <pythonpath>/var/web2py/</pythonpath> <module>wsgihandler</module> </uwsgi> What's the difference between <app> and <module>? Why did <module> work, but not <app>?

  • Problem with Python3 picking Python2 package

    - by zetah
I installed python3-numpy package, but trying to import it in Python3 interpreter I get this: $ python3 Python 3.2.3 (default, May 3 2012, 15:54:42) [GCC 4.6.3] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import numpy Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "/home/zetah/.local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/numpy/__init__.py", line 128, in <module> from version import git_revision as __git_revision__ ImportError: No module named version >>> Looking in Synaptic I see python3-numpy is installed in /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/numpy/ Why is it picking wrong package and what can I do to remedy this? Update: OK, in my ~/.profile I have this line: PYTHONPATH=$PYTHONPATH:$HOME/.local/lib/python2.7/site-packages but if I remove this line then my Python 2.7 local packages (which I build from source) wont work Update 2: Everything seems to work perfect without $PYTHONPATH. I guess it was in my .profile file for nothing Please close this question

  • Windows environment variables change when opening command line?

    - by Jakobud
Sometimes when I change my environment variables in Windows, and then use software the depends on those variables, they are not properly updated. And good example is to change a variable, then open up Windows Command Line and echo the variable and see that it hasn't been changed, even though you properly changed it in the Environment Variables window. Another example I'm dealing with right now: I've been using Python 2.4.x for a while for a project, which uses the env var PYTHONPATH who's value has been: C:\Python24;C:\Python24\lib Today I installed Python 2.5.x for the project. I changed my PYTHONPATH to be: C:\Python25;C:\Python25\lib When I use Python 2.5 to run a script and do this: import sys print sys.path It prints: 'C:\\PYTHON24', 'C:\\PYTHON24\\lib' (and some other Python 2.5 related default installation paths) So clearly, the old PYTHONPATH environment variable changes aren't really sticking.... Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?

  • uWSGI cannot find "application" using Flask and Virtualenv

    - by skyler
Using uWSGI to serve a simple wsgi app, (a simple "Hello, World") my configuration works, but when I try to run a Flask app, I get this in uWSGI's error logs: current working directory: /opt/python-env/coefficient/lib/python2.6/site-packages writing pidfile to /var/run/uwsgi.pid detected binary path: /opt/uwsgi/uwsgi setuid() to 497 your memory page size is 4096 bytes detected max file descriptor number: 1024 lock engine: pthread robust mutexes uwsgi socket 0 bound to TCP address 127.0.0.1:3031 fd 3 Python version: 2.6.6 (r266:84292, Jun 18 2012, 14:18:47) [GCC 4.4.6 20110731 (Red Hat 4.4.6-3)] Set PythonHome to /opt/python-env/coefficient/ *** Python threads support is disabled. Before I added my Virtualenv's pythonpath to my configuration file, I was getting an ImportError for Flask. • Installing Mercurial on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

    - by Matthew Rankin
Installing Mercurial on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard I installed Mercurial 1.3.1 on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard from source using the following: cd ~/src curl -O http://mercurial.selenic.com/release/mercurial-1.3.1.tar.gz tar xzvf mercurial-1.3.1.tar.gz cd mercurial-1.3.1 make ALL sudo make install This installs the site-packages files for Mercurial in /usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/. I know that installing Mercurial from the Mac Disk Image will install the files into /Library/Python/2.6/site-packages/, which is the site-packages directory for the Mac OS X default Python install. I have Python 2.6.2+ installed as a Framework with its site-packages directory in: /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages With Mercurial installed this way, I have to issue: PYTHONPATH=/usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages:"${PYTHONPATH}" in order to get Mercurial to work. Questions How can I install Mercurial from source with the site-packages in a different directory? Is there an advantage or disadvantage to having the site-packages in the current location? Would it be better in one of the Python site-package directories that already exist? Do I need to be concerned about virtualenv working correctly since I have modified PYTHONPATH (or any other conflicts for that matter)? Reasons for Installing from Source Dan Benjamin of Hivelogic provides the benefits of and instructions for installing Mercurial from source in his article Installing Mercurial on Snow Leopard.

  • How to run Django 1.3/1.4 on uWSGI on nginx on EC2 (Apache2 works)

    - by Tadeck
I am posting a question on behalf of my administrator. Basically he wants to set up Django app (made on Django 1.3, but will be moving to Django 1.4, so it should not really matter which one of these two will work, I hope) on WSGI on nginx, installed on Amazon EC2. The app runs correctly when Django's development server is used (with ./manage.py runserver 0.0.0.0:8080 for example), also Apache works correctly. The only problem is with nginx and it looks there is something else wrong with nginx / WSGI or Django configuration. His description is as follows: Server has been configured according to many tutorials, but unfortunately Nginx and uWSGI still do not work with application. ProjectName.py: import os, sys, wsgi os.environ.setdefault("DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE", "ProjectName.settings") from django.core.wsgi import get_wsgi_application application = get_wsgi_application() I run uWSGI by comand: uwsgi -x /etc/uwsgi/apps-enabled/projectname.xml XML file: <uwsgi> <chdir>/home/projectname</chdir> <pythonpath>/usr/local/lib/python2.7</pythonpath> <socket>127.0.0.1:8001</socket> <daemonize>/var/log/uwsgi/proJectname.log</daemonize> <processes>1</processes> <uid>33</uid> <gid>33</gid> <enable-threads/> <master/> <vacuum/> <harakiri>120</harakiri> <max-requests>5000</max-requests> <vhost/> </uwsgi> In logs from uWSGI: *** no app loaded. going in full dynamic mode *** In logs from Nginx: XXX.com [pid: XXX|app: -1|req: -1/1] XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX () {48 vars in 989 bytes} [Date] GET / => generated 46 bytes in 77 m secs (HTTP/1.1 500) 2 headers in 63 bytes (0 switches on core 0) added /usr/lib/python2.7/ to pythonpath. • Mercurial extensions not working in Windows 7 x64?

    - by Samuel Meacham
We are test driving Mercurial at work. We don't want to have to enter our user/pass each time we interact with a repository, so we set up the mercurial_keyring extension. We: Installed Python 2.6.5 (32 or 64 bit, depending on the system) Installed setuptools (for easy_install.exe) easy_install keyring easy_install mercurial_keyring And then made the appropriate changes to %userprofile%/mercurial.ini in the [auth] section. It works fine on my colleague's computer (32bit xp sp3), but it does not work on my machine (Windows 7 Ultimate x64). Also noteworthy, the setuptools had to be built from source on Win 7 x64 (python setup.py bdist_wininst, then run the resulting setuptools-0.6c11.win-amd64.exe). Using just hg.exe from the Mercurial 1.5 binary installation (the .msi), I get this error when I run hg.exe: * failed to import extension mercurial_keyring: No module named mercurial_keyring I tried to change my mercurial.ini, to specify the path to the mercurial_keyring.py file, instead of having mercurial find it (since it's in the PYTHONPATH). Old: [extensions] mercurial_keyring = New: [extensions] mercurial_keyring = c:/mercurial/extensions/mercurial_keyring.py The error changes to: abort: could not import module keyring! So while providing the path to the mercurial_keyring extension works, the dependent keyring module still cannot be found. After further investigation, it appears that NO extensions work. They all produce the error: * failed to import extension [extension name]: No module named [module name] It appears that when running hg.exe, it is not aware of PYTHONPATH. I have tried: Python 2.6.5 32 bit Python 2.6.5 64 bit Building Mercurial 1.5 from source with MinGW Building Mercurial 1.5 from source with MSVC9 Using hg.exe from the 1.5 binary dist (.msi) Using the hg.py in c:\python26\scripts when building from source Various configurations in %userprofile%/mercurial.ini Using setuptools (easy_install.exe) to install keyring and mercurial_keyring Building keyring and mercurial_keyring from source (python setup.py bdist_wininst) Nothing works. The closest I've got is using hg.py when building from source. It at least doesn't give me errors, and actually creates %userprofile%/wincrypto_pass.cfg when I enter my credentials. But on subsequent requests, it doesn't enter the credentials automatically. It prompts me for them again. Interestingly, TortoiseHG is using the keyring. I just can't get it to work on the command line. I think something is going on with Win 7 x64 that is preventing mercurial (hg.exe) from seeing the PYTHONPATH, so it can't find any of the installed modules. Does anyone have extensions working in Win 7 x64? Specifically with the binary installation of mercurial (not hg.py)?

  • Unable to run winpdb

    - by hekevintran
I tried to run winpdb.py, but I got an error saying that it could not find wxPython. This is strange to me because I know I have wxPython installed and included in my PYTHONPATH. I can import wx in the Python interpreter. Mac OS X 10.5.8 Python 2.6 PYTHONPATH=/sw/lib/python2.6/site-packages/:/usr/local/lib/wxPython-unicode-2.8.10.1/lib/python2.6/site-packages/wx-2.8-mac-unicode: $ python winpdb.py wxPython was not found. wxPython 2.6 or higher is required to run the winpdb GUI. wxPython is the graphical user interface toolkit used by Winpdb. You can find more information on wxPython at http://www.wxpython.org/ The Unicode version of wxPython is recommended for Winpdb. To use the debugger without a GUI, run rpdb2. What could be causing this?

  • Accessing py2exe program over network in Windows 98 throws ImportErrors

    - by darvids0n
I'm running a py2exe-compiled python program from one server machine on a number of client machines (mapped to a network drive on every machine, say W:). For Windows XP and later machines, have so far had zero problems with Python picking up W:\python23.dll (yes, I'm using Python 2.3.5 for W98 compatibility and all that). It will then use W:\zlib.pyd to decompress W:\library.zip containing all the .pyc files like os and such, which are then imported and the program runs no problems. The issue I'm getting is on some Windows 98 SE machines (note: SOME Windows 98 SE machines, others seem to work with no apparent issues). What happens is, the program runs from W:, the W:\python23.dll is, I assume, found (since I'm getting Python ImportErrors, we'd need to be able to execute a Python import statement), but a couple of things don't work: 1) If W:\library.zip contains the only copy of the .pyc files, I get ZipImportError: can't decompress data; zlib not available (nonsense, considering W:\zlib.pyd IS available and works fine with the XP and higher machines on the same network). 2) If the .pyc files are actually bundled INSIDE the python exe by py2exe, OR put in the same directory as the .exe, OR put into a named subdirectory which is then set as part of the PYTHONPATH variable (e.g W:\pylib), I get ImportError: no module named os (os is the first module imported, before sys and anything else). Come to think of it, sys.path wouldn't be available to search if os was imported before it maybe? I'll try switching the order of those imports but my question still stands: Why is this a sporadic issue, working on some networks but not on others? And how would I force Python to find the files that are bundled inside the very executable I run? I have immediate access to the working Windows 98 SE machine, but I only get access to the non-working one (a customer of mine) every morning before their store opens. Thanks in advance! EDIT: Okay, big step forward. After debugging with PY2EXE_VERBOSE, the problem occurring on the specific W98SE machine is that it's not using the right path syntax when looking for imports. Firstly, it doesn't seem to read the PYTHONPATH environment variable (there may be a py2exe-specific one I'm not aware of, like PY2EXE_VERBOSE). Secondly, it only looks in one place before giving up (if the files are bundled inside the EXE, it looks there. If not, it looks in library.zip). EDIT 2: In fact, according to this, there is a difference between the sys.path in the Python interpreter and that of Py2exe executables. Specifically, sys.path contains only a single entry: the full pathname of the shared code archive. Blah. No fallbacks? Not even the current working directory? I'd try adding W:\ to PATH, but py2exe doesn't conform to any sort of standards for locating system libraries, so it won't work. Now for the interesting bit. The path it tries to load atexit, os, etc. from is: W:\\library.zip\<module>.<ext> Note the single slash after library.zip, but the double slash after the drive letter (someone correct me if this is intended and should work). It looks like if this is a string literal, then since the slash isn't doubled, it's read as an (invalid) escape sequence and the raw character is printed (giving W:\library.zipos.pyd, W:\library.zipos.dll, ... instead of with a slash); if it is NOT a string literal, the double slash might not be normpath'd automatically (as it should be) and so the double slash confuses the module loader. Like I said, I can't just set PYTHONPATH=W:\\library.zip\\ because it ignores that variable. It may be worth using sys.path.append at the start of my program but hard-coding module paths is an absolute LAST resort, especially since the problem occurs in ONE configuration of an outdated OS. Any ideas? I have one, which is to normpath the sys.path.. pity I need os for that. Another is to just append os.getenv('PATH') or os.getenv('PYTHONPATH') to sys.path... again, needing the os module. The site module also fails to initialise, so I can't use a .pth file. I also recently tried the following code at the start of the program: for pth in sys.path: fErr.write(pth) fErr.write(' to ') pth.replace('\\\\','\\') # Fix Windows 98 pathing issues fErr.write(pth) fErr.write('\n') But it can't load linecache.pyc, or anything else for that matter; it can't actually execute those commands from the looks of things. Is there any way to use built-in functionality which doesn't need linecache to modify the sys.path dynamically? Or am I reduced to hard-coding the correct sys.path?

  • "ImportError: No module named flask" - Trouble with nginx + uWSGI + Flask in a virtualenv setup

Things I've tried to solve this: set the --home (-H) option to my virtualenv folder ~/virtual_env while running uWSGI. Other info: I have the same setup working outside of a virtualenv. Things go wrong only when I try to replicate the setup inside of a virtualenv. Where have I gone wrong?

  • Eclipse+PyDev+GAE memcache error

I've started using Eclipe+PyDev as an environment for developing my first app for Google App Engine. Eclipse is configured according to this tutorial. Everything was working until I start to use memcache. PyDev reports the errors and I don't know how to fix it: Error: Undefined variable from import: get How to fix this? Sure, it is only PyDev checker problem. Code is correct and run on GAE. UPDATE: I'm using PyDev 1.5.0 but experienced the same with 1.4.8. Any idea how to force PyDev to recognize that?

  • Adding hooks to TortoiseHg

    - by hekevintran
I am using TortoiseHg and would like to apply a hook to my repo. My repo's .hg/hgrc file is as follows: [hooks] pretxncommit = python:hg_checksize.newbinsize The thing is that I don't know where TortoiseHg's PYTHONPATH variable is set. How do I change it? Or where do I put my Python file so that it is visible by TortoiseHg's Python interpreter? I cannot find any mention of hooks in TortoiseHg's documentation or through Google?

  • "Bootstrap" python script in the Windows shell without .py / .pyw associations

    - by PabloG
Sometimes (in customer's PCs) I need a python script to execute in the Windows shell like a .CMD or .BAT, but without having the .py or .pyw extensions associated with PYTHON / PYTHONW. I came out with a pair of 'quick'n dirty' solutions: 1) """ e:\devtool\python\python.exe %0 :: or %PYTHONPATH%\python.exe goto eof: """ # Python test print "[works, but shows shell errors]" 2) @echo off for /f "skip=4 delims=xxx" %%l in (%0) do @echo %%l | e:\devtools\python\python.exe goto :eof ::---------- # Python test print "[works better, but is somewhat messy]" Do you know a better solution? (ie: more concise or elegant)

  • Why does Celery work in Python shell, but not in my Django views? (import problem)

    - by TIMEX
I installed Celery (latest stable version.) I have a directory called /home/myuser/fable/jobs. Inside this directory, I have a file called tasks.py: from celery.decorators import task from celery.task import Task class Submitter(Task): def run(self, post, **kwargs): return "Yes, it works!!!!!!" Inside this directory, I also have a file called celeryconfig.py: BROKER_HOST = "localhost" BROKER_PORT = 5672 BROKER_USER = "abc" BROKER_PASSWORD = "xyz" BROKER_VHOST = "fablemq" CELERY_RESULT_BACKEND = "amqp" CELERY_IMPORTS = ("tasks", ) In my /etc/profile, I have these set as my PYTHONPATH: PYTHONPATH=/home/myuser/fable:/home/myuser/fable/jobs So I run my Celery worker using the console ($ celeryd --loglevel=INFO), and I try it out. I open the Python console and import the tasks. Then, I run the Submitter. >>> import fable.jobs.tasks as tasks >>> s = tasks.Submitter() >>> s.delay("abc") <AsyncResult: d70d9732-fb07-4cca-82be-d7912124a987> Everything works, as you can see in my console [2011-01-09 17:30:05,766: INFO/MainProcess] Task tasks.Submitter[d70d9732-fb07-4cca-82be-d7912124a987] succeeded in 0.0398268699646s: But when I go into my Django's views.py and run the exact 3 lines of code as above, I get this: [2011-01-09 17:25:20,298: ERROR/MainProcess] Unknown task ignored: "Task of kind 'fable.jobs.tasks.Submitter' is not registered, please make sure it's imported.": {'retries': 0, 'task': 'fable.jobs.tasks.Submitter', 'args': ('abc',), 'expires': None, 'eta': None, 'kwargs': {}, 'id': 'eb5c65b4-f352-45c6-96f1-05d3a5329d53'} Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/myuser/mysite-env/lib/python2.6/site-packages/celery/worker/listener.py", line 321, in receive_message eventer=self.event_dispatcher) File "/home/myuser/mysite-env/lib/python2.6/site-packages/celery/worker/job.py", line 299, in from_message eta=eta, expires=expires) File "/home/myuser/mysite-env/lib/python2.6/site-packages/celery/worker/job.py", line 243, in __init__ self.task = tasks[self.task_name] File "/home/myuser/mysite-env/lib/python2.6/site-packages/celery/registry.py", line 63, in __getitem__ raise self.NotRegistered(str(exc)) NotRegistered: "Task of kind 'fable.jobs.tasks.Submitter' is not registered, please make sure it's imported." • MySQL Utility Users' Console Oerview

    - by rudrap
MySQL Utility Users' Console (mysqluc): The MySQL Utilities Users' Console is designed to make using the utilities easier via a dedicated console. It helps us to use the utilities without worrying about the python and utility paths. Why do we need a special console? - It does provide a unique shell environment with command completion, help for each utility, user defined variables, and type completion for options. - You no longer have to type out the entire name of the utility. - You don't need to remember the name of a database utility you want to use. - You can define variables and reuse them in your utility commands. - It is possible to run utility command along with mysqluc and come out of the mysqluc console. Console commands: mysqluc> help Command Description ----------------------           --------------------------------------------------- help utilities                     Display list of all utilities supported. help <utility>                  Display help for a specific utility. help or help commands   Show this list. exit or quit                       Exit the console. set <variable>=<value>  Store a variable for recall in commands. show options                   Display list of options specified by the user on launch. show variables                 Display list of variables. <ENTER>                       Press ENTER to execute command. <ESCAPE>                     Press ESCAPE to clear the command entry. <DOWN>                       Press DOWN to retrieve the previous command. <UP>                               Press UP to retrieve the next command in history. <TAB>                            Press TAB for type completion of utility, option,or variable names. <TAB><TAB>                Press TAB twice for list of matching type completion (context sensitive). How do I use it? Pre-requisites: - Download the latest version of MySQL Workbench. - Mysql Servers are running. - Your Pythonpath is set. (e.g. Export PYTHONPATH=/...../mysql-utilities/) Check the Version of mysqluc Utility: /usr/bin/python mysqluc.py –version It should display something like this MySQL Utilities mysqluc.py version 1.1.0 - MySQL Workbench Distribution 5.2.44 Copyright (c) 2010, 2012 Oracle and/or its affiliates.
