    I have been given access to (parts of) a remote SQL Server 2005 with SQL Server authentication in order to be able to make changes to a database without involving other people who is not working on the project. The database have been created on my local machine. Is there any way to restore the remote database from a backup file on my local computer? I do not currently have access to the filesystem on the remote server.

    I have a script written in Visual Basic that starts a process (given to the script as an argument) on a remote system (again, given as an argument) using WMI. This script works fine when using an Administrator account on the remote system, but when using a non-administrator account, I get the following error: ConnectServer Failed w/ (-2147024891) Access is denied. I'd like to be able to run processes on remote systems as a non-administrator user with this script, and I'm pretty sure the problem is due to security settings on the remote system, but I've not been able to reset the right ones.

    Seems to be a question for a Flash security guru. Suppose we are loading an external SWF movie with MovieClipLoader.loadMovie(url:String) Is it safe to assume that if url starts with "http://", the movie will be loaded in REMOTE sandbox? We need to tell local SWFs from remote ones to close a security hole. If you need the context read on. We have developed a Projector, written in C++ embedding Flash Player ActiveX. Our Flash application runs inside the Projector. Soon we want to give our users a way to create plugins for the application. The plugins are obviously will be SWF movies. The case I'm afraid of is the following. A bad person creates a malicious evil.swf pretending it to be nice plugin for our app. In case evil.swf is loaded from the local file system it is granted an access to the whole MovieClip tree and Projector API, opening C++ file access operations. On the other hand if evil.swf is loaded from the internet, remotely, it will be locked in REMOTE sandbox by Flash security model. Because of this, we need a reliable way to tell local SWF from remote one before loading it. And we must not make a mistake. So again, is it safe to assume that if url begins with "http://", the clip will be loaded inside REMOTE sandbox?

    Hi there: I am developing an application (Delphi 7, windows XP) that uses a connection to a remote SQL Server. Sometimes, that server is down, and I want to do something to start it. I was trying to start SQL Server in a local context, and it was fine, it worked... But the point is that I have to start it up from a remote machine. I can see SQL Server status from a remote server, but I can't start it up... Maybe it gets problems because of user and password, but where to specify the login to the remote machine? Do you have any idea to do this??? I am sorry about my English. Thanks.

    I have SOCKS5 proxy configured and want to work with the git repository, originally cloned from ssh:... So when it tries to connect the error "Network is unreachable" appears. There are a few possible solutions: Use GIT URL rewriting and use https:// with proxy option. Probably should work well for github repositories. Use port forwarding and something like iptables/ipfw to rewrite address xx.xx.xx.xx:22 to 127.0.0.1:10yyy I'm trying to do #2. I have limited knowledge in this area, but know that I should use something like iptables. But then I discovered that on a Mac I should use ipfw. And then in the ipfw man page it told me "This utility is DEPRECATED. Please use pfctl(8) instead". So what I want to do is to rewrite xx.xx.xx.xx:22 to 127.0.0.1:10yyy and remove this rewriting. As I read, the pf.conf line should be rdr proto tcp from 127.0.0.1 to xx.xx.xx.xx port 22 -> 127.0.0.1 port 10yyy But how to add (and remove) this rule from command line?

    I have a service endpoint initialized using DI. It is of the following style. This end point is used across the app. public class CustomerService : ICustomerService { private IValidationService ValidationService { get; set; } private ICustomerRepository Repository { get; set; } public CustomerService(IValidationService validationService,ICustomerRepository repository) { ValidationService = validationService; Repository = repository; } public void Save(CustomerDTO customer) { if (ValidationService.Valid(customer)) Repository.Save(customer); } Now, With the changing requirements, there are going to be different types of customers (Legacy/Regular). The requirement is based on the type of the customer I have to validate and persist the customer in a different way (e.g. if Legacy customer persist to LegacyRepository). The wrong way to do this will be to break DI and do somthing like public void Save(CustomerDTO customer) { if(customer.Type == CustomerTypes.Legacy) { if (LegacyValidationService.Valid(customer)) LegacyRepository.Save(customer); } else { if (ValidationService.Valid(customer)) Repository.Save(customer); } } My options to me seems like DI all possible IValidationService and ICustomerRepository and switch based on type, which seems wrong. The other is to change the service signature to Save(IValidationService validation, ICustomerRepository repository, CustomerDTO customer) which is an invasive change. Break DI. Use the Strategy pattern approach for each type and do something like: validation= CustomerValidationServiceFactory.GetStratedgy(customer.Type); validation.Valid(customer) but now I have a static method which needs to know how to initialize different services. I am sure this is a very common problem, What is the right way to solve this without changing service signatures or breaking DI?

  • Snow Leopard doesn't repair permissions, despite showing / saying its fixed them?

    Sometime ago, I used carbon copy as I was replacing my hard drive in my Mac Mini running Snow Leopard. Afterwards, on my new drive I had some permission problems. The way I usually do this is cat filename and then select/copy the ssh output. That takes a lot of time.     There seems to be an endless supply of messages in the Qmail maillog for a single address. Can anyone shed some light on why this might be and whether it is a problem? To me it looks like either spam or some sort of unhandled problem. It strikes me as unusual that the 'from=' field is blank. This is on a VPS using Plesk in case that's important.   • Can Subgroups be created in Gitlab?

    We are working on migrating from gitolite to gitlab , But have encountered a problem with subgroups which are created on git. It looks like there is no feature in gitlab to create a subgroup eg: in Git group1/group2/project1.git group1/project2.git group1/group2/project3.git group1/group3/project4.git It looks like when i import the repo's using bundle it is not able to identify the sub groups. Also there is no option to create a sub group on the gitlab UI.     I have an application on an AIX server (v5.3) that needs to print via a Windows Print Server over the LAN. The simplest way to do this is to use SMIT to setup a remote print queue - which I've done on the test environment - but the IT department have refused to set up a remote print queue on the Production server. I don't have root access to the Production server. Is there any other method for connecting the app to the print server that doesn't involve print queues on the AIX box?

  • Adding a trigger command to autocomplete function in zsh

    When you define an alias like alias g=git, the shell will pick it up and run the corresponding autocomplete function. Now, there's a program out there called hub, which is basically a supserset of git, with some added, github-specific functionality. The recommended way to use hub is to alias git=hub. Of course, this won't trigger the autocomplete function for git, which makes sense. Now, if I wanted to have git's autocomplete trigger for hub, the only way I know of is editing /usr/share/zsh/functions/Completion/Unix/_git and adding hub in the first line as trigger. While this works, it isn't practical, since this file will get overwritten with the next zsh release. Assuming hub won't provide a zsh completion function any time soon, is there another way of adding hub to the trigger commands for git's autocomplete function?

My local machine is behind a firewall, so I can't do "scp file_on_remote user@localmachine". I know I can do "scp user@remotemachine:/directory/file ./", but I need to wander around on the remote server to pick some files to download to local machine, so this way doesn't seem too appealing to me.

When i connecting to the server from home in Remote Desktop Session Manager i see in client status dialog a local ip address of client behind the nat box not WAN ip address of nat box. I suppose i must see the WAN ip address of the nat box in Remote Desktop Session Manager, isnt it?

    I run a script tailing a log in a remote server, like so: ssh userx@someip tail -f /data/current.log|python2.7 monitorlog.py There are dependencies and service requirements that disallows me to run the script off the remote server. (DB, ACLs, and path to another service is uses) Is there a way I can tail and monitor a log without using the ssh userx@someip? I thought about generating RSA keys but I think you still need a user to ssh.

    I've developed code locally and taken a fairly regular snapshot whenever I reach a significant point in development, e.g. a working build. So I have a long-ish list of about 40 folders, each folder being a snapshot e.g. in ascending date YYYYMMDD order, e.g.:- 20100523 20100614 20100721 20100722 20100809 20100901 20101001 20101003 20101104 20101119 20101203 20101218 20110102 I'm looking for a script to import each of these snapshots as a new subversion revision to the source tree. The end result being that the HEAD revision is the same as the last snapshot, and other revisions are as numbered. Some other requirements: that the HEAD revision is not cumulative of the previous snapshots, i.e., files that appeared in older snapshots but which don't appear in later ones (e.g. due to refactoring etc.) should not appear in the HEAD revision. meanwhile, there should be continuity between files that do persist between snapshots. Subversion should know that there are previous versions of these files and not treat them as brand new files within each revision. Some background about my aim: I need to formally revision control this work rather than keep local private snapshot copies. I plan to release this work as open source, so version controlling would be highly recommended I am evaluating some of the current popular version control systems (Subversion and GIT) BUT I definitely need a working solution in Subversion. I'm not looking to be persuaded to use one particular tool, I need a solution for each tool I am considering as I would also like a solution in GIT (I will post an answer separately for GIT so separate camps of folks who have expertise in GIT and Subversion will be able to give focused answers on one or the other).     I am creating a multi user android application and it is connected to a php web service in a remote server and to a remote database via that web service. I want to keep a track of all the important activities done by the users. For an example if a user logged in to the app and changed his profile details and then logged out, a brief description of what he has done should be recorded(with time) somewhere. So then the admin of the system can see what the users are doing. So I think it is better to use log cat files and then flush all those data to a unique file in the server or a table in the database, when the user logs out or exists from his account. If it is appropriate How to do it?
