• Examining a lambda expression at runtime in C#

  I have a method Get on a type MyType1 accepting a Func<MyType2, bool> as a parameter. An example of its use: mytype1Instance.Get(x => x.Guid == guid)); I would like create a stub implementation of the method Get that examines the incoming lambda expression and determines what the value of guid is. Clearly the lambda could be "anything", but I'm happy for the stub to make an assumption about the lambda, that it is trying to match on the Guid property. How can I do this? I suspect it involves the use of the built-in Expression type?

• SVN merge adding parameters. WTF? Or how to do big merges?

  I am doing an SVN merge for a branch, and in one of the files I see this: GetQueryReferenceData(int sessionId, Int32 sessionId) Which means that the merge tool just added another parameter without asking any questions. Imagine if it was a call to Substring(0) and in another branch it would be Substring(0,2). That is completely different behavior, how does it even get to decide which one to choose? Good thing it came up during compile time. The problem is that it will not be marked as a conflict and will be merged automatically. That is very dangerous behavior and if you don't have the luxury of having a unit test for every line of code - you are screwed. What am I doing wrong and how to do big merges without the merging tool putting in dangerous changes silently? Is there a merge tool that is not language agnostic? I am using Tortoise SVN.

• App.config path not correctly interpreted by ASP.NET Application

  Hello everyone ! I'm working on a very old project (2000) in VB6 which was "modernized" and upgraded to VB.NET 3.5. I've centralized every old INI configuration file into one MainApp.config, which is referenced by the app.config of every component. There's an VB ASP.NET website in the solution, which uses DLL components, which are looking into app.config for parameters like, say, error log directory, etc. I've deployed the site on my dev. server (Windows 2008 Server w/ IIS 7.0) into the D:\WebSite\ directory. Problem: When running the site, an error occurs. A DLL is looking into app.config for the parameter RepertoireErreur which has the value .\Erreurs\ Instead of returning D:\WebSite\Erreurs\ it returns c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\.\Erreurs\ which doesn't contain the Erreurs directory. Boom. Error. Does anyone have ever encountered the same problem ? Is there a solution ? Thanks,

• Can you pass parameters for OnAction in MS Project VBA?

  The way I can define a method to be executed with OnAction in VBA with Microsoft Project is as follows (and works correctly): .OnAction = "Macro ""DoSomething""" ... where DoSomething is the method to execute. I would like to pass a parameter to that method but can't find a way to pass it with this syntax. Does anybody have an idea how to do this? I'm getting the feeling that this is an impossible task, but maybe there's some VBA secret I'm not aware of. Please note that VBA in MS Project seems to have its quirks and is slightly different than VBA for Excel or Access. This seems to be the case for the OnAction property which needs the extra Macro keyword to work correctly. If I'm wrong here please enlighten me.

• Exception wrapping and HTML pages

  Hi, We have a sharepoint 2007 project at work. The exception handling policy is to log to the Sharepoint logs. In this case, would the best approach be to call that method and then rethrow the exception higher up? Except if I rethrow it to be caught higher up, there is no other exception handling code so what would happen in this case? Also, if you are going to display a more friendly error to the user (which uses information in the exception object), then this would be a good use of exception wrapping. Would it be a good idea to make a custom aspx page and add these to customerrors, so that on init (not sure of the exact event), I can display exception info in the passed parameter on the page. However, a static html page can't do this so I don't see the point in wrapping exceptions (unless there is a page or alert which uses the exception object). So if a project uses html pages for errors, is there a point in wrapping exceptions? Thanks

So, as it says to do in the documentation, I've added this code in my config/routes.rb file: resources :dimensions do collection do get "search" end end I've also defined in the dimensions_controller file: def search @dimensions = Dimension.all respond_to do |format| format.html # search.html.erb format.json { render json: @dimensions } end end I then stopped and restarted the rails server, but when I navigate to /dimensions/home, I'm still getting this error message: Couldn't find Dimension with id=search Also showing that my parameter is: {"id"=>"search"} So am I just missing another bit of code that gives the instruction to interpret /dimension/search as a collection action as opposed to the show action? • Send custom data when initializing java WebService over soap

  Hello. I have a question about sending additional data over soap to the functions. My webService function requests only one integer, for example an getDocumentPrivilage(DocumentID). In another WebService user registered and he got an unique ID, so the other application can see who he is. So on Service one he registers, gets id and it has to send it to the other webservice tor the privilage. Id dont wish to rewrite the function so that it gets the unique ID (like this getDocumentPrivilage(uniqID,DocumentID)) but, the wish is that i would be able to create a client that sends this data at the initialization or somehow as some sort of parameter behind the function. Is this possible?? I tried the ServiceLifecycle but cant see any setting i've given in. Im using WebSphere CE for the server and Jax-ws Creating the webapp in java. Is keys %FIELDS the only way? Secondarily, is there a more efficient way to pre-populate the fields in the constructor than looping through and assigning each parameter as I am above? Thanks!

This problem is described from a ColdFusion perspective at: adobe forum question It runs when called from a .net client. While hosted on a server inside our LAN, I put it out on a public server so the WSDL could be viewed: please take a quick look at this WSDL here When the CF developer runs her code, she gets: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: argument type mismatch ...and I am wondering if there is a tool I could run on the server that hosts my webservice to see if it is even entering the WS or is being rejected by Java code that CF uses and is not really even getting to my webservice.

• How do I get the CoreData Debug argument to output to the console?

  According to Apple documentation on debugging Core Data it says we should be able to pass an argument to the application which will output the SQL core data sends to SQLite. I have gone into the arguments tab of my executable in XCode and specified the argument: -com.apple.CoreData.SQLDebug 1 However, I see no SQL in the console. I then tried to use this parameter in the CoreDataBooks application provided by Apple just in case there was some other issue in MY program. Even in Apple's example I get no SQL output in the console. Am I doing something wrong? Is Apple's documentation wrong? Should I be looking someplace other than the console? Has anyone else had success with this argument?

  Hello, I have been programming in C and C++ for a few years and now I'm taking a college course in it and our book had a function like this int foo(){ int x=0; int y=20; return x,y; //y is always returned } I have never seen such syntax. In fact, I never see the , operator used outside of parameter lists. If y is always returned though, then what is the point? Is there a case where a return statement would need to be created like this? (Also, I tagged C as well because it applies to both, though my book specifically is C++)

  In MSBuild it's straightforward to define, say, a PropertyGroup which depends on the value of a property Foo: <PropertyGroup Conditional="'$(Foo)'=='Bar'" /> Is it also possible for the conditional to depend on a task parameter? For example, I'd like to use the value of the Link task's SubSystemparameter roughly like this: <PropertyGroup Conditional="'$(Link/SubSystem)'=='Console'" /> but don't know if it is possible, and if it is, what the correct syntax is. I'm pretty new to MSBuild though, so it's perfectly possible that I've missed something.

  I'm using dijit combobox for populating a JSON List. Also I'm using ItemFileReadStore for getting the JSON data from the server. Once the data is downloaded, when I click on the combobox it shows all the data. But I don't want the user to see all the data. The user should see the list only when he types something. • Validating single form field with CodeIgniter

  Is there a quick way to validate a single form field with CodeIgniter to see whether or not that field matches a set of rules? There's the $this-form_validation-run();, but that will return either TRUE or FALSE for the whole form, and that's just not what I'm looking for. For example, if I only wanted to check if the email was valid, checking the whole form is not going to get me the result I'm looking for. I looked through the documentation but couldn't find anything like $this-form_validation-run(); that accepts one parameter and returns TRUE or FALSE if it's valid.

• GetWindowLongPtr fails if called when handling WM_CREATE

  Calling the GetWindowLongPtr function for a dialog box with the DWL_USER parameter fails when done from the WM_CREATE handler. It gives no error (checked that, the return value is always zero), which, according to the MSDN documentation, occurs only if SetWindowLongPtr has not been called previously. However, I call it after registering the window class, and properly call the SetWindowPos after that. Finally, calling GetWindowLongPtr in any other event handler, that is, later than WM_CREATE, works fine. Is there something I'm missing in the initialization sequence, or maybe the messages are sent in some not so obvious order?
