    I am creating a Blackjack Card game emulator. I am a SCJP,familiar with Core Java concepts. I have a very basic understanding of Java swings and awt. Already finished writing the basic game logic,a CLI logic. My design includes several classes like, Dealer,Player,Table,Card,Casino and some others.. Enums for Cards and suite. I have read about MVC as a theoretical concept, familiar with the name 'design patters'(no understanding whatsoever as to how they are implemented) Everywhere I am suggested to learn while writing some real code.So I started off with this... I am stuck now, how should I go about writing code for my project?? Writing the GUI code and organising it within the already existent code.

  • How do I make my custom Swing component visible?

    I have no idea why it won't show. First I create an instance of the component and then add it to a certain element in a two-dimensional JPanel array. Then I loop through that array and add each JPanel to another JPanel container which is to hold all the JPanels.   • Swing invokeLater never shows up, invokeAndWait throws error. What can I do?

    I have this code: try { SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(new Runnable() { public void run() { try { dialog.handleDownload(); } catch (IOException io) { io.printStackTrace(); } } }); } catch(Exception io) { io.printStackTrace(); } in the handleDownload I'm reading an inputstream, calculating a progress bar's value, and setting it to that. So, when I click a button, a new JFrame opens up and does all the stuff I wrote above. If I have the dialog.handleDownload by itself ( in no SwingUtilities method ), it freezes until the operation is finished. If I add it in a invokeLater it's closed very fast ( I can't see anything, and the operation is not finished ). If I add it in a invokeAndWait I get the invokeAndWait cannot be called from the event dispatcher thread error. What should I do?

  • Should I use Java for a custom Swing component designed for a clojure app?

    I want a simple timeline component (like in video editing software) for a clojure/seesaw app and I am wondering if it is a good approach to implement this directly with clojure and seesaw or if I should write it in java and make my clojure wrapper around it. Or more generally: is a functional programming language optimal for writing UI widgets? I cannot imagine doing that without a lot of state involved. And wasn't OO invented for UI-development in the first place?

How would I create CellRenderers to display it like this. table.getColumnModel().getColumn(1).setCellRenderer(new DateRenderer()); I also want to add the whole row to be painted in red when the date is later then the current date. And then another column that holds a JButton to open up another screen with the corresponding Appointment as parameter.

  • Is there a Swing JPanel toolbar background that fits all OSs?

    I'm using a JPanel to have a toolbar on my background, but I don't like the look of it. Actually, there's basically no look, no background and the buttons are flat when the mouse is not over them. This is on Windows. How can I have a better look for this? Something that would fit better on Windows? Maybe something like the ToolStrip in Visual Studio? Or maybe something better that would look much better depending on the OS version (Windows, Mac, Linux)? Suggestions?

  • Java/Swing: JTable.rowAtPoint doesn't work correctly for points outside the table?

    I have this code to get a row from a JTable that is generated by a DragEvent for a DropTarget in some component C which may or may not be the JTable: public int getRowFromDragEvent(DropTargetDragEvent event) { Point p = event.getLocation(); if (event.getSource() != this.table) { SwingUtilities.convertPointToScreen(p, event.getDropTargetContext().getComponent()); SwingUtilities.convertPointFromScreen(p, this.table); if (!this.table.contains(p)) { System.out.println("outside table, would be row "+this.table.rowAtPoint(p)); } } return this.table.rowAtPoint(p); } The System.out.println is just a hack right now. What I'm wondering, is why the System.out.println doesn't always print "row -1". When the table is empty it does, but if I drag something onto the table's header row, I get the println with "row 0". This seems like a bug... or am I not understanding how rowAtPoint() works?

    It seems that JMenuItems don't automatically resize any image icon that's assigned to them, and from what I can tell, there isn't a property that makes them automatically do that, either. Is anyone aware of a way that I can programatically resize the Icon for a JMenuItem? It seems like the Icon object is lacking functionality as it is, unless there's some other function that can actually deal with Icon objects.

  • Cannot find "IIS APPPOOL\{application pool name}" user account in Windows Server 2008

    Normally when setting up IIS 7, I'm used to allowing permissions to user IIS APPPOOL\{application pool name} on the root folder of my web application(s). I also give permissions to IUSR (or the IIS_IUSRS user group. (Note, in Windows Server 2008, I found that IUSR isn't in that group by default, so I added it). In Windows Server 2008, I cannot find user IIS APPPOOL\{application pool name} under Security under the Windows Folder Properties. I'm using Windows Authentication in ASP.NET. I'm receiving a 401.1 on the page in Internet Explorer 8 after getting the authentication prompt. Mozilla Firefox also gave me a Windows authentication prompt, and got me into the site fine. Same with Google Chrome. How can I solve this one? HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.     We are currently deploying a WPF 4 app via click once and there is a scenario when the installation fails. If the user does not have .Net 4.0 Full install and attempts to install our app the framework installs fine but the app fails to install. If we re-run the installation again the app installs fine.     I have an application that needs to store data. Currently, I am using the built-in Application Settings to do it, but it only gives me two choices: application and user scopes. Ideally, I want a "local" scope that allows the application to run under another user and still find its data rather than recreate it for that user. The application scope can do this, but it's read only. The application data will be changed by the user. It's OK if only the administrator is allowed to make changes to the data. As you probably can guess, I have an administration tool that allows the user to change the data and windows service runner that reads the data and does something with it. It would be great if the windows service runner access the data created by the administration tool.

    I want to set text above and below a JButton's icon. At the moment, in order to achieve this, I override the layout manager and use three JLabel instances (i.e. 2 for text and 1 for the icon). But this seems like a dirty solution. Is there a more direct way of doing this? Note -I'm not looking for a multi-line solution, I'm looking for a multi-label solution. Although this article refers to it as a multi-line solution, it actually seems to refer to a multi-label solution.   • Android Template Application?

    I have built an application that I want to use as the foundation for a few other variants. The variants will come from assets / resource files and a unique AndroidManifest.xml. However, I want to be able to leave all the application code alone (modifying the package of all my classes, etc). I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do so. My first thought was to simply have my main application in its own package, and then specify the specific application package in the manifest. However, this gives me issues with the generated R.java class, since it is generated to be in the main application's package. Anyone have any thoughts on how to accomplish this? To have a code baseline, and the application variants happen in resources/assets and the manifest?
