  • Data Store/Volume disconnecting. How to resume copy of VMDK?

    I'm having an issue with my ESXi 4.1 hosts losing the datastore with FC SAN after a power outage. All 3 hosts disconnect so it's definitely a SAN issue. I've tried to resolve the issue on the SAN side with the SAN software support and Adaptec hardware support. No luck there. So I'm stuck with a SAN that will randomly disconnect the volume. I need to get the virtual machines (VMDK files) from the datastore. The problem is I can only get 5-20% before the data store disconnects. I have backups that are slightly older that I can use to replicate the VMDK differences to. What has not worked so far: Powering up the VMs, will boot up for 5-15 minutes then freeze vCenter migrate or clone of VM, will fail after similar period of time vCenter copy/paste of VMDK. Was able to get one 30GB VMDK and no luck after that. vMware Data Recovery. Fails at low %, can't resume, so next backup starts from begining. Veeam Backup & Recovery. Same as above, no resume function. If I can just find a backup solution that will resume from the failed spot that would solve my issue. Anyone have any ideas that I could try? EDIT 1 The SAN is Open-E DSS 6 running on a Supermicro 24 drive enclosure with 4 port Qlogic FC. Adaptec 52445 RAID card.

I have read all the documentation for Iptables and i can figure out anything, the global Rejects for INPUT work well because i can access to the web page but i get a timeout for ssh. Any idea?   • No write access on Windows 2008 workgroup share

    Hi All, I'm trying to access network shares on my new Windows 2008 server (workgroup) using my server's local admin account. I can read files but not modify them. Permissions (sharing + file system) say: Users = Read only. Admins = Full Control. Even though I connect using my admin account (net use x: \\server\share /user:server\me), I can't write. OTOH, I have another share on the same computer where users have Read AND Write. I can write into that one. What's the problem? Does it have to do with UAC? TIA for your help.

    Not quite sure if this question is better asked here or on superuser.com Hi All, My Win7 Ultimate no longer 'UAC prompts' me when I open the services applet (administrative tools). I can manipulate services without ever confirming the elevation. Yes, UAC is still enabled. Yes, I've rebooted to make sure this is not due to a former UAC elevation of explorer.exe or so. It looks like a big security hole. Does anyone have an idea about the reason for this behaviour? Or how to investigate it? TIA,

  • Refreshing user's group membership in active directory without log-off/log-on

    So, when user logs in to their workstation, they receive SIDs of groups they are members of, and this is used for the length of the session, until logging off. Is there a way to refresh membership SIDs information without actually having to log off and log on again? I've added myself to a group, but can't log off without interrupting running process that requires these permissions. Don't want to have to go through these steps again...

  • VS 2008 and SQL 2008 Express

    Hi, I am trying to write a small app to connect and manipulate some data on an SQL 2008 Express database. The database is on my local machine but I can see it on the network. I am trying to use LINQ to SQL in my app. I am trying to connect to the database so I can add database model to use with LINQ but the problem is I can not see any databases inside the SQL Server, which is on my machine. I tried using Windows Auth and also tried SQL Server Auth with no luck. Can someone please assist me? What am I missing?

  • Developing a rich internet application

    Hello, I have been a desktop developer for a few years mostly doing object oriented stuff. I am trying to branch out into web development, and as a hobby project trying to put a web application together. I have been reading quite alot of information, but I still can't seem to decide on the path to take and would really like some advice. Basically, I want to build something like this: http://mon.itor.us/ I have found this as well: http://www.trilancer.com/jpolite/#t1 But so far it is of little use as I am trying to grasp Javascript. I have been using visual studio for that, is that a good IDE for this tye of thing or should I try expression blend? Jpolite seems to do everything with javascript, which seems kind of cool, but I if I want to make a chart inside a widget that connects to a database, do I need something more? Is this where ASP.NET comes in? I am familiar with .NET, but if I use ASP.NET for my website, do I have to host it on IIS and windows server as opposed to Apache since mono is still being ironed out? Because that would cost more, so would PHP be a better choice? Also, for charting these guys as well as google seem to use flex: http://www.google.com/finance I have found this: http://www.reynoldsftw.com/2009/03/javascript-chart-alternatives/ Would that be sufficient to implement something like google fiance purely in javascript or is there a good reason they use flex?     Hi everyone, i wrote some app and trying with a help of QNetworkAccessManager send some data to server using POST request, however nothing happen at all. I tried to use QHttp and the same result. I have checked it with WireShark - none requests in the list from my program. I tried to send GET request and the same - none requests. I created project with Network libs, got example from help: manager = new QNetworkAccessManager(this); connect(manager, SIGNAL(finished(QNetworkReply*)), this, SLOT(requesReply(QNetworkReply*))); QNetworkRequest req; req.setUrl(QUrl("http://server.net/upload")); manager->get(req); Please help me to find what i'm missing.   • Database design grouping contacts by lists and companies

    Hi, I'm wondering what would be the best way to group contacts by their company. Right now a user can group their contacts by custom created lists but I'd like to be able to group contacts by their company as well as store the contact's position (i.e. Project Manager of XYZ company). Database wise this is what I have for grouping contacts into lists contact [id_contact] [int] PK NOT NULL, [lastName] [varchar] (128) NULL, [firstName] [varchar] (128) NULL, ...... contact_list [id_contact] [int] FK, [id_list] [int] FK, list [id_list] [int] PK [id_user] [int] FK [list_name] [varchar] (128) NOT NULL, [description] [TEXT] NULL Should I implement something similar for grouping contacts by company? If so how would I store the contact's position in that company and how can I prevent data corruption if a user modifies a contact's company name. For instance John Doe changed companies but the other co-workers are still in the old company. I doubt that will happen often (might not even happen at all) but better be safe than sorry. I'm also keeping an audit trail so in a way the contact would still need to be linked to the old company as well as the new one but without confusing what company he's actually working at the moment. I hope that made sense... Has anyone encountered such a problem?   • Serializing MDI Winforms for persistency

    Hello, basically my project is an MDI Winform application where a user can customize the interface by adding various controls and changing the layout. I would like to be able to save the state of the application for each user. I would need to write some sort of a recursive algorithm to save all my controls, what is the best approach to do accomplish that? How would I then restore all the windows, should I use the memento design pattern for that? If I want to implement multiple users later, should I use Nhibernate to store all the object data in a database? I am still trying to wrap my head around the problem and if anyone has any experience or advice I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

    Can anybody help me with retrieving some elements from the following example text: sdfaasdflj asdfjl;a AB-12/34 BC-/85 CD-//8 DD-77 DE-78/9 EE-78-98 asdf; asdjf It is necessary to get the following elements: AB-12/34, BC-/85, CD-//8, DD-77, DE-78/9 When I'm using a regular expression like this: \s*(?<elements>\b[A-Z]{2}-[/0-9]+\b) everything works fine - all the necessary elements are being retrieved (except for the EE element are amonth them, but it doesn't matter). The problem is that this line is a part of a more complex regex, so when I'm trying to apply a regex like this: (?s).*\sas.*? \s*(?<elements>\b[A-Z]{2}-[/0-9]+\b)*.* .*as It only returns me just the first AB-12/34 element and nothing else. How to correct the regex to get all the elements? TIA.

    Hi All, I often find myself implementing a class maintaining some kind of own status property as an enum: I have a Status enum and ONE Status property of Status type. How should I solve this name conflict? public class Car { public enum Status { Off, Starting, Moving }; Status status = Status.Off; public Status Status // <===== Won't compile ===== { get { return status; } set { status = value; DoSomething(); } } } If the Status enum were common to different types, I'd put it outside the class and the problem would be solved. But Status applies to Car only hence it doesn't make sense to declare the enum outside the class. What naming convention do you use in this case? NB: This question was partially debated in comments of an answer of this question. Since it wasn't the main question, it didn't get much visibility. EDIT: Filip Ekberg suggests an IMO excellent workaround for the specific case of 'Status'. Yet I'd be interesting to read about solutions where the name of the enum/property is different, as in Michael Prewecki's answer. EDIT2 (May 2010): My favorite solution is to pluralize the enum type name, as suggested by Chris S. According to MS guidelines, this should be used for flag enums only. But I've come to like it more and more. I now use it for regular enums as well.

  • Task predecessor/dependencies logic for task management application

    Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out the logic for creating tasks that have dependencies. In short I'm building a dynamic task management system and each tasks has several options one of them is to have the task start after a predecessor. Users can add/remove/re-order (by drag&drop) tasks so I'm wondering how can I make the predecessors dynamic, here's an example of what I mean Task 1 Task 2 Task 3 - dependent of task 2 Task 4 - dependent of task 2 Tasks get renamed on delete and/or re-order. If task 1 gets deleted then 3 and 4 should become dependent of task 1 (which is the old task 2). I've been banging my head for the past few hours trying to figure out how to do that. I'm using jQuery right now and each task is contained in a div with an incremental id (ie id="task1") that gets renamed whenever a task is removed or re-ordered and I'm using a dynamically populated drop down for selecting a predecessor. What would be the easiest way to get this done?? by the way, I'm not necessarily asking for code, just trying to figure out the best way to tackle this

  • Microsoft Chart Control labels

    Hello, I've been searching for a while and browsing through the samples but could not find a solution to my problem. In Microsoft Chart Control I have created a line series that plots real-time data. As new data points are added, the chart margins will sometimes jump on the form. I have tried disabling the grid lines and have determined that the margins change when the x-axis label overlaps with the y-axis label. I have tried auto-fitting the labels but that does not seem to work probably because it treat x-axis and y-axis separately. Is there any way to prevent the overlap, or keep the labels and corresponding grid lines stationery and just change their value when the data scrolls? Thank you for your help.

My goal is to have a separate user database table in my main database. I thought that the SqlTableProfileProvider should be the solution. So I added the corresponding table into my database and changed the web.config file. When I just add a new child form and set location it seems to work fine, however when I do many in a loop they all cascade.

    Hi everyone, i tried to hide textblock's in QTextEdit, but it doesn't work: block = textedit.document().begin() block.setVisible(False) This code works fine for QPlainTextEdit, but not for QTextEdit. In documentation i haven't found any mention of how it should work for QTextEdit, just following: void QTextBlock::setVisible ( bool visible ) Sets the block's visibility to visible.
