• creating a pre-menu level select screen

  Hi I am working on creating a tower Defence java applet game and have come to a road block about implementing a title screen that i can select the level and difficulty of the rest of the game. my title screen class is called Menu. from this menu class i need to pass in many different variables into my Main class. i have used different classes before and know how to run them and such. but if both classes extend applet and each has its individual graphics method how can i run things from Main even though it was created in Menu. what i essentially want to do is run the Menu class withits action listeners and graphics until a Difficulty button has been selected, run the main class (which 100% works without having to have the Menu class) and pretty much terminate Menu so that i cannot go back to it, do not see its buttons or graphics menus. can i run one applet annd when i choose a button close that one and launch the other one? • How do you set up a ubuntu server so that it can recieve and run code remotely

  I've gotten my hands on two older (i.e. ~2 years old) department towers that I came across when setting up our new workstations that I want to turn into servers that people can run code on remotely. The code would mostly consist of Python (2 and 3) and Java. Being able to run those is a must, but other languages would be nice. I thought here would be a good as place as any to ask where I would start.

• LibGDX - Textures rendering at wrong position

  Update 2: Let me further explain my problem since I think that i didn't make it clear enough: The Y-coordinates on the bottom of my screen should be 0. Instead it is the height of my screen. That means the "higher" i touch/click the screen the less my y-coordinate gets. Above that the origin is not inside my screen, atleast not the 0 y-coordinate. Original post: I'm currently developing a tower defence game for fun by using LibGDX. There are places on my map where the player is or is not allowed to put towers on. So I created different ArrayLists holding rectangles representing a tile on my map.   I had an incredibly interesting experience getting to Seattle this week. I flew out of Providence through Philadelphia. Apparently there was some smoke in one of the towers at PHL, so our flight was an hour delayed. I missed my connection by three minutes .   I have a tower built from blocks like this : Whole Tower is an array of Towers. Each Tower contains Box[] array containing single Box'es.What layout should I use for this and can you give me any tips on how to create it ? Would it be easier if I would create Grid[][] containing Box'es? But I guess I can't store Box object inside Grid array. I'm just totally confused :/

• If your algorithm is correct, does it matter how long it took you to write it?

  I recently found out that Facebook had a programming challenge that if completed correctly you automatically get a phone interview. There is a sample challenge that asks you to write an algorithm that can solve a Tower of Hanoi type problem. Given a number of pegs and discs, an initial and final configuration; Your algorithm must determine the fewest steps possible to get to the final configuration and output the steps. This sample challenge gives you a 45 minute time limit but allows you to still test your code to see if it passes once your time limit expires. I did not know of any cute math solution that could solve it, and I didn't want to look for one since I think that would be cheating. So I tried to solve the challenge the best I could on my own. I was able to make an algorithm that worked and passed. However, it took me over 4 hours to make, much longer than the 45 minute requirement. Since it took me so much longer than the allotted time, I have not attempted the actual challenge. This got me wondering though, in reality does it really matter that it took me that long? I mean is this a sign that I will not be able to get a job at a place like this (not just Facebook, but Google, Fog Creek, etc.) and need to lower my aspirations, or does the fact that I actually passed on my first attempt even though it took too long be taken as good?

• Error Message: Primary Slave Drive - ATAPI Incompatible

  So I recently switched towers and now, all of a sudden, I'm getting this error message as soon as I boot my system. The error message reads "Primary Slave Drive - ATAPI Incompatible". This has really been frustrating since there's NO Primary Slave Drive even installed in my computer!! I have one hard drive installed which is recognized as the Primary Master & a DVD Drive which is recognized as the Secondary Master. My old system ran flawlessly. I'm beginning to think maybe my motherboard is bugging out cuz I fail to understand how it can be telling me that a "nonexistent" drive is incompatible. Any suggestions??

I have no idea (not the slightest clue) as to how these things work. There's just a few questions I would like to ask: Do rack-mounter servers have OS's? • Using an old PC case and power supply as a HDD Enclosure?

  I have 5 HDD and my computer is not handling the situation very well. hehe There are some towers that I can buy to put 4 of my drives out, but I'm thinking that I could use the power source of a failed computer I have and use it to power the 4 (or at least 3) of the drives. The data cables (SATA) will remain connected to the working computer (so no USB solution). The problem is that the power source will not work unless it is connected to the failing computer motherboard. Is there any way I could use the power source without plunging it to the old motherboard? Any "HOW-TO" links may be useful as well.

  Hi all, I need to setup a bunch of accounts (~50) with Google which will later be hooked up to Analytics and the Webmaster tools and I will access them via their APIs. The problem is that Google will stop me from making accounts at a certain point because it thinks I'm spamming it. I've tried bypassing the issue by proxying through Tor, but that didn't work (I suspect the Tor nodes are already abused and blacklisted). I also drove around town with my iPhone hopping towers trying to setup accounts. Also didn't work. Phone verification also doesn't work because my phone is already linked to too many accounts... So, I figure it's time to ask. How can I continue to setup Google accounts (NOT GMail...) without being considered a spammer? If there's a service from Google to whitelist my IP, even for a fee, I would be glad to sign up for it. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

  To test a specific embedded client, I need to set up a web server serving a couple of SSL (HTTPS) sites, say "main.mysite.com" and "alternate.mysite.com". These should be handled by the same certificate, with a Subject Name of "main.mysite.com" and a Subject Alternative Name of "alternate.mysite.com". This certificate needs to be in an authority chain back to a 'proper' CA (such as GoDaddy, to keep the cost down). My question is, are there any good tutorials on how to do this, or can someone explain the process? What sort of parent certificate do I need to purchase from the CA provider? My understanding of SSL certificates is limited, but as Manuel said in Fawlty Towers, "I learn...". I'm happy to work in Windows (IIS) or Linux (Apache) (or even OSX, for that matter). • Advise on a 240,000 sqft outdoor wireless network

  I would be very appreciative of some advice in the purchase of equipment to provide a wireless network that covers the entire area of an outdoor arena. The area is rectangular-ish in shape. 400ft wide and 600ft long. It has 6 light towers, 1 on each of the 400 foot ends and 2 on each of the 600 foot ends. I can mount on anything and spend as much money as needed. The needs of the network would be to provide access for, up to 15 wireless HD cameras with audio, and a public-wifi network. Can someone point me in the right direction as far as equipment and antennas ? I can provide any additional information that you may need.

• I have static noise in my speakers and headset

  I have been having a problem with my computer where I am constantly getting static from the point I turn on my PC. I have changed Towers, Hard Drives, added and removed a Sound Blaster Xtreme Sound Card, used 3 different Headsets, and 2 sets of speakers. Lately I have noticed random dips in my frame rates when playing games. Is there any possibility that the graphics card could be causing the static with the possibility of it needing to go in for repairs? • Server 2008 Active directory file sharing Restriction

  My network scenario is: Two location connected each other through Wireless towers. 1st network ip address are 10.10.10.1 to 10.10.10.150 2nd network ip address are 10.10.10.200 to 10.10.10.254 Both location using their own ACTIVE DIRECTORY (MS SERVER 2008) and share their data with each other network through file sharing. My Problem is that every single client can explore the whole network. by simply typing \computername. i want to implement some restriction on network regarding file sharing. i want to restrict 1st Network Clients to open 2nd network Computer or server. Is there have any Group Policy or Folder permission scenario that i implement on my both network..

• Best ways to move a server room and 80 desktops to a new building

  Need to plan the best way to physically move a server room (12 IBM x3400 towers) and all associated networking equipment to a new building. Everything is going, comms (80 strong call centre operation), desktops(80-90) the whole lot and has to be done efficiently over a weekend. What I cant seem to find are the best ways to move equipment, i.e is it best to remove hard drives and pack them separetely, do I pack the chassis' with foam and/or surround them in bubble wrap? Are there specific products designed to move computer equipment and where would I find these. The internet has failed me so far, please help

• How to implement a birds eye view of 2D Grid Map using Android

  I'm a true beginner with using the android platform and I'm having difficulties on implementing a 2D grid system for a tower defense type game. Where I can place towers on a specific tile and enemies will be able to traverse through tiles etc. What I would like is a practical explanation of how I could tackle this. A step by step guide for dummies. This is what I believe are the necessary steps to take, I think I might be wrong but I hope someone could help me out. Calculate the Width and Height of the view I'm working with. Based on that, determine the number of tiles required and their dimensions, (Still not sure how I would do this) Create each tile as a Rectangle object and draw these rectangle on a canvas I would really be grateful if someone could steer me in the right direction on how to implement a 2D Grid Map using android. I hope the answer to this questions helps the TRUE beginners out there like me. I have looked at the following links below yet I still feel that I don't trully understand what's going on. • Java Applet Tower Defence Game needs tweeking

  Hello :) i have made a tower defence Game for my computer science class as one of my major projects, but have encountered some rather fatal roadblocks. here they are creating a menu screen (class Menu) that can set the total number of enimies, the max number of towers, starting money and the map. i tried creating a constructor in my Main class that sets all the values to whatever the Menu class passes in. I want the Menu screen to close after a difficulty has been selected and the main class to begin. Another problem i would really like some help with is instead of having to write entire arrays i would like to create a small segment of code that runs through an entire picture and sets up an array based on that pixels color.this way i can have multiple levels just dragged into a level folder and have the program read through them. users can even create their own. so a 1 if its yellow, a two if blue and a 3 if purple, then everything else = 0; you can download all the classes and code uif you'd like here sorry about having to redirect you but i wasn't sure how to efficently add a code spoiler. help is greatly appreciated

• Low Power Speed Monitoring

  I am aware of speed detection via gps, however as a background app, I am concerned about high power drain. I am looking to detect speed, say over 5mph, but it does not have to be accurate, say like a speedometer. Is there a low power way to detect if the phone is in motion, say by triangulation, or tracking tower strength and new/recently lost towers? I have an app design that is dependent on running in the background upon launch and knowing if the phone is in a car or not. Thanks!
