  • ASP.NET MVC ....or.... PHP, Python, Ruby, Java...?

    I’m using ASP.NET MVC in C# and jQuery as well as Ajax. A lot of other web technologies confuse me: PHP, Python, Ruby, Java (or C++) etc. What is your opinion about ASP.NET MVC? Should I choose something else? Today, everyone says, “PHP” is worldly used language..!! And that’s true!!! I’m confused, much confused about my future career. I’m worried I’m not going in right direction! Or for making my future brighter, whether I should choose something else other than ASP.NET MVC and C#. And what would that something else be? I want to be a web developer that can do everything with web (and for web). I’m worried if I’m wasting my time with ASP.NET MVC!!!

  • Google Analytics Goal Tracking for Sub-Domains?

    I am trying to track goals in Google Analytics for a website that has the goal URL on a sub-domain. The main domain for example is: domain.com and the sub-domain is my.domain.com. I have Google Analytics configured to track domains and all sub-domains and I've eve set up an advanced filter so I can see traffic to my sub-domains in Analytics. However, in goal tracking, you're supposed to put in the website URL after the front (so if it were domain.com/conversions/ you'd put in just /conversions/). However, since for me it would be my.domain.com/conversions/, how would I input that URL into Analytics to track? Would Analytics automatically determine the URL to be on the sub-domain? Thanks!

  • Can a new idea for a software project be an intellectual property?

    I have to do my final year project and I am going to do some kind of stuff that no one has yet attempted to do, though the completion of the project involves some things that have already been done but I am extending those ideas to do something that no one has yet done. In simple words I have an idea that needs combination of two ideas plus something from my own. Can I claim this idea to be an intellectual property of mine so that no one else attempts to do it while I am doing the project?If Anybody does it after my project, will he need a license from me?

  • Include all php files in one file and include that file in every page if we're using hiphop?

    I understand that in normal php if we're including a file we're merging the source of it in the script and it would take longer for that page to be parsed/processed but if we're using HipHop shouldn't it be ok to just create one single php file and include every file in it (that contains some class) and every page which needs those classes (in separate file each) can just include one single php file? Would this be ok in presence of HipHop?

  • Consoles in Ubuntu and automatic upgrade

    So I recently discovered that ubuntu is simultaneously running 6 consoles in addition to the GUI that everybody uses, which can be accessed by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 ... +F6 and then the default GUI with Ctrl+Alt+F7. What use can these consoles have when I can just open a terminal in the GUI mode? Also, why is having consoles like this advantageous for computer users; wouldn't a GUI be much more simplistic? Also, running the console told me that I was running a development version of Ubuntu Quantal which is version 12.10. The login screen (correctly?) says that I'm running 12.04 LTS. What does that mean? Thanks everybody!

    In this program the user enters the # of columns of the matrix and then the entries of the matrix. So, for example, if the user enters 2 for column # and 1 2 3 4 for entries then the program develops a 2 by 2 matrix with 1 2 3 4 as entries. My program works perfectly in such a case. However, if the user for example had only entered 1 2 3 then my program makes a matrix with garbage values. I would like the program in such a case to exit the program.   • Where do I get the source code to customize Unity?

    So one of the main reasons I migrated to Ubuntu 12.04 from Windows 7 was to be able to have more control over my system due to the flexibility and customizability of a Linux operating system. However, with Ubuntu I do not feel as if I am as in control as I can be. What I mean to say is, where are the source codes and everything for all of this that I can edit on my machine. For example, suppose I want to position my dock on the left to be on the right without wanting to install any new software. I simply want to see the GUI files and reposition it myself. How can I do that, if that's even possible? Thank You!

  • Git + GitHub + Heroku

    Hi All, I am new to the world of Git, GitHub and Heroku. So far, I am enjoying this paradigm but coming from a background with SVN, things seems a bit complicated to me in the world of Git. I am facing a problem for which I am looking for a solution. Scenario: I have setup a new private project on GitHub. I forked the private project and now I have the following structure in my branch: /project /apps /my-apps /my-app-1 .... /my-app-2 .... /your-apps /your-app-1 .... /your-app-2 .... /plugins .... I can commit the code in my Fork on GitHub from my machine in any of the folders I want. Later on, these would be pulled into the master repository by the admin of the project. For every individual application in the apps folder, I have setup an app on Heroku which is a Git Repo in itself where I push my changes when I am done with the user stories from my local machine. In short, every app in the apps folder is a Rails App hosted on Heroku. Problem: What I want is that when I push my changes into Heroku, they can be committed into my project fork on GitHub as well, so, it also has the latest code all the time. The issue I see is that the code on Heroku is a Git Repo while the folders which I have on GitHub are part of a Repo. So far, what I have researched is that there is something known as Submodule in the Git World which can come to the rescue, however, I have not been able to find some newbie instructions.     I have been trying to Hack a WPA2 Wifi and so far I am stuck with it. Problem is that it keeps trying same pin over and over again.     I have a TP-Link router with DSL service provided by a local company which serves it over the landline phone. My landline cord is plugged into an ethernet router which is then plugged into TP-Link wireless router. I can access internet with this wireless router all over my home with all computers. Landline Cord [into] Ethernet Router [into] TP-Link Wireless Router [air] Computers I would add that landline cord is also into a phone device which I use to make calls and that's not cordless. Now I am accessing internet via WiFi on my laptop and want to ask if is this possible to make landline calls via this same computer I am surfing internet through? What I am asking it to a dial-up via TP-Link router that goes through landline. You see the landline cord is the actual data gateway and is also used to make calls. So it can simultaneously send Data and Voice over the same wire.

    I need to know which MTA's is better and simple to handle and configure in linux. As I need to run a script that will send me the output of that command whenever it will run using cron. Ok the case is this. Every day I have to manually check the Disk space of server which are more than 30 which is headache and have to document that. So I will simply add the follwing command DF- H and the output of this command should be send on my email. So now IF u got the story then tell me what MTA is better sendmail, postfix and some instructions on HOW TO INSTALL and CONFIGURE it.     I have multiple document.ready functions on a page and I want a function to be called when all my document.ready functions have been executed. I simply want the function to be called at the very end, after all other document.ready functions have executed. An example of this could be that each document.ready function increments a global variable when it has been executed, and the last function needs to check the value of that variable at the very end.   • I need a regex to return true for 01.mp4

    I want to sort out specific files depending on their names, i want a regex that returns true for file names like : 01.mp4, 99.avi, 05.mpg. the file extensions must match exactly to the ones that i want and the filename must start with characters which can not be longer than 2 characters. the first part is done but the file extensions aren't working. need some help the regex that I have is /^[0-9]{1,2}\.[mp4|mpg|avi]*/ but it also returns true for 01.4mp4, 01.4mp4m.

Now I want him to give access to my whole Macbook (XCode for most) so he can do developments at his location using my macbook.     I am working on a project that is based on Urdu language in Ubuntu platform. I'm using Python language and have almost achieved my task. The problem is that, the Urdu text is rendered in reverse order. For example, consider the word ??? (which means work) consisting of the three letters: ? , ? , and ? The output is rendered in reverse order as ??? consisting of the three letters: ?, ?, and ? When copying this text to Open Office or opening the generated XML file in Firefox, the generated result is absolutely desired. I Am using Python 2.6 IDLE, its working perfect with Windows platform, which clearly shows its not the problem of IDLE. Am working on TKINTER GUI library. How can this problem be solved?
