• Reuse implemented business classes in a web applications

  I have implemented my domain layer classes and i have used them in a java application. Now i want to use same classes in a java web application,but i dont know how can i do it? In the java aplication we make and run some objects in main(class and method) and use them while program is running. for example an object that hold a collection of data that will be needed for all user requests. My question is: How can i create and hold such objects and data that should be available for all users and clients.

Let me share the trick here as well. You can generate random scripts using following methods as well. USE AdventureWorks2012 GO -- Method 1 SELECT TOP 100 * FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail ORDER BY NEWID() GO -- Method 2 SELECT TOP 100 * FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail ORDER BY CHECKSUM(NEWID()) GO You will notice that using NEWID() in the ORDER BY will return random rows in the result set. • Top techniques to avoid 'data scraping' from a website database

  I am setting up a site using PHP and MySQL that is essentially just a web front-end to an existing database. Understandably my client is very keen to prevent anyone from being able to make a copy of the data in the database yet at the same time wants everything publicly available and even a "view all" link to display every record in the db. Whilst I have put everything in place to prevent attacks such as SQL injection attacks, there is nothing to prevent anyone from viewing all the records as html and running some sort of script to parse this data back into another database. Even if I was to remove the "view all" link, someone could still, in theory, use an automated process to go through each record one by one and compile these into a new database, essentially pinching all the information. Does anyone have any good tactics for preventing or even just dettering this that they could share. Thanks

I've removed the entry for 403 in IIS (7.0) as a desperate last attempt and unsuprisingly that made no difference. I've run out of ideas now so any suggestions will be gratefully appreciated!

Here are the requirements: HTML front end (best if it's cross-browser friendly) Web deployable, but also ideally want to be able to install as standalone on a desktop SQL Server database Ideally, would like to use a good (and easy) AJAX toolkit with widgets Ideally, would like to be able to write in ASP.Net but later (or concurrently) also write in Java. This is a big concern, as I would like to not have to rewrite the whole thing. Is there a toolkit I can use that makes this cross-platform requirement easier?   Hi, I am about to develop a crawler in Java but don't feel like reinventing the wheel. A quick Google search gives a whole bunch of Java libraries to build a web crawler. Besides that Nutch is of course a very robust package but seems a bit too advanced for my needs. I only need to crawl a handful websites a week containing a couple of 1000 pages each. Which open source Java library would you recommend considering: speed multithreading (or even distributed) extending it with new functionality active maintained and documentation?

  I am thinking of designing a web site having multiple related services. For every action of the user in a service there will be some computation going on in each of the other services. I want to display the service in action (chosen by the user) in the middle of the page in enlarged mode and rest of the services as small sized (shrunk) versions around the enlarged mode. The services which are shown in the shrunk version, should actually show what is happening in that service, at run time as if that was the chosen service. A close match to this sort of behavior I know is in Reliance BigTV, where all the small images of all the channels will be going on, and we can choose the one that we want to watch. After choosing that one image will become big and occupy the screen. Please, let me know if I can do some thing like this using css, html, ajax & php.

• Client-side framework for web-app with good audio support

  I'm trying to create a client-side web app that generates music procedurally using some user-input parameters, so I'm looking for a framework (e.g. Flash, Silverlight etc.) that has the capability to play audio at a specified pitch. Whether it is playing a WAV/MP3 file, using MIDI output, or just playing beeps doesn't really matter -- I just need something that will enable me to generate arbitrary music client-side. I've done a bit of searching and it appears that Flash might have the ability to change pitch with the help of a third-part plugin, but I couldn't find anything similar for Silverlight. I can go a try all them out manually if need be, but I thought I'd ask here first just in case anyone had tried something like this before. Thanks in advance

• Is SEO knowledge important for web developers?

  Looking for some SEO (Search engine optimization) questions on Stackoverflow, I saw ambivalent reactions to these questions. Some were closed as "not programming related" or were downvoted, others were answered and got upvoted. It seems that many developers think SEO was something "dirty" or belonged in the realm of spam. IMHO designing for search engines and practising SEO techniques adds important value to the final product like, for example, a good user interface. Should SEO really be left to specialized non-programmers? Shouldn't web developers have profound SEO knowledge? Or is it okay to apply SEO as a post-development process?

• Mysql: ROLLBACK for multiple queries

  Hi I have more than three MySql queiries in a PHP script triggered by scheduled task. If a query catch an error, script throw an exception and rollback that Mysql query. It works fine. However if first query works fine, but not 2nd query, throw an exception, it rollback 2nd one but not 1st query. I am using begin_trans(), commit and rollback() for individual queries because Sometimes i need to rollback one query, sometimes all queries. Is there any way to rollback one query or all queries? Thanks in advance UPDATE: I got it working, there was no problem with in begin_trans(), commit and rollback(), the database connection config was different for one query from other queries, crazy code without any comments!!!

• Swapping an image during web development

  I'm trying to see what a certain webpage would look like if I replaced a certain image with another. Rather than upload the image, edit the site, etc, each time I tweak it, I'd like to know if there's a way to change the image in the page to my local version while viewing the remote page. I use Firebug for debugging web development usually, but I'm open to any other tool that might do this. (It is absolutely impossible to search for this and find anything but questions about dynamic image swapping on a deployed website, so sorry if this is a duplicate.)

  I have multiple websites that need to send mail (after successful signup, etc.); I maintain a Postfix instance just for this (it never receives any incoming mail). This Postfix instance is a pain: it is sometimes broken, is regularly attacked, produces enormous amounts of logs, etc. These problems could certainly be dealt with by an experienced Postfix admin, but that's not me. Is there a service that would be just like Twilio, but for email? IE: a web service for sending mail.

I am looking for recommendations for books, articles, sites, etc for learning more about test driven development specifically compatible with or aimed at Python web application programming. I understand that Python has built-in tools to assist. What would be the best way to learn about these outside of RTFM? I have searched on StackOverflow and found the Kent Beck's and David Astels book on the subject. I have also bookmarked the Wikipedia article as it has many of these types of resources. Are there any particular ones you would recommend for this language/application?

• Web design process with CSS - during or after?

  Which is the better practice? Add CSS during web designing you can see the result (or close) as early as possible and make required changes. You also know how many divs or spans you might need (eg to make curved cross-browser hover background). But as you add more and more components to the page sometimes things get hack-ish as you need to patch here and there to get the exact design required. Add CSS after finishing page design you can see the page overall structure as it is well, without styles. You get to see how accessible your site is, and modify it right away if it's not good enough (unlike the former case where you may break multiple CSS rules). Plus after you finished it, you only need to spend most of the time to alter only the CSS file, which is good to get the momentum going. Granted I have never tried the latter approach, but am seriously considering it for my next project if I can see convincing reasons -- or if it's no good at all. Thanks.

  Hello everyone. I am designing a web application in ASP.NET / C# where each registered user has the ability to add/modify/delete rows based on their user-id. Take this example: I am going to edit my route on the page /route.aspx?routeid=854 which belongs to me (user-id: 1). But because I am a curious guy I try to access /route.aspx?routeid=855 which belongs to another user (user-id: 2). How can I best avoid people from accessing other peoples data? Should I send each user id (from session) with each database-call, should I validate user/password on every page load or what is the best and most secure approach? I hope I made this clear enough.

• Are there any open-source / free site analytics solutions that are intranet deployable?

  There are plenty of statistics/analytics providers for Internet deployed software (e.g. Google Analytics), but I'm looking for an analytics tool to integrate into a LAN/intranet based web application. I'm aware of AWStats, but I'd prefer something with a design similar to Google Analytics, where a Javascript callback can be embedded into the app and call back to an analytics server. This doesn't require any sort of extra application server configuration and access to run. I'm thinking there's nothing available that isn't proprietary / pay-for, but I'd love to be told I'm wrong!

• Google Web Optimizer -- How long until winning combination?

  I've had an A/B Test running in Google Web Optimizer for six weeks now, and there's still no end in sight. Google is still saying: "We have not gathered enough data yet to show any significant results. When we collect more data we should be able to show you a winning combination." Is there any way of telling how close Google is to making up its mind? (Does anyone know what algorithm does it use to decide if there's been any "high confidence winners"?) According to the Google help documentation: Sometimes we simply need more data to be able to reach a level of high confidence. A tested combination typically needs around 200 conversions for us to judge its performance with certainty. But all of our conversions have over 200 conversations at the moment: 230 / 4061 (Original) 223 / 3937 (Variation 1) 205 / 3984 (Variation 2) 205 / 4007 (Variation 3) How much longer is it going to have to run?? • Database storage for high sample rate data in web app

  I've got multiple sensors feeding data to my web app. Each channel is 5 samples per second and the data gets uploaded bundled together in 1 minute json messages (containing 300 samples). The data will be graphed using flot at multiple zoom levels from 1 day to 1 minute. I'm using Amazon SimpleDB and I'm currently storing the data in the 1 minute chunks that I receive it in. This works well for high zoom levels, but for full days there will be simply be too many rows to retrieve. The idea I've currently got is that every hour I can crawl through the data and collect together 300 samples for the last hour and store them in an hour Domain (table if you like). Does this sound like a reasonable solution? How have others implemented the same sort of systems?

  Hi Folks I have 3 web services, all located on the same server. My Client calls Service A, which impersonates the client to call Service B, and all is well. Now, I want to impersonate the caller of service B (which is my username) to call Service C. When I use the same technique as before (AllowedImpersonationLevel = Impersonate, user.Impersonate()), The user doesnt get passed to service C. Instead, Service C sees the user as the user I am running it under in IIS. Is there anything special I need to do to get this working? Is this a delegation issue?   Hello, I have chosen diploma work in university. It's a mini social network. But now I am really stuck with which technology I should stick. I am average at C++ ISAPI web services development, below average PHP(had few projects with it) and new to Ruby and its framework RAILS. I have a deadline 1.5 month to develop it(about 5 hours every day after my full time job). Also I heard that its very easy to learn and develop with Ruby on Rails. Considering C++ I know that I have to do lots of coding and work by myself and PHP looks almost the same to me. So I am looking for you skilled developers advise what would you do in my position? Learn RoR, stick with C++ or PHP or maybe use something else?

  I'm looking for some recommendations for a python web application. We have some memory restrictions and we try to keep it small and lean. We thought about using WSGI (and a python webserver) and build the rest ourself. We already have a template engine we'd like to use, but we are open for some suggestions regarding the whole request handling (the controller). The application has to run in a single process and the requests have to be processed with multiple threads. We've looked at django, but we are a not sure if it fits into our memory budget. • .NET: Split web application into multiple DLLs?

  Is it possible to compile some code-behind (.cs) files (eg. all .cs file under a particular folder) into one DLL, and the rest into another DLL? We have some common codes and pages (aspx + cs files) that we want to use across many websites. We want this to compile into a DLL (eg. Common.dll). The rest of the files will be website-specific, unique to each website and should compile into another DLL (eg. Website3.dll) This is so that if we make changes to a common code-behind, we can just publish Common.dll onto all our websites. Is that possible using VS Web Developer Express 2008?   Hey Everyone, I have some experience in AJAX development, mostly on .NET and MooTools. However, I want to learn more and see what others out there thought about the various other options available. I am looking more for advise about the front end. The back end, I will most probably be coding up in .NET using c# and WCF services. Please feel free to provide me as much information as you can.
