• Wireless Broadcom 4313 not working on Ubuntu 12.04

  It seems a lot of people are having this problem, but none of the posted solutions have worked for me so far. My driver is installed and activated, I have tried removing and re-adding the network, and various other fixes. No networks were picked up on my first boot, the next day wireless worked fine, and since then it does not detect networks, and when I manually try to connect, it repeatedly asks for the password and does not connect. • Intel Centrino Wireless N 1000 doesn't work on a Lenovo Z560

  I upgraded my Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 and my Wifi has stopped working. I have a Lenovo Z560 that has Intel centrino wireless-N 1000. I have searched various threads having similar problems for a solution and have no success. The wlan0 is not even showing up in rfkill. Please help me find a solution. • Ubuntu boots to orange screen after install

  I have a problem in which I boot my computer and everything works normally, I see a purple screen with various partitions to select such as my Windows 7 and Ubuntu partitions. When I select the Ubuntu one, my computer boots to an orangish screen and plays what sounds like a drum sound once.   On 12.04 64-bit, about every 5 seconds my screen blinks twice. Even during installation of Ubuntu from CD, this happens during the complete process.   On my older system i ran the 32 bit version of Ubuntu with 4 GB of ram and noticed it rarely come near 1 gig of usage.I have my new system running with the 64 bit version.The new system is a quad core with 8 GB of ram and Ubuntu is using 1 gig now.Is this normal?I have run top and noticed certain processes such as compiz,xorg and lightdm seeming to be using a lot.I also upgraded in my new system with an msi radeon hd6450 graphics card that s supposed to have 2 gigs on it.

• Gnome-Shell Logout

  The latest version of Gnome-shell starts to display (the top bar appears briefly) but I then get logged out. This happens when I start it with "gnome-shell --replace". Any idea how to make it behave properly? Laptop is a MSI U21, an0d I run with a 'nomodeset' startup option. Without this option the screen clears to just wallpaper and stays that way. • Partitoning to install Ubuntu but already have 4 main partitions

  I want to install Ubuntu alongside of Windows, but there's a 4 primary partitions limit. So there's: BIOS_RVY (10GB) System (100MB) (Windows) (C:) Windows (D:) Data I'm not sure what to do in this situation. This is my girlfriend's laptop and she doesn't want to remove MSI's pre-installed recovery partition, even though I'm pretty sure she's never used it. What is it exactly? Also, does Grub render Windows's "System" partition redundant?

• Cannot access Windows via grub after new dual-boot Ubuntu install

  I previously installed Ubuntu on a computer that had Windows XP on it and got it successfully to run alongside it. (access both OS systems) Now I installed Ubuntu again on my MSI notebook with Windows 8.1, and I cannot access the GRUB without hitting escape on startup, and even then, I can no longer open windows. Before all of this, I created a recovery point, file history and saved a back up on a external hard drive incase I did anything wrong. Now how can I revert my computer back to it's state before installation.

• How to create an MST for silent install using Orca?

  Hi. I'm trying to deploy 7zip via GPO; I assigned the original MSI, but the package installation simply doesn't take place. What I've gathered is that I need to create an MST. In the spirit of trying to learn as much as possible about it, I've opted to use Orca rather than a third-party automagic tool, but I'm at a loss as to which fields to edit. So far the only change that I've made is to give the license accepted checkbox a value of "1" instead of pointing to another key that, still, just gave it a value of "1." So, to give this some structure, How does (Or what criteria should I consider) creating a MST make the install noninteractive/silent? Do you have to manually reconfigure the MSI to simply not perform the GUI aspects? Or do I have to execute the program in silent mode after defining the variables the the installer requests? (Though, of course, it seems that would defeat the purpose of the MST) How do I determine which fields I need to edit? I've loaded the installer and it takes three inputs: License acceptance, feature set and installation location. I want all of the default values: I'm just trying to deploy it at all, not customize the installation. I BELIEVE that I should be messing with some values in the Registry table, but I really don't know. If I'm not asking the right questions, can someone point me to a THOROUGH resource or documentation for this process? I've already gone over the technet articles on basic Orca use and deployment, but I couldn't really find anything on creating MST that didn't involve a third party program in which one runs a 'dummy' installer to get the before and after snapshots. Thank you very much, Cameron UPDATE: After spending the day troubleshooting, I finally got my server to send out 7zip, but not until I had also assigned firefox.   This morning I noticed the text in Gmail (in Firefox 4) looked a little funny (kind of thin, maybe some color fringing). I went to work and thought it might be some ClearType issue or something with the way Direct way that FF4 draws to the screen. When I came back from work (I left the computer on), the problem was much worse - way beyond ClearType nit-picking. The text was barely readable. I opened Chrome and there was no such problem. It seems like only Windows that use hardware acceleration are garbled, and ones that use GDI are not. But, I fired up Dragon Age and didn't notice any problems (I only really looked at the main menu though). Here is a link to a screen shot that illustrates the problem. Notice how the Windows Live Mesh window is completely unreadable, the text in Firefox 4 (left) is pretty bad, while Chrome, the Windows Control Panel, and the task bar are perfectly fine. The fact that the problem shows up in screen shots and that it only happens in certain Windows makes me confident that the problem cannot be with the monitor or DVI cable. I am using the AMD Radeon drivers from 4/27/11. The card I have (MSI Frozr II) came with a slight overclock (810Mhz) out of the box, but it looks like when I'm on the Windows desktop it's not running at full clock (CCC reports 450Mhz). Still, I underclocked it to the stock reference clock (800Mhz) and it made no difference. The idle temperature according to Afterburner is 42-44 Celsius, which seems a tad high but not enough to cause a problem - it's cold to the touch if I open up the machine. What the heck could be causing this? The problem varies in intensity. As we speak I'm in Firefox and things look better than they did earlier - it'll probably get worse again soon. • Asus K50I sound issues

  I have an Asus K50IJ (Bestbuy) laptop and have issues with my sound. Speakers themselves work fine but when I plug into the headphone jack it auto mutes the front channel and no sounds comes out of either the speakers or the headphones. If I then unmute the channel I get sound from both the speakers and the headphones. alsamixer shows the Headphone channel as all grayed out. /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf I have tried snd-hda-intel model="asus-laptop" and snd-hda-intel model="asus" In Sound Preferences I have gone to output and changed the Connector to 'Analog Headphones' that results in no sound from either speakers or headphones.
