  • UIAlertView Will not show

    - by John
    I have a program that is requesting a JSON string. I have created a class that contains the connect method below. When the root view is coming up, it does a request to this class and method to load up some data for the root view. When I test the error code (by changing the URL host to 127.0.0.1), I expect the Alert to show. Behavior is that the root view just goes black, and the app aborts with no alert. No errors in debug mode on the console, either. Any thoughts as to this behavior? I've been looking around for hints to this for hours to no avail. Thanks in advance for your help. Note: the conditional for (error) is called, as well as the UIAlertView code. - (NSString *)connect:(NSString *)urlString { NSString *jsonString; UIApplication *app = [UIApplication sharedApplication]; app.networkActivityIndicatorVisible = YES; NSError *error = nil; NSURLResponse *response = nil; NSURL *url = [[NSURL alloc] initWithString:urlString]; NSURLRequest *req = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url cachePolicy:NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringCacheData timeoutInterval:10]; NSData *_response = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest: req returningResponse: &response error: &error]; if (error) { /* inform the user that the connection failed */ //AlertWithMessage(@"Connection Failed!", message); UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Oopsie!" message:@"Unable to connect! Try later, thanks." delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"OK" otherButtonTitles: nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; } else { jsonString = [[[NSString alloc] initWithData:_response encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding] autorelease]; } app.networkActivityIndicatorVisible = NO; [url release]; return jsonString; }

  • Can I use "map" as a substitute for "for each"/"for in"?

    - by John Mee
    For a little while now javascript has the "map" function to loop over arrays. It appears possible to use it as a 'foreach' operator for example: var arr = ['a','b','c'] var doubles = arr.map(function(val){ return val + val }) Is this better or worse than saying for(var i in arr){ ... 50/50: saves having to use the index but adds a callback; it doesn't seem very common so I hesitate to use it but still want to.

  • c++ global operator not playing well with template class

    - by John
    ok, i found some similar posts on stackoverflow, but I couldn't find any that pertained to my exact situation and I was confused with some of the answers given. Ok, so here is my problem: I have a template matrix class as follows: template <typename T, size_t ROWS, size_t COLS> class Matrix { public: template<typename, size_t, size_t> friend class Matrix; Matrix( T init = T() ) : _matrix(ROWS, vector<T>(COLS, init)) { /*for( int i = 0; i < ROWS; i++ ) { _matrix[i] = new vector<T>( COLS, init ); }*/ } Matrix<T, ROWS, COLS> & operator+=( const T & value ) { for( vector<T>::size_type i = 0; i < this->_matrix.size(); i++ ) { for( vector<T>::size_type j = 0; j < this->_matrix[i].size(); j++ ) { this->_matrix[i][j] += value; } } return *this; } private: vector< vector<T> > _matrix; }; and I have the following global function template: template<typename T, size_t ROWS, size_t COLS> Matrix<T, ROWS, COLS> operator+( const Matrix<T, ROWS, COLS> & lhs, const Matrix<T, ROWS, COLS> & rhs ) { Matrix<T, ROWS, COLS> returnValue = lhs; return returnValue += lhs; } To me, this seems to be right. However, when I try to compile the code, I get the following error (thrown from the operator+ function): binary '+=' : no operator found which takes a right-hand operand of type 'const matrix::Matrix<T,ROWS,COLS>' (or there is no acceptable conversion) I can't figure out what to make of this. Any help if greatly appreciated!

  • Accessing WordPress categories from outside

    - by John
    So, I have a client that needs all the categories from their blog to be displayed on their homepage. The WordPress blog is in its own directory, /blog. I have tried the following code (taken from a tutorial, I changed the path to fit clients site): <?php // Include WordPress define('WP_USE_THEMES', false); require('blog/wp-load.php'); query_posts('showposts=1'); ?> But this code just redirects me to the install file of WordPress (it actually wrongly redirects me). It goes to http://www.site.com/wp-admin/install.php instead of http://www.site.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php. Is there a better way than this method? I would pull in the categories from the database table, but I do not currently have access. Thanks!

  • How can I return an object into PHP userspace from my extension?

    - by John Factorial
    I have a C++ object, Graph, which contains a property named cat of type Category. I'm exposing the Graph object to PHP in an extension I'm writing in C++. As long as the Graph's methods return primitives like boolean or long, I can use the Zend RETURN_*() macros (e.g. RETURN_TRUE(); or RETURN_LONG(123);. But how can I make Graph-getCategory(); return a Category object for the PHP code to manipulate? I'm following the tutorial over at http://devzone.zend.com/article/4486, and here's the Graph code I have so far: #include "php_getgraph.h" zend_object_handlers graph_object_handlers; struct graph_object { zend_object std; Graph *graph; }; zend_class_entry *graph_ce; #define PHP_CLASSNAME "WFGraph" ZEND_BEGIN_ARG_INFO_EX(php_graph_one_arg, 0, 0, 1) ZEND_END_ARG_INFO() ZEND_BEGIN_ARG_INFO_EX(php_graph_two_args, 0, 0, 2) ZEND_END_ARG_INFO() void graph_free_storage(void *object TSRMLS_DC) { graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)object; delete obj-graph; zend_hash_destroy(obj-std.properties); FREE_HASHTABLE(obj-std.properties); efree(obj); } zend_object_value graph_create_handler(zend_class_entry *type TSRMLS_DC) { zval *tmp; zend_object_value retval; graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)emalloc(sizeof(graph_object)); memset(obj, 0, sizeof(graph_object)); obj-std.ce = type; ALLOC_HASHTABLE(obj-std.properties); zend_hash_init(obj-std.properties, 0, NULL, ZVAL_PTR_DTOR, 0); zend_hash_copy(obj-std.properties, &type-default_properties, (copy_ctor_func_t)zval_add_ref, (void*)&tmp, sizeof(zval*)); retval.handle = zend_objects_store_put(obj, NULL, graph_free_storage, NULL TSRMLS_CC); retval.handlers = &graph_object_handlers; return retval; } PHP_METHOD(Graph, __construct) { char *perspectives; int perspectives_len; Graph *graph = NULL; zval *object = getThis(); if(zend_parse_parameters(ZEND_NUM_ARGS() TSRMLS_CC, "s", &perspectives, &perspectives_len) == FAILURE) { RETURN_NULL(); } graph = new Graph(perspectives); graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)zend_object_store_get_object(object TSRMLS_CC); obj-graph = graph; } PHP_METHOD(Graph, hasCategory) { long perspectiveId; Graph *graph; graph_object *obj = (graph_object*)zend_object_store_get_object(getThis() TSRMLS_CC); graph = obj-graph; if (graph == NULL) { RETURN_NULL(); } if(zend_parse_parameters(ZEND_NUM_ARGS() TSRMLS_CC, "l", &perspectiveId) == FAILURE) { RETURN_NULL(); } RETURN_BOOL(graph-hasCategory(perspectiveId)); } PHP_METHOD(Graph, getCategory) { // what to do here?   • MySQL - Calculate the net time difference between two date-times while excluding breaks?

    - by John M
    In a MySQL query I am using the timediff/time_to_sec functions to calculate the total minutes between two date-times. For example: 2010-03-23 10:00:00 - 2010-03-23 08:00:00 = 120 minutes What I would like to do is exclude any breaks that occur during the selected time range. For example: 2010-03-23 10:00:00 - 2010-03-23 08:00:00 - (break 08:55:00 to 09:10:00) = 105 minutes Is there a good method to do this without resorting to a long list of nested IF statements?

  • jQuery .ajax method executing but not firing error (or success)

    - by John Swaringen
    I'm having a very strange situation. I have a .NET Web Service (.asmx) that I'm trying to call via jQuery ajax to populate some <select></select>'s. The service is running System.Web.Services like it's supposed to and should be returning a JSON list. At least that's the way I understand that it will in .NET 3.5/4.0. The main problem is that the .ajax() function (below) seems to execute but the internal callbacks aren't executing. I know it's executing because I can do something before and after the function and both execute, so JavaScript isn't blowing up. $.ajax({ type: "POST", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", url: 'http://localhost:59191/AFEDropDownService/Service.asmx/GetAVP', data: "{}", dataType: "jsonp", crossDomain: true, success: function(list) { console.log(list); console.log("success!!"); }, error: function(msg) { console.log("error: " + msg.text); } }); If you need more of the code let me know. Or if you know a better way as I'm trying to build cascading <select></select's.

  • Write a dll that is accessable from VS 2003 VC++ code

    - by John
    I need to be able to write a DLL in either C# or VC++ that is accessible from code that is written in Visual Studio 2003 VC++. It looks like the code is unmanaged (uses * for pointers) VC++ and this DLL needs to be able to drop right in and be accessed by the current code. The DLL is an RS232 driver that needs to be able to return an int for an error code and pass back, by reference, some measured values, to the calling program. Will I even be able to write this in C#? If not, I only have access to Visual Studio 2005 or 2008. Will I be able to write my code in either, and will that DLL be able to be called from the current code base? Or do I have to go looking on ebay for a copy of VS 2003?

  • Jquery toggle event is messing with checkbox value

    - by John McCollum
    Hi all, I'm using Jquery's toggle event to do some stuff when a user clicks a checkbox, like this: $('input#myId').toggle( function(){ //do stuff }, function(){ //do other stuff } ); The problem is that the checkbox isn't being ticked when I click on the checkbox. (All the stuff I've put into the toggle event is working properly.) I've tried the following: $('input#myId').attr('checked', 'checked'); and $(this).attr('checked', 'checked'); and even simply return true; But nothing is working. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? Edit - thanks to all who replied. Dreas' answer very nearly worked for me, except for the part that checked the attribute. This works perfectly (although it's a bit hacky) $('input#myInput').change(function () { if(!$(this).hasClass("checked")) { //do stuff if the checkbox isn't checked $(this).addClass("checked"); return; } //do stuff if the checkbox isn't checked $(this).removeClass('checked'); }); Thanks again to all who replied.

  • how is a macro expanded in clojure?

    - by john wang
    In the book Programming Clojure(Stuart), when read how macros are expanded I got confused. user=> (defmacro chain ([x form] (list '. x form)) ([x form & more] (concat (list 'chain (list '. x form)) more))) #'user/chain The above macro can be expanded as: user=> (macroexpand '(chain a b c)) (. (. a b) c) But the following is only expanded to the first level: user=> (macroexpand '(and a b c)) (let* [and__3822__auto__ a] (if and__3822__auto__ (clojure.core/and b c) and__3822__auto__)) The and macro source: user=> (source and) (defmacro and([] true) ([x] x) ([x & next] `(let [and# ~x] (if and# (and ~@next) and#)))) Why is the chain macro expanded all the way but the and not ? Why is it not expanded to something like the following: user=> (macroexpand '(chain a b c d)) (. (chain a b c) d)

  • in Python find number of same elements in 2 lists

    - by John
    Hi, In Python if I have 2 lists say: l1 = ['a', 'b', 'c', 'd'] l2 = ['c', 'd', 'e'] is there a way to find out how many elements they have the same. In the case about it would be 2 (c and d) I know I could just do a nested loop but is there not a built in function like in php with the array_intersect function Thanks

  • How do I temporarily change the require path in Ruby ($:)?

    - by John Feminella
    I'm doing some trickery with a bunch of Rake tasks for a complex project, gradually refactoring away some of the complexity in chunks at a time. This has exposed the bizarre web of dependencies left behind by the previous project maintainer. What I'd like to be able to do is to add a specific path in the project to require's list of paths to be searched, aka $:. However, I only want that path to be searched in the context of one particular method. Right now I'm doing something like this: def foo() # Look up old paths, add new special path. paths = $: $: << special_path # Do work ... bar() baz() quux() # Reset. $:.clear $: << paths end def bar() require '...' # If called from within foo(), will also search special_path. ... end This is clearly a monstrous hack. Is there a better way?

  • Convolving two signals

    - by John Elway
    Calculate the convolution of the following signals (your answer will be in the form of an equation): h[n] = delta[n-1] + delta[n+1], x[n] = delta[n-a] + delta[n+b] I'm lost as to what I do with h and x. Do I simply multiply them? h[n]*x[n]? I programmed convolution with several types of blurs and edge detectors, but I don't see how to translate that knowledge to this problem. please help!

  • use JQuery to get a list of classes

    - by John
    Hi I have a un-ordered (ul) html list. Each li item has 1 or more classes attached to it. I want to go through this ul list and get all the (distinct) classes. Then from this list create a list of checkboxes who's value matches that of the class and also who's label matches that of the class. One checkbox for each class. What is the best way to do this using JQuery? Thanks

  • android widget unresponsive

    - by John
    I have a widget that you press and it then it will update the text on the widget. I have set an on click listener to launch another activity to perform the text update, But for some reason it only works temporarily and then it will become unresponsive and not do anything when pressed. Does anyone know why it might be doing that? i have posted my widget code below in case it is helpful. @Override public void onUpdate(Context context, AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager,int[] appWidgetIds) { thisWidget = new ComponentName(context, MemWidget.class); Intent intent = new Intent(context, updatewidget.class); PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, intent, 0); // Get the layout for the App Widget and attach an on-click listener to the button RemoteViews views = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.ImageButton01, pendingIntent); // Tell the AppWidgetManager to perform an update on the current App Widget appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(thisWidget, views); } @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { appWidgetManager = AppWidgetManager.getInstance(context); remoteViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); thisWidget = new ComponentName(context, MemWidget.class); // v1.5 fix that doesn't call onDelete Action final String action = intent.getAction(); if (AppWidgetManager.ACTION_APPWIDGET_DELETED.equals(action)) { final int appWidgetId = intent.getExtras().getInt( AppWidgetManager.EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID); if (appWidgetId != AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID) { this.onDeleted(context, new int[] { appWidgetId }); } } else { super.onReceive(context, intent); } }

  • AsyncTask, inner classes and Buttons states

    - by Intern John Smith
    For a musical application (a sequencer), I have a few buttons static ArrayList<Button> Buttonlist = new ArrayList<Button>(); Buttonlist.add(0,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick1)); Buttonlist.add(1,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick2)); Buttonlist.add(2,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick3)); Buttonlist.add(3,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick4)); Buttonlist.add(4,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick5)); Buttonlist.add(5,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick6)); Buttonlist.add(6,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick7)); Buttonlist.add(7,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick8)); that I activate through onClickListeners with for example Buttonlist.get(0).setActivated(true); I played the activated sound via a loop and ifs : if (Buttonlist.get(k).isActivated()) {mSoundManager.playSound(1); Thread.sleep(250);} The app played fine but I couldn't access the play/pause button when it was playing : I searched and found out about AsyncTasks. I have a nested class PlayPause : class PlayPause extends AsyncTask<ArrayList<Button>,Integer,Void> in which I have this : protected Void doInBackground(ArrayList<Button>... params) { for(int k=0;k<8;k++) { boolean isPlayed = false; if (Buttonlist.get(k).isActivated()) { mSoundManager.playSound(1); isPlayed = true; try {Thread.sleep(250); } catch (InterruptedException e) {e.printStackTrace();}} if(!isPlayed){ try {Thread.sleep(250);} catch (InterruptedException e) {e.printStackTrace();} } } return null; } I launch it via Play.setOnClickListener(new PlayClickListener()); with PlayClickListener : public class PlayClickListener implements OnClickListener { private Tutorial acti; public PlayClickListener(){ super(); } @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public void onClick(View v) { if(Tutorial.play==0){ Tutorial.play=1; Tutorial.Play.setBackgroundResource(R.drawable.action_down); acti = new Tutorial(); Tutorial.PlayPause myPlayPause = acti.new PlayPause(); myLecture.execute(Tutorial.Buttonlist); } else { Tutorial.play=0; Tutorial.lecture.cancel(true); Tutorial.Play.setBackgroundResource(R.drawable.action); } } } But it doesn't work. when I click on buttons and I touch Play/Pause, I have this : 07-02 11:06:01.350: E/AndroidRuntime(7883): FATAL EXCEPTION: AsyncTask #1 07-02 11:06:01.350: E/AndroidRuntime(7883): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 07-02 11:06:01.350: E/AndroidRuntime(7883): at com.Tutorial.Tutorial$PlayPause.doInBackground(Tutorial.java:603) 07-02 11:06:01.350: E/AndroidRuntime(7883): at com.Tutorial.Tutorial$PlayPause.doInBackground(Tutorial.java:1) And I don't know how to get rid of this error. Obviously, the Asynctask doesn't find the Buttonlist activated status, even if the list is static. I don't know how to access these buttons' states, isPressed doesn't work either. Thanks for reading and helping me !

  • rename multiple files with unique name

    - by psaima
    I have a tab-delimited list of hundreds of names in the following format old_name new_name apple orange yellow blue All of my files have unique names and end with *.txt extension and these are in the same directory. I want to write a script that will rename the files by reading my list. So apple.txt should be renamed as orange.txt. I have searched around but I couldn't find a quick way to do this.I can change one file at a time with 'rename' or using perl "perl -p -i -e ’s///g’ *.txt", and few files with sed, but I don't know how I can use my list as input and write a shell script to make the changes for all files in a directory. I don't want to write hundreds of rename command for all files in a shell script. Any suggestions will be most welcome!

  • Multipage forms for joomla (looking outside the box)

    - by John Snow
    I have created a number of forms using various Joomla components which have more or less worked successfully. Recently I have attempted to create mult-page forms - the forms work...but they are slow as molasses. Having spent a couple of weeks trying to resolve this and not seeing any signs of improvement ...... I wonder if anyone has experience of using hosted forms services in Joomla either using a wrapper or as a static page within a Joomla site. Any pointers or recommendations would be appreciated.

  • MVC binding form data problem.

    - by John
    I am using an object that matches all the fields in my form. I then use the default binding to populate the object in my action, like this; public ActionResult GetDivisionData(DivisionObj FormData) My DivisionObj initializes all it's values to string.empty in the constructor. The problem is that when the binder populates the model from the posted form data, any data that is not posted is set to null in the object, eventhough I initialized the object to contain empty strings. Is there a way to change this so that unposted data will be an empty string.
