  • Understanding Plesk Watchdog statistics

    We have Plesk 8.3 installed. I've started using their Watchdog module to track server useage. Our server routinely has trouble with the amount of traffic we have and I think our MySQL queries need to be smarter. Anyway, looking at the stats from Watchdog, it seems like MySQL usage is low compared to so something else making up the "overall" usage. See this: I was hoping someone with a lot of Plesk exeprience could help me understand what I'm seeing here. Can I not trust Watchdog's reports or am I missing something?

    Hi, I have a .htaccess redirect for "non www" like this: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L] it is working. But, i have also some subdomains other than www. If I call for example http://shop.example.com it redirects me to: http://www.shop.example.com I dont want to write the subdomains into the .htaccess file, it should work automatically, just ignore anything else than www and '' like this: if subdomain =='' -> redirect to www.HTTP_HOST.... elseif subdomain !='' && subdomain !='www' -> do nothing. thanks!

  • Simulating a contains If-Else using RewriteCond

    Hi! I'm trying to get my head around RewriteCond, and want to rewrite any requests either to a static html page (if it exists), or to a specific index.php (so long as the requested file doesn't exist). To illustrate the logic: if HTTP_HOST is '(www\.)?mydomain.com' if file exists: "/default/static/{REQUEST_URI}.html", then rewrite .* to /default/static/{REQUEST_URI}.html else if file exists: {REQUEST_FILENAME}, then do not rewrite else rewrite .* to /default/index.php I don't seem to have much trouble doing it when I don't need to test for the HTTP_HOST. Ultimately, this one .htaccess file will be handling requests for several domains. I know I could get around this with vhosts, but I'd like to figure out how to do it this way. Here's where I am at now: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?mydomain\.com$ [NC] RewriteCond /default/static/%{REQUEST_URI}.html -f RewriteRule . /default/static/%{REQUEST_URI}.html [L,NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule . /default/index.php [L,QSA] I'm not too familiar with some of the other flags, will any of them be of use here (like chain|C, next|N or skip|S)?     EDIT: Looks like the problem was a rootkit that corrupted a bunch of low level linux commands, including top, ps, ifconfig, netstat and others. The problem was resolved by taking all web files off the server and wiping it. A dedicated server we operate is having a strange issue. Files are not be sent complete or are showing up with garbage data. Example: http://sustainablefitness.com/images/banner_bootcamps.jpg To make matters more confusing this corruption does NOT happen when the files are served as https, (I would post a link, but I don't have enough rep points, just add an 's' after http in the link above.) When I throw load at the server, I get dozens of (swapd)s in top this is the only thing that really jumps out. I can't post images but ( imgur.com / ZArSq.png ) is a screenshot of top. I have tried a lot of stuff so far, I am willing to try anything that I can. A dedicated server we operate is having a strange issue.     I have a website that is currently in Dutch. Now I want to make the website multi-language starting with English. I am not that good at .htaccess files and the information on the web is quite confusing. The website I have now uses pretty urls, so all my urls look like this: http://mydomain.com/about/info http://mydomain.com/about/contact The code that I use for that is the following: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?rt=$1 [L,QSA] </IfModule> I really do not know what this means, esp the [L,QSA]. But it's ok, it works for now. But now I want to add a default redirect to the code. So it becomes as follow http://mydomain.com becomes http://mydomain.com/nl I assume all my old links http://mydomain.com/about/info will not work anymore, but that is a step I am willing to take. Can someone please help me with this code. I have seen a lot of peaces of code, but I can not find the right one.

    I have Apache2 + Django + X-sendfile. My problem is that when I upload an animated GIF, it won't "animate" when I output through the browser.     Hi guys, I'm sure many of you have visited amazon.com. When you do, amazon creates a list of browsed menu items at the very bottom of the home page. I am currently doing a project that applies personalisation and customisation and wanted to implement something similar. My prototype is based on an institution, so I want to display a list of, say, the last 5 viewed programmes or courses on the home page. I am using PHP and so far i have thought of using $_SERVER["HTTP_REFERER"], but this returns only the last URL, which is not what I want. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me with this?     Hi, i tried redirecting some folders to the subdomains with the same names as the folders. I tried this way but it didn't work: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.domain.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(test1|test2)(.*?)$ http://$1.domain.com$2 [R=301,L] I guess the problem is that the alternation of folders doesn't return a result that i can get into $1, right? I'm not a PCRE expert so andy help would be appreciated.

    Maybe I'm an idiot but I don't quite get what goes in the header of my HTML to use XHTML w/ HTML5. Is this still good and we just add the HTML5 tags?: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html dir="ltr" lang="eng" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> Or is it <!DOCTYPE html> or what? Then at A List Apart they say: If you do go with XHTML 5, remember that your server must deliver the documents with a MIME type of application/xhtml+xml or text/xml. Please explain to me as if I was stupid :) what that means in a practical sense? "deliver the documents"? Meaning html? What happens to php? What are the steps required to set up your web server this way?

    I am trying nest a Location directive inside a virtual host config like this: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName mysite.com DocumentRoot /home/deployer/apps/mysite/current/public ErrorLog /var/log/prod.log <Location "/shop"> DocumentRoot /home/deployer/apps/mysite_shop/current/public ErrorLog /var/log/prod.log </Location> </VirtualHost> What I want to do is go to mysite.com/shop, and point it to another application. Is this possible? Is there another method of doing this? I get an error because apparently Location directives do not accept DocumentRoot. Thanks.

    I am currently migrating from isapi_rewrite to .htaccess. I'm having some difficulty and I think it's something basic, but I'm not terribly familiar with .htaccess. I have the two rules like so: RewriteRule ^testing/ /test/index.html?test=1 [NC] RewriteRule ^testing/foo-bar/ /test/index.html?test=2 [NC] Yet the second rule never matches. If I go to http://mydomain.com/testing/foo-bar/ then I will only see the first rule. Why is that? And can it be easily fixed? I have many rules (outputted from the database to write the .htaccess file )and ordering them in a particular order isn't really possible.

    hello there. building a site which has content for each section. urls range from; /work/ /work/print/ /work/print/folders etc. however, at any point a user can click on an article so; /work/article/1066 /work/print/article/1066 /work/print/folders/article/1066 using .htaccess i need to detect when there is 'article' in the url and set some different variables. RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+)/$ sets index.php?level1=$1&level2=$2&level3=$3&level4=$4 but if 'article/([0-9-]+)' is in the url, say /work/print/article/1066 return index.php?level1=$1&level2=$2&articleID=1066 basically the amount of levels will always be different but i'd like to return those as needed. another example would /work/print/folder/archive/article/1066 return index.php?level1=$1&level2=$2&level3=$3&level4=$4&articleID=1066 any help appreciated!   • mod_perl memory leak

    Hello, I recently discovered that one of our sites has a memory leak in it, it's very strange because it happened all of the sudden. I've used GTop to measure the memory size per process and it tells me that the real value is somewhere around 65 MB (on the server) per request and and additional 5 MB shared. I tried preloading the modules in the startup.pl file a indicated in the performance tuning article for mod_perl. Nothing happened if fact the shared memory decreased down to 3.7 MB, in this situation I thought that my application is leaking memory do before any line of code got executed I measured the memory just to find out that the total value is in fact 64 MB, my questions are: Is there a default preallocation of memory for each process? Is there a configuration issue? Is mod_perl leaking memory ? Thank you very much.

[NC] RewriteRule .* /var/www/503.html This website is in maintenance mode, and I don't want anything indexed yet. I tested the code with a firefox User-Agent switcher plugin, and looking at the access log it shows this at the end of each log entry, but watching in TamperData or Firebug, it still returns a 200 server response instead of a 503. What am I doing wrong? "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +http://www.google.com/bot.html)" contents of /var/www/503.html <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2//EN"> <html> <head> <title>503 - Service temporary unavailable</title> </head> <body> <h1>503 - Service temporary unavailable</h1> <p>Sorry, this website is currently down for maintainance please retry later</p> </body> </html> I get this in my error log. LogLevel debug, would that go into the vhost in a specific place? Every answer I see on google is something different. Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Use 'LimitInternalRecursion' to increase the limit if necessary. Use 'LogLevel debug' to get a backtrace.

    Hello, I've been trying to figure out a way to redirect requests for wildcard subdomains to a specific folder ( called 'core' ) and calling the requested page/file from that specific folder. For example, making all calls to -http://johnny5.mysite.net redirect to -http://mysite.net/core/, or -http://docholliday.mysite.net/login.php redirect to -http://mysite.net/core/login.php, or a final example, -http://jamesbrown.mysite.net/images/feelgood.jpg to -http://mysite.net/core/images/feelgood.jpg. The problem I've been having has been getting the redirect to call the requested page/file from 'core'. I've been able to get the wildcard subdomains to redirect requested pages/files to the root ( -http://mysite.net ), but not to the specific folder ( -http://mysite.net/core/ ). Here's what I have: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^(www|mail|ftp)\.[a-z-]+\.[a-z]{2,6} [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ([a-z-]+\.[a-z]{2,6})$ [NC] RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ http://%1/core/$1 [L] I've tried several things like removing the http://%1 in the RewriteRule but I can't seem to get it to work in the way I described above.
