  • TCP/IP networking working as expected, but can't access Windows Shares

    I am trying to fix a Windows 7 Pro SP1 (32 bits) computer. I have a weird problem. It was working fine until two days ago (didn't do anything weird in that day), and suddenly windows network (accessing to Windows Shares, sharing my printer) stopped working. TCP/IP networks words without issues, since I can IM, use the WebBrowser, check my email, you name it. Any ideas on how could I attempt to fix this?

I have a firewall with these simple rules: iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s 127.0.0.1/32 --dport 6000 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s 192.168.16.20/32 --dport 6000 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 6000 -j REJECT Now, suppose I am using TCPDUMP like this: tcpdump port 6000 And I have host 192.168.16.21 trying to connect to port 6000. My question is: will/should tcpdump output some packages coming from 192.168.16.21?

  • Dynamic DNS with Comcast

    I've just recently moved across town. Previously, I had Dynamic DNS set up so I could remotely connect to my desktop (primarily to use TightVNC). My ISP was Comcast and I'm in the Denver, Colorado area. Currently, I'm still with Comcast and still in Denver. My router connects to the internet just fine and my Dynamic DNS record over at DynDNS did get updated with my router's current external IP address. So my router, DynDNS, and public DNS records all agree what my IP address is. However, I can't actually connect to anything from the outside world. Even though the routes aren't EXACTLY the same, that appears to be the spot that the trace route either stops or doesn't get a response. My question is, for Comcast networks (particularly in Denver), what would be the device that typically sits there? Is there anything I can do about it? That device seems to not respond to PING but does forward it along when I'm going outwards. But it looks like it eats it when the request is coming in. It's hard to prove that from these logs but I'm assuming that's the case because my router used to accept connections from the outside and I haven't changed anything on it.

How can I access the file name extension so that output becomes : 'this is te... pdf' I could use substring method to access the last three characters but other file extensions could be 4 chars in length such as .aspx Is there a regular expression I can use so that "this is test truncation 1.pdf" becomes "this is te... pdf"

  • AnkhSVN client side pre-commit hook

    Basically I want to do the same thing as the fella over there. It seems that everybody was thinking about server-side hooks (with all their evil potential). I want a client side script be run before commit so astyle can format the code the way my boss likes to see it. Since my IDE (VS2010Pro) automatically checks when a file changed on the disk an opts me in for reloading it, there is no real evil with all that. Is there any (clean) way to accomplish that with AnkhSVN? Maybe there's also a way to extend VisualStudio to call my pre-commit-script...

It should be http://my.domain.com/feeds/latest/. For now, I am using a hack to generate the URL for the template: <a href="http://{{ request.META.HTTP_HOST }}/feeds/latest">RSS feeds</a> But, as you can see, it clearly is not DRY. Is there something I am missing?

For the most part, my profiles that use it have had their avatar icons of various sizes refreshed, except one.   • Oracle .NET Provider DLL hell

    I am currently developing on a Win7-32bits computer. Everything works fine. It's a ASP.NET application. I was able to use Microsoft's Oracle deprecated .NET provider to connect to Oracle (using 32 bit instant client) and also ODP.NET. No problems at all. Application runs fine. The problem comes when I deploy it to IIS7 on Windows 2008 Server 64bit computer. I can't get Microsoft's deprecated .NET provider or ODP.NET to work easily. Is there a straightforward way to use a 32bit based ODP.NET or Microsoft's Oracle deprecated .NET provider in Windows 2008 Server 64bits? DLL hell here! Thanks.

  • PF, load balanced gateways, and Squid

    Hi, So I have a FreeBSD router running PF and Squid, and it has three network interfaces: two connected to upstream providers (em0 and em1 respectively), and one for LAN (re0) that we serve. There is some load balancing configured with PF. Basically, it routes all traffic to ports 1-1024 through one interface (em0) and everything else through the other (em1). Now, I have a Squid proxy also running on the box that transparently redirects any HTTP request from LAN to port 3128 in 127.0.0.1. Since Squid redirects this request to HTTP outside, it should follow the load balancing rule through em0, no? The problem is, when we tested it out (by browsing from a computer in the LAN to http://whatismyip.com, it reports the external IP of the em1 interface! When we turn Squid off, the external IP of em0 is reported, as expected. How do I make Squid behave with the load balancing rule that we have set up?   • Halloween: Season for Java Embedded Internet of Spooky Things (IoST) (Part 5)

    So, here's the finished product. I have 8 networked Raspberry Pi devices strategically placed around our Oracle Santa Clara Building 21 office. I attached a JFET transistor based EMF sensor on each device to capture any strange fluctuations in the electromagnetic field (which supposedly, paranormal spirits can change as they pass by). And, I have have a Web app (embedded in this page) which can take the readings and show a graphical display in real-time. As you can see, all the Raspberry Pi devices are blinking away green, indicating they are all operational and all sensors are working correctly. But, I don't see anything... Darn... Maybe, I have to stare at the Web app for a while. I don't know when the "alleged" ghosts in our Oracle Santa Clara office are supposed to be active, but let me know if you see anything... To make everything worse, I just started using Amazon's Elastic Load Balancer, so I added the certificate to the ELB and now SSL encryption is happening three times. That's gotta be horrible for performance. What is the sane way to handle this? Should I be forwarding https on the ELB - http on nginx - http on apache? Secondly, there is so much duplication above. Is the best method to not repeat myself to put all of the static asset handling in an include file and just include it in the server?
