    I need to read some .docx files and the standard 3.0.1 version of OpenOffice writer that comes with Unbuntu 9.04 just ain't handling it. I tried the instructions from the following site: http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Install-OpenOffice-org-3-1-on-Ubuntu-9-04-111105.shtml, both the GUI steps in the main article, and a scripted version in one of the comments, but my system never seems to do the partial update, and the OpenOffice version is unchanged after I uninstall and reinstall it from the command line. Has anybody had similar problems?

  • Fixing Master Boot Record From Linux After Windows Corrupts It

    I bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, and setup Ubuntu 10.04 to dual boot alongside Windows 7. Regrettably, when activating the wireless, I did something in Windows 7 that caused it to overwrite or corrupt the master boot record, so now when I reboot I get the message "No bootable devices found". Is there an easy way to fix this, perhaps via a Linux LiveCD, or do I have to wipe out everything and reinstall?

Somebody accidentally loaded the instance incorrectly, so I was hopping to uninstall and reinstall. But when I approach the uninstall process, it fails with the following msg: Object reference not set to an instance of an object SQL instance not yet clustered (FYI) Any idea?

    I've used xlite for a while now but all of the sudden the internal mic from my mac stopped to work with it. It does call, and you can see the red bar rising but the other person can't hear a thing. The mic does work when using Skype so I think it's a problem with Xlite Things I've already tried: Reconfigure Xlite Reinstall Xlite Install Xlite Beta (After every step I rebooted the macbook) Obviously none of them worked.     I have a computer with (presumably unlicensed) Windows XP. The activation (over the internet) failed, and I now I cannot get into Windows. After calling Microsoft, it seems like I will have to reinstall everything and install a freshly bought operating system. What are my options here? Is it worth trying the millions of keys and key generators out there? EDIT: I have no way of contacting the manufacturer (it's a no-name box, definitely not Dell, HP or IBM).

What I mean by image is a snapshot of all of my programs, settings,files, everything, i think this is referred to as a ghost image. I want to be able to restore so I do not have to reinstall everything again. Does the backup/restore utility in Windows Server 2008 R2 do this?

  • KeePass does not offer `Open with Google Chrome`

    I'm using KeePass and Google Chrome (not plug-ins) for quite some time. I have reinstalled my operating system (Windows 7) and both KeePass and Google Chrome and since then, when I right-click an entry and chose URL I don't have the Open with Google Chrome option - only internet explorer is available. Seems like KeePass did not recognize Chrome - any idea how to fix it? I re-installed KeePass but did not reinstall Chrome yet.

    I have installed iOS 6 beta, when it was released, in this summer. Yesterday, I have a screen on my iPhone, that activation is required. But, it is impossible to activate, because "servers is unaviable".   • NK2 files doesn't keep the email addresses in memory

    When I send an email to someone outside the firm, when I only type the first letters of its name (Contact), I get the auto-suggest of the "Already-sent" users. So now, since a few days, the emails are not kept in memory by Outlook (NK2 file). I see that that file is only 2kb and on my old machine, it's almost 200kb (So a lot more email addresses kept in memory) Should I just rebuilt the Outlook profile or the whole Windows Profile? A simple Outlook reinstall or to build a new PC?

    I am currently trialling an install of Windows Server 2008R2 + SQL Server 2008 R2 using license keys from my company's TechNet subscription. If the trial is successful, I'd like to bring the server into production as is (there's a lot of config needed for it that I don't want to repeat) so my question really is is it possible to change the Windows and SQL server licenses from TechNet ones to "proper" volume licenses and legally use the server in production? Or do I have to reinstall everything with volume licences?

    i had a failed SP1 install... now im stuck with the system trying (and failing) to finilize instalation @boot, the system after log-in thinks its SP1 SP1 uninstaller says it cant uninstall SP1 installer says allready installed SP2 installer says install SP1 is there a way to remove SP1 information, fool the system to think it doesnt have service pack and install it again ? i REALLY dont want to reinstall windows. that would suck so badly that id rather stick with this pre-SP1 relic...

  • How do I preserve ownership permissions when copying to an external volume?

    When I upgrade or reinstall linux I backup my home folder by running sudo cp -pr /home/users/yitzchak /media/externalHDD/backups. When I do this I get errors saying that permissions could not be preserved and when I copy the folder back onto my local disk I see that ownership has been changed to root and I have to chown all of them back, which has to be done manually piecemeal because not all files have the same group. Is there any way around that?
