    I rebooted my esx 4 server today and was greet by a single bit of text that said GRUB and it hung. I am attempting to restore the MBR GRUB partition, but am having difficulties. All i have is the ESX 4 installation ISO. Can someone help me with the procedure to make this work?

  • Windows 7 Not Booting After Moving Partition

    I have a Sony Vaio laptop. After using GParted to move the primary Windows partion, the laptop no longer boots, saying 'Operating system not found'. I don't have a recovery disc and the only other machine I have access to is a Mac Mini. I have tried creating a bootable USB using the recovery ISO from Microsoft. I can see all the files on the USB stick from my Mac. I followed the instructions here: http://borgstrom.ca/2010/10/14/os-x-bootable-usb.html I have set the laptop BIOS boot order to be 'External' first, but the laptop refuses to boot from the USB stick. I have previously been able to boot from a linux installation on the USB stick. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

    I recently installed a utitlity for Windows (ASUS Ai Charger) which modifies the USB ports on the computer to output more power (for charging iPads, etc). The problem is, I believe it is also giving more power to my keyboard and trackpad. And now, neither devices are working at all, yet they work on Mac OS X. So does anyone know the amount of power MacBook Pro (2007) keyboards and trackpads use, and how I can set these settings in Windows 7?

  • DNS Issue- Nameserver Issue

    I setup new server on centos 5.3 and configure dns and hostnam using WHM. I also register my new nameservers with my domain registrar with ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com. But i am unable to ping hostname and NS. ping pc2.example.com or ping ns1.example.com I received the below email from server. IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email. Your hostname (pc2.example.com) could not be resolved to an IP address. This means that /etc/hosts is not set up correctly, and/or there is no dns entry for pc2.example.com. Please be sure that the contents of /etc/hosts are configured correctly, and also that there is a correct 'A' entry for the domain in the zone file. Some or all of these problems can be caused by /etc/resolv.conf being setup incorrectly. Please check that file if you believe everything else is correct. You may be able to automatically correct this problem by using the 'Add an A entry for your hostname' option under 'Dns Functions' in your Web Host Manager. When I issue the command root@pc[~]# host pc2.example.com I receive the below error that Host pc2.example.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) I added A entries for hostname and Nameservers but nothing replies. Its almost more than 72 hours for setting & registering nameservers and dns configurations. thanks,

  • How to create reusable fields in Word

    I would like to create reusable fields that I can type in, then reuse those fields throughout the document without having to retype them. As an example, I have a cover sheet that contains "Title", "Document ID", "Version Number", and "Published Date". I used the MACROBUTTON trick to create a field that someone can just click on and type, but I don't see how I can re-use what is typed in other parts of the document (such as putting the Document title in the header). I've found something called "fill-in" fields, which don't seem to be what i'm looking for, and "ASK" fields, but that creates a dialog that you have to enter the information into. I'm trying to create a generic template for my documentation needs. Can anyone suggest a method to do what I am looking for?

    I'm having a huge problem getting mod_mono and apache configured to work correctly. I've had this working at one time, but I can't seem to figure out where i'm going wrong. I'm using mono-server4. I'm trying to use a seperate port from the main website. So I have in /etc/apache2/sites-available (with a link from sites-enabled) a vhost configuration that looks like this: <VirtualHost *:9999> ServerName XXX ServerAdmin web-admin@XXX DocumentRoot /var/xxx MonoServerPath XXX "/usr/bin/mod-mono-server4" MonoDebug XXX true MonoSetEnv XXX MONO_IOMAP=all MonoApplications XXX "/:/var/xxx" <Location "/"> Allow from all Order allow,deny MonoSetServerAlias XXX SetHandler mono SetOutputFilter DEFLATE SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI "\.(?:gif|jpe?g|png)$" no-gzip dont-vary </Location> <IfModule mod_deflate.c> AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml text/javascript </IfModule> </VirtualHost> I used mono-server4-admin to create the application mono-server4-admin --path=/var/xxx --app=/XXX --port=9999 When i start apache, it gives the error: Syntax error on line 13 of /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/xxx: Server alias 'XXX, not found. This corresponds with the MonoSetServerAlias statement. So I commented it out, and when I do that apache starts. However, when I try to access the site, I get a 500 error. The access log indicates that it's trying to access the app on port 80, rather than 9999. I'm not sure what the problem is here. Can anyone help me get figure out where I went wrong?     I need to monitor some ftp servers for any changes in file structure, things that I need to monitor is how many times an file is downloaded (not sure if possible), if files are changed or not, if files are deleted or not, if ftp server still exists, i would like this to be something that i can run server=side and would like a sms message or email if any of the above changes have occured any one have any experience or would recommend an particular language or script? thanks just for reference, i don't want to install an ftp server, i just want something to help me monitor other remote ftp servers by periodically logging in

  • MacBook (13 in. Aluminum late 08) power adapter starting to fail

    I have a MacBook (Late '08 13 In. Aluminum) with the Apple provided power adapter. I think it may be failing because It takes a little moving around with the cable nearest where it connects to the MacBook to get it to charge (small light turns on). The area of cable nearest the MacBook gets very hot, almost burning. Any ideas of how I could fix it? Hopefully without replacing the adapter. Thanks in advance!

    I have this problem that even before booting into Win7, my laptop gets stuck in a black screen with a blinking keyboard cursor on it. It happened after I formatted one of my other partitions. I have tried everything including bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, and I have even tried using Ubuntu grub to boot windows but unfortunately even grub does not identify my Windows installation. I really don't want to do a reinstalltion of Windows...

  • How to diagnose RAM?

    I have a java process that is aborted after a while with SIGSEGV. It started to happen after I upgraded the server with more RAM. Having tested on different JVMs I suspect it might be a hardware problem. But no problem was detected by memtest86. So, what else can I do to detect the source of the problem is? Should I take the RAM modules one by one to detect the faulty module? The server is running on 64bit OpenSuse11.3. The memory is not an ECC one it seems.   • Installing FreeNAS 8.3 problems

    I'm trying to install FreeNAS 8.3 on some desktop-level hardware (AMD Phenom + 890FX + 16GB) and I've been unsuccessful. I initially tried using a USB stick and followed the instructions on the FreeNAS site here. Making the USB was simple as the instructions laid out, but as soon as the USB is detected (during the boot process) some text appears and quickly vanishes and my machine reboots infinitely. After trying several different was to make the USB, I tried using a DVD-ROM but again, I had the same issue as the USB stick. This leads me to conclude that either a BIOS setting is incorrect but I have no idea which one. I've changed the BIOS to not "fast" boot per se, and I've correctly configured the boot order per USB stick and the DVD-ROM drive so I know that it's working. Have I missed anything that might be causing this problem? I'm not a FreeBSD/FreeNAS expert by any means.
