  • Are Multi-column Primary Keys in MySQL a optimisation problem?

    - by David
Been looking into using multi-column primary keys and as performance is extremely important with the size of traffic and database I need to know if there is anything to consider before I start throwing out the unique ID method on many of my tables and start using mulit column primary keys. So, what are the performance/optimisation pros/cons to using multi column primary keys versus a basic single column, auto-inc primary key?

  • python conditional list creation from 2D lists

    - by dls
Say I've got a list of lists. Say the inner list of three elements in size and looks like this: ['apple', 'fruit', 1.23] The outer list looks like this data = [['apple', 'fruit', 1.23], ['pear', 'fruit', 2.34], ['lettuce', 'vegetable', 3.45]] I want to iterate through the outer list and cull data for a temporary list only in the case that element 1 matches some keyword (aka: 'fruit'). So, if I'm matching fruit, I would end up with this: tempList = [('apple', 1.23), ('pear', 2.34)] This is one way to accomplish this: tempList = [] for i in data: if i[1] == 'fruit': tempList.append(i[0], i[2]) is there some 'Pythonic' way to do this in fewer lines?

    - by Konstantin
Hello! I have a local phpMyAdmin (installed via apt-get) adn I'm tired of entering login and password every time I try to open it. Database contains no sensitive info, just test tables, and is visible only from 127.0.0.1 I want phpMyAdmin already be logged in as root user with password 1234 (for example) when I open it. How do I do that? P.S. Saving password in a browser is not what I want.

  • Best Work Queue service for distributed clusters

    - by onewheelgood
Hi there. I require a simple work queue type system for asynchronous task management. I have looked at both beanstalkd and gearman. However, both these seem to assume that the client and the queue server are on the same network, and therefore that there will always be a reliable network between them. I need one that can support the client and server being in different places in the world, and be able to manage temporary loss of network connection between clusters. Ideally, this would work in such a way where I post a job to a local proxy that attempts to send it to the main queue server. If there is no network connection, it would try again later, however it would not lose the job or delay the client. Any recommendations?

  • XNA .FBX Vertex Color Missing

    - by Alex
When I vertex paint and export my models from Blender (or Maya) for use in my XNA 4.0 project, I somehow lose the vertex color channel for the model. I use no custom model object or content pipelines and my own shader throws me the error: The current vertex declaration does not include all the elements required by the current vertex shader. Color0 is missing. I tryed to reopen the model in other modeling tools and the vertex colors are there. What could cause the vertex color channel to not get loaded in XNA 4.0? Here's a temporary link to the FBX file(server refuses to send a fbx, so rename the .jpg file to .fbx after downloading) http://resources.gamestack.org/BananaBush.jpg

  • What's wrong with this SQL query?

    - by ThinkingInBits
I have two tables: photographs, and photograph_tags. Photograph_tags contains a column called photograph_id (id in photographs). You can have many tags for one photograph. I have a photograph row related to three tags: boy, stream, and water. However, running the following query returns 0 rows SELECT p.* FROM photographs p, photograph_tags c WHERE c.photograph_id = p.id AND (c.value IN ('dog', 'water', 'stream')) GROUP BY p.id HAVING COUNT( p.id )=3 Is something wrong with this query?

  • How to fine tune FluentNHibernate's auto mapper?

    - by Venemo
Okay, so yesterday I managed to get the latest trunk builds of NHibernate and FluentNHibernate to work with my latest little project. (I'm working on a bug tracking application.) I created a nice data access layer using the Repository pattern. I decided that my entities are nothing special, and also that with the current maturity of ORMs, I don't want to hand-craft the database. So, I chose to use FluentNHibernate's auto mapping feature with NHibernate's "hbm2ddl.auto" property set to "create". It really works like a charm. I put the NHibernate configuration in my app domain's config file, set it up, and started playing with it. (For the time being, I created some unit tests only.) It created all tables in the database, and everything I need for it. It even mapped my many-to-many relationships correctly. However, there are a few small glitches: All of the columns created in the DB allow null. I understand that it can't predict which properties should allow null and which shouldn't, but at least I'd like to tell it that it should allow null only for those types for which null makes sense in .NET (eg. non-nullable value types shouldn't allow null). All of the nvarchar and varbinary columns it created, have a default length of 255. I would prefer to have them on max instead of that. Is there a way to tell the auto mapper about the two simple rules above? If the answer is no, will it work correctly if I modify the tables it created? (So, if I set some columns not to allow null, and change the allowed length for some other, will it correctly work with them?) EDIT: I managed to achieve the above by using Fluent NHibernate's convention API. Thanks to everyone who helped! However, there is one more thing: after checking out the convention API, I really would like my IDs to be calld "ID", not "Id", but it seems to me that the PrimaryKey.Name.Is(x => "ID") is not working at all. If I add it to the conventions collection and rewrite my entities' properties to "ID" instead of "Id", it throws an exception that there is no primary key mapped. Any thoughts on this?

  • Auto generate varchar Ticket number via DB...

    - by Rusty
Hello, I'm looking for suggestion on how to get the DB to auto generate Ticket numbers (preferably via the SQL DB) for a varchar column. I have the following tables in the DB: Activities & Cases and would prefer the format to be "Act000001" or "Cse000001". This would be something similar to the identity column property. Any suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thanks. Rusty

  • How to analyse contents of binary serialization stream?

    - by Tao
I'm using binary serialization (BinaryFormatter) as a temporary mechanism to store state information in a file for a relatively complex (game) object structure; the files are coming out much larger than I expect, and my data structure includes recursive references - so I'm wondering whether the BinaryFormatter is actually storing multiple copies of the same objects, or whether my basic "number of objects and values I should have" arithmentic is way off-base, or where else the excessive size is coming from. Searching on stack overflow I was able to find the specification for Microsoft's binary remoting format: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc236844(PROT.10).aspx What I can't find is any existing viewer that enables you to "peek" into the contents of a binaryformatter output file - get object counts and total bytes for different object types in the file, etc; I feel like this must be my "google-fu" failing me (what little I have) - can anyone help? This must have been done before, right??

  • Querying with foreign key

    - by theactiveactor
Say I have 2 tables whose structures are as follows: tableA id | A1 | A2 tableB id | tableA_id (foreign key) | B1 Entries in A have a one-to-many relationship with entries in B. What kind of query operation would I need to achieve "something like this: select all objects from table B where A1="foo""? Basically, apply a query on tableA and from those result, find corresponding dependent objects in tableB

  • Paypal development. encrypt transactions. php p12

    - by ninchen
    when i take a look at the paypal documentation, they say "Note that the PayPal SDK for PHP does not require SSL encryption". https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/api/apiCredentials/#encrypting-your-certificate Is the statement of this phrase, that i don't have to create a p12 certificate when working with php, but use the public_key.pem and paypal_public_key.pem? If yes: Is it secure enough to create the encrypted form input elements without p12 certificate? If no: What do they mean? :-) Before this question came up, i've tested this little programm. http://www.softarea51.com/blog/how-to-integrate-your-custom-shopping-cart-with-paypal-website-payments-standard-using-php/ There is a config file paypal-wps-config.inc.php where i can define the paths to my certificates. // tryed to use // 'paypal_cert.p12 '; $config['private_key_path'] = '/home/folder/.cert/pp/prvkey.pem'; // must match the one you set when you created the private key $config['private_key_password'] = ''; //'my_password'; When i try to use the p12 certificate, openssl_error_string() returns "Could not sign data: error:0906D06C:PEM routines:PEM_read_bio:no start line openssl_pkcs7_sign When i instead use the prvkey.pem without password all works fine. Here is the function, which signs and encrypt the data. function signAndEncrypt($dataStr_, $ewpCertPath_, $ewpPrivateKeyPath_, $ewpPrivateKeyPwd_, $paypalCertPath_) { $dataStrFile = realpath(tempnam('/tmp', 'pp_')); $fd = fopen($dataStrFile, 'w'); if(!$fd) { $error = "Could not open temporary file $dataStrFile."; return array("status" => false, "error_msg" => $error, "error_no" => 0); } fwrite($fd, $dataStr_); fclose($fd); $signedDataFile = realpath(tempnam('/tmp', 'pp_')); **// here the error came from** if(!@openssl_pkcs7_sign( $dataStrFile, $signedDataFile, "file://$ewpCertPath_", array("file://$ewpPrivateKeyPath_", $ewpPrivateKeyPwd_), array(), PKCS7_BINARY)) { unlink($dataStrFile); unlink($signedDataFile); $error = "Could not sign data: ".openssl_error_string(); return array("status" => false, "error_msg" => $error, "error_no" => 0); } unlink($dataStrFile); $signedData = file_get_contents($signedDataFile); $signedDataArray = explode("\n\n", $signedData); $signedData = $signedDataArray[1]; $signedData = base64_decode($signedData); unlink($signedDataFile); $decodedSignedDataFile = realpath(tempnam('/tmp', 'pp_')); $fd = fopen($decodedSignedDataFile, 'w'); if(!$fd) { $error = "Could not open temporary file $decodedSignedDataFile."; return array("status" => false, "error_msg" => $error, "error_no" => 0); } fwrite($fd, $signedData); fclose($fd); $encryptedDataFile = realpath(tempnam('/tmp', 'pp_')); if(!@openssl_pkcs7_encrypt( $decodedSignedDataFile, $encryptedDataFile, file_get_contents($paypalCertPath_), array(), PKCS7_BINARY)) { unlink($decodedSignedDataFile); unlink($encryptedDataFile); $error = "Could not encrypt data: ".openssl_error_string(); return array("status" => false, "error_msg" => $error, "error_no" => 0); } unlink($decodedSignedDataFile); $encryptedData = file_get_contents($encryptedDataFile); if(!$encryptedData) { $error = "Encryption and signature of data failed."; return array("status" => false, "error_msg" => $error, "error_no" => 0); } unlink($encryptedDataFile); $encryptedDataArray = explode("\n\n", $encryptedData); $encryptedData = trim(str_replace("\n", '', $encryptedDataArray[1])); return array("status" => true, "encryptedData" => $encryptedData); } // signAndEncrypt } // PPCrypto The main questions: 1. Is it possible to use p12 cert with php, or is it secure enough to work without it? 2. Why i become an error when using openssl_pkcs7_sign Please help. Greetings ninchen

  • Why does Perl's shift complain 'Type of arg 1 to shift must be array (not grep iterator).'?

    - by wes
I've got a data structure that is a hash that contains an array of hashes. I'd like to reach in there and pull out the first hash that matches a value I'm looking for. I tried this: my $result = shift grep {$_->{name} eq 'foo'} @{$hash_ref->{list}}; But that gives me this error: Type of arg 1 to shift must be array (not grep iterator). I've re-read the perldoc for grep and I think what I'm doing makes sense. grep returns a list, right? Is it in the wrong context? I'll use a temporary variable for now, but I'd like to figure out why this doesn't work.

  • MySQL ALTER TABLE on very large table - is it safe to run it?

    - by Timothy Mifsud
I have a MySQL database with one particular MyISAM table of above 4 million rows. I update this table about once a week with about 2000 new rows. After updating, I then perform the following statement: ALTER TABLE x ORDER BY PK DESC i.e. I order the table in question by the primary key field in descending order. This has not given me any problems on my development machine (Windows with 3GB memory), but, even though 3 times I have tried it successfully on the production Linux server (with 512MB RAM - and achieving the resulted sorted table in about 6 minutes each time), the last time I tried it I had to stop the query after about 30 minutes and rebuild the database from a backup. I have started to wonder whether a 512MB server can cope with that statement (on such a large table) as I have read that a temporary table is created to perform the ALTER TABLE command?! And, if it can be safely run, what should be the expected time for the alteration of the table? Thanks in advance, Tim

  • Is SELECT INTO able to affect data from its original table during UPDATE

    - by driveby
Whilst asking this question asp.net scheduling timed events user murph posted some insightful information: Point about this is that its very, very simple - you have an process for exchange that is performing a clearly defined task and you have a high frequency task that is not doing anything particularly complex, its a straightforward query (select from table where sent = false and send at < value) - probably into temporary table so that you can run a single query update after you've done the sends - that you can optimise the index for. You're not trying to queue up a huge pile of event triggers, just one that fires once a minute and processes things that are due. Is it possible to SELECT data from table X INTO table Y and have the UPDATES that are performed on table Y pushed into table X? I guess the alternative would be that the data gets updated in table Y then an update command can be run on table X based on the data in table Y. What would be the advantage of selecting into another table? Thank you,

  • *Right* outer join in LINQ

    - by Rap
Is it safe to say that there is no such thing as a right outer join in LINQ? I know to effectively create one, you'd just swap the tables in a left outer join. But can you apply the DefaultIfEmpty() method to the table on the left side of the equijoin to make it a right outer join?

  • What is a good Very-High level UI framework for JavaScript?

    - by Robert Gould
I need to write a temporary Web-based graphical front-end for a custom server system. In this case performance and scalability aren't issues, since at most 10 people may check the system simultaneously. Also it should be PHP or Python (server) & JavaScript (client) (can't use Flex or Silverlight for very specific non-programming related issues). So I know I could use YUI or jQuery, but was wondering if there is something even more high-level that would say allow me to write such a little project within a few hours of work, and get done with it. Basically I want to be as lazy as possible (this is throw-away code anyways) and get the job done in as little time as possible. Any suggestions?
