  Hi, I'm using Python on Appengine and am looking up the geolocation of an IP address like this: import pygeoip gi = pygeoip.GeoIP('GeoIP.dat') Location = gi.country_code_by_addr(self.request.remote_addr) (pygeoip can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/pygeoip/) I want to geolocate each page of my app for a user so currently I lookup the IP address once then store it in memcache. My question - which is quicker? Looking up the IP address each time from the .dat file or fetching it from memcache? Are there any other pros/cons I need to be aware of? For general queries like this, is there a good guide to teach me how to optimise my code and run speed tests myself? I'm new to python and coding in general so apologies if this is a basic concept. • PHP REMOTE_ADDR and secure sessions

  One of the ways I have used to make securer sessions in the past is to also record the clients IP address and user agent at the handshake. Each time the client moves a page and calls session_start() I also check that the IP address and user agent stored is still the same to prevent hiijacking. But if someone is connecting from say a company network then all the users will probably have the same external static IP address and they could also really easily be using the same user agent. Is there other metrics I can use which are local only to the physical machine? Thanks

I have two different webistes both with their own dedicted ip address. sitea.com = xx.xx.xx.43 siteb.com = xx.xx.xx.44 Im using hmailserver to host our emails and have the smtp bound to the ip address of xx.xx.xx.42 im aware that i can set up a spf record to state that the what servers emails can be sent from v=spf1 mx ip4:xx.xx.xx.43 mx:mail.sitea.com ip4:xx.xx.xx.42 -all Would the fact that email are not sent from the sites ip's be causing them to be flagged as junk. • How to host a naked domain on a CDN?

  If I have a domain that I wish to serve "naked" eg http://examp.le/, and efficiently with a CDN, what are my options? The issue is that the CDNs I looked at all want you to use a CNAME so that they can do geo ip lookup. CNAMES are not meant to be served at the same level as other records, and this apparently breaks some dns resolvers. You at least need SOA and MX records at the same level for a naked domain. The only solutions are: having A records in your own dns, thus skipping the geo ip, or finding a cdn who will allow delegation of the whole domain so they can do geo ip things for the A record directly. I've tried googling and can't find any Cdn who offers this. Any ideas? I looked closely at Amazon cloudfront and rackspace cloudfiles. I couldn't work it out for those.

  What I have is a network topology which looks like this: ------ PC --- IP Camera The PC has two ethernet interfaces, and is hosting a small webserver providing some auxiliary data. The issue is that the server on the PC runs on port 80, and the IP Camera is also running on port 80. Currently, we are bridging them, so that the PC's server is accessible at 192.168.0.2 and the camera at 192.168.0.3. However, what I'm trying to explore is the feasibility of using the PC to expose them both on the PC's IP, ideally both on port 80. Can this be done with regular sockets, or will it be necessary to use raw sockets?

  Hi all, Basically what I'm trying to achieve is a program which allow users to connect to a each other over a network in, essentially, a chat room. What I'm currently struggling with is writing the code so that the users can connect to each other without knowing the IP-address of the computer that the other users are using or knowing the IP-address of a server. Does anyone know of a way in which I could simply have all of the users scan the IP range of my network in order to find any active 'room' and then give the user a chance to connect to it? Also, the hope is that there will be no need for a central server to run this from, rather every user will simply be connected to all other user, essentially being the server and client at the same time.

  I would like to test my web app in other browsers. I have installed Virtual PC to do just that. the ASP.NET development server does not allow remote connections so the virtual pc (another computer on the network) cannot access the website. I found this post that was started but there was no solution. I understand that using localhost will not work. I heard about using the machines ip, but how do I get that correct ip? Look at my lynksys router admin? If I were to get as far as getting my IP, im sure that the asp.net dev server does not allow remote connections. How do I enable it to do so?

• alias not working on sql server 2008 r2

  I have several servers with SQL Server 2008 R2 instances on them, and alias doesn't work on any of them. Clients connect to these servers using TCP/IP without any problem, telnet works on IP/Port I use for my alias, the firewall exceptions are created, basically everything works fine, except when I create an alias, I can not connect through it to my server using either TCP/IP or named pipes (local or one of other servers). I've installed latest cumulative updates, which updates native client too (which I think is the source of problem) and I still have the problem. The stranger part is, if I create an alias on a server with sql server 2005 (native client 9), I can connect to my 2008 r2 instances. Any suggestions?

  This is a followup for this question. When I used the proxy flag, I did not know all of its effects. Now I have two more problems, which need to be fixed! The main problem is with user IP addresses, everyone appears to use the server IP. I can't trust http-x-forwarded-for because it is easy to forge headers, and the REMOTE_ADDR just shows the server IP. I used the P flag because it acted as a mask, but Google loads everything with the actual URL. How can I use this subdomain rewrite without the P flag? It needs to be internal. • Acer aspire 5735z wireless not working after upgrade to 11.10

  I cant get my wifi card to work at all after upgrading to 11.10 Oneiric. I'm not sure where to start to fix this. Ive tried using the additional drivers tool but this shows that no additional drivers are needed. Before my upgrade I had a drivers working for the Rt2860 chipset.   I connect from a OSGi bundle deployed on Apache ServiceMix to a Weblogic Server to call some EJBs. The lookup happens with JNDI. In my unit test everything works fine. But when a deploy the bundle on ServiceMix a CommunicationException exception is raised on JNDI ContextFactory initialisation. • EC2 instance suddenly refusing SSH connections and won't respond to ping

  My instance was running fine and this morning I was able to access a Ruby on Rails app hosted on it. An hour later I suddenly wasn't able to access my site, my SSH connection attempts were refused and the server wasn't even responding to ping. I didn't change anything on my system during that hour and reboots aren't fixing it. I've never had any problems connecting or pinging the system before. Can someone please help? This is on my production system! • Cannot connect to one of my WCF services, not even with telnet

  I have six wcf services that I'm hosting in a windows service. Everything works great on my machine (Windows 7) but when I try it in production (Windows Server 2003) I cannot connect to one of my six services, ReportsService. I figured I must have a typo, but everything looks right. I've even rewritten that section of the config file just to be sure. I've turned on WCF tracing, but it never shows the call to my service; nothing helpful in there. I tried connecting to the port (9005) with telnet, but it failed. I can connect to all other services (ports 9001-4 and 9006) just fine. I thought that maybe there was a problem with port 9005, so I changed it to 9007 and still couldn't connect. I had one of my working services host on 9005 and it actually worked fine. So I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the port or any firewall settings. Whatever port I tell ReportsService to use fails. Now I'm out of ideas. It seems like it's not hosting that one service, but I cannot get any information about why or what's wrong. Any ideas on what I could try to get that information? Or what might be wrong? The unhandled System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException I get when running my client is: Could not connect to net.tcp://localhost:9005/ReportsService. The connection attempt lasted for a time span of 00:00:01.0937430. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 172.0.0.1:9005. . • How should I delete a child object from within a parent's slot? Possibly boost::asio specific.

  I have written a network server class that maintains a std::set of network clients. The network clients emit a signal to the network server on disconnect (via boost::bind). When a network client disconnects, the client instance needs to be removed from the Set and eventually deleted. I would think this is a common pattern, but I am having problems that might, or might not, be specific to ASIO. (Interestingly, it doesn't seem to blow up on me though.) So I've used boost:shared_ptr along with shared_from_this to make sure the client doesn't get deleted until all slots have been signaled. It doesn't seem to really matter though. I believe this question is not specific to ASIO, but the problem manifests in a peculiar way when using ASIO. I have one thread executing io_service.run(). All ASIO read/write operations are performed asynchronously. Everything works fine with multiple clients connecting/disconnecting UNLESS I delete my client object from the Set per the code above. If I delete my client object, the io_service seemingly deadlocks internally and no further asynchronous operations are performed unless I start another thread. I have try/catches around the io_service.run() call and have not been able to detect any errors. Questions: Are there best practices for deleting child objects, that are also signal emitters, from within parent slots? Any ideas as to why the io_service is hanging when I delete my network client object?

• DD-WRT No Internet connection over LAN

  I flashed the DD-WRT firmware on my TP-Link WR1043ND router and although after cloning the PC's MAC-Address it gets the correct IP from my ISP, the internet connection over LAN just won't work. The strange thing is it does work flawlessly over W-LAN, which tells me the problem should lie somehow in the default LAN settings or the PC. Any idea what the problem might be? • Failure retrieving contents of directory

  Currently I have a couple of websites. My problem is that if I login on 1 specific domain with any of my programs (using notepadd++, FileZilla and Netbeans) the program stops at the content listing. I had it correctly running, (I'm working on a project on this domain for more than a year now) and suddenly I broke it somehow. This only happens on 1 specific domain, all other domains (from other hosts) are working. My colleague (next to me with same ip address) is able to login on this domain. Notepadd++ says: Failure retrieving contents of directory Filezilla says: Failed to retrieve directory listing Netbean popups: Upload files on save failed. (Because I have the setting upload on save enabled.) What I tried: First I thought it's my firewall, I disabled firewall but no result. Also notice that all other domain are working. Maby a blacklist with my ip address? No my colleague has the same ip address. Could anyone help me on this?
