In XP, control-click on the "up folder" icon opens the parent folder in a new Window.
After much searching, I find no way to do this in Vista. It's easy to get to the parent folder, but not in a new window.
Hi all,
We're currently trialing Windows 7 to replace XP, one problem I have is that each time a 'user' logs in they're prompted to setup their Outlook 2007 profile.
Has anyone seen this?
Thanks
Steven
Ubuntu 9.1 runs quite slugglish on my old laptop from 2004. Slower than Windows XP that was on there.
It has 512mb RAM and probably 1.2ghz (can't remember) CPU.
I have turned off Visual Effects under Appearance Preferences.
Are there any other tricks to get better performance, or do I just need a better computer to try Ubuntu?
Thanks
Is it possible to use Windows remote desktop connection to connect to a Windows XP machine with a user already logged in and just view that users screen without logging them off?
Every time I want to save some image I paste into the Paint application,
it chooses a BMP/DIB format (which is the worst for saving things from the clipboard).
How can I hack this Windows pbrush application into defaulting to a JPEG format save always?
If it matters I am using Windows XP SP3 and Paint 5.1 at the moment.
But, I thought the hack would be generic, and I'd like to do this across all my Windows machines.
I have windows XP and in any application on my computer i don't see this range, nether in IE nor in Notepad++...
I become crazy...
Thank you very much for ahead.
Hey my goal is to connect a Active Directory (AD) to Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) using Fedora + Dogtag after that using OS´s like Windows XP or 7 and Linuxs like Ubuntu they can access that connections and take part of some functionalities like "Roaming Profiles", "Printers", "Auth" and other stuff.
If anyone can help i appreciate because i am new to this and this very important.

I have Virtual PC 2007 running Windows XP. I can access a website setup on the Virtual machine from a browser in the Virtual machine. How do I setup the virtual machine so I can access the website from a browser on the host machine. The host machine is also running WinXP.
Both host and virtual machine can ping each other via IP and computer name.
TIA

I have always used IPMSG for chatting across the LAN. It has been working well under Windows XP, but after I installed Windows 7 it has stopped working.
When I am connected to the internet I cannot see anyone else on the local network. As soon as I disconnect the internet I can see everyone on the local network perfectly fine.
I am using the latest versino of IPMSG.
Does anyone have any ideas or knowledge of this problem?
Hi All,
I have recently rolled XP service pack 3 out on the estate, and for some reason it is enabling the windows firewall. I have a group policy that disables the windows firewall but SP3 is turning it on.
Is there any way in GPO that I can turn this off, or is there a setting in SP3 that can be done globally.
Cheers
I have a Netbook with Windows XP Home. Processor is an Atom N280 (1.66 GHz) with 2 GB of RAM. I noticed that newer Netbooks come with Windows 7, but as Starter Edition (which kinda sucks).
I wonder if there is a technical reason for using Windows 7 Starter? Or would a better edition (x86) perform equally well? I'm currently considering Home Premium, but BitLocker and Offline Files might have me get Ultimate.
In linux prompt,we can type !mysql and so on to match a history command to save time.
Is there a utility for windows(XP to be exact) that enables this feature?
An excel document with several pivot and lookup tables that previously worked under office xp and 2003 stopped working after an upgrade to office 2007 (linked stuff doesn't update).
I originally assumed there's something disabled in 2007 that I need to turn back on, but after having opened it in excel 2007 it no longer works in previous versions either.
Any idea what I'm missing/what excel 2007 did?
I'd like to watch a video with sound on one computer, share the screen, and have the sound heard by the other computer, not going through the speakers. i.e. it should transmit the video from my screen and the same sound that's going to the speakers, right off the sound card.
It is possible to do on XP, but not on 7.
I have tried to use the stereo mix as the sound source, but it seems that skype blocks that.
I'd like to be able to SSH to my Ubuntu 10.04 office PC from the outside. I am thus thinking to start up an SSH daemon on the PC. What are the security issues, possible glitches, specific configuration settings, etc. I should be aware of?
In case it matters: this is essentially for my own use only, I don't think there will be other people using it; it's an Ubuntu 10.04 PC in a mostly Windows 7/Vista/XP environment.
Is it possible to host a website on the local network with a Windows XP computer as a host?
Also I would like to have the user have to login to access the website (just in case).
Thanks in advance!
I've installed two systems:window xp and ubuntu.
And vmware is installed in windows.
Is it possible to enter ubuntu from vmware, while of course I'm still in windows?
I'm downloading ie8 for windows xp. Would it be safe to just install this ie8 without uninstalling ie6? Does this method will leave nothing about ie6 on my system. And all of its functions will be replaced by ie8?
We would like to prevent USB access to machines (primarily Windows XP, 2003 machines) so that it would not be possible for employees to copy anything from the disk to a pen drive.
