  • Configuring Multi-Tap on Synaptics Touchpad

    I am having a hard time configuring my notebook's touchpad. The touchpad already works. It successfully responds to one-finger tap, two-finger tap and two-finger vertical scrolling. What I want to accomplish: change two-finger tap action from right-mouse click to middle-mouse click add three-finger tap functionality to yield right-mouse click action (i have checked that the three-finger tap is supported by my laptop's touchpad since it works on Windows) I read on a forum to use this as a guide. I have successfully accomplished point 1 with synclient TapButton2=2. However, I have to do it everytime I log in. I have tried to put that command on /etc/rc.local but the computer always boots and logins with the default configuration. Regarding point 2, I have tried synclient TapButton3=3 but it doesn't do anything when I three-finger tap the touchpad.   • Focus follows mouse stops working when opening window from launcher and no click to focus

    This is 12.04 default desktop (unity). I set it to focus follows mouse, and changed the menus to be on the window. This worked for a while, then some unknown even, maybe an upgrade maybe some other setting change caused it to stop working. There are many ways for this behavior to start but one reliable one is to bring a window to the foreground/focus with the launcher. Now the focus is stuck on that window and not just the window but the regions within the window so the close, maximize, minimize and menus do not work. I have to use mouse middle and then mouse right and then focus follows mouse is restored for a bit. The exact details of the mouse action aren't clear, sometimes it seems like just mouse middle helps, sometimes just right some times a desperate sequence of clicks :-( I have tried switching to the gnome desktop and it seems to occur less there but it is not eliminated. I have tried switching mice to an old wired USB mouse. I have tried creating a new account and that has not worked. I have observed "split focus" where to scroll button scrolls one one window but the input goes to another. I go trapped recently where my keyboard input went to libre office calc, but I was selecting the search term in the chrome address window. The selection "grayed" but the keyboard input for the search went to libre. Regions in windows have very confused focus. I have to work hard to get focus on for example the close gliph (X) or the minimize gliph (_).

As far as I know, normal behaviour is: Tap: Open Dash Hold: Show keyboard shortcut overlay However, the behaviour I'm experiencing is: Tap: Show keyboard shortcut overlay (after a short delay) Double Tap: Open Dash Hold: Show keyboard shortcut overlay What could cause this, and how do I fix it?     What is the time limit for two taps to be considered a double-tap, on the iPhone OS? // Edit: Why is this important? In order to handle single-tap and double-tap differently, Apple's guide says to do performSelector...afterDelay with some 'reasonable' interval on first tap (and cancel it later if the second tap is detected). The problem is that if the interval is too short (0.1), the single tap action will be performed even when double-tapping (if relying only on tapCount, that is). If it's too long (0.8), the user will be waiting unnecessarily for the single-tap to be recognized, when there is no possibility for a double-tap. It has to be exactly the correct number, in order to work optimally, but definitely not smaller, or there's a chance for bugs (simultaneous single-tap and double-tap).

    I just attempted to install OpenVPN Access Server on my Debian VPS that uses OpenVZ.   • Make Firefox left-click open in current tab, and middle-click open in new tab

    I'm sick of the inconsistent behavior of clicking on links in Firefox. I want control of where they open up. If I'm done with a page and want to replace it with the link I am clicking, I left-click. If there are things I want to look at in the future, but I'm not done with this page yet, I'll middle-click. This normally works, but there are exceptions. If the website designer uses target="_blank", my left-click is overridden and the link opens in a new tab/window. If the links are javascript, a middle-click rarely works. I get an (Untitled) tab with some javascript as the URL. etc. How do I fix these things and get consistent clicking on links?

    I'm new to Automator. I need to launch a specific application and to click on one of its buttons. I've used the "Watch Me Do" feature to register the button click but, in the Automator events log, this action is being reported as "Bring the window XXX to the front." I'm then wondering if a better way exists to "record" a button-click. The reason behind my question is linked to this: http://superuser.com/questions/148386/mac-running-an-automator-task-at-night In fact, using the "Watch me do" approach, Automator is apparently not able to perform the click action when the machine is on sleep and a password is required.     I'm just wondering why click event happening when I dbclick an element? I have this code:(JSBIN) HTML <p id="hello">Hello World</p> JavaScript document.getElementById('hello').addEventListener('click', function(e){ e.preventDefault(); this.style.background = 'red'; }, false); document.getElementById('hello').addEventListener('dbclick', function(){ this.style.background = 'yellow'; }, false); It should do different things for click and double click, but it seems when you double click on the p it catch click event in advance and ignore double click. I tried preventDefault the click event too. How can I listen to just dbclick? UPDATE I had a typo in my code. dbclick is wrong. It's dblclick. Anyway the problem still exist. When user double clicks the click event happens.   • How to Disable Touchpad tap in Toshiba Tecra R850 in Oneiric

    I know there's a lot of similar questions, but nothing I have tried here works yet - perhaps I was doing it wrong. New Laptop - Toshiba Tecra R850 with an install of Oneiric. Mostly things are working well, but I have a problem with the touchpad (or whatever it's called) - whenever I use it for moving the mouse pointer I accidentally tap on it - basically I am clicking all over the place by accident. So I want to disable the tap-as-click (after all, I have buttons for clicks too). I open up "Mouse and Touchpad" and on the Touchpad tab I check "Disable touchpad when typing" and UNcheck "Enable mouse clicks with touchpad". This does not achieve anything. The only piece of code I had which worked at all was to completely disable the touchpad by removing the driver - but that is no use since I WANT the mousing ability, just not the tap. In fact, even that would be good if I could still use the little blue stick thing and the other buttons - but it disabled them too. Tried installing touchpad indicator but it didn't seem to want to install. There were suggestions to put stuff into /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d so I edited 50-synaptics.conf and added the line Option "TapButton1" "0" But it didn't work and I'm not surprised since the place, syntax and values were all a guess really...     I am making a 2d tile based tactic game. I want the map to be slided around (because it's bigger than the screen) with FreeDrag (It's perfectly done, the map can moved around, that's not the problem). And then, I want to display the character's actions, everytime it's tapped. The problem then appeared. Everytime I want to FreeDrag the map, the Tap trigger always fired first before the FreeDrag one. Is there any way to differ the map sliding than the character tapping? Below is my code. while (TouchPanel.IsGestureAvailable) { GestureSample gesture = TouchPanel.ReadGesture(); switch (gesture.GestureType) { case GestureType.FreeDrag: { //a } break; case GestureType.Tap: { //b } break; } } Every time I first want to free drag (at the first touch), it always goes to "b" first (see commented line above), and then to "a" rather than immediately goes to "a". I've tried flick, but it seems the movement produced by flick is too fast, so freedrag fits the most. Is there any way or workaround to perform FreeDrag (or similar) without firing the Tap trigger?   • Unable to click on tabs in Firefox unless I press Command-Q

    Why does clicking on tabs in Firefox sometimes fail until I hit cmd-Q, and then why does that not quit but instead make clicking on the tabs work, and how do I stop that behavior? I'm running Firefox 3.5.5 on Mac OS X 10.5 and this has been happening for a while (with previous versions of FF as well). I can't forcibly reproduce the behavior, but every now and then (few days?) I just can't click on tabs or on the x's to close the tabs. I can still ctrl-tab between tabs, though. But if I press cmd-Q, instead of quitting, Firefox seems to seize for a second and then I can click on tabs and click to close them just fine. No clue why this is happening or how to stop it. And I do have tons of extensions installed, so it's plausible one of them is the problem..... Thanks.

  • Elantech touchpad: Right + Left click doesn't work

    This is very common problem and till yet unresolved. The Elantech driver disables right button + left button touchpad click. In the result you cannot aim and shoot in games also you cannot code that kind of interaction in your applications. Driver detects LMB+RMB click but it somehow filters it. I could not find correct entry in the registry to disable that obviously horrible setting. Please notice: 1. I have the latest drivers the problem existed with really old ones, a year old, on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 ones and current. 2. It has nothing to do with the Windows or hardware but only with the Elantech driver settings. 3. Driver detects LMB+RMB click - it is shown on a dynamic icon on a task bar also uninstalling drivers fix the problem, but then you can't use your touchpad fully.

    This occurred after a Trojan incident. We managed to get the Trojan cleaned off the computer, but now we can't Right click the desktop. We have tried changing HKCU/software/microsoft/windows/current version/policies/explorer/noviewcontextmenu in the registry, and group policy user configuration/administrative templates/windows explorer/remove windows explorers default context menu, but neither worked. How do we reenable the right-click menu for the desktop? (it works everywhere else)

How do I specify a click event that also clears out any previous click events attached to the element? I want the last $("#foobar").click(...) to erase any previously bound events.

Then start the IPTD daemon by doing modprobe tun <directory-somewhere>/ag_iptd There is also an init script 'ag_iptd.init' that can be installed to automatically start the IPTD daemon every time the OS is loaded.Please check the documentation of your Linux distribution on howto do this. so is there any way to checkif my ubuntu 12.04 kernel has support for the Universal TUN/TAP device driver? and how to do so?   • Pre-load MS Windows right-click menus and Start menu at startup

    Hello brainy people. On my WinXP SP3 laptop (1.4Ghz 1.2GB ram), after I first log in, when I right-click in Windows Explorer and choose New, the submenu can take up to 15 seconds to load, which is a pain in the ass when you want to do a quick easy operation. After the submenu has loaded the first time, subsequent loads perform instantly, obviously as the menu has been cached. My question is: can these right-click menus (and the Start menu, which also takes some time to load the first time) be pre-loaded at Windows startup? Thanks.

    I have this sample code: $myTrigger .click(function(e){ alert('click'); }) .focus(function(e){ alert('focus'); $(this).click() }) The intent is that I want something to happen when you click on $myTrigger. If, on the other hand, you tab onto it via the keyboard (ie, focus) I want the exact same thing to happen, so I ask it to click. The catch is if I click on it, it also focuses. So both alerts are going off. Is there a way to prevent the focus event from going off when clicking?

    Whe right clicking in windows that have popup menus you can hold mouse button, wait until popup appears and release above the desired item to click it. This is different from Windows that have popup appear only on mouse release. And it leads to accident menu item clicking sometimes.
