  • localhost name error with linux machines

    Hi, CASE 1: I have a Ubuntu machine with name midhun.local I can access this in http://midhun.local/svn ... But its can't access from other machines(both Windows and Linux) through this host name. But it works with http://192.168.1.192/svn CASE 2: I have a another machine(windows) having the host-name myname:555 In this case i can access https://myname:555/svn from other windows machines with the same URL. But if am trying to access from the a Linux machine it will not work with the same URL instead of that https://192.1.168.111:555/svn will work. How can I solve the problem. I need to access via the same name from cross domain. How is it possible in LAN Thanks in advance!!

  • How to host a simple website using a domain name I own

    I'm familiar with hosting webapps when I'm doing "the whole shebang" of installing / configuring / setting up Apache/Tomcat/PostreSQL / "coding" the website myself using HTML / JSP / CSS etc. on dedicated servers I'm renting. But in the above case, I'm "owning" the entire stack: from the Debian GNU/Linux dedicated servers to every single file that is served. Now I'd like to do something much simpler and I must admit I don't know what's involved at all. I'd like to host a simple website made of only a few static pages (no database, no nothing) and I'd like it to be accessible from "example.com". What needs to be technically done to have such a thing? How is the DNS supposed to be set up? Note that I do not want to host this on one of my dedicated servers.

    I am currently running a linux bridge in the following configuration ADSL Modem: 192.168.1.1 Linux Bridge: eth0: 192.168.1.2 eth1: no address Wireless Router: 192.168.0.1 My issue is that i cannot access the "Linux Bridge" shares using the WINS name of the server via client systems (yes i understand it is a transparent bridge but i can access it via the 192.168.1.2 address this is not on the same subnet as the client systems).     What are some solutions to access Windows by its computer name from Linux and Mac using TCP/IP. That is, from terminal I want to be able to ping my Windows PCs using its host name. My setup is: Various machines running Ubuntu, Windows XP and OS X. Networked using a consumer grade wireless router which provides DHCP. The only DNS is the ISP's, which resolves Internet names and not local host names. The Windows machines can ping each other by name. The Ubuntu and OS X machines can only ping Windows by IP address (name doesn't work).

    I'm trying to connect to a SQL instance (default instance) on a machine. When using the IP of the machine it connects to the machine. Using the name of the machine on that machine you are able to establish a connection to the SQL instance but using the machine name on another PC the connection cannot be established. And gives the error A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. ... (Microsoft Server, Error: 10060) The machine that I am trying to establish the connection from can ping the machine with the SQL instance both on the IP and on the name. Why would this be and how can I fix it? Edit: pinging the name does resolve the correct IP. Pinging the FQDN also works correctly.

My question is how do we change the address from www.example.com to blog.example.com. I read this http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=83106 and it said make sure your site is main not a subdomain but I'm trying to move the site to a subdomain. Help.

    I have registered with dyndns domain for my dynamically changing public ip address to use with iptable rules. On a server I've allowed some ports for this domain in the iptables configuration like the below entries: -A INPUT -s mycompany.dyndns.com -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -s mycompany.dyndns.com -p tcp -m tcp --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -s mycompany.dyndns.com -p tcp -m tcp --dport 21 -j ACCEPT But when ever my modem restarts, I couldn't connect to these allowed ports as public ip changes with modem restart and are not updated in the iptables on the server. Is there any option to automatically update iptable rules on server.

  • Trick Ubuntu into resolving a domain name locally

    I have an Ubuntu box that I use for all sorts of things. One thing I really want to do is redirect a sub domain to a local script. For example thisbit.example.com should actually show the content from localhost/~USER/FAKE.thisbit.example.com/ which is a folder that Apache is running for me which contains a very simple PHP script which implements an offline version of a server script that I am testing against. But example.com should continue to behave normally as should notthisbit.example.com etc. Ideally I need to be able to switch from testing to live with minimal fuss when the time comes.

    Hi, normally i connect to my sql server instance from my local computer, and then the server name to connect to is the name of my laptop. So i can connect to server instance 'MichelLaptop' But now i'm trying to connect to my server from outside my network, and the first thing i wonder is: what is the name of the instance? i've made a redirect to my local machine in the DNS of my domain, so i said (this is not the real data) testsql.mydomain.com goes to 190.191.192.193 and when i ping testsql.mydomain.com, i get a response from 190.191.192.193 But what then is the server name?

    Gitosis is able to authenticate users based on public/private key pair. It is able to find out which user is currently committing. However, the user name and email is taken from the client's Git configuration ('git config user.name' etc.), which can be set to arbitrary values. Is there any way to associate user names and emails with their public keys and then make Gitosis uses these names and emails as the name and email of the committer?

    Hello i have been working on a part of my plugin that has waypoints allowing the user to create delete etc. I got to thinking after using and seeing a couple of the disguse plugins. That maybe i could create a command toggle that would show the user where the waypoints they have are! I know how to do all of this i just have no idea how to display a nameplate to the client. I know its possible because disguisecraft does it i tried looking though their code but couldent find much... I belive to get this effect i need to send packets to the client if someone can direct me to a list of bukkit packets or even a solution to sending the client a custom located nameplate that would be fantastic!     At the present moment I have a website hosted on example.com/myWebsite, where example.com hosts in its root directory a different website. I have the domain example.net, which redirects to example.com/myWebsite. The point, however, that right now when somebody accesses example.net they are redirected to example.com/myWebsite and consequently to example.com/myWebsite/dirA, example.com/myWebsite/dirB etc.. I am now thinking about upgrading my account so that example.net no longer redirects to example.com - I was however wondering, however, since Google shows results searches in terms of example.com/myWebsite, how would this affect my rankings?

  • How to change the computer name on a server configured by Puppet

    I am new to Puppet and I'm trying to get Puppet to configure my EC2 instances after they're started from a Cloud Formation Template in AWS. The problem is that all the nodes that get started from the Cloud Formation Template all have the same name (the name from the AMI that the new nodes derive from). I would love to find a way to have puppet rename the nodes when the nodes start up. (although, as far as I know, a Computer Name change requires reboot, a separate issue...) If you can point me to some documentation that can help me figure this out or if you have any ideas that would be great. My ultimate goal is to have each EC2 start with a unique name so that I can use New Relic server monitoring to report the different servers.
