  • VMware or Xen support for AIX on pSeries architecture

    I tried to find an explicit confirmation on VMware website if there is any chance we could virtualize AIX running on pSeriese architecture (P5, P6 and P7), but in vain. so far we have only one product available which is PowerVM (IBM Product) but we are trying to find alternative solutions to evaluate pros and cons before taking any action. Even Xen mentions the support for Power PC but for Linux not AIX. I hope someone could give an insight on this matter.

I prefer the free software, since I can have multiple applications protecting against different threats. With paid software I feel like I have to choose just one, and hope it can protect against everything. Is it worth it to pay for security when there are free options?

  • How to run commands when mac is idle and when it resumes

    I want to run script when my mac is idle (for example after 5 minutes or screen saver start time is also ok) and when I resume it from idle state. I know that I can write daemon using NSDistributedNotificationCenter and com.apple.screenIsLocked and com.apple.screenIsUnlocked, but I hope that there is already solution without creating new daemon. I need this to for example turn on/off speed limit for Transmission (as it is sometimes hard to work when hashing/downloading on full speed).

  • Better layout of Expose on Leopard

    Is it possible for Expose on Mac OS X Leopard to arrange the preview windows in a more optimal manner? After a while on superuser, opening up a new windows for each question that interests me, Expose looks like this: It is of minimal value seeing each preview is so small. I have no hope in hell seeing the contents of each windows. Is there some secret setting or 3rd party application that could fix this for me?

    I downloaded garageband from mac app store but something happend with my internet connection - probably connection crashed - and downloading (or installing) stopped. When apps instalation didnt start, then I cklicked on install button at Mac AppStore. In Launchpad was created new icon of garageband which was downloaded again and internet connection crashed again.   • Rsync: windows 7, synology: login error and permission denied error

    Good day to all of you all, I'm running into strange/stupid errors, and I hope anybody would be so kind to help me out. I have to admit, I am by no means a guru, so please bear with me :-) Situation: -Synology NAS (runs Linux), and Windows 7 desktop (1 normal/restricted user Lisa and 1 admin user). - Data from W7 desktop to be rsynced to synology: /volume1/home/Lisa/Backup - Rsync command: c:\cygwin\bin\rsync -avz /cygdrive/e/Lisa/ [email protected]:/volume1/homes/Lisa/Backup - I've set up ssh per these two threads: a. http://www.cesareriva.com/archives/102 b. http://www.cesareriva.com/archives/112 Now the horrors begin: - root is allowed to run the rsync succesfully, however, he doesn't login automatically (so I can not use rsync in W7 batchscripts, which is of course required). - Lisa is allowed to login automatically but he can not succesfully finish the rsync command because of permission errors: rsync change dir /volume1/homes/Lisa/Backup failed: permissions denied. This happens for each and every file and subdir rsync tries to create. However, the main directory (Backup) is created. When I try to copy files from windows explorer to the directory 'Backup' using the very same user Lisa everything goes smoothly. So, obviously, there is a permission problem somewhere; either my rsync-command isn't correct, or the folder permissions for homes/Lisa aren't correct (but, then again, Windows 7 copies files to that folder without any problems, so that does make me believe the homes/Lisa-permissions don't appear to be the problem). I also tried adding: --chmod=Dugo+x --chmod=ugo+r which I found somewhere on the web, to the rsync-command, but this didn't solve any problem and gave the exact errors. Would anybody please please help me on how to fix this? I am utterly frustrated about this, because I have been trying for 1 month to get everything to work and it simply doesn't work. I bought the big Synology to end the horrors of 20 external USB-disks for once and for all (we have many pictures and home vids of our deceased dogs and want to watch these, the horrors being 'what material is on what disk'). I'll gladly return the favour of somebody helping me out by buying you a nice beer (paypal), if you could end my misery. I am not extremely skilled on Linux (not at all :-( ) so if you could give an extra word when possible so I understand what to do, I'd be very grateful.     I have a problem regarding how to kill a process in cygwin on windows. I am completely new to cygwin. But i have a task that i simply cant kill. i have tried issuing the following commands: kill 4568 kill -9 4568 /bin/kill -f 4568 I have issued the commands in a separate cygwin terminal since i cant CTR-C it in the cygwin terminal where the process run. I have searched all over the internet without success :( hope someone can help thanks :)

  • Slow Query log for just one database

    can I enable the slow query log specifically for just one database? What I've done currently is to take the entire log into excel and then run a pivot report to work out which database is the slowest. So i've gone and done some changes to that application in the hope of reducing the slow query occurence. rather than running my pivot report again which took a bit of time to cleanse the data i'd rather just output slow queries from the one database possible?

  • How to maximise a window within a Windows remote desktop session

    I'm logged in to a Windows 7 machine from a Windows 7 desktop, using the standard Remote Desktop client. Is there a key short cut to maximise a window within the remote desktop session (equivalent to Windows+up arrow)? I want the remote desktop session to NOT be full screen on my client machine, but to easily maximise windows on the remote session to the full size of the remote desktop window. Hope that makes sense. ;)

    I just had trouble running VMWare player (version 3.1.0 build-261024) on Win 7 and got this error: Error while powering on: The following error occurred when starting VMware Player.W32AuthConnectionLaunch: Reply error "The system cannot find the file "" (code: 3).". I Googled the error and turns out the fix is to run VMWare Player as Administrator. I decided to paste the error and fix here so this site would also include the fix :) (I hope this get's indexed by google)

    I can find plenty of information on how to clear Google Chrome's recent browsing data, in various periods, as well as clearing all browsing data. But I want to clear old browsing data—say for a start, anything over two months old. (I'm trying to save space on a crowded laptop.) Does anyone know any principled way to do this, or shall I just dive into ~/.config/google, start removing likely-looking files, and hope for the best. I run Google Chrome on Debian Linux.

    My computer stopped working the other day, I came down and it was kind of chriping away then when I restarted it it only did the same thing, I unplugged everything not needed and it did nothing at all, I thought maybe powersupply but when I took cover off the green light on MB was on and powersuppy is making little buzz sound, but nothing happens when I turn com on other than the green light on MB flickers a bit, I checked memory in other com and it works fine, love to be able to fix with as litttle cost as possible, hope someone here can help...   • Remove c:/windows/syswow64/msxml4.dll

    A program has installed c:/windows/syswow64/msxml4.dll on my hard drive. Sadly this is an old version (4.30.2100.0) with a security problem therefore I really wants to remove the file and the program that installed it. MSXML4 is not in the list of programs that I can uninstall under "Programs and features". Is there a way to find the program that installed it in windows 8.1? Hope some of you can help.

  • XP User account cannot write to USB

    Is there a local security policy setting or somesuch to allow limited user accounts to modify the contents of USB drives? Currently I get an "Access denied" error, further saying "Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." The Administrator account has no such obstacles. Update: The problem is at least solvable by altering NTFS permissions (granting Full Control to Users), and therefore I'm losing hope that there is a more global solution.

    Hi All, I have a Telerik RadEditor on the sharepoint and iam unable to edit the webpart. How can i edit the webpart, please suggest. The “Edit” option is not visible although i have clicked on “edit page” from site actions. IMP:- the webpart uses 3 images all of which are of size 567X113 pixels.
